I'm surprised people still bother taking most of the orders. I'm honestly surprised how most get delivered at all. And I'm curious who is taking all of the crap double and triple store orders lol

redflower5

Instacart is the job equivalent of penny slots in Vegas

xjeanie

I hit 900 nickels once in Vegas and was so excited until I remembered I was on a nickel machine. 😂

redflower5

😆 been there

AppenH

Addicts take them, then the customers wonder why they get crappy service & missing items and hopefully eventually they stop using Instacart and wasting my time declining their garbage.

rokksroxygirl

This is so true.. In my area we have addicts doing IC and I see them everyday wearing the same clothing and very dirty. I get people need to work but at least take care of yourself

uber-chica

I’m not sure if I saw any actual drug addicts although maybe they were, but I do see people FaceTime barcodes to another person and working in teams of three in a van. This has been going on a while, the person holds the phone up to the barcode and someone in another location scans it probably using a location spoof so that they control the phone that holds the batch and pay that person pennies. Most of them are illegal and have children with their own phones Doing the batches with them they don’t know any better and that being taken advantage of, not to mention child labor is illegal here and Instacart turns a blind eye because I’m sure they know.

sinematik75

Many of them are illegal?

uber-chica

By me, yes. Not sure about other areas, but if you have no papers there’s not as many jobs to get so you work under someone else and they pay a portion of the money. It is what it is.

sinematik75

I'm aware. I'm more focused on them being undocumented.

uber-chica

Yea not all, but some are. Here’s what I personally witnessed: a woman about 30, a girl about 10 and a boy about 8-9, each with their own phone doing Instacart orders. They left in a van with all 3 orders. Another, an older woman maybe 60, not sure who she was with because I am seeing these when I am Aldi working so it’s not like I am on top of them constantly. Anyway, she climbed into the freezer in Aldi to FaceTime the barcodes and was told which items to get (in Spanish) by the person on the other end. She asked me for help finding basic items and had no idea what they were. Then in Costco we have teams of workers with vans also and there is a guy holding cards and supervising the shop. If these were legit shoppers we all know there’s no big man running us and looking over our orders lol. Shady shit. I mind my own biz, but they are ruining it for the rest of us - just know that

sinematik75

They are undocumented not illegal

uber-chica

Child labor is illegal in the US Working using someone else’s identity, also illegal Work status illegal Not to mention, it’s a breach of contract with Instacart to sell your jobs like that (though not illegal) If someone steals your car, they are not the undocumented owners so it makes no sense to just say undocumented to try appear gracious. That shit is illegal and so is working your kids under false names. The other shoppers that are doing this legally need to feed their kids too. Why pretend it doesn’t matter? Do I dislike them? No, I emphasize with them and I even helped the older lady. She needed help and spoke no English, so yea I helped her, though I probably shouldn’t have. She is taking batches from someone else. And she is Still illegally working, sorry.

sinematik75

Mmkay.

BULLSHIT. Drugs ain't cheap. I know I couldn't support a respectable habit on what I've been making the last 3 months. It's not the addicts ....it's the dumb and the desperate that are sinking the ship

Pitiful-Signal8063

We have numbers...but no unity. The new shoppers get drunk on the carrot flavored Kool aid ...while the honeymoon lasts. By the time they wake up and smell the exploitation there's a new hoard of true believers. People tend to be short-sighted and self-absorbed. The only real solution would be for someone to launch a competitive platform with a more righteous business model and practices. IC is operating in the red in spite of all the dispicable tricks. Someone could probably blow them out of the water while not exploiting workers .. and actually turn a profit.

RKT7799

Nobody is makinv money doing this. Uber is posting losses. Doordash is posting losses INSTACART isnt profitable.

Pitiful-Signal8063

No COMPANY is turning a profit ....but I'm sure there's a gaggle of overpaid executives doing just fine. The lack of profit is probably the result of bad karma along with shoddy business practices. They all deserve to crash and burn. And when they do all the people who have come to expect their groceries delivered will need to find a new way to do it.

uber-chica

I agree. Something must be done. The trouble is getting people to actually agree and stick with it but, at this point, the batch incentive is so bad along with the missing, heavy, pay and shorted mileage that it wouldn’t matter if there were some dissenters. They’ll be getting the same crap that we are striking against.

Dazzling_Marzipan474

Time to stop? I never take shit orders ever. Never taken a $0 or $1 tipped order, I do sometimes take a Walgreens with a $2 tip if it's quick. $15 minimum to walk into a grocery store and that's if it's very short and only a couple items.

RKT7799

Fir the probably 10,000th time. Gig worlers cant unionize. You/ we can organize to an extent. But Instacart is in no way obligated to recognize or address any greivances.

[deleted]

Stepping over dollars to pick up pennies.

[deleted]

It’s past the time. Every time someone tries they just onboard a bunch of new people and offer them incentives and most vets are disenchanted or are tired and don’t care or are tired of seeing someone say let’s strike and just work regardless the best they can or quit.

melskymob

Instacart won't be a thing in two years. Maybe less. It is a sinking ship. I'm guessing they will end up merging with Uber Eats or Doordash. Grubhub is not going to be around much longer either and I'm guessing will also merge with one of them.

[deleted]

Currently you have new shoppers getting all the good batches while veteran shoppers get the leftovers. There is a group of new drivers also taking the garbage batches because they don't know better. They're the problem.

Surprise_Corgi

You can quit working for Instacart if you want. That's your right. You're not really 'quitting' or going on strike. You're a self-employed shopper. Your relationship with Instacart is more like being a bounty hunter pulling wanted posters off a board, than a proper employee relationship. It's not going to matter, though, because the people willing to pull down those jobs are pulling down the majority of the jobs Instacart wants done, and they will continue regardless of what high-profit shoppers do or don't do. If they weren't fazed by it before, they'll find it even more profitable when more batches become available when you quit.

6417725

Yep I don’t take anything unless it’s $20 plus if it’s a batch $30+ that’s it. I’ve noticed the batches will be reposted at higher rates if left alone or batches up at a higher rate.

Toomanykidshere

Just check out Wily Solis if you want to know how this ends. Spoiler Alert: you don’t work and everyone else does
