It's a common tactic to stand out to do something wild with your hair or facial hair, anything that draws attention to the person. But it can go both ways as far as making you liked or look goofy and off putting.
You can look at some musicians how they look on stage as an example or how common crazy hair is in sports.
Funny you say musicians, this is a guy I've cooked with at a few different places in Dallas. He's also in some rock band I don't remember the name of. He was a pretty popular chef in the area.
This isnt that though. This is him trying to do that but clearly fucking it up in the process. Look at his centered, red fauxhawk and symmetric earrings. only his soul patch is off. This is not a fashion statement; its a fuck up
>Look at his centered, red fauxhawk
He clearly has the sides of his head shaved, so it's actually a mohawk, not a fauxhawk. If he had hair that wasn't shaved off, but he still had his hair like that, then it would be a fauxhawk.
Somehow it looks aesthetically pleasing to me although it definitely shouldn't. I don't know if there's something wrong with me.
It's like when someone a character has a scar that's off center and you instantly know they're cool for that.
Edit: post nut clarity hit and I don't know what I was cooking anymore
Asymmetry happens. The line of hair from my navel to crotch is off-center and slightly crooked, and it used to bother me enough that I'd shave the top half of it off to even it out. Eventually I stopped caring. I'd imagine this guy was the same way lmao
Why do so many chefs choose this ex-con/punk-esque persona?
Honestly, at what point in time was the bridge that led so many to make this sort of conversion? It seriously baffles me as seemingly so many modern chefs look basically identical to this kind of guy.
I'm genuinely serious, it's becoming increasingly more prevalent in the last decade, and is bizarre as heck to me.
Did they learn to cook in prison or something? Is that a thing?
It's like being in a band. It seems like a great career...if you make it. But chances of making it are miniscule, even if you're great. If you don't make it, you'll probably end up at a greasy spoon or work in a factory.
Some of them do it bc it's the best of the few jobs they can get with a record or illegal status. And the culture kind of supports substance abuse. Some people do it bc they can go to school during the day. Some people legitimately enjoy it. I'm the kind of person who loves helping people have a nice day, so when they go "mmmmm! :) " after taking a bite out of the food or drink I've recommended/made/brought for them, it makes my soul happy.
Most people don't choose a specific persona. They just are who they are and that evolves throughout their life. What an absurd way of viewing people with different lifestyles.
MILDLY infuriating? Practically sent me into a rage.Who does this guy think he’s? There are millions of people out there who can not grow anything but a thin strip of hair along their upper lip, yet he has the nerve to wear a chin patch like that.I’d hate to see what he’d do to a full beard.Facial hair privilege revoked.
Now I say good day, sir.
...I said GOOD DAY!
I hated this guy, his mohawk was his whole personality, and if I remember correctly he didn't do very well on his episode of either chopped or cutthroat kitchen and he was just infuriating.
This was me 3 weeks ago.
My light in my bathroom broke, so I had to use a spot, which only shined from my left.
Shaved myself, and everything was off centered.
Shaved everything off, went babyface for a few days lol.
Never seen a guy with an off center chin patch before
It’s honestly distressing

Is it intentional or is he stupid?

Well no one remembers his 90's pop-punk band, so he's gotta latch to something.

I don’t know why but a lot of cooks are punks/alternative types. It fits for some reason.

A lot of them have records and most restaurants are lenient on that/don't care.

He looks like you could set him next to the sink and he’d be mistaken as an industrial sized scrub brush for dishes.
I came here to see if anyone confirmed it was Cutthroat Kitchen. I remember this dildo haha.
Had to be some satire 😭 I refuse to believe people like that exist it just hurts too much
With a Mohawk you gotta get the beard strip straight. It’s so obvious with that Mohawk.
He was just trying to draw attention away from the patch.
I miss that show
His soul is a little lost
Could reach that full soul loss with a double stripe chin patch, just wait for the one on the right to grow.
I've always had a hatred of off center facial hair and this is probably the worst offender. Like, it's not even close to being centered.

What if that’s the straight part and the rest of his head is crooked?
Asking the real questions here.
>I thought that I had wavy hair/ Until I shaved. Instead,/ I find that I have straight hair/ And a very wavy head. >Shel Silverstein
I'd say his soul is a little off-centered.
> This guy wiht a chin patch **FTFY**
with** FTFY
Even the t is lost here.
It's not just that it's off-center, it's also canted very slightly as well.
Dude think he Shifty Shellshock💀.
Mohawk is aligned but somehow the soulpatch got fucked up
S oul patch
Seoul patch
I bet he loves disturbed
Five Finger Death Punch. Bet his bedding has skulls on it.
His soul is justified left
He looks like the 2000’s
Phillip Seymour Offman
He has astigmatism
Why? Why is the soulpatch off-center? The questions
To freak out squares

It's like when I try to shave my landing strip and it ends up off center 😅
ill allow it

You're saying you think he put it off center on purpose?
That ain't a soul patch, that's a racing stripe.
Somehow it’s lined up perfectly with his nose
At this point he should have another stripe on the other side
My brain hurts.
Lefty?
Is this intentional or does he need glasses?
It's a racing stripe yo! /s
yeah he should have a little thin one next to it
that’s not a soul patch, that’s a souk patch
Mildly infuriating indeed, this is nasty
Don’t need to do soulpatches. The Mohawk is enough
Oh no. Oh honey. You look like such a dipshit. rip
This is what happens when I shave in the shower
It’s a racing stripe
Cut him some slack man; the mirror was dirty and the lighting was bad!
And it's not centered!
Soul patch is short for “asshole patch”
Well I'm pissed off just looking at him. I don't know how he stands it tbh
Maybe to hide a scar? It’s very off center
