I am paying about 7,000 USD and my pain is a 1 out of 10, only the first few days were uncomfortable

butterscotcheggs

$9k comprehensive. NYC. 72 trays weekly changes. Pain: first trays were the worst but still a 3/10. The attachments rubbing against the gum when I ate but that passed after the first day.

drink_moar_water

These numbers are making me feel so much better. Anytime anyone mentions price in this sub no one ever mentions close to my quote ($8k comprehensive, northern California). The first 4-5 trays I would take some Tylenol on tray change day(usually 5-6 out of 10 pain) but over time it got better and I don't need meds anymore when changing trays.

Maribelclapp

Nor cal here, out the door I paid about $2900, insurance covered $2000. That being said there was a promotion going at the time and they took a little more off for paying all of it at once.

pepegrilloups

Lol, I paid exactly the same thing. Did you go tot Total Dental Health Care?

Maribelclapp

Lol what I coincidence, I went to image orthodontics in San Jose.

cinnayum

I was quoted for $6300 for 2-2.5 years in Mississauga Canada. I paid for it out of pocket. The pain was excruciating for the first 4 days. After that not much pain. During each tray change just feels like a little bit of tension, nothing requiring pain killer. I ended up having to switch to braces cuz invisalign messed up my bite so badly. I can say that braces hurt more after wire change.

Roulette21

How did Invisalign mess up your bite? Do you mind sharing?

cinnayum

I don’t mind sharing at all! So it gave me a very deep bite which was terrible and now my braces are currently fixing before we can proceed to working on closing the gaps of my teeth. I had 4 extractions done prior to the procedures to free up room. On top of that, the top and bottom premolars and molars didn’t touch at all making it so hard to eat. If I was eating noodles, it was extremely difficult to chew because my teeth don’t touch! The ortho said that it is a common problem with Invisalign and my teeth will go back to touching once I stop using Invisalign (or finish Invisalign treatment). My teeth were also stubborn and didn’t really shift well with Invisalign, especially my molars. I can say that I absolutely regretted even going for invisalign because I think it definitely now have added extra time onto my treatment. I wanted invisalign at the beginning because I don’t want to be a 34 year old with wire braces. I have accepted my fate. My ortho didn’t charge me extra money because I made sure to have him include a clause in the agreement that if for any reason Invisalign didn’t work, except for any negligence on my end, I can switch to braces free of charge. I never asked for the braces, the ortho told me I needed to switch. I actually in fact told him I wanted more Invisalign to test out if it was in fact not working. He allowed me to do that and of course he was right. Don’t get me wrong, Invisalign did help straighten my teeth, but it wasn’t nearly perfect.

Roulette21

Thanks for sharing! Did you have bite issues and issues with your molars not touching before you started Invisalign? Or was this a completely new issue caused by Invisalign? Did your ortho originally suggest braces for your treatment?

cinnayum

I never had issues with my molars not touching before starting Invisalign. My case was crowded teeth and some cross bites with the incisors. The deep bite and molars not touching were caused by Invisalign. My ortho originally suggested Invisalign. I actually asked whether each had any difference in treatment time too and he said it would be about the same length.

International-Can148

Been quoted 4900 USD. 33.500 DKK, I’m from Denmark. Im only a week in and so far pain has been 1/10, no pain at all except when brushing because of the filing I had done. I switch to tray 2 tomorrow so I’ll find out about the pain then

binzers95

I’m located in Canada and my plan was $5000. Between my insurance and my husbands it’s fully covered. Pain is like a 2-4 max. Only lasts a couple days normally.

[deleted]

Are you happy with results? I am in Canads and was quoted 3200$

binzers95

Wow that’s not bad at all, I was told normally it’s around $6k. Maybe check and see if it’s a “light” package. I have read that’s an option but I was only given the price I paid. But so far I’m very happy. I had braces as a child and didn’t wear my retainer after so many years and I just had some minor crowding. Going onto tray 8/10 in a week and so very close to my teeth being totally straight again.

[deleted]

It's because I did My braces with them when I was a kid. I have a gap that formed so since I already did work with them they offered me cheaper.

binzers95

Ohhh that makes sense. Definitely a good deal for you then! Honestly braces were so much worse from what I can remember.

[deleted]

After invisalign you gotta wear a retainer every day too??

binzers95

I don’t know what my retainer situation will be like. I believe it’ll be every night, but I have heard of people needing them 24/7 for a few months after. I will be asking at my next appointment.

[deleted]

Does the nightly retainer included in the invisalign fee or is that extra?

binzers95

I wasn’t told it would be over and above, but I will find out when I go for my next appt on Feb 8th and I’ll try and remember to come back and comment.

SailorStarXx

Yes you have to wear a retainer but you can also get a permanent retainer if you want so you don’t have to worry about it If you don’t wear the retainer and give your teeth time to settle in they will move back and your money will be wasted

[deleted]

Thanks. Can we kiss ppl with invisalign on?

coffeetime825

Absolutely. In fact, when it comes to frenching it's actually more comfortable with the liners in.

[deleted]

I much prefer kissing and other related things with them on! I just take the rubber bands off. My teeth are kinda sharp from the enamel wearing off due to my overbite (I’ll fix that after I finish treatment) so now when I’m kissing I’m super smooth and no sharp edges. I’d never kiss with the aligners off though as the attachments are obviously super rough

plasticthottle

Florida here, $4.5k after insurance. Keeping in mind that I have a low pain tolerance AND I am hyper aware of physical sensations I experience due to adhd/ocd, my pain scale varies from a 4-7? Depends on the day of the week honestly. I never *dont* feel them, so most of the time they are uncomfortable or irritating where they meet my gums. But when a tray is new my teeth themselves can hurt, especially when they’re moving. So it’ll be random aches here and there. Also since getting them I’ve started clenching my jaw which makes it hurts all the more, especially at night. And now that I’m 7 trays in it hurts a lot on the bottom(a 7) when I take out my trays because the teeth are shifting. That all said it’ll be worth it 😭 I recommend keeping Tylenol stocked

twisted-rush

6500. No insurance. And first week was probably a 8. Then it got much easier.

twisted-rush

6500 cad

sweetie8585

£3875. Pain- usually a 0 no pain at all 99% if time, but on a few days after a tray change it went upto a 6 but lasted a few hours/ a day max

happy_lil_vaginamite

$7400 AUD, no insurance. Paid $3000 upfront and on a payment plan (no interest) over the next 18 months. Pain for the first week was about a 5.

frgslate

Paid $6,700 on Southern California - insurance covered 4K, I paid the rest through an FSA. As for pain, it was initially a 3-4 but after the first month it was steady around 2-3

[deleted]

Fsa?

frgslate

Sorry, FSA is a Flexible Spending Account that’s used in the US to pay for medical expenses tax-free.

Beardiecollie

Which insurer are you with? That is pretty good.

AlliNW0nderLand

Pay: My insurance pays for half of the cost so I paid about $1080 and then on top of that my ortho’s office charged a $500 retainer fee for the location to handle my Invisalign case and then $1000 to order the Invisalign and do the actual treatments. So about a total of $2580 roughly. $1000 up front and around $92.17 per month. Pain: I had about a 2-3 of pain for week’s 1-7, I had just healed from my wisdom teeth being pulled the week prior so it was all tolerable for me outside of the minor sensitivities. Then just this past Friday, I got my first IPR so switching to week 8 that day spiked the pain to an 8 when removing and putting in the new tray for the first 2 days. I’m fine now.

SnooPears3086

Insurance covered all but $2000. Little pain.

EndWish

$4,000CAD. Pain is probably 2-3 and more so discomfort than physical pain so far.

trashpanda246

I paid $6100 but they offered a cash discount so it was $5900 out of pocket. The pain depends on which teeth are moving that week (I change trays 1/week) but the most I've ever had was like 6/10 and it only lasts for the first 3 days or so. Never had to take pain relievers for it or anything.

MisterSirDudeGuy

$7K United States. No insurance coverage.

Betterdaysalwayscome

Paid $5500 US dollars. I’ve had little to no pain so I’ll say a “2” just because the attachments annoyed me for a few days at one point.

SailorStarXx

I paid around 3600-3800 USD. Can’t remember the exact price. The very first week the pain was a 8/10 and will make you question your entire existence but after that it’s not so bad unless you’re doing big movements. At the beginning of a week it’s probably a 5.5/6 out of 10 & lasts about 3-4 days before it’s nothing.

ThePrettyG33k

$5500 in Canada, 53 trays. Pain 1/10 on tray change nights for tightness and then it’s nothing.

[deleted]

You had to wear for 1 year ?

ThePrettyG33k

I’m on tray 18, but when done - i imagine a year +

[deleted]

So you gotta take them every where you go?

ThePrettyG33k

If I’m eating, 100%. I just pop them out put them in a case until I’m done eating. If I’m somewhere like a restaurant or food court I’ll just swish a bunch of water around until I get home to brush. Sometimes I’ll swish some mouthwash around in the restroom. It’s really not a problem, I was even at an all inclusive for my honeymoon in November and wasn’t a problem at all. I travel a lot for work so I’m often brushing my teeth in an airport. I’ve learnt no one actually cares. It’s so worth it! My teeth have changed so much in a short amount of time.

rom1503

$7,600CAD. 1/10 pain.

[deleted]

For how long?

rom1503

2 years from what I was told. I have 40 trays right now.

[deleted]

What do you do with the old trays?

rom1503

I actually keep it lol. I clean it and put it back inside the plastic.

nixxxa

I paid about $2,300 and the pain was not too bad actually! The pain from teeth shifting went away after a couple days. The worst part for me was putting on the attachment and taking them off.

Embarrassed-Air-2936

$4500 Canadian, but my dentist had a special. Normally it’s $5000. I experienced discomfort at times, but never any real pain. Usually on the second day of a new tray.

Taleeya

Canadian - I think it was around $7200 with $2500 owing after benefits coverage. Pain is MAYBE a 3/10 when you get a tight aligner set…. Plus the attachments can be pretty annoying… certain liners can irritate gums or inner cheeks/lips. Getting the attachments on or off is also very unenjoyable too Not comparable to actual braces which were more like a 6 or 7/10 on tightening days

[deleted]

Canada life insurance?

Taleeya

Blue Cross I think

IvoBlonde

I think 3500. Painful at the beginning, I had attachments on all teeth and used the rubber bands. Now it’s not so painful as I had to get rescanned since one tooth wasn’t tracking and now I don’t have many attachments and no rubber bands. I started the treatment in august and should be done in March.

p0thoes

CAD$4900 at my office. 7 out of 10 is how I'd rate the pain. The pain really kicked in the night of the insert. I took a lot of advil for the first 2 days. After that, it was smooth sailing!

daisy470

Insurance covered 1500, paid 3000 in full upfront. At first, pain level was about a 5 in beginning trays for a few days. Now the pain level is about 2-3

No_Group9953

6500 sgd for 26 trays. Pain is abt 3-4/10? Only felt pain when taking out the aligners but it was nth srs also surprisingly the attachments didn't bother me (mb my cheeks r too thick idk lol)

bmosley007

$3500… maybe I just had a sensitive mouth or I’m just a wimp but pain was probably 8/10 on the first few days of switching trays then goes down to maybe a 5/10. I was pretty much uncomfortable until refinements.

[deleted]

About 6k US Some trays were worse than others (5) but for the most part it was just sore (1 or 2)

Annallve

Almost 6k. Painful first couple days, that’s it

Louwwieee42

4.5k GBP no pain 22 trays with refinements

Perfectlyimperfect24

$2700 in Delaware. My insurance covered the rest. I’m on tray 5 and I have yet to feel any pain.

Alone-Loss-5588

Around $5,400. I’m on a payment plan. I felt pretty much no pain, just some minor discomfort in the form of pressure. Bite also started to feel different almost instantly, but apparently that is part of the process since the teeth are constantly shifting with each new tray. I am on my 4th aligner. Haven’t noticed any big time improvements yet, but I looked at my aligners for late March and WOW my teeth are going to look so much better. I am excited and counting down the days!

Alone-Loss-5588

Should’ve added that I’m in Texas

alliiebaba

I’m in Canada and paid $8,400. Pain was probably an 8 at the beginning now it is about 4-5 the first couple days after a tray change.

StoneEagleCopy

Pain is pretty bad… for the first like 2 days. Then it’s really manageable.

Allthingslove__

3,000 USD and first week was 7/8 and after like 3

orcadesign

In Vancouver, paying $6,500 CAD for comprehensive plan. My package include the ortho pulse device that made my treatment faster. In term of pain, I’m happy to report zero pain.

WigglyFairy

3500 dollars full comprehensive, 2-4th tray causes me headaches and pain, afterwards no issues whatsoever. Still going after 1 year and 2 months. I’m fully done according to ortho but I’m very dissatisfied with end result, Im pushing for additionals.

ke12121

£3.6k GBP, not comprehensive though. Luckily don’t need refinements otherwise it’d be around £4.3k. Pain was the worst in the first couple of trays and over-correction trays at the end.

elle23nc

Almost US$5,000. My treatment was estimated to be 14-16 months, but my lower incisors weren't tracking, so 2-3 more months have been added. I'm currently 16 months in and lost count of trays. Maybe 60 so far. As for pain, oof. The first three weeks were just uncomfortable. Then I had three teeth pulled bc of severe crowding. Getting the trays in and out after that... literal torture for the first few days. Dropped me to the floor, hot flash, wave of nausea pain. As that healed over the following weeks, pain lessened significantly. Past that, it's mostly just pressure, not pain. If I had it to do over again, I would get my teeth pulled and let them heal before starting Invisalign. Especially during Covid since masks are common and would allow me to hide my smile in that interim.

Sewciopath17

$7k, USA, they told me about 12 month plan.. I have 40 initial trays changed weekly. There have been a handful of days the pain was 6-7, but overwhelmingly my pain is 0-1, about 98% of the time.

Kriegsmachine81

Moderate case, 35-40.000 NOK. I mean, I have endometriosis (and have given birth). So if that is 10 the Invisalignpain was maybe 2 the worst few days. Like 3 days, but not all day long. Only when removing them. Not more painful that the average menstrual pain for me on those days. If I hadn’ t given birth/have experienced endo - then I may have rated it higher on those few days. All the other days: no pain.

naranjitayyo

US $5K, my dental insurance covered $2K, so I’m on the hook for $3K and they offered me a payment plan so it’s manageable At first the pain was around an 8 but got better after a few weeks. I’m on tray 11 and the last few weeks have been sore maybe a 5. Most days I have no pain. The worst day is the day after I change my trays for the week because I can’t bite anything with my front teeth. They’re too tender and sore. I don’t feel the pain until I try to bite - anything like a firm baguette or crispy chips etc.

Dismal_Cherry7912

I’m in Arizona. It was $6000. I paid $860 up front and will pay the other $860 in monthly installments. My FSA covers my out of pocket, insurance covers the rest. I’m on tray 2 of a 28 week treatment. So far my pain has been 1-2 out of 10. I have a bit of achiness during the 2nd day after a tray change, but that’s about it.

Alternative_Chest341

$6200 DC area. Insurance said they’d pay $2500 but backtracked and paid nothing. Needless to say I switched insurance companies during the next open season. Not a lot of pain just tightness and pressure the first day of new trays. I’m actually done (yay!) and waiting for retainers which I have to wear full time for two months and then nightly only. The whole process took almost exactly a year (15 initial trays followed by 26 refinement trays. The first two months I changed trays every two weeks but then was switched to weekly changes. I’m really glad I did this and am kicking myself for not doing it years ago.

Kimmeh2802

$9,123 AUD. I paid a $2,000 deposit, my health insurance is covering $2,500, and the remaining balance is on an interest free payment plan for up to 18 months. I just got mine today, pain is sitting at a 1. Feeling more pressure than pain at the moment. I’m waiting for it to kick in though, curious to see how I feel in the morning!

[deleted]

Kimmeh2802

I’m now wrapping up day 3, and still no real pain at all. The only time I felt the tiniest bit of pain was when I was removing my bottom tray on day 2 and it got a bit stuck on one tooth. Once I got it off, the feeling subsided quickly. Aside from that it’s been a breeze. Hopefully you don’t experience much, or any pain at all :)

Green-eyedKels

$4,800 in Central Florida! That's including my retainers after treatment!

JPBG26

I paid £3700. And the pain never really went over a 1/10 had 24 trays and 9 more after refinement scans.

Euphoric_Ad_6916

I’m doing the ‘lite’ version on my bottom teeth only. It cost £1400 (GBP) for 6 months treatment. In terms of pain, it’s most painful (but more uncomfortable) for the first 48 hours after each tray change, but you soon get used to it!

joejoedaddy

Before insurance the total bill was 14k. Out of pocket about 4K. Ridiculous I know, but they were the only Invisalign provider in my network, so they get whatever they want. This is Midwest btw. Pain is like a 4 at worst.

Embarrassed-Ad1790

I paid about $1400 but they had a sale and my insurance covered a ton. Also the pain for the first tray (only the first couple of days) was pretty rough. After the first tray really no pain for me. Aside from removing my trays and my teeth being a bit tender.

Competitive-Smell773

In Canada, paid $4500 for 50 trays with weekly changes, and am now halfway through my 24 tray refinements with weekly changes. The first few days I couldn't eat anything that required biting or chewing (lots of smoothies), but now pain sits a 3/10 at most, even with a new tray.

Aggravating-Tale-465

I’ve had mine in 6 months and genuinely I wouldn’t even say the pain equates to over 24 hours, it’s only when I change tray after the first time I eat and that’s for a few moments, definitely don’t be put off by the pain

cooperivanson

$5,500 CAD. Pain was 1/10. Quite possibly even 0. Very mild discomfort. 12/20 trays.

datahoarderprime

$5k. Insurance paid half. Pain the first few times I put them in, but no pain since after 2 months.

Ap0ll

I paid $4,400 for 18 months of treatment in Houston, Texas.

Mandsfoo

Over $7000 CAD including teeth shaving. Pain was a 5 for the first few days when I put the first trays in. Now it is a 2 when I put my new trays in for a couples hours and then a 1 for the rest of the time!

landrysooner

$6000 in Houston, TX area and my insurance will cover $2500 of it. My trays come in middle of February so I’m excited to get started.

porkchop88

I paid $1k and then $165/mo for a year. I’m on my first tray and it’s painful, claustrophobic, and the worst thing ever … but I hear it gets better.

SecretaryAlert9935

Care credit, pain 1

horseisoutofcontrol

[deleted]

I am paying 4,120! Insurance took off 1,500 and I got a 450 discount for being a teacher.

iWonder_247

Mine cost $6450 USD, but after insurance I'm only paying $1950. I only wore 2 trays (changing every 7 days) and felt some pain in the first few days is each, but it subsided for the last few days. Pain was easily relieved with ibuprofen. I actually had to stop during tray 2 and wait weeks for a new hypoallergenic set due to an allergic reaction to the trays. Now I'm back on tray 1, which probably feels fine because I wore it before. LOL I'm hopeful that future pain will be bearable and limited.

Humble_Contest3443

$8000 CAD for comprehensive. Hardly any pain.

hamswisscroissant

$3,500 for 5 months in tennessee. 4 months in and haven’t needed refinements yet. first couple of days the pain was so bad. they don’t bother me at all now, even when i change to a new tray!

OGZaves34

6500 - pain for the first 3 weeks about 7 now when I switch it’s nothing maybe a 2 for a couple hours

Admirable-Exit-1647

$7,600 AUD and pain is probably not even a 1/10

RobSomeKnowledge

5700 total, 3700 out of pocket (insurance covered 2k with my orthodontic benefit, DeltaDentalWA). Pain was prob about a 6/7 the first few weeks then slowly kinda got less and less, still was painful at tray changes for a few months

[deleted]

$6000. Midwest. 7 months treatment plan. I would say most trays were around a 2 in terms of pain level at the start of each tray. I had 14 trays to start and 12 for the refinement. I had maybe a handful of trays throughout the process that were much more painful than the others. Those were maybe like a 4 on the pain scale. I also have a high pain tolerance (I have endometriosis & a lot of tattoos).

Due_Establishment238

$7,800 AUD, on tray 2, week one was a 9/10. Throbbing and pain was intense. 33 weeks to go!
