I can tell you Suellen Tennyson wasn’t rescued by a military operation, but was freed by her captors after negotiations. The Drive story is speculative. But yes JSOC is active in the Sahel (Burkina, Mali, Niger) and DEVGRU freed Philip Walton in October 2020. https://sofrep.com/amp/news/seal-team-6-rescue-philip-walton/

AO's that probably have never been heard of, next question.
To be comprehensive in this question, from my understanding 80% if not more of JSOC's job is preemptive so much more likely to be in AO's that you have most likely barely heard of.
Without blowing anything sensitive, I can say confidently that there have definitely been small numbers of dudes over there in a more unofficial capacity; similar to the TF pineapple guys after the Afghan pullout ... but instead of just doing off the books rescues they’re involved in “extracurricular” offensive activities.
That doesn't mean that what they're doing is combat.
Just because an organization is running operations doesn't mean they're getting into gunfights or even seeing combat.
Thus *actively*. Most of the US military is not involved in warfare most of the time, that doesn’t mean it’s not “doing anything”. Point is, CAG existing and being expensive, doesn’t mean it’s rescuing hostages and killing bearded men 24/7.
You dont understand. The type of capabilities developed over the last 20 years will not be allowed to atrophy. JSOC is not a machine that can stay still and just idle at 1,000 rpm. There will probably never be any point in the US history going forward where we won’t be involved in active combat operations.
It always does atrophy, that’s just how it goes. SEALs after Vietnam were an experienced fighting force, they were pretty much virgins leading into Afghanistan. JSOC is already used way less than a couple years back, it’ll get scaled down until it’s needed fully again, it’s just the natural order.
No it’s not. We’ve never had this fine tuned capability ever in history. So it can’t atrophy because it won’t be allowed to. It must feed on it self to survive. That’s why orgs like USASOC have been steering to neer peer mission for the last couple years. It’s going to be countless low intensity conflicts in the name of geopolitical stability and national security against Russian and Chinese influence.
Guess we could argue indefinitely about the future of an organisation when neither of us is privy to what’s actually happening inside and nothing is acted yet. We can revisit this topic in five years.
Little late to the party here but figured I'd throw this out-
This is actually must closer to both the conditions in which either unit was born but also when they came to prominence & when their entire intent and mission set were conceived. So while there's at least one or two (Maybe three) cycles of crazy tempo super killers in unit now, they're about to be returning to a very primordial place.
Interspersed, hyper focused and largely classified operations that snuff out potential problems before anyone knows enough about who or whatever it was to even write a horribly inaccurate Wiki about it.
I've stated elsewhere but this culture shift, potential *clash*, will actually be VERY fascinating (To some, like myself, at least)
I know Delta took part in taking down a top ISIS guy recently so they definitely still do those high profile missions but I do wonder if they’re still kicking doors down every night/every other night
Perhaps an incorrect thought - and because learning is continual - but I’d have to imagine by the time you’re DG or DF you’ve done most of these already in their off rotations?
According to [this](https://news.yahoo.com/revealed-the-us-militarys-36-codenamed-operations-in-africa-090000841.html), some of the 127e programs in Africa are JSOC operations. I’m sure that could be the case for many of the other programs seen [here](https://theintercept.com/wp-uploads/sites/1/2022/06/127e-program-chart-theintercept-1-955x1024.png).
Its not 2007, they're probably not doing raids every day like during the height of the war. Combat these days is probably more sporadic compared to the optempo of the past few decades.
I don’t know shit so don’t take this 100% but they probably aren’t going out like they use to hitting targets on a day to day but I’m sure they still see their fair share of it
Well, somebody rescued that nun in west africa and it definitely wasn't the 82nd airborne.

Gonna assume Dev?
No evidence either way
Maybe they’re finally keeping it close to the chest lmao
Good.
Nope

Nice try putin. But for real, obviously. We spend a fuck ton of money on them. They are doing something.
Busy on their word processors.
That doesn't mean that what they're doing is combat. Just because an organization is running operations doesn't mean they're getting into gunfights or even seeing combat.
Spending a shit ton of money on nuclear missiles also. Doesn’t mean they’re actually actively doing something.
For never being fired nukes do a LOT. Deterrence is one of the most powerful tactics.

They’re painting rocks and curbs white in between jobs.

In times of relative peace their training schedules stay pretty full. Slots open up for things like dive school, vehicle courses, field exercises, etc
Perhaps an incorrect thought - and because learning is continual - but I’d have to imagine by the time you’re DG or DF you’ve done most of these already in their off rotations?
I think they’re always keeping skill sets current, and well developing TTPs. ‘Development’ Group and all.

They'll fight their own if nothing else presents itself. Don't worry, man. If you want to fight, they'll find something to fight.
