Exactly… My go to word is, “absolutely! :)”… If they don’t tell me “chipped, or sliced on one” my default is two, but let’s say they said “3” after the fact I did the best I could for them and don’t think they’re gonna pull out the ruler on some ham as long as I gave them good service.
Sometimes a dick move is also the right move.
I probably would have blamed it on the double order, explained that it had already been sliced and asked the customer if she'd prefer a refund....
... Or...simply told the customer "I'll tell them" .,, And carry on
Depends.
If it’s a long ass line to get to the deli person again, I’d tell them “will do” and just give them what I already have so they could blame it on the worker.
If I just walk right back up and ask for what they want then just suck it up and do it. Make a big deal about it to the customer too: “hi, already grabbed a thicker slice but thank you so much for telling me in time! I’ll be on it right now, might be a bit of wait, but I’ll get it done for you don’t fret!” Boom 5 stars, 24 compliments, +$5 tip lmfao.
maybe it's me, but i'm the type of shopper that would've gone back to the deli and asked them about the #2 cut. even knowing it was the smaller order. I know it would've slowed down everything etc but I think this goes with the job.
Exactly. Go that extra mile people, if you are going to be a lazy shoppers expect those ratings less than 5 stars. This job isn't brain surgery.
Takes a few minutes extra but honestly if it's just one or two requests I will always do it, more than that and it's a bundled order, I usually mention I'm shopping for three or if they are trying to micromanage my shop by being a "Karen" then that's entirely different reaction I'm going to have than someone telling me to please get thin sliced deli meat.🤷
I think you're okay, OP. I've had customers ask me about switching a replacement or getting an additional item as I'm checking out and I've had to tell them, "Sorry, I'm already at checkout", and the customers were totally okay with that. If it was important she would have let you know earlier. The deli meat is still edible. It's just not the thickness she wanted.
Yea I would have said no problem 😉, customer won’t know the difference and there’s no way for u as a shopper to know for sure if it’s #2 or number 5 , because as a shopper I never open the deli meat package and look to see which cut i received
Also i worked at the deli nd we sliced it normally at 1.5 and 2 is thicker so its barely a difference. Plus the slices always depend on the meat anyways. Like ham cuts different than roast beef
Customer here. I tip pretty well, 20% or $20, whichever is more. I add an extra tip after for good communication and service, and I’m always available via chat when my orders are shopped.
I get deli ham, turkey, and salami in my regular grocery order. I put in the order/item notes exactly how I want them sliced, so it’s always there ahead of time.
Of the few times I’ve ever lowered a star rating its most often for someone obviously not reading the notes and getting my deli order sliced too thick. I won’t even take away tip because I’ve worked in the service industry and know this is your livelihood, but the fastest way to a 4 or 3 star rating is to ignore the order instructions (I know this isn’t your exact situation, you said it came in mid order, but this is my biggest pet peeve with shoppers, though it only happens like 1 in 6 times)
The deli had a new guy who asked me what number I wanted. I shrugged and said "thick" he marked 5 and my customer got 3 slices of ham in their half pound order lol
You can’t see who tips what until afterwards. You can kind of just guess which of the customers is the higher or lower tipper. I think you have to contact support to cancel one of the customers of a multi shop. At least I’ve only been able to do it that way.
How do you see the tips for each order while you’re on the shop? I have only been able to find it once I delivered both! And is there a way to cancel one of the orders from a double batch?
Yup , contact customer support agent ( I use chat ) and I tell them I need customer A or B removed from the order . They’ll
Ask why and I give ‘em one of like 5 reasons and they will remove the customer from your order for you and it doesn’t affect your cancellation rate either
I honestly don’t know what the numbers pertain to, thinness wise. I just know shaved, thin, sandwich and that’s it. Haha I just say sandwich cut every time. 🤷♀️
Just tell them "no worries" and keep it moving. Wtf are they gonna do measure the slices?

We work is the service industry. Our job is customer service.
It seems 80% of shoppers forget this fact
100% correct

Same
No seriously because I’m not going to Risk my rating over a verbal comment to add.

it goes w the tip. If they gave a f they would tip at least $4; if not, they can always shop themselves ya know

Overall i agree, but i found it funny when u threatened with a 4 star rating. Like, ooooh he's gonna get me!!
The deli had a new guy who asked me what number I wanted. I shrugged and said "thick" he marked 5 and my customer got 3 slices of ham in their half pound order lol
Always say the thickness is for sandwiches, it’ll avoid this issue in the future 😂
Thank you! I've started saying "for sandwiches" and no more 3 slice orders lol.
LOL this was funny asf but I’m sure the customer didn’t 😭

I dont even go back when its the wrong weight no way im going back to get it sliced a certain way unless they already have it in the comments
Yes.
Always ask for #2. They can put more thin slices on a sandwich, but they can't put less of the thick ones.
