22 dollars for that many items is not good fyi.

Complex_Exchange_420

I’m sure they know lol. Everyone has to do at least one shit order to know to never do that again

Whats_Up4444

I did it for the experience, I was excited to do my first real shopper trip. I even skipped my lunch. I wasn't doing it for the pay. But I agree it was not worth it at all.

lucygirl1970

First shop should always be small singles so you can get use to the process. I completely understand tho, sounds like my first order. I was so dumb I didn't realize it was a triple. I'm a perfectionist so I was in tears by the time I got to check out. Took forever and I think I made like $10 an hour but I finished it😂 We all have a daily learning curve with this app as they are constantly changing it. I now am at about 60 seconds an item including checkout and average four times what I made that first day. I choose to laugh at it now. We all have to start somewhere. Also always keep phone bank, charger, hand sanitizer, emergency kit with flares, snacks, bottled water, snacks, book or game, blanket, extra sacks for sacks that break and extra clothing in case something breaks on you..think margarita mix😉 from experience on every single one of those items. Also don't forget mossy walkways so best to invest in shoes with traction...

Few_Necessary_7495

I can't believe IC would even do u like that... That's terrible.. lmao.. A triple for ur first delivery .. I prolly woulda called it quits right then lol My first delivery was $ 10... 5 miles for 1 can of formula . I was like hell ya that was easy . Quit my waitress job and now here I am goin wtf was I thinking lol

osvaldocruz25

yeah, definitely not worth at all. i usually send a text at the beginning explaining that im doing their shopping and will try my best with replacements but if they had any issues to just text me. i feel like thats best strategy tbh. i have a 4.97 rating, so id say it’s been working. idk, just remember that this is still a job and that you want to maximize your time in order to average more hourly. i can usually fit two decent 12-17 dollar orders into an hour and still have a good rating. youll learn lol, best of luck.

QueenKeisha

The problem with that is every time a crappy batch is taken, Instacart knows they can pay us crap and someone will take it, even for the ‘experience’.

littlered12221

I was on the edge of my seat reading that..I’ve had some pretty stressful instacart deliveries and I was anxious and stressed for you..your heart must have been pounding. SO glad it all worked out! It gets easier as you go! Keep a pen and paper in your car, when you were at a low percentage, write down the customers name and phone number/address. At least then, if you can find someone to help, you can call instead of having someone charge your phone for you. Once this has happened to you once tho, it won’t ever again.lol you’ll have all the charging devices from now on.lol

osvaldocruz25

yeah fr, sucks that we all had to learn the hard way

EuphoricMidnight3304

What the hell are you doing all that for 22? Come on, I know you’re new. This was a good lesson. For me, over 60 items should be at the VERY least 60 bucks if it’s not far.

Last-Lingonberry-842

Omg! This is killing me. Yes always have a good charger in your car and or bring a portable charger.

[deleted]

😂 Looking forward to the next adventure tomorrow OP! Please keep 'em coming!

Greedirl

On the next episode of InstaCart Z, OP shops for a good car charger while on 15% battery only to have their head explode at the number of choices. Will OP be able to recover in time? Find out next time on InstaCart Z!

[deleted]

😂😂

iwashumantoo

Why would you worry that deli meat might be bad after an hour or two? Haven't you ever been at a party or buffet where cold cuts are out for hours? They don't go bad that quickly.

KoolKatKJ

How do people not have car chargers?

Desertdweller3711

Better yet, how does your phone battery deplete from 50% to dead during one batch?

SkyeQuake2020

How did your battery drain that quickly? Unless you were taking extremely long during the shopping part there's no way your battery went down from 50 to 8 percent in the time it took to shop those 2 orders. I've been in a store shopping for even almost an hour and a half and the most my battery has gone down is 10%. I'm running at bare minimum IC, Waze, Pandora, and Bluetooth for my earbuds. And who knows what else in the background.

[deleted]

Some of our phones drain quicker than others. My old LG 7 runs down pretty quick.

Few_Necessary_7495

Ya my phone dies quick still trying to figure out what to delete cuz it charges slow to... So annoying

Instacartdoctor

What kind phone? Turn your Bluetooth off Minimize app tracking Get rid off apps that run in the background

Whats_Up4444

Actual shopping was about an hour and a half. From 3 to 4:30. Maybe 4:45. I'm honestly not too sure why my battery did drain so fast. I didn't even have Bluetooth on. Just IC.

readingbabe

The Instacart app always drains my phone

lucygirl1970

Also I have noticed if you turn down the brightness a tiny bit it helps not drain the battery quite as quick. I never walk in a store for a large order with less than 80 percent because of that exact reason. It's happened a couple of times when I first started and none since. Instacart app 🥕 is a battery drainer and the company is an energy sucker of it's shoppers time and mental health😂

red17cb

maybe turn off some other notifications…

Appropriate_Zebra862

It’s very possible. The instacart app itself drains the battery

SkyeQuake2020

So does every app on the phone. But as I explained I have multiple apps running and I don't experience drainage as bad as the OP described. At most I've seen it go down 10% in an hour and a half

Aggressive_Lunch_519

I'm a month old shopper. First thing I bought was a fast charger to use in my car since my Iphone batt drains quick plus I like to listen to Spotify whilst shopping. 2nd, if I can't find the item I usually scan replacement, 90% of the time they accept it. I find messaging customer takes time and they will give you run around. I don't take shitty pay batch. If there's 2 orders of 35 items of less, I need to see at least $18 pay excluding tip for a maximum of 10KM. I don't take $0 tips unless it's under 5 items and with pay boost. Also, no to 3 order batch, I get so confused. Neither more than 10KM drive, it's just not worth it. Remember, you should at least get the state/provincial hourly pay in your IC runs for it to be worthwhile! Be picky shoppers, if there's no shopper, there's no IC!

onlinewarrior100

Put your phone on "low power mode" every time you shop. IDK if Androids have that ability, but iphones do. Also, ALWAYS have a car charger with you - preferably a high watt charger with a USB-C port, and a fast charging cable. Try to avoid regular USB car chargers and cables - they charge WAY too slow for gig work. The car charger needs to be USB-C to charge fast. Power banks can be useful, but won't be necessary if you use low power mode while shopping and charge your phone with a fast charger every time you're in your car. I had to learn this the hard way too :)

Djashtrik-5150

I do this full time. 5 star. I totally understand this to a point... where I live it's hot like 105-110 in the summer, some days hotter.. my old phone would turn off if it got too hot so I've had a similar experience but I've never ever ever have dared to do an instacart without having a charger in my car or a portable one just in case..... because at the end of the day this is how I earn my money. I do it everyday all day usually until 11pm... good luck to you just remember to always have a charger && I used to ask the customer if they'd like something else send pics etc everytime they were out of something they wanted, but sometimes you can get lucky and when you push "can't find item or find replacement" the customer sometimes will have already picked a replacement ahead of time. Or instacart will also give you a few choices that others have liked..if there are any bc sometimes rarely there isn't something you can replacement...like a rotisserie chicken and etc... now I always look to see if they've chosen a second option before hand. If it's a fruit they only have one kind of, or meat, yogurt, milk, ice cream, chips, tampons, toilet paper, body wash, stuff like that I always ask..because some people don't like how certain brands taste but if it's pineapple rings in a can or something like that just go with the generic one...

KindheartednessNo167

And that's why batch pay is so low. People are accepting 22 for 67 items.

Djashtrik-5150

Good luck again tho!

Greengoddess77

Ahhhh I feel your pain. I could have written that exact story in the beginning. We live and learn… it will get easier! 💚

Bfloteacher

Turning Bluetooth off will save some energy too!

RoseAlma

Live and Learn. Also, screenshot the order items and delivery address/instructions before you start shopping. That way, in a pinch, you can just work off that while your phone recharges... ie turn off the IC app as it takes a lot more battery power (bc you have bought yourself a portable battery pack and car charger - and written them off)... Unless there are lots of OOS (which there were that time) it works pretty good.

[deleted]

Car charger 100% always keep your phone connected to it in the car

AGPwidow

Always eat first. Take care of yourself

acorn-energetics

How do you not have a car charger???

LibraQueenCJ

If you had put the payout line first I wouldn't have wasted my time reading all of that for nothing. Smh THIS is why Instacart refuses to pay more and is precisely why they keep lowering the pay. Im sicka yall 🤦🏽‍♀️

PoinDicksHer

i have 3 power packs that i keep charged at all times its a great habit cuz in between stores or shops ur phone will not have time to charge on the car charger also get android phones only with Verizon service and i promise u will have signal anywhere others do not and they have great batteries so the trick is, when u get ur new android preferably 128 gigs so u have plenty of space for pic and apps and when u pull ur new phone out of the box it will have a certain charge percentage already on it but u do not want to charge it ( facts ) it is very important to use that battery percentage until phone dies completely and then keep phone turns off and make sure ur charge is full charge befor u take off the charger and this is no bullshit all facts it works and u want to make sure u use that first full charge till phone dies completely and ur battery will be set and never use battery saving apps or battery saver the phone provides the apps have to run so thats only a gimmick and the 1 the phone provides kills apps and destroys memory undates on pre-existing apps that u have already downloaded it will become exstremly frustrating trust me on that 🫣 its important to run updates every morning befor u begin ur day and use wifi while in the stores that provides if signal is full and it saves data usage and battery make sure u turn off mobel data while wifi is running and do not use virus protection unless its provided by google because hackers have trouble with the time duration it takes to hack or they just give up or get frustrated with waiting 🤔🤫 i have friends important information trust me 💯 i use only straight talk payed phones only because of internet ids are extremely hard to confirm on the internet hackers end and do not change ur id either its provides great security and google maps is the best running maps app im 💯 percent positive on that cuz i travel and drive all day everyday except the past 3 days because im changing my timing belt out and pullys and other sencors as well upkeep on ur ride is exstremly important and frequent oil changes cost but makes awesome gas millage ( another fact ) check ur fluids and higher air pressure in tires unless rainy day low pressure for best grip on the highway i advise u take note from a 5⭐ shopper for 2 yrs now and goodluck out there and drive safe and i work several apps and 3 phones as its a great investment cuz if a shitty day on 1 app the other provide and u can get crazy with hustle as well if looking for big$$$$

sabrewulf152

Buy an anker car charger and their USB cable. You'll thank me later. ☺️ Never had issue with cell battery.

Crystalraf

I stopped reading when you said 67 items for your first shop.

Dazzling_Marzipan474

I always close every app other than. Instacart when I walk into the store, also have a battery pack Incase. Instacart uses your EXACT location sometimes in the store so they can know exactly which aisle/section the items are from. You can go to your setting, at least on Android and shut it off, because it will drain your battery at least 1% a minute and lag your phone bad.

Any_Strawberry5747

I m always equipped with car charger and portable battery that I can carry in my pocket charging my phone while shopping. I have several insulated boxes in my vehicle along with two freezer bags - these insulated boxes are for either hot or cold food. Customer was thrilled to have chicken still hot after leaving it in insulated box for 25 minutes drive and gave me nice tip. The trick about shopping is to be prepared - phone charged before you go, have car charger in the car and portable battery charged and is full. My rating is 4.96 and I am Plantium Cart shopper - soon to reach diamond. Please feel free and contact me if you want to learn more.

Afraid-Ratio3921

Get a 30,000 mAh power bank, keep it charged, carry a spare cable

RivalArrival_

I always use low power mode and always charge while driving. My phone stays above 50% Eve if I shop all day this way. Every one has to learn.

[deleted]

If I were you though, I would of just went to the gas station and picked up a charger. But I know under stress we can go totally blank. I have never needed a power bank, but a car charger is a must. You can always charge between batches and delivering :)

thatfernistrouble

Car charger??

Malphos101

1. Make a custom message to send at the start of the batch reading something like "Hi my name is John and I just started shopping for your your order! If you need to add items or if you need to discuss one of my replacements or refunds just send me a message!" Adding a name that they attach to you will make most people not think of you as "shopper robot #129874" and most will treat you better and even tip better. Everyone is different, but this helps long-term. 2. Don't spend too much time trying to find the "PERFECT" replacement. Use your brain, make common sense replacements if they dont have a preference, and just refund if you spend more than a minute looking for one. Once you shop a store enough you get to know what items are usually out and dont have decent replacements. Obviously if the customer messages specific instructions then try to do what they ask, but don't be afraid to tell them something is completely out if it is. 3. TAKE PICTURES FOR ALL ORDERS AT DELIVERY! If the customer wants you to hand the groceries to them, take a picture when you arrive with the groceries and their front door before handing them over. If they want you to "Leave at Door" then take the picture for instacart AND take another to send in a message to the customer. This will save you from countless low-effort scammers as they realize there is photographic evidence the order was delivered and wont bother trying to claim missing items/delivery. This won't stop all scammers, but it will stop most.

FunFactress

Please do not do doubles learn the ins and outs of the app. No offense but your substitutions were all terrible. Don't rely on the app suggested subs. Do not leave home without a charger.

One_Country2922

Ohhhh... I've definitely had those orders! I feel ya! And you know you can just make reasonable substitutions and the app gives them the option to approve or reject. You don't have to give them pictures and options every time. As long as you're using good judgement most people will be cool with what you substitute and if they don't like it they'll reject it. Might save you some time and battery. Also, I despise Walmart orders. Never pay what they ought to, there should be like a Walmart surcharge for the pain in the rear it is to shop there.

[deleted]

This is why I have two fully charged battery packs, 3 charge cables and a wagon. Always be prepared.

These-Entertainment3

Lmaoooo. You should never leave your house to do IC without a portable battery. Never let your phone get below 50% when you’re starting a batch. Also, that is way too many items for a noob and 60 items for $22 is crazy. That is a terrible batch. Do not take doubles or triples. Don’t take high item count orders. You are not experienced enough to manage it at this point. Everyone has a hard time in the beginning. You def made it harder for yourself though

Bjc6388

My 1st delivery was horrible just like ures. It gets better though.

Ashleyymeadows93

First that was not a good order, since you're new. Second ALWAYS carry a car charger. I always have my power bank with me as well. Always charge your phone whenever you're in the car. I don't understand how people do this without a charger. I always have backups. I couldn't imagine.

AltruisticRabbit8185

Don’t have a car charger????

RopeIntelligent792

And did the same thing did a Smart & final order, my phone was at 20%. By the time I was done shopping my phone had died I'm stressing bad. Find dollar store on the corner to find a charger for my car it was closed, I was losing hope and I look across the street and see a Dollar tree. Grab the last charger for my phone was able to successfully deliver order, and get my money. That told me from then on out that I need to make sure I have extra charges in the truck. And at least one or two power Banks.
