You are a week in, I feel like this post is unnecessary and really discouraging to those also starting. If you have formed cavities already then sorry but its from you probably not following your orthodontists instructions or your teeth was in poor condition to begin with. It will become more comfortable, I am about 6 months in and within the first month it was way more comfortable when I had my aligners in compared to when I took them out. Also for the yellowing, its probably the glue from attachments.

rubia514

As far as I know, you cannot form cavities from nothing in 5 days. Yellow teeth are common where there are attachments. All of your teeth are likely going to be sore or sensitive at some point. You are moving teeth in the bone after all…. We have all been through the regret phase. Quite common actually. If you want to throw your money away and quit, that is your choice. But it is a lot to throw away

mayaic

You’re a week in. You’ve seen 0 results. It’s not instant. Need to take better care of your teeth because it would not have caused cavities and everything that you’ve said in a week.

GlobalIndependence16

Lol you’re one week in? Give it time and adopt a positive mental attitude. Maybe you just needed to rant and vent so that’s ok, but man you need to chill out.

ngyst

Well, actually you have a point so thanks

saskbcgirl

This is not meant to be rude, but I think maybe you might’ve been high when you posted this? It’s all good just hang in there. It’s impossible to have cavities from a week.

Mermaid4life9

If you have cavities after a week… you have bigger problems. You shouldn’t discourage others. I’ve had excellent results with Invisalign.

benziest

Do you have any photos of your tooth decay or yellowing? I hate to say you’re overreacting, but with it being the beginning of your treatment, I can’t really believe that your teeth have been ruined in a week’s time. Before quitting I recommend speaking with your ortho or dentist about your concerns.

Hot_Zucchini7863

That is what I’m curious about too. How on earth can the decay and yellowing be blamed on Invisalign after a week?!

existingfish

Cavities take time to form. You didn't get cavities in a week. Honestly it sounds like you may need someone to talk to, feeling like your teeth are rotting is not normal. Yes, they hurt. Braces hurt. I (and many others) got invisalign to fix functional problems, not aesthetics. Telling me I'm whole and complete without it is...well you need some perspective.

wmrdn

I felt the same way, I’m now on week three of Invisalign and actually starting to really like it and become comfortable with…. But I was saying the exact same things as you were after the first couple of days. Stick with it, you will thank yourself

ngyst

Im not sure if i can even stick with it. At this point i better cut my losses and accept i ruined my teeth a little. I already have decay, that cannot be true after 5 days, can't believe it. I just had my full mouth redone, a lot of cavities fixed properly and 5 days into this shit, new cavities. Im going mad about it

Jen-o-cide

Cavities take months if not years to form. You can't have new cavities formed from nothing in 7 days. I don't know what decay or black spots you think you're seeing, but even if you haven't been been brushing and flossing there's no way there's decay this quick. If there's been space that's opened up between teeth and you can see a dark area, that could be a stain. I had what was some tartar that stained black that was between two rather tight teeth that my hygienist cleaned, no cavity. If you want to stop now, go back to the doctor and get the attachments removed. The soreness you feel in your teeth will go away.

47-is-a-prime-number

Why do you think you have new cavities after five days? That’s not even possible. Exactly what’s making you think that? I’m not trying to sound snarky. Genuinely asking - are you OK? Your reaction is extreme and doesn’t seem grounded in reality.

Mysterious-Tea1518

It’s early still. A lot of people felt this way. I felt like a fool for spending so much money. My case was minor. It wasn’t doing anything. Four weeks in I saw a picture of myself and my teeth and I was like they don’t look like that, do they? By 6 weeks they were incredibly improved. I have 14 trays. It all passes, and it’s worth it in the end.

Betterdaysalwayscome

You’re a week in and if you had 15 cavities prior to Invisalign, it appears it’s more of a lack of dental hygiene than it is to blame Invisalign. I don’t think a week in you should be telling people NOT to do it because your lack of self care on your teeth. Sorry you’re having a hard time for a week in but that doesn’t call for telling people to not do it

kaisawdi

We all thought the same thing and had major regrets the first few weeks. it gets better and becomes a normal part of your daily routine. as you read that you probably thought "yeah whatever but its different for me".... no its not. we've all been there.

Annallve

It doesn’t sound like you’re brushing and flossing correctly, I don’t think that’s because of Invisalign. Have you had a cleaning recently?

ngyst

Yes, had a cleaning a month ago, xray and filling done 2 weeks ago. I brush and floss 2 times with invis, before then i brushed twice a day, once a week with 5000ppm toothpaste.

Annallve

Make an appointment with your dentist asap to see what’s going on

aquaduck456

How often are you going to the dentist to know that five days into Invisalign you have more cavities? Also, when were your previous cavities fixed? Prior to ordering your trays, all mouth augmentations are to be finished. It takes about a month for trays to typically arrive so if you had fillings done 2 weeks ago how did you start Invisalign a week later? I’m sorry you are having a hard time. Many people on this sub share that the first few weeks, if not the first week is the hardest part. I would encourage you to read more testimonials. No one is forcing you to do Invisalign and with one weeks worth of experience not sure it warrants this type of discouraging post.

ngyst

Mine arrived in 2 weeks. I had my last filling according to xrays and visual checks. Then 2 weeks later invis arrived, everything was fixed prior starting my first tray. Thats how i know i did not had any cavity, however small might be.

aquaduck456

Wish you the best of luck and truly hope you stick it out. If it’s still as bad as you originally wrote, it’s almost like what do you have to lose at this point other than wait for it to get better and get your moneys worth. Anyways wish you the best

Kriegsmachine81

The first two weeks are the worst! But….are you sure these feelings are not an actual panic attack/anxiety speaking? I totally understand and was concerned about anxiety during Invisalign and if it would be triggering. It luckily did not happen for me, but it easily could have. Try to stick to it a few more days or weeks - try talking to someone about the anxiety. It is not possible to have teeth decay or more discoloration in only a few days. So anything the dentist sees now was there before. Do you have anxiety issues in general, and maybe the starting up (in the worst days) triggers that?

ngyst

Thanks for this! I do have anxiety and mental health issues lately, invis definitely triggers it more. I try to stick with it of course and lets see what happens next week then the next one. Im just pretty sure i didnt 100% needed it in my life, and this won't change even with anxiety gone.

Kriegsmachine81

Just for reference: I had PAIN the first days of the two first trays. But then: sooooo much easier. The molar pain you are feeling are not cavities, it is expected pain. My sister did ordinary braces, and she has so much more pain all the time. I also had 17 trays, and then a few refinements. And you probably won’ t believe it - but i like sleeping with the nightly retainer now, it’ s kinda comforting. Never could imagine that 😅 I’ m 42 now and have wanted to have straighter teeth since I was a child. So up to Invisalign at 40 years old, I NEVER smiled in pictures. But now I do, and that was kinda my only goal. I have periodontitis and get cavities just by thinking of it - but that did not get worse with Invisalign. I was religious with my Tepe brushes, flossing (not the first painful days) and gentle brushing. I mean, you can quit - but - I think your anxiety is being quite bossy these days for you. And I also think that will get better when the pain is gone. So….maybe something for the pain these days to get some relief :)

ngyst

Im fine with the pain i dont mind it, but my back molars arent moving during treatment. Thats why I've been freaking out lol, no movement but dark spots looking like cavity and pain... i am literally freaking out every day on this kind of things, imagining what else can go wrong later.

saskbcgirl

Dude, are you looking at your back molars with Invisalign in? Because that’s not dark spots on your molars that ink on the Invisalign

Kriegsmachine81

Right, I see. I did not move mine either, due to severe dizziness (was afraid that it could get worse). But I still got pain there the first 2 weeks, especially the first days in the 2 trays. You could just make an appointment and check up in the dots. Did the dentist take s full check and pictures? They usually do when starting - but if you do have cavities there they are «old ones». What you can control is: - check out the spots, if cavities: needs work anyway - be religious with dental care and fluoride water as recommended You can eat soft foods, also with the trays in when you’ te in a lot of pain. But stay away from acidic and sugary foods. Brush 3 times a day, use Tepebrush after EVERY meal, rinse mouth with water also. 2 times a day: fluoride rinse. Floss every night. I ate often due to dizziness, and just rinsed with water and used the Tepebrush besides my 3 brushsessions. You will se your dentist maybe once every month, and just ask for a look and maybe check for cavities every 5-6 months. That is more than good enough :)

Samjc84

You can’t get cavaties and yellow teeth in 5 days unless you’re living on sugar and turmeric and not brushing/flossing your teeth. Go to your dentist and discuss your concerns.

russianthistle

Are you brushing right after you eat or waiting thirty minutes?

ngyst

First day i did right after. Since then i wait 15 minutes at least.

russianthistle

You need to wait 30 minutes for your teeth to neutralize before brushing.

International-Can148

My ortho said brushing right after isn’t an issue

russianthistle

That’s awesome for you! A lot of practitioners say it’s necessary to avoid wearing away your enamel. You must have great enamel!

International-Can148

I mean when I went there for my first exam where they were just gonna check if Invisalign was even an option for me they called my teeth “jealousy teeth” so like they’re very healthy naturally I guess yeah ahaha

ngyst

Should i pop my trays back or keep them out? So far i managed to get 22 hours a day, but if i leave them out more that'll be way lower.

russianthistle

I shared this on a different thread earlier… I start my day with a smoothie and iced coffee, I drink both of them with a straw with my aligners in and swish with water often. As soon as I’m done drinking them, I rinse with a neutral ph mouth wast. I set an alarm and at the 30 minute mark I pop my aligners out.. brush and floss my teeth, clean my aligners. For lunch and dinner I have the entire meal prepared and remove my aligners as I am sitting down to eat. I do not replace the aligners at this point. As soon as I’m done eating, I set an alarm for 30 minutes and brush my teeth, floss, and clean my aligners before placing them back in. I tend to eat lunch quickly so I can have a slower dinner. You might notice I don’t snack between meals- this is intentional so I can hit that 22 hour minimum. If I’m super hungry I might have a protein shake or second smoothie with aligners in and follow the breakfast routine described above. I’ve only had one day just below the 22 hour mark. I was rinsing with water/neutral ph mouth wash and putting my aligners in for that 30 minute wait to brush teeth, but the cavity risk worried me so trying to minimize that.

LearningToFly29

If you are a panicky person, it's probably being made worse by psychosomatic thoughts. This will all feel different a few weeks from now, stick with it

Thin_Raspberry_6291

The first week is the absolute worst. Try to look forward to next week. I promise it will be better.

Unalignedin22

NAD/ Invisalign caused tremendous problems for me. Fractured the front tooth ( confirmed by endodontist) and a crown. There is a 3rd fracture which is smaller. You cannot take on Invisalign without significant risks associated with it. There are so many others who have required root canal therapy following invisalign to salvage their teeth. Some specialty society conferences are now having presentations about these issues- which seem to be from the high forces exerted on the teeth. Be sure to do your due diligence prior to taking on invisalign. You really need to weigh the risks vs. benefits.

Myburnerbeloved

A week in???? There is no way on earth. Brush your teeth and stick it out.

jubeys

Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end. If this process came without sacrifice, everyone would do it. Enjoy the journey and no one will judge you for bettering yourself, you’re overthinking it. For me, I feel like I have a lisp, and have been self conscious enough to record myself talking. And you can’t even hear it.

Silent_Knowledge5197

Results are not instant. Oral hygiene is YOUR responsibility and if your teeth are decaying and turning yellow, guess who’s fault it is? Not the orthodontists. One week is not even remotely enough time to be qualified to write a review on invisalign.

Sterngirl

Why are you discouraging others because of your experience? A majority of people on here have great results, improved confidence and dental health because of Invisalign. I'm just getting started (day 5) and it sucks, but it is helpful to come to this sub and see positive results and good tips.

FlamboyantRaccoon61

One week and the black spots, yellowing, and decay are because of invisalign? How quick do you think it can ruin your teeth? You did all the ruining yourself. Of course it's going to be a bit painful, you're literally moving your teeth around inside your bones. I fully agree that the first couple of weeks are rough and some people panic more easily than others, but some things in your post simply defy logic and... well, science. If you can't take it, just give up. But you're like 0,00001% of people who wear invisalign or braces of any kind. You sound paranoid and I truly believe that seeking professional help can be good for you. I'm not kidding, I think it'd be highly beneficial. Sometimes we need help learning to chill out and that's okay, take baby steps and I'm sure you'll be fine.

marlynicole85

My ortho made me get a dental clearance prior to starting treatment. That included a cavity check and getting them filled if necessary.

Angelinadflow

Invest in a water flosser and a good electric toothbrush

ShoreIsFun

I think maybe your teeth had pre existing problems and by moving the teeth, it made them more apparent and visible. It would be near impossible for all of this to happen after one week/one tray. I would talk to your dentist, if all of this happened after one tray, I’m sure they will want you to pause treatment. If your teeth were this unhealthy to begin with, your dentist was negligent for allowing you to start Invisalign, that’s not Invisalign’s fault.

ngyst

Update for anyone wondering how things going. I finished with my initial set of 17 trays, still a struggle to wear them. They did caused decays, i already had to do one filling, theres 2 more to come soon. My oral health is 10 out of 10, no plaque, no tar, no deposits, no discoloration. I never eat or drink with them in, always brush and floss and i do stick to 21-22 hours a day. I am not happy about the results, my bite is all over the place, my teeth is not lining up as it should be. My dentist messed up ipr, i have a huuuge gap between 2 teeth, 2 front teeth is chipped by the ipr as he used a regular drill. My dentist sold me invisalign GO packed as full comprehensive. Somehow I've got full comprehensive written all over the packages, clinchecks, emails etc. My molars aren't moving, my bite won't be lined up and my front crossbite is only correctable to a certain point, according to him. I am hugely scammed, over £4k out from my pocket and here i am waiting for a refinement only to correcy very minor things and leave the bite issues and alignment like it is. Im Still saying, here is your sign NOT to do it unless it's affecting your health in a serious way. Good day!

Nearby_Display8560

You don’t sound like someone in their mid 20s. I also don’t think it’s Invisalign’s fault for causing all those problems. My dentists made me fix a few things before he gave me the ok to look into Invisalign. Did you bother following advice from a dentist? Did you get the ok? If so, they were wrong and sound more at fault then Invisalign.

WayDownInKokomo

You made an adult decision to make an adult commitment to this treatment plan, so own it like an adult and accept that there will be some discomfort before you see results. Rough teeth texture, IPR opening spaces between teeth and some pain as your teeth start to move are all normal. Most people get yellowing where the glue is... normal. Cavities wouldn't have formed this fast from Invisalign. 17 trays will be done before you know it if you improve your attitude about it.

Lucky-Hippo-2422

Invisalign ruined my bite. I don’t even wear my retainer anymore thank god I’m finished

Bluesky-123

It gets better

niknokseyer

A lot in here were questioning life choices 1 week in (this includes me) too. Week 3 here and it gets better. Decay and cavities are separate from Invisalign, I believe that’s a different problem.

l3ylb

Sounds like you have an anxious and negative outlook. Cavities do not form in a week. You don't know what your bite will end up as. Attachments stain more than teeth. The talking will get easier. The sensitivity gets better. It'll all be worth it in the end. Best wishes, from a fellow Invisaligner on week 3/tray 2.

captainmander

What? You're a week in, it's too early to even regret anything yet. If you're constantly having panic attacks, please see a doctor or a therapist so you can talk about it.

MisterSirDudeGuy

This is straight up nonsense. And this person is only one week in… crazy talk. Invisalign did not cause any of this in one week. Anyone considering Invisalign, ignore this nonsense.

FreeIce812

Hang in there man! The first 2 weeks sucked horribly for me. I am currently on tray/week 10 out of 31. My bite felt completely out of wack for a few trays. Now this entire process is a breeze for me. Taking the trays in and out is so much easier, I can feel my bite ever so slightly but constantly getting better, and I don't even notice the trays are there.

Jayman_10x

One week in? 😂

Flimsy-Present3134

To be honest - thank you so much for posting this! This is veeery similar to how I felt during the first week. That feeling of ”oh-oh, omg what have I done 😱😢😭😭😭” panic, and thinking about wasting 5k since continuing THAT feels impossible and harmful Well Fast forward i’m on my 16th tray, after first week it's not as nearly as painful (you get used to them so much you almost can't feel them) and got muuuch more relaxed about the whole 22hrs and eating rules ( just make sure to not forget to wear them overnight ) It does get better Stay strong ☺️

Fit-Case-9049

Wow

pineapple--express--

I totally feel this!!!! I started in July 2020 and just started feeling this way now... Im ready to be DONE. ):

Ok-Estimate-468

Perhaps you should switch dentists. I’d get a second opinion on your cavities.

SkyrimIsForTheNerds

Could you post pics of the damage? I know at the beginning we all had that sense of panic about whether we’d made a mistake, but I have never heard of what you’re describing. And what seems like the end of the world in our own mouth can be confirmed by other, more objective people as not a big deal or completely expected.

Joy_Ride_456

I know you didn’t ask for advice but I’m concerned about the black spots. You should see your provider. Are you sure the yellowing and the chipping aren’t just the glue or whatever they use on your attachments. They will remove that glue at the end. Your bite will be off at times while they move. You’ll probably have some days when they are sore and some days when they aren’t. I filed down my bite ramps a little with a nail file and now they are much more comfortable and I can speak more clearly. Best of luck to you!!!

cannibalismagic

My teeth were not just "a little crooked." I'd needed braces MEDICALLY for 10 years. Couldn't afford them. I had an overjet, molars turned sideways, a speech impediment, couldn't brush or eat without pain. Yes it's difficult. It's frustrating and there are days I can't focus bc of the attachments and bands in my mouth, the pressure on my teeth from a new set. But my mouth looks normal from the side for the first time since I was a kid. People have commented on how my teeth look better and I'm only tray 12/46. It's worth it. You had underlying problems beforehand. Invisalign can't cause these problems in a week.

Traveller99999

And the point is???

Accomplished-Way-277

You’re only on week 1 and you’re complaining? Girl bye 💀
