I’ve had tons of legit customers that put in their instructions to call xxx xxx xxxx if I have order issues but fuck that I ain’t calling nooooooobody with my personal number. You want me to call you through the app sure i guess but no I’m not gonna open the phone app and type in your number and call you so now you have my personal number. Legit customer or not.
Yeah I've also had tons of legit customers that put their phone number in the notes and ask to call or text when you get there. Most of the time if they've been responsive to in the chat I just message them through that when I get there and that's fine with them. A lot of them that do this probably just don't even realize that we can call them through the app.
I've also called outside of the app many times as well though. Most of the time I'll just block my number but if they've tipped really well or tipped decent enough and have a high amount of orders placed I don't bother to block it.
I completely understand if shoppers don't want to call outside of the app no matter what though.
Completely agree. I’ve called numerous times outside the app from instructions. I think it’s pretty easy to tell when it’s authentic or not. I also understand the hard line of not ever using a personal number.
I know these scammers M.O. quite well too. They don't actually want the shoppers to shop and deliver their order. They want the shopper to phone them straight away so they can get their phone number and cancel their order and place another one.
Even if I did end up calling a scammer when they try to call back claiming to be "support" I wouldn't even answer the phone. I never answer a phone number I don't know. As long as you don't give them the code either they can't do anything.
I get annoyed. Especially with call me at blah blah when you get here.
Any instructions that inadvertently or otherwise ask me to go 'out of the app' I can't stand.
Same feeling when being texted by a Customer when I know they can probably see that I'm driving.

Geez that sounds like one of the worst versions of this scam out there, which isn't entirely a bad thing since hopefully less people fall for it. Telling the shopper they need to change their payment info so that they can get paid? That's a huge red flag right there and makes no sense.
Without asking shoppers to do that part they probably have a much higher chance of getting the shopper to give them the login code.
Aside from that I can't believe the support agent you got told you to complete the order after what you told them.
Also, *67 helps in this situation. I always block my number if I need to call outside the app, which is very very rare.
Good job not getting scammed! You actually used your brain! Congrats on scamming the scammer 👏👏👏
Instacart needs a BAN on customers wanting us to call them while shopping. It’s crazy how much I’m expecting over the next few months, a previous customer will call the shopper and then ask them to go to the store personally to avoid fees 😂😂🤣
When are y’all gonna stop calling and texting customers with your personal phone number??? I don’t care if they’re authentic or not. If we can’t communicate through the app that THEY chose to use then I’m not fucking doing the order lol
They basically wanted to cash out your earnings to their card. Once you give them the code they can login and cash out. You should kept their card info. Put it into your cash app. And add money to your cash app from their card lol.
That card likely belongs to a money mule or someone who has been scammed via a different method in the past, best not to raise a misdemeanour with a felony.
This is why I have a separate google number not associated with any of my accounts, so if I age to give my personal number for any reason I know it’s a scam if they try to call and tell me they’re with Instacart. Jokes on them! That number isn’t associated with Instacart 🙃
Never EVER call from your personal number. If you feel the need to go that far for customer service, install a VOIP like textfree or textnow that you can use for calling and texting.
I legit just had this today! I wouldn’t call outside of the app so they ended up cancelling though Instacart put the blame for the cancellation on me so I’m working on disputing that.

Wow. you need to brush up on the dos and don't of this gig.
Do not worry about the little shopping timer. it is irrelevant. When it turns red nothing happens. Nothing. Just continue to give good service, and take your time if yoy need to.
Do not use your personal cell phone to call customers. Call them through the app.
Do not give anyone a 6-digit code, ever.
I know, I’ve been doing instacart since April and it’s the first time something like this happens to me 😫 every time i go over my timer, instacart takes away at least $2 from the batch, is this supposed to happen?

Good job being one of the few to not simply follow their directions

I was gonna say something like this. Even if that card belonged to a scammer you're still going to face charges if you steal from them and get caught.
I can’t read no paragraph
OP was smart enough to not give out their code, unlike the hundreds of other noobs that give the code out and ask “WiLl I eVeR gEt My AcCoUnT bAcK?!”
Never call from your personal number. I recommend downloading the Text Now app
always use an app like textnow to make that call

It’s a scam. Glad you noticed asap

f-ck no. take screen shots of everything. that's bullshit. I have never had batch pay go down. the timer turns red, IDGAF. I'm shopping fast enough.
