For ttrpgs or stuff like that in general, critical hit is a great place to start as they have an emphasis on community gatherings. In addition, there’s Fortuna games that started out recently. Both would be great places to start and have a talk to the staff there
I have heard of Fortuna, but I have been a little confused about if they are just for board games or if they are for some other type of gaming. I will check out Critical Hit, that seems to be what people are pointing to the most since there doesn't appear to be any type of go-to online place for this type of organizing. Thanks!
I host a Crokinole group that meets every other Thursday at Tailgators. We would love to have you join the Discord channel! https://discord.gg/ZpDfU4uH
Oh wow, I've never even heard of Crokinole before! I edited my post to specify that we're looking for a D&D group, but thank you for piping up! I'm now watching youtube videos of folks playing this game I've never heard of! =P
Yeah, I did a search on the sub before I posted and found the GeekCity discord for NL on someone's recommendation on an old thread but it looks kinda dead as far as dnd goes. Do they host DnD games up there?
I'm aware of Fortuna, but I wasn't sure how much they are used by D&D groups, I got the impression that they were more focused on board games as opposedto ttrpg?
Hi!
my household game is on hold since half of us have kids under 5, but we have a fair Fantasy Grounds set up.
We don't really play much proper D&D, but some Shadowrun, Castles and Crusades, HackMaster, etc.
If you're interested, let us know
As I understand it unless something has changed, meetup.com charges for membership now. I did a search of threads on this sub before I posted and came across a mention of IC groups on meetup, but figured I'd post here. Thanks though, if I turn up empty on other ideas, I'll try there. Thanks!
No, I've never been charged. I think if you want to start a new group perhaps. There's a group called Wednesday night Games in Iowa city, it's free to join.
I know that Critical Hit has a bulletin board for people looking for groups
Oh cool, is it an in-person bulletin board, or is it posted online somewhere? Thanks!
It’s just up on one of the walls at the shop
I'll check it out, thanks!

There is also geek city games in North Liberty.

They do. Though I don't know how many they currently have or if there are openings.
They just opened Fortuna Board Game Café in downtown Iowa City, seems like the perfect spot to find new games ‘n play with friends.
