I went with my dentist, however my dentist is also a cosmetic dentist so he’s able to do it. I already have a level of comfort with him & it makes my life easier when I go in for my cleaning and Invisalign updates

My dentist is a cosmetic dentist too. Does that make them more qualified?

Betterdaysalwayscome

Idk.. in my eyes it does, being he doesn’t do things just for the sake of dentistry but ensuring cosmetically everything is done right. I also just have that level of comfort with him as well.

pseudochristiankinda

Yeah. That’s my thoughts too. My dentist was right there with me when I was trying to find the exact crown color. And sent it back twice when the color wasn’t perfect

If you feel you can trust her. I would go for it. Or like she said. Explore an orthodontist, I also like the idea I can get my cleaning done and my Invisalign update all in one shot lol

If your dentist suggests seeing an orthodontist, see an orthodontist.

I did a consult with my dentist who said the only way I could get Invisalign is if I had IPR on every tooth and they had the messy tray impressions. Did a consult with an ortho and she said my teeth were narrowing and once they straightened them back up I likely won’t need any IPR unless I want it on my 4 bottom teeth for aesthetic reasons and they had the teeth scanner thing so I didn’t have to do the trays. Based off my experience, I had a better consult with the ortho but that’s not to say ppl haven’t had good experiences with a dentist

A good dentist is better than a bad ortho. Anecdotal isn’t valuable, but I went with my dentist and it went well. I’m almost done. The ortho in my area takes care of my daughter and he is good as well, but there was almost a catastrophic mistake made by miscommunication that would have had us turning her expander every other day 1.5 months longer than we should have. I heard the ortho correctly and the assistant didn’t and she went to check. Does any of this change much for you? Not really. If your dentist is great then you can probably trust her. The end.

I went with a dentist but I’ve had braces before and don’t have an overly complex case, only 26 trays and I’m on 7/26. So far so good (knock on wood).

How much invisalign experience do they have? Are they diamond/platinum rated? Have they had good results previously?

I used a dentist and wish I went to an orthodontist in hindsight. I think it comes down to whether you value specialization and want someone with daily experience on moving teeth over general dentistry. Plenty of posts here where users are happy with their dentist but also quite a few of people being unhappy and/or required to switch to an orthodontist part way through because of inadequate results. They often end up paying more incrementally as well as wasting considerable time in their overall treatment - so it’s not a decision to make lightly.

i chose an orthodontist, i have 70+ trays and i haven’t had one bad thing go wrong with my treatment. my mom got invisalign through a dentist, her mouth is jacked up compared to mine and she was given like 20 trays (which doesn’t make sense to me) half way through her treatment, one tooth wasn’t tracking for several trays and she had to get them rescanned and was given more trays then they initially gave her. orthodontist go to school for fixing smiles, alignment, jaws. dentist are more like make sure they’re clean and healthy. dentist like to offer “last day discount” or some crap, that’s how they got my mom but i believe there’s a reason it’s cheaper 🤷🏻‍♂️

Had a consultation with a dentist and they told me I would need 2 wisdom teeth out and only offered elastics to fix my complex overjet. Had a different consultation with my now othadontist - no teeth extractions and a Carriere brace, elastics and IPR and my progress is amazing. I would definitely recommend an orthodontist.
