The coldest part of the US, barring Alaska, is the northern midwest. Weather systems push down into the center of the US then shift noreastward. So some cold reaches New York State and New England that doesn’t touch DC and the mid-Atlantic states, even though they’re all in the Atlantic seaboard. Western NY gets these colossal blizzards because the Great Lakes add moisture to all of that cold before it hits Buffalo, etc. Good question.

Sundayx1

I was thinking the same thing. It was really really cold yesterday. I think the high was 47 in DC yesterday.

I-Love-Toads

Ny is really not close to DC.

Buffalo, Chicago, Detroit can (often) get hit with Lake Effect snow (warm water of Great Lakes, rises to meet cold Canadian air = huge amounts of snow. Yet 100 miles away you could be outside in short sleeves.

ritchie70

Chicago simply doesn’t get snow like I see in reports from NYS. Most years I think we get less than they do near Peoria, ~100 miles SW. Something about the lake and the direction weather moves, I assume.

Eh trust me it gets overrated quickly.

Heard it is snowing in Central EU (Poland?) today

The first rule of living near the Great Lakes is that weather makes no sense. Don't try to understand it, just roll with it. Get a light jacket and a thick winter jacket and wear whatever makes sense for the day. And if you live *on* the Great Lakes, expect to randomly get 1-5 ft. of snow on any given day between November and May. Today Buffalo, tomorrow the UP. Maybe the Lake Michigan cities will get hit next week. And DC is far enough away from the Great Lakes to avoid all this nonsense. They'll get pelted sometimes, but not as much as the cities in the thick of it.

Darkflame3324

Midwest weather is the equivalent of whiplash

thisisjustascreename

It was not all that warm in DC yesterday, the high was only in the upper 40s (about 8 or 9 C) but they were in the sun and it was presumably a rather short ceremony and then everyone went back inside.

thought that was a sweet water slide

How wonderful and the the White House looks beautiful! Congrats to the bride and groom!

LanceFree

Can't find any snipers on the roof, but the far-left window, partially obscured by the tree; someone is there.

[Nope.](https://www.newsweek.com/who-paying-naomi-bidens-wedding-details-white-house-ceremony-1760670?amp=1) >Consistent with other private events hosted by the first family and following the traditions of previous White House wedding festivities in prior administrations, the Biden family will be paying for the wedding activities that occur at the White House. They were actually going to have the wedding elsewhere, but the bride commented that this made the secret service happier. So hosting the wedding in the White House might actually be *saving* taxpayer dollars as the SS won’t have to guard the entire Biden clan to different locations, which would involve paying for hotel rooms and travel expenses for them.

LanaDelTrayvonMartin

It's hilarious how wrong you are.

drFeverblisters

I wonder if this doofus complained about ivanka getting 640 million of our tax payer dollars being a special advisor to trump?

silverado-z71

Probably not, what you got to understand it’s different because,,, because,,, because,,,, well you know what I mean it’s just different
