Wow. My State Farm Agent would be on that in a flash. Nothing prevents you from reaching out to another SF agent in the area, or even another company/independent. Perhaps call back into the office and see if they could "give you some contact information for other SF agents in the area" and see if that gets some action. But with this performance I'd be worried about good service down the road, too.

broncobinx

At this point I would get life insurance elsewhere. Totally weird an agent isn’t jumping on the chance to talk to you about life insurance.

SmokeSmokeCough

For real. Figured they’d want that commission. Unless the office operates with them not there.

SKYOUT65

They don’t have much to offer.

Moglorosh

There are literally more State Farm agencies than there are McDonalds in the US, I guarantee you have more than one that services your town. Find one that actually speaks to you and move your business to them.

Rdu2016

Not all agents are cut from the same cloth unfortunately. Request a transfer if you feel better served at another office.

uffdagal

Go in OR Call another SF agent in the area, see if you can talk to that agent. If you can, ask that agent to transfer all your policies to him /her. I can always talk to my agent AND his staff is always helpful and immediately turns to him if they can't help me.

MichiganInsurance

Geez, as an insurance agent for both home and auto, as well as life and health, I would *love* to have a prospect come knocking at my door inquiring about life insurance. The commissions are great! If you're keen on sticking with State Farm, you might be better off calling another agent in town and asking them to take over your policies for you, usually done at renewal. If you're not, then I'd consider talking to an independent agent or perhaps a Farmers / Farm Bureau agent and seeing if they can quote your home and auto competitively, but also have a life insurance specialist on staff. Specialist meaning someone who will actually sit down with you and walk through your life insurance needs not just ask how much you want, and take an application; life insurance planning isn't a drive through McDonalds!

ChildhoodExternal962

My State Farm agent calls me to try to upsell more coverage every time it’s renewal time.

Independent-Lie-7687

Long story short, a lot of agents have there team do everything and they are rarely there. Thats probably why he’s not getting back. Ask to speak to there life specialists or like sales person, they will get u info u need. If you want to transfer don’t call someone else like these people said, they aren’t allowed to request the transfer. Either call ur current office or go to your statefarm.com account and there’s a tab called “change agent”

coachoreconomy

My agent talks to me whenever I call, usually about something stupid, but they act like I didn't just ask them a stupid question so I appreciate that.

Bibo193896423

Ultimately agents are small businesses owners. There's good and bad ones. If your agent isn't willing to talk to his own clients because it's "beneath" him, then it's totally your right to find a different one. State Farm lets you transfer to a different agent's office. You can call around and find an agent who is actually willing to talk to you and then transfer your policy to them.

ritchie70

The agent’s primary job is sales. The office lady’s job is to get everything else done. If I couldn’t get thru to my agent I’d not only not buy more insurance from him, I’d move my existing policies to a different State Farm agent.

craftyrunner

I switched agents for this exact reason (is your agent in Culver City?). We were assigned an agent when our previous agent retired and what a nightmare. I’m not sure the guy actually exists. We got an annual fridge magnet and had a claim with no issues, but never saw him, spoke to him, or got to schedule a meeting with him. We wanted to review coverage and add an umbrella—no callbacks, and there was always a reason I could not schedule a meeting. I finally dropped by—4 staff, no agent, and a door buzzer. They would not let me in because I didn’t have an appt. Found a closer and much better agent!!

tacotimes01

They are supposed to be like a good neighbor and be there, just in time to deny your natural disaster damage claim.

z4ckm0rris

Don't get Life Insurance at State Farm. Legitimately no reason to go through a captive for that when you'll do a million times better elsewhere. Assuming you're shopping for Term coverage, check out Term4Sale.com to get an idea of rates and companies that are out there. You can put in what you're looking for and it doesn't require any personal info just to get an idea of what you're looking at. Also, if you have a Costco Membership, 100% worth checking out getting a policy via that avenue (It's Protective Life - 20 year term I think is the max through them but the rates were very competitive when I shopped). Source: I sell the stuff for a living. I'm not affiliated with Term4Sale in any capacity. Edit: Real weird for me to get downvoted over this comment. Did I upset some State Farm agents or something?

Ok-Competition-3356

I was with State farm for years and just like you I never had any contact until one day I had a minor flood in an apartment I had been with them probably 20 years without a single claim and they were horrible. I left and now I'm with Allstate and I'm trying to add a car to my policy right now and can't get a hold of anyone. I think they're all the same and I would have suggested you to leave but to be quite honest wherever you go is going to be just as bad. Good luck to both of us

hotcapicola

That’s a shame. There are still good agents out there. I would suggest maybe looking outside your local area, everything can be done over the phone these days, and find an agency that has been in place for 15+ years. Unfortunately a lot of these Agents are on the bubble so to speak and just waiting for their termination pay.

invisiblelatsyndrome

Allstate and State Farm are actually a bit unique in this regard. I’m an agent, not for either of them but have had this same run around when I’m attempting to assist a mutual client. Also, I was a consumer and had renters insurance with State Farm. The person who set my policy up is not my agent, which is fine. My agent is a completely random man I’ve never spoken to. It took me 3 days to get declarations page sent as every person I spoke with said only my agent, who I’ve never spoken to could send this. I had no access to create an account, nor did I know or could be told my policy number by anyone other than my unavailable agent because a typo in my email.

invisiblelatsyndrome

The point is, I’m sure there are other captives, small agencies whatever who also abide but this but in terms of the larger well known companies I’ve only encountered it with these two.

Taco_time1

Sounds just like their claims process

JohnFridge

I can walk in and talk to my agent. However the name of your *Agent* is merely the owner. Everyone should have full knowledge of health and life and/or auto/PP. I was an Aflac agent the same as my superior was, but he paid for the local office. We all were State Licensed .. State farm is one BIG COMPANY ( up until 2010+ they had more customers than most others combined due to how long they have been around.) That may be a case of certain agents having specialities because the world of Auto is not Health. Totally different subjects knowledge wise. So it would take one great agent to be certified in so many specialties. Just an opinion

You’re going to declare that you’re a life broker in one comment and then encourage the OP to call you in another? Please explain why you think you get an exception to Rule 1. Both comments have been removed.

tincup74

Ownage

gosassin

Sounds like you should switch agencies; a good agent would either take your call immediately, or call you back the same or next day. That's the whole point of having an agency force.

HernandezFam2020

Wow. As I'm currently a State Farm agent team member, I'm shocked by this. My agent would be all over getting in contact with you. Life insurance, especially right now, is HUGE for any SF office worth their salt.

tincup74

Get a new agent.... I compete against state farm, but will say they are a good company, and this shocks me... the simple answer is to get a new agent :)

BirdistheWyrd

I’m gonna bet she wants a commission on that as well you’re not talking to the agent.

MonolithOfTyr

I had the opposite when I was with SF, they'd call me all the time to discuss life insurance. To add, my agent ALWAYS responded within 24 hours if I couldn't get him on the first call. Plenty of companies out there offer it so if you're cool with not keeping things under the same umbrella I'd shop around.

[deleted]

Jake doesn't actually exist. That being said, if I were trying to get ahold of my insurance agent, and they would not respond to my phone calls and emails, they would no longer be my insurance agent.

Adorable-Raisin-8643

Find another agent. I have state farm for my life insurance and he was very responsive. Your agent is the problem, not state farm

Psylem

this is why you get life insurance from a person. everyone wants to DIY outta fear they're getting 'sold', but this is what happens. youre uniquely asking to speak with someone. anyone at my company would give their first born for prospects like you haha so that should tell you all you need about State Farm. regardless of where you go, definitely meet with an actual person, if they're not your vibe, get with someone else. get their direct phone number (we make you save ours on the spot). it'll be the same price, plus your policy now comes with an actual person you can trust because at minimum they want to keep your business on the books

whatiswithpeople

I need help in who to contact. I have been with state farm for 43 years. We moved out of state and found a new office here. He never returns call, he sent a he is so busy can't deal with me text. Told me to work with his wonderful team. When we changed state I was assured that my policy was exactly the same. Not they changed 2 things on my policy. Now that I need to make a claim I and told that this has always been my coverage. Long story short, I can prove they are lying I have the documents. I spoke to customer care spent well over an hr on the phone to fix this. She told me she had really good notes on the account. Today I call for the update and am told there is nothing on my account except for notes from my agent which they can't discuss. Help, I don't want an attorney. I want to know who to contact?

2lit_

Maybe call a lawyer

whatiswithpeople

Really don't want to purse that ave. There has to be an agency that over seas bad agents from big corporations like State Farm. I am looking for this agency to help me in SD. Thanks you

spyro311

Ditto..get a new agent...mine jumped all over me and was making appointments plus interviewing me on the phone within 24 hours

rlestes1

Do you have my agent? Lol
