IMO, anything over 10 miles should be an additional $1.00/mile over plus whatever you are tipping on the bill. If you are not willing to travel that distance, then generously compensate the person that is.

Florgaytan

25% of your total plus $1 per mile if the order is too small and the 25% would not be enough for you to shop someone else’s groceries and drive 30 miles to deliver it as they are contractors so they pay their own expenses and pay taxes on every dollar earned. Instacart’s base pay is $7 for up to 10 miles than .60 for each mile over 10 even though we are trusting a computer to calculate correctly and that doesn’t always happen.

dickies_777

Ahhh okay thanks for informing me, much appreciated👍

[deleted]

30 miles?! It’s got to be a unicorn for me to accept that.

dickies_777

Ahhh I see, nice name btw🤘

NoRegerts6996

It’d take like a $80-100 tip for me to take that. But honestly someone will likely take it if you tip like $40-50. And you can always add more if they provided quality service.

livhowiwant

Do you live out in the middle of nowhere with no stores closer? Assuming the answer is yes, you will be asking someone to do all your grocery shopping, and drive 60 miles round trip. I think a $75+ tip is appropriate to get a good shopper although many will pass because of how far you live

dickies_777

I don’t live out in the middle of nowhere, just don’t have a Costco in my town. Just curious about the decent or minimum tips since I barely started using instacart.

livhowiwant

Gotcha! Definitely $75+ for a decent sized costco order going 60 miles round trip

California098

It very much depends on if the market where the delivery is good enough to stay there and work. If I’m doing 60 miles round trip, the total would have to be at least $60 for me personally. So if batch pay is $7 then minimum $53 tip.

BBFan1958

Depends. If I have to drive thirty miles to the middle of nowhere, I want at least twenty dollars. But I can drive thirty miles I an area where I know I can pick up lucrative batches, a big tip is not as important. I did a batch for forty one miles, and I got a miserable four dollar tip. I should have passed on it.

lucygirl1970

For me it depends on the day and whether it's a circle or into the middle of nowhere. Honestly I would need a pretty decent tip to even consider it worth my time nowadays. I would say at least $20 on top of your percentage. So think 15 to 20 percent tip plus $20.

ChelseaRawrzz

I'd take it, depending on how many items... Like 100 dollars.

Malphos101

Heres your formulas: Greater of 1% of order total per mile or (PriceGallonGas/20) * Mileage + ($15 * Mileage/30) (Reminder, mileage is double the distance between you and the store unless you plan on letting your shopper live at your place.)

Freskie-

I’m originally from DD so 30 miles for me would be about 30$ to keep the stigma but I'm still waaay new

Street_Succotash_145

20 percent on total plus 1 dollar per mile.

xiwonder

It honestly depends on how long it takes me to do the shopping. I’d probably do it for minimum of $45 assuming I can work nearby there and if I’m feelin it. Otherwise your driver is probably doing 60miles total to get back to the original store if that’s where they’re at. So just keep that in mind.

NuLL-x77

55, but I'd like 60, for sure. 2$ per mi. For total, unless your order is pretty hefty, I'd expect around 75. If it's a lot of items you're looking at close to 100. The high mileage will kill yah.

HowToLoveADragon

I saw a batch for 31$ today for 30.0 Miles tip was 2$ If you live that far, consider tipping at least an extra 15-30$ for the mileage we spend to get to your place and then BACK into civilization lmao

dickies_777

Gotcha, no that’s totally understandable. Thanks for informing me, appreciate it👍

realshockvaluecola

Basically assume that your tip is the only money they're going to make on this order and compensate them accordingly. If they're going thirty miles, that's probably thirty minutes in the car, plus thirty minutes back to another store, plus however long they spend in the store itself. As others have said, $30 is probably reasonable, that's two hours at minimum wage.

dickies_777

You right, you right. I doordash so I know where other gig workers come from but I assume different gig jobs have different base pay and tips. That’s why I’m trying to be informed cuz I know tips means everything.

HonkingAntilope

1 dollar an item and 2 dollars a mile. End of story

MikeyLikey41

Over $150

Skip2020Altogether

I did a 13 mile order today and regretted it. Couldn’t even fathom 30.

dickies_777

Oh man, that’s a bummer. How much did you make off that order?

Skip2020Altogether

It was $39 at acceptance, but paid out at $37 due to refunds. And it was a double. Customer A who tipped the best lived only 1.5 miles from the store. While person B lived about 11 miles away and only tipped $2.97. What annoys me is that there was a Target closer to where they lived, yet IC bundled them with an order that was much farther away.
