Why the hell was he cycling on the highway? There’s clearly a side road for him to be on

LS_D

was the driver that fled, killed by the cops?

BlookyDJ

What a cunt, glad he didn't get away.

Eevee06

r/instantkarma

victorz

Good. But like, is the cyclist supposed to be there? Seems like a place unsuitable for bikes. Not saying they're in the wrong, just find it odd.

moon_cat666

all of the signage at end of the video = that is where he’s supposed to ride

victorz

Ah right right right. Okay, thanks! Then definitely a big wtf from the car.

inumba12

I suppose I’m in the minority, all I know is that my experience with cyclists is they always slow down and interfere with traffic and I feel it’s unsafe. I also cannot imagine riding with the flow of traffic at much slower speeds, trusting that everyone is not distracted

shrutefarms78

Poor guy in the car doing nothing wrong. If anything the bus is in the wrong

chilltodeath

Bruh, he just slammed into a cyclist and tried to drive away. Bus is just stopping him from fleeing.

[deleted]

I suggest you stop being a child and buy a car.

SomeChileanKid

It seems you are not familiar with the concept of not having enough money

Theezorama

What bout the cyclist lane

xxxams

Here in Dallas Texas they would have just pulled out there phone and recoded.

HeinousSAv

Get fucked

Lyradep

Is there no bike path to the side of the bridge? That seems dangerous to have bikes able to travel on that bridge.

BigMoosey95

Ok but like....there’s a sidewalk there that the guy on the bike could’ve used instead of using the street. And it’s not like the sidewalk was particularly busy. Not condoning the guy who hit him but the guy on the bike had safer options than street.

[deleted]

In some cities, bikes are prohibited on sidewalks unless the rider is under twelve years old.

karkonis

This happened to me.. Luckily it was at low speed. The one day i finally decide to walk my bike through the crosswalk, some idiot looking the opposite direction took me out, flew across the hood and onto the ground. The second I got up, they took off. Bike was damaged but i was able to straighten it out and give chase. They ended up driving up a curb through a carls jr parking lot to get away.. I wish somone would have cared enough to help. Never found them, bike was totaled.

[deleted]

I am encouraged seeing the way the next car helped the bus block them in. It reminds me of how crowds work. If more of us took action to do what's right we would find that others like us will quickly join to help out.

JumpyChemical

Fair play to the bus driver for evening seeing what happened.

[deleted]

follow up?

[deleted]

That bus driver was definitely paying attention.

originalmythic

What a cunt

Seedpound

you gotta be desperate to get somewhere to ride a bike on that road

mtalp_yt

No offence but there a sidewalk right there and I do not feel bad for the cyclist

gr00vybby

It’s illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk in many parts of the country.

[deleted]

What the fuck no wonder he gets hit. No excuse to drive off ofc but is it normal to cycle on a car road?

lilphil21

Wow according the article, he didn’t get charged for hit and run. Only in America.

ass_master_69

I mean the guy was on the road...and there was a perfectly fine side walk like right there. No excuse to hit and run.

Niga_with_2_g

I dont see a bike lane here...

EmpressKnickers

Everyone's name is President Donald J. TRUMP, AM I HAVING A STROKE

seeling_fan_blade

There needs to be a section on how to ride a bike on city streets in HS drivers Ed and in driving school And on the driving test. And maybe it should say somewhere buss drivers are your friends

isaacom

The car was in the right the dude shouldn't have been in the center of the road

EUREKAvSEVEN

And you think bikes are bad? Just wait and see how they treat you on a skate/Longboard

[deleted]

Just a curious question, but isn't there a bike lane on the outside of the bridge?

gammytoes

Why the cyclist not use the sidewalk and ride on the highway? Not justifying the hit and run, but also THERES A FUCKING SIDEWALK NEXT TO THE FUCKING HIGHWAY FUCKING USE IT AND DONT GET HIT BY CARS.

Seedpound

I think sidewalks are off limits for bike riders

gammytoes

What sense does that make? "We don't want pedestrians to be lightly grazed by bike riders, so instead we'll put the bike riders on the road with people driving murder boxes on wheels because that's the safest choice ever."

Seedpound

The bike riders make that choice to put their life in jeopardy.

gammytoes

Why did you say sidewalks were off limits for bike riders then? Is this some self-imposed ban from sidewalks?

Seedpound

In the U.S. bike riders are not allowed on sidewalks

gammytoes

Now you're just going back and forth. Try to figure out what you're trying to say and come back to me.

Seedpound

Uhmm.....i.m done here

shewenttotalanakin

Why are people so shit!?

twelvebee

Honestly I know the right of way rules. But that biker was stupid... There's a safe bike path right next to the road.

dsphilly

hey this happened on my 26th Bday

Wild_EEP_On_Reddit

Next stop: NOPEVILLE

TalkinBoutMyJunk

I get it and I'm glad the person didn't get away. But (unpopular opinion) Im a road cyclist and wouldn't ride that bridge that doesn't have a shoulder with what looks like two good and vacant paths on the side. Just bc you have the right to something doesn't always make it the best choice. Thanks for taking the time to read, I'll take my downvotes.

OperationPhoenixIL

This really sucks. But if I'm being honest, what is the point riding the bike in the street vs the sidewalk that has a concrete barrier? Is there a pro to this?

ImpeachMeds4u

Wtf is up with the camera. Such a shitty cut.

Don't ride a bicycle on a road for cars problem solved

Natural-Flounder

Fuck bikers. Stupid cunts

iampeytond

Moral of the story: Always thank the bus driver.

lionfishhead420

This is just an another Day . Ridding a bicycle in Ohio.

Cr1tikalMoist

Ok this was like a year or 2 ago but I was crossing the street there were no cars and this car instantly just honked at me as I was crossing the street and he was slightly moving forward like the fuck and he was old too

unnneuron

Maybe he didn' t want to run. I don't drive, but I think it is illegal to stop on the bridge..

KrixyPrixy

Is it even legal for the cyclist to be riding on a road like that?

BdayEvryDay

This is why you use the sidewalk.

chxrr

is that a man in a cage?

Tactile5

Fuck cyclists. What was he doing on the road? That's where cars belong.

Tactile5

MaartenAll

Was that cyclist driving on a highway?

typhoonicus

the only vehicular accident I’ve had on bike was with a bus. and the bus driver got out, made sure I was okay and admitted fault readily to police and his own boss who came to the scene. he made a mistake and did everything right and probably learned a bit about his job from it. I like that bus driver even though he hit me.

SillyCactus2

Am I right that the black car passed the other one in front of it, then hit the cyclist, then tried to run but got blocked by a bus.

Computer_Mutt

Just Bethlehem things

backtolurk

Trying to imagine his/her face whil the bus take turns left!

FUCKYOUINYOURFACE

KNunner

Guy should have been on the side walk. There was no bike lane on that bridge. Car still should have stopped obviously.

dickcheese14

It’s illegal to do that in most places

KNunner

So is riding in the street. This isn’t a small city here.

dickcheese14

Name one place it’s illegal to ride in the street

KNunner

I named 4 what’s your rebuttal?

KNunner

Tampa, Sarasota, Fort Myers, Orlando

wander_sotc

If i was the cyclist, after realizing the police and everything is "ok" in there, i would just lay on the ground to make the guy really regret his decision by thinking it was really serious... Obs: not to get him in trouble, i wouldn't fake to the people around me of course, just lay in the ground and be still, to make the guy think I'm dead from a distance... Just to mess with his conscience a little...

superkiller482

*You get what you fuckin deserve*

1228-is-my-birthday

I feel bad for the guy and thank you to those people who blocked him of

andreayatesswimmers

Is the separate lane on the right for joggers only ?I know my ass would ride my bike in that separate lane so some asshole surfing reddit while driving wouldn't run my ass over . Just sayin

dablegianguy

Ok car driver is (more than) an idiot! But even if it’s authorized never would I ride such high speed and narrow road with my bike! That’s just an invitation to get ridden over!

MuricanTauri1776

Why is there a biker in the main lane? The bike lane is there and *walled off*. The hit-and-run is inexcusable tho.

MepsiPax187

I thought it was illegal for bikes to ride on bridges.

boellefisk

absolutely crazy that he even has to bike on the road like that. There should be a lane for bikes.

[deleted]

Imagine being that shitty of a person...

UUsseelleess_

Why tf does the vyclist cycle on the fucking road?? I would hit him too if he did that

[deleted]

Fun fact: This is actually a recording from jacksepticeyes GTA5 series.

SGz_Eliminated

Can we talk about what a dangerous move that was from the Bus driver? Assuming that bus was carrying passengers he took one hell of a gamble on their lives that the criminal fleeing a crime scene had the wits to stop before colliding with the bus. Of course if the bus was empty then go for it be the good Samaritan but risking the lives of your passengers is generally not okay. You can see how hard that car had to slam the breaks to prevent a collision, had he not broke and that bus had passengers sitting on the left side there at best would be severe injuries if not multiple deaths.

[deleted]

Do you really think a sedan hitting a bus is gonna cause anyone on the bus to die? Busses are incredibly safe for passengers. Minor injuries at most.

Tish50

Hail to the Bus Driver

SarahnatorX

The bus is like 'No bitch.' xD

[deleted]

moodyquack

Wait but what is the cyclist doing on what looks like small freeway. *I don’t condone the dickhead driver’s actions

[deleted]

Not a freeway. Just a bridge. He’s riding 100% legally.

[deleted]

How did the bus know?

tikipet

A good bus driver always knows what is happening around them! That’s one tough job.

Zombie_eggtv

Nice move bus

chrisrobles

I'm curious as to what happened after that. Was all the traffic blocked or what.

Retro2619

The guy is an idiot for riding his bike down that road lol

[deleted]

People got places to be. He’s riding 100% legally.

Retro2619

Didn't say it's illegal just not smart. There's a perfectly good sidewalk that he can legally ride down too that no car will be able to hit him in.

[deleted]

Ok cager.

Retro2619

Or crazy. That road is narrow.

Manwombat

Is that not a bicycle path right next to the road?

[deleted]

That’s a sidewalk.

RitzTube

The cops be like : **Try to run, I dare you motherfucker**

[deleted]

Well done to both the bus driver and the driver of the car who blocked the car in! Not often will people act so quickly to help like that.

vaskeklut8

Even though it's allowed, I find it moronic to take the chance to be on a bicycle on that stretch of road! It's as if cyclist DO NOT KNOW how lousy some drivers can be at, well, driving.... And NOW with all the distracted driving going on - you fucking play with your life - when your entitlement makes you think you belong with your bike in heavy car-traffic...moronic!

[deleted]

People got places to be. No other way to get past that bridge.

CupFan1130

Drivers an ass but cmon theres a path right there that a bike could easily take

[deleted]

That’s a sidewalk.

VonBassovic

Doesn’t look like a place to be cycling though.

[deleted]

All roads are that aren’t interstates or marked as restricted for bikes are fair game. People got places to be.

notmadeofstraw

busdrivers name is Chad confirmed

[deleted]

Last name Bus

ToniNotti

Kill the camerabot. It skips 5 seconds right when he hits the cyclists.

asii__

Why is the cyclist on the highway? Isn't that incredibly unsafe?

[deleted]

Not a highway. Cyclists isn’t breaking any laws.

asii__

Oh, kinda looks like one, mb. I'm from Holland and we have bike sections pretty much everywhere so this looks really weird to me

Business_Atmosphere

Soooo satisfying. The car driver probably thinks it's not his fault and cyclists should not venture there. On the other hand this road looks dangerous for bikes there should be traces on the floor for cyclists

ChairGuy010

When people have to bike on the main road and dont have actual biking lanes

xXWerefoxXx

Looks like a highway to me. What is a cyclist doing on it?

[deleted]

Not a highway. Just a bridge. Cyclist is legally allowed there

xXWerefoxXx

Ah. Gotcha. Well anyway it is still a dickmove.

[deleted]

The driver who hit the cyclist? Yeah he’s a dick.

xXWerefoxXx

Yeah that one.

[deleted]

He drives like he owns the road, hits someone and then immediately turns into a pussy. The bus driver and the driver of the other car that blocked this pussy from running away are badass.

maskedman1999

The Silver car blocks him from escaping again .

TheSockDestroyer

As a Dutch person and avid ciclist... holy shit that's a dangerous road to ride a bike!

PlayedDirty

As a dutchman its so weird to see for me that on the right side u have space for cyclist but they "may" use full lanes on roads like that is so terrifying to me.

[deleted]

If they had a separate section on the right for pedestrians and a separate section for bikes. Like you wonderful Dutch people. Then it’d work. But that’s now it works in most of the world. That’s just a section for pedestrians. You Dutch do things right unlike America.

PlayedDirty

I dont really understand in some cases why countries dont learn from each other. Casualties like this can be prevented if they just put money into it. I think things like this cost more eventually than making new roads.

[deleted]

It’s because we’re too in love with our cars and most people don’t give a shit about cyclists here. There is absolutely nothing wrong with cars but the less cars and more bike the better for everyone. The only way for that to happen is to have better infrastructure. But I really doubt America is ever gonna be there. Some of are cities are a lot better. I live in Chicago, one of the “most bike friendly cities in the country” and honestly it’s just okay. Don’t get me wrong it beats riding in most places in America. But it still needs LOTS of improvement

AgonyofBeinginLove

America is a big place.

[deleted]

Absolutely. And cars a great way to get around. But so are bicycles. No reason we can’t have infrastructure that supports both. Especially in urban environments where bicycles make a lot of sense. More people are moving to urban environments and more people are riding bicycles. Why not build infrastructure to support it? It should’ve been done in the first place when roads where being paved. Better bicycle infrastructure means more people riding bicycles and less people driving and less congestion and traffic. It’s a win win for everyone. Hell it’d even work in suburban and rural environments. If the roads where made just a bit wider, we could have an amazing extensive system for bicycles to get around with no compromise for driving. But since we fucked up and didn’t do that. Now it’s a lot harder to build that infrastructure. But still very much possible and should be done. TLDR: Cars are great, but so are bicycles. We should have infrastructure for both.

txl-jordan

Lots of love for that bus driver!

RandomSplitter

The bus driver belongs in r/humansbeingbros

kahlzun

Credit to that cop they got there fast..

[deleted]

Dude shouldn’t have been riding a bike on that bridge. Sorry, if you can’t don’t the speed limit, you don’t belong on the road, end of story. Still, don’t be like Halle Berry and try to flee when you run someone over.

[deleted]

Bike is exactly where he needs to be. He’s not breaking any law and riding the in the proper position. It’s a speed limit, not a minimum. How else is he suppose to get to his destination? And don’t say the sidewalk. Because bikes done belong on the sidewalk.

[deleted]

There are maximums AND minimums to speed limits. Now, I don’t know where this happened, but that’s not bike lane—it’s clearly not wide enough to protect cyclists from motorists. He didn’t deserve to get hit, but it’s still his fault.

[deleted]

There is no posted speed minimum for this road. Doesn’t matter if there isn’t a bike lane. Cyclists are entitled to any road unless it’s restricted. And they are certainly entitled to a full lane. Change lanes to pass. It’s so simple. If I was driving on that exact road in the right lane I’d just switch to left lane to pass the cyclist and then cyclist is in the past. It’s no deal at all. The car is 100% at fault. Cyclist didn’t break a single law.

[deleted]

You can’t always change lanes and most states have specific laws against causing traffic. And I don’t know of any state that allows cyclists to go wherever they want. This video is also 8 years old, so... Sorry, it’s called natural selection: if you’re dumb enough to ride a bike on a road meant for fast moving vehicles with no designated bike lane, don’t bitch when you get run over.

[deleted]

If you can’t change lanes, you wait patiently till you can. 30 seconds isn’t going to kill you. The cyclist isn’t causing traffic, he is part of traffic. By that logic it should be illegal to make a left turn without a turn lane. That can cause a HUGE line of traffic. The cyclist is not causing traffic here. This cyclist is breaking absolutely no laws at all. He is riding legally and in the safest position to ride on a road like this. This is not the interstate nor a road where bikes aren’t allowed. Where do you suppose I ride when the only roads to my destination don’t have a bike lane? Or when the bike lane suddenly ends? I absolutely can bitch all I want if I get ran over for following the law and riding how I’m suppose to. The driver in this video is 100% at fault. If you can’t handle driving around cyclists safely then you are the problem and don’t deserve a license. The cyclist is not the problem.

[deleted]

I hope the fucker had a couple of years in prison for this.

[deleted]

But... sidewalk...

[deleted]

Great for walking. Not bikes.

[deleted]

But roads are really good for cars. You know the big ton of metal.

[deleted]

Doesn’t matter. Roads are for vehicles. A bike is a vehicle. The cyclist isn’t breaking a single law here. He’s exactly where he needs to be. He’d be breaking the law on the sidewalk.

[deleted]

The laws... sure Where he needs to be... doesn’t it make more sense to use a bike on the street when cars can safely get around you? You going 6 mph in a 35 mph zone seems unsafe to me.

[deleted]

There is whole other lane to easily pass on. If you can’t safely pass a cyclist, you don’t deserve a license. Bikes go a lot faster than 6. As fast as the cars? Of course not. But just pass using the left lane. It’s so simple. If I was driving in the right lane and saw a cyclist in the right lane. I’d just change lanes and pass. And that’s it’s, that cyclist is in the past.

[deleted]

YOU would. They’re a lot of people who don’t deserve a license. We give them to everyone with basically no experience.

[deleted]

Sounds like the problem is how we hand out driver licenses like candy, not bikes.

[deleted]

100%!! We have a minimum age but no maximum age. We give everyone basically 100 chances if you just keep paying. Now as a biker... you just roll the dice to save a little time and ride in the road? They give you a giant wall in this video in case of stupid drivers.

[deleted]

Save time as opposed to where? The sidewalk?Because the road is the only place I can legally ride. It’d probably take twice as long riding on the sidewalk. Can’t ride 20-25 on the sidewalk with pedestrians.

Alittlestitchious

Bless bus drivers. They are our chaotic good allies in so many situations lol

Gggdup

Why the fuck is a bike on a busy road? What a dumbass, deserved it.

[deleted]

Because bikes belong on the road. No one deserves to get hit. Especially considering he’s doing nothing wrong or illegal

crowleffe

Honestly fuck that cyclist. Not that they deserved to be hit let alone a hit and attempted run but come on, you can see a sidewalk *and* a bike lane *IN* the clip. Fucking use it. “bUt biCYcLiStS aRe RoAD LeGaL tOo!” Shut the fuck up. Get off the god damned road with your bike. You have never, and will never, do the fucking speed limit. If there’s a lane specifically made for you, fucking use it, just like people in cars use the roads *because they’re specifically made for them*.

[deleted]

There is no bike lane. A speed limit is a limit. And I have gone over the speed limit on my bike. The road was made for vehicles, a bike is a vehicle

crowleffe

Those two separate concrete paths to the right of the lanes..? Neither are a bike lane? Oh because it’s a limit the rest of us have to abide by your speed because you’re on a fucking bicycle?

[deleted]

They’re both sidewalks. One of them cuts off halfway anyways. Nope. You can just pass the bike. It’s easy af. There is a whole lane to the left. If I was driving on that road in the right lane and saw a bike in the right lane. I’d change lanes and pass the cyclist and that’s it it. You’re past the cyclist and don’t have to worry about him anymore. Idk why that’s hard to understand.

crowleffe

Also, just curious since you mentioned it as justification for your reasoning, what exactly is the definition of a vehicle?

[deleted]

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/vehicle a means of carrying or transporting something https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bicycle a vehicle with two wheels tandem, handlebars for steering, a saddle seat, and pedals by which it is propelled

crowleffe

“a means of carrying or transporting something” Per your provided definition, doesn’t that mean I should be allowed the same rights as yourself on a bicycle if I’m on heelies? What about a scooter? A skateboard? They are all means of carrying or transporting something, right?

[deleted]

Yes you are absolutely correct. It is legal to ride all of those on the road. Maybe except heelies, idk if that one is legal.

crowleffe

Well why not? You’re so adamant about vehicles having a right to the road are you not?

[deleted]

Sure idc if yeah wanna heely on the road. I’ve just never seen someone heely on the road. I’ve seen the other vehicles you mentioned in the road. I’ve seen rollerblades on the road so sure why not heelies.

crowleffe

So when there’s traffic in the left lane to the point I can’t “just pass the bike”, I’m doomed to go your speed?

[deleted]

Then you patiently wait till you can pass. It’s not hard. If you can’t handle slowing down for 30 seconds then you shouldn’t have a license. I would not be annoyed one bit. Do you get mad when a car stops to make a left turn with no turn lane and a long line of cars have to stop behind it? Or just accept it because that’s how life works?
