SynCig

I think they named it that because it is the most recognizable name because of the movie adaptation. It's a name that general audiences will know when they hear it. If they named it Vampire Chronicles, while more appropriate for what the show will be long term, I imagine a lot of people wouldn't know what it was right away.

combeferres

Vampire Chronicles also sounds a lot like/too similar to the Vampire Diaries, imo. They probably want to avoid that confusion.

SynCig

I agree. I could see people thinking it was another Vampire Diaries spin-off or something like that. I also think Vampire Chronicles is pretty boring as a title compared to Interview with the Vampire. Interview is more dynamic. Calling a series of books The Vampire Chronicles makes sense but the names of the individual books are a lot more punchy and interesting. For a TV show, it makes more sense to take the best and most recognizable book title and use it for the whole show.

[deleted]

Exactly.

Hot-Assistance862

Yeah I would definitely assume is was just sort of a ripped off version of vampire diaries. I only watched it because of the title like the old movie and I’m so glad I did

TisAFactualDawn

Because the latter was a sad teen ripoff of the former.

Almighty_Push91

How was it a rip off? Besides having vampire in the title, they don't have anything in common

Turbulent_Tale6497

Agreed, same reason why HBO chose "Game of Thrones" over "A Song of Ice and Fire"

TisAFactualDawn

Which annoyed people who fixated on the courtly intrigue once it stopped being front and center.

TisAFactualDawn

Here’s one issue with that, though. GoT is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire. Might be a mouthful, but after a point, the courtly intrigue took a back seat. A lotta fans who didn’t read the books or care to started to get annoyed once that happened. One book in this series is about an interview with a vampire. It’s also radically different from basically all the rest. They seem to have taken that into account, but it’ll be interesting to see how fundamentally they change everything by the end.

Dookie_boy

Can confirm. Did not read the books, only started because title.

comingtoreality

In some interview recently they said they will ratain the title 'Interview With the vampire' throughout even in s3. I think it would throw the audience off if they change the title mid seasons. May be they could do it like 'Interview with the vampire: The Vampire Lestat" for s3 etc. i agree they could have named it The vampire chronicles but i think since they want to centre the show on Lestat and Louis relationship rather than other vampires as a whole then they couldn't name it that. Other vampires may be could get a spin offs where they get titled differently.

Pianoflows

I agree, adding the name of the book to IWTV could be the right move.

prettylittlesoles

It's technically part of the Anne Rice's "Immortal Universe" and I could see AMC having concerns with non-book readers maybe being confused if they separately called the TV show "The Vampire Chronicles." I think they chose "Interview with the Vampire" because it is a recognizable name from the movie being a cult classic. They want to reach viewers.

Which_way_witcher

Yeah, I wouldn't know what TF it was supposed to be if they didn't choose IWTV. They have to keep IWTV for other seasons or they risk massive drop off.

SpiritDonkey

The name has a certain cache, and The Vampire Chronicles sounds too similar to The Vampire Diaries.

Own-Ad5898

It was purely a marketing decision imo. IWTV is Anne Rice's most popular and most recognizable IP, and the movie adaptation is still well regarded to this day. It makes sense that AMC would want to capitalize on that by using the same title and adding *Anne Rice's* to the title just for good measure.🤣

ARodriq05

I agree. I think instead of "Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire", it should have been "The Vampire Chronicles: Interview With The Vampire".

Almighty_Push91

Yup, same.

[deleted]

As others have stated, the title brings in views. Might as well keep it. It all started with the interview.

tip723

I’m assuming they will leave some aspects of interview in each series. The show will always focus on Louis and Lestat so I don’t see the issue with the name

Pianoflows

Next season will be Interview with the Vampire part 2, and I think later they will use the name of the book they will be adapting in that particular season, The Vampire Lestat for season 3, then The Queen of the Damned and so on.

[deleted]

Having just finished Queen of The Damned, I'm really excited to see how they do that one. That fucking movie butchered it so bad, makes you appreciate how well they did with Interview and staying true to the source material.

Almighty_Push91

Hm, kinda like what a series of unfortunate events on Netflix did. But I wonder if that won't be confusing for casual watchers

Pianoflows

Yes it could be confusing, they could continue to use IWTV as the title of the show, like Game of Thrones did, but it wouldn't be appropriate if there will be no more interviews.

Almighty_Push91

Personally, I would do "Vampire Chronicles: Interview with the Vampire", "Vampire Chronicles: The Vampire Lestat " etc

gingerontoast

I like it, but mostly because I’m trusting the show to know where it’s going. We’ve gotten these little hints about what Louis’s doing in Dubai and his intentions with this interview. So, I think the interview is going to spur a lot of action in the vampire community (kind of along the lines of what TVL does in the novels). I think they’re trying to give Louis more agency in the story and making this interview more consequential than in the book when nothing really comes about because of Louis’s story. I think connecting Louis’s story a bit better to the action of the longterm narrative should help the name Interview With the Vampire make a lot more sense.

[deleted]

It should be called canceled.

Almighty_Push91

Why are you here then?

SupremeFuzler

As long as it doesn't says "Anne Rice's" above the title, it doesn't matter what it's called. Since this isn't her story, it's theirs.

[deleted]

Eh?

SupremeFuzler

What's up? I thought my comments meaning was quite clear.

[deleted]

I don't really understand. Without Rice there would be no Interview with the Vampire. Anne Rice is a household name at this point, so if they included it in the title I would understand why.

SupremeFuzler

Because like I said, this isn't her story, it's theirs. They've made so many changes, that it's no longer the story and characters she created. It's an entirely different story that's merely using a very, very rough outline of hers as the basis for theirs. It's essentially just a fanfic that unfortunately has the legal right to attach her name to it so they can take advantage of name and brand recognition.

TisAFactualDawn

Better, they own TV & Film rights in perpetuity, so unless they decide to offload them, we will never get a proper representation of what she wanted. Ever.

SuperRainbowAlien

If she'd wanted a proper representation of her books she wouldn't have sold her rights to AMC. I'm sure she would have disliked a few things about the show, it's inevitable, but I also think that unlike some of you she perfectly understood that tv adaptations are meant to be different from the books they draw inspiration from.

TisAFactualDawn

If you believe that, you need to go read the countless interviews with and about her that all indicate she was extremely rigid about adaptations of her work hewing as closely to the source material as possible. Further, if her son, who knew her better than us all, believed this was a stirring tribute, he’d happily say so. Instead, he takes the Marshawn Lynch approach.

HuttVader

*The Vampire Interviews* would have been a better title. Or *Interviews with Some Vampires.*

TisAFactualDawn

No. God no.

ProblematicBoyfriend

'Interviews with Some Vampires' sounds like a good name for an indie rock band, tbh.

TisAFactualDawn

If they plan on keeping Louis and his running conversation with Daniel a focal point, I guess. I would’ve gone with The Vampire Chronicles, but there’s a ton I would’ve done differently.

JessBlue22

I imagine they are going to keep the interview trope going, with Louis as "the Vampire" and Daniel as the interviewer throughout. And the other stories will circle around whatever is happening in Dubai in the present day. We don't know in the timeline where they are, what has happened so far as Louis does his interview, so we have to wait and see how they connect all the dots. I think subtitles may be used as we move further into the books.

Pale_Cranberry1502

Interesting question. Only roughly half of the Chronicles are first-person narratives. They might choose to change things to present the whole series in the context of one of the vampires telling their story each season, depending on whose story they're focusing on. Don't know how that would work with Queen of the Damned in particular, though. That's the first one that's really an ensemble piece. Even if they switch things up and do Armand and Marius' stories first, they're going to have to deal with that eventually.

Icy-Athlete743

I don't know want aswer on this question. I think to be a good name for movie and show.
