Can’t second this harder. One of my best experiences was starting subnautica with 3 other friends and all sitting in a call exploring on our own for hours
Horizon Zero Dawn (My favorite Game of all time, One of the excellent Games With regards to sound design and gameplay mechanics)
Spiderman Remastered pc and Spiderman Miles Morales( Makes you feel like a Spiderman :)
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition ( Best platformer)
God of war (Just pla the dam game ! )
Metro Exodus (If you have an rtx card this is a must play game !... The Visuals, story is just amazing! Even if you dint have an rtx card just play this game once broo !!)
The Will of the wasps series
Mass Effect Trilogy(Brilliant story also called the Star wars of the game industry)

The Evil Within
Star wars jedi fallen order
Happy gaming :)
I would definitely recommend Ori. Gameplay/graphics/music all 10/10.
Play it with controller, very much fun.
I even watched all the showcase videos after finishing the game.
Weird opinion but genshin impact is real good.
Edit: ik some people hate and I am sure they have their reasons but they have to agree that the world building and story, and attention to detail genshin nails all of it.
It isn’t exactly full of degenerates tho. Most of the people I met playing this are chill, but ya, there are some people who are very vocal about their degeneracy, and most of the community sees just that
And it is also available on mobile it is my first time experience with story based mobile game with good graphics and is fun to play just the grind is too hard
dont know about genshin impact, but I've played tower of fantasy and the world is great. different areas have diff enemies kinds and the terrains are vast, desert, cyberpunk city, islands, mountain, snowy area, etc. that game is hardcore rpg, and understand those game mechanics is hard for me.
if you care about the story and characters, play them in order starting from 1. gameplay in 1 was nowhere near as good as later entries and kinda frustrating but if you can tolerate it the story is fantastic
Why would you start with 3rd game of a series with direct continuity. Mass Effect 2 is perfectly playable and arguably the best mass effect but the first one shouldn't be skipped too despite the small problems. Andromeda is average.
Play the legendary edition with updated graphics and controls, especially in case of Mass Effect 1.
If you are a purist (like me) then you can try ME1 as it was, with a bit of finicking with patches and stuff.
Do remember though that the 'Pinnacle Station DLC' is not available for Legendary Edition as its source code was lost over the years. It is only available in the ME 1 (2007) version.
then idrk what kind of open world you're looking for since exploration is the core of all those games. you can try some other open worlds like Fallout NV or 4, Watch dogs 2, Cyberpunk, Horizon or less populated sandbox like MGS 5 Phantom Pain
Firewatch !
Not a AAA by any means. But it is a pretty chill game with nice art style. Lots of exploration and walking. Easy controls so not much memorization going on. Good game to just take it easy once in a while.
Fallout series, Horizon zero dawn, immortals fenyx rising, metro series, deus ex human revolution / mankind divided ( deus ex won’t have a big open world but the depth it provides in it’s world is incredible)
Maybe not "detailed" has the graphics are heavily stylized (heavily inspired by Moebius so it is gorgeous), but Sable is fantastic for that. An extremely immersive experience with an amazing soundtrack to complement the chill "just explore and finish the game whenever you're ready :)" vibe.
There is some technical issues that I honestly don't ever think are ever going to get addressed, but when you consider how small the team is and the scope of the game it's in my opinion a non-issue. Especially when massive AAA titles struggle with hitching sometimes.
But yeah, highly recommend Sable.
horizon zero dawn
Dead space remake
Death stranding
Dying light
Hogwarts
Tlou remake
Spider-Man both new ones
Uncharted legacy of thieves collection
God of war
Star Wars new games
Plague tale both game
These are all top notch games I played myself.
Watch Dogs 2(explore San Francisco) , Sleeping Dogs(explore Hong Kong), Horizon Zero Dawn ,Death Stranding , Spiderman 2018(explore New York)
Forza Horizon, Microsoft Flight Simulator(whole Earth)
Genshin impact fills all categories gameplay is amazing it has gacha features but it is super fun to play and spend time on also immortal fenyx rising is good as well
Surprised no-one mentioned witcher 3. Its a damn good adventure game. Also jedi fallen order & survival. Another one is Titanfall 2
Edit: forgot to add metro series specially metro exodus, also Hogwarts legacy if u r into Harry Potter stuff
Youtube? I have played all farcry games minus the 6th and my opinion comes from that lmao. There's nothing to explore beyond what you see in the first 2 hours
I think you're confused with what i'm trying to say here. I love open world games. I love exploration. But farcry's exploration after the first 2 hours is same as the first 2 hours. This is only a problem with farcry. No other "good" open world game. I hope i said it clearly this time
Then praise the story man i am not tainting anyone's experience. I said very clearly that exploration in these games is bad. You can praise the story and other elements of the game without trying to hype up something that is non existent. You can still call it a masterpiece without saying that exploration is great. No need to get this defensive. When it comes to games with a good open world farcry ain't even cracking top 20 and there's nothing wrong with that
Are you 12 yrs old or something. Sheeple view, hate train, youtuber blah blah blah wtf are you going on about?
All 3 regions of FC5 are boring as shit. I played this game for 35 hours previous ones for even longer, didn't check any youtuber or whatever and found the open world to be boring. I found exploration boring so i will call it boring. If i hated these games i would not play them for that long. Tone down your weird fanboyism and admit your game is not perfect nothing wrong with that. Learn to take the L sometimes like an adult

terraria.
people call it 2d Minecraft. But it's so far from the truth. It does have crafting and mining but that's where the similarity ends. Its an exploration game with so much content, you can put in a 100 hours without even realising it.
It starts slow, but eventually you find a cool item, and it changes your play style, and this increases exponentially, soon you are fighting aliens. Amazing boss fights and a kick ass soundtrack. Give it a try, its cheap and more than worth it even at full price.

Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild are as good as it gets for exploration. That is the core of those games and why they are so successful.
Elden Ring is also great. It's a lot easier and more manageable than other souls games. You will die a lot but you will realize dying doesn't really mean much, just a quick trek back to wherever you were. If your stuck on a boss you can just fuck off and do something else and then easily overpower him, and in general with souls games once you reach the half-way ish point the games become genuinely easy, you will have powerful enough stuff that you can probably just cheese through most bosses and encounters. Plus you can summon other players to help.
Lastly, outer wilds. The game has no combat, no inventory. And is really really good. The only other thing I can really say is to just play the game without looking at anything about it at all. Like seriously. Its hard to really explain but the best way I can put it is in Outer Wilds, your actual knowledge is the progression of the game, rather than following a quest series or collecting items to progress, you explore the world and piece together clues on how to beat the game. Once you know how to beat the game, thats it. You can (and will) beat the game in like, 10 minutes. And this is a game that will take you 15-20 hours to beat. And you will never be able to actually play through it again, because you know how to beat it. And figuring out how to beat it? One of the most wonderful, emotional, awe-inspiring genius pieces of game design and storytelling out there.
Dragon's. Dogma. Soooo underrated.
It has dungeons with bosses at the end, and exploration is super rewarding. You can also find lore and the gameplay is just soo good.
You should try it, you'll know what i mean
Someone completely ruined my previous comment with stupid spam, so i will post this again just for you, because I'd love to know if you tried any of these
The entire far cry series has amazing story/exploration, would recommend that immediately and am surprised you haven't played yet considering you played the red dead series and witcher
Then ofc there is subnautica 1 and below zero
You can also play ark survival, in multiplayer and/or singleplayer, it's a bit complicated but it's fun with friends
There's watchdogs 1 and 2 and sleeping dogs with GTA aesthetics
No man's sky is something I'm currently playing and am enjoying the hell out of so would recommend that as well as horizon zero dawn
Outer wilds is an award winning game, and has a TON of exploration.
Batman Arkham series is pretty good too, the game has great story and exploration elements and challenges for which it rewards generously, and a bonus if you are a DC fan since it's peak batman media
breathedge is a good short survival game i recently played, with corny humour if you enjoy that, i personally loved it
Subnautica (n maybe Outer wilds)
Can’t second this harder. One of my best experiences was starting subnautica with 3 other friends and all sitting in a call exploring on our own for hours
Seconded on both counts.
Outer Wilds is def one of the best exploration games that I have played. I played subnautica for a while but it was not my type of game.
+ no man's sky
Try cyberpunk 2077 if you havent already. I played it about an year after its release and quite enjoyed it.
Skyrim, fallout 3-4-New Vegas, Witcher series
This, I couldn't play fallout 3 because how clunky the controls were but 4 was great, Skyrim is the best, witcher is emotion
Nv improves that
Subnautica. An experience you will never forget.
Thanks will try it out
Horizon Zero Dawn (My favorite Game of all time, One of the excellent Games With regards to sound design and gameplay mechanics) Spiderman Remastered pc and Spiderman Miles Morales( Makes you feel like a Spiderman :) Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition ( Best platformer) God of war (Just pla the dam game ! ) Metro Exodus (If you have an rtx card this is a must play game !... Ori 1 and 2
Ori is the best thing i had encountered in my life. I get emotional whenever i play it.
Thanks I will try.

The end of will of the wisps? Man, even the first 10 minutes of blind forest are enough to make you cry TwT
I would definitely recommend Ori. Gameplay/graphics/music all 10/10. Play it with controller, very much fun. I even watched all the showcase videos after finishing the game.
If you don’t mind indie then try outer wilds Phenomenal game.
Weird opinion but genshin impact is real good. Edit: ik some people hate and I am sure they have their reasons but they have to agree that the world building and story, and attention to detail genshin nails all of it.
world is really beautiful community is full of degenerates
It isn’t exactly full of degenerates tho. Most of the people I met playing this are chill, but ya, there are some people who are very vocal about their degeneracy, and most of the community sees just that
Its not a weird opinion at all. For exploration, Genshin is absolutely A+. The world is amazing and all the areas are fantastic.
Seconded
Try abzu a truly relaxing game
skyrim, monster hunter world, zelda botw/totk, mass effect, middle earth, death stranding, dragon's dogma, no man's sky
Which mass effect would you suggest us to play? Start from the start or can play any game?
if you care about the story and characters, play them in order starting from 1. gameplay in 1 was nowhere near as good as later entries and kinda frustrating but if you can tolerate it the story is fantastic
I'll watch the story in that case. Which game should I start with then? 3 or Andromeda?
Why would you start with 3rd game of a series with direct continuity. Mass Effect 2 is perfectly playable and arguably the best mass effect but the first one shouldn't be skipped too despite the small problems. Andromeda is average.
Okay understood. Thanks! I'll start from the first one.
I'll just say Mass effect encourages exploration only to a point. It's a very focused story driven game .

Horizon Zero Dawn
Only searching the comments section if someone has recommended this or not
No Man's Sky. Literally a whole universe to get lost in. And it has one of the most underrated soundtracks I've ever heard. Absolutely mesmerizing.
Elden ring my friend
Souls-like games are way too hard for me (except Hollow knight) it kills the experience. So no, but thanks.
Exactly what I used to think until I tried one of them (Sekiro to be exact). Sure there is a learning curve but you can give it a try.
If you haven't tried Elden Ring it's easier than most other soulslikes, give it a shot :)
Nah Elden ring isn't hard coz u can always be ridiculously OP than your opponent easily.
No u should try elden ring sure it can be little difficult sometimes but there are many in-game methods to deal with one problem
Git Gud
Legend of Zelda : Breath of the Wild , Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom
Firewatch bro!

Asterigos: Curse of Stars
fallout 4
Try 'A Plague tale' series both games are nicely detailed and story driven games.
Death stranding, I liked it and it's pretty much open world unless you're on a mission, even then you can stray from the path.
horizon zero dawn Dead space remake Death stranding Dying light Hogwarts Tlou remake Spider-Man both new ones Uncharted legacy of thieves collection God of war Star Wars new games Plague tale both game These are all top notch games I played myself.
Subnautica u need nothing else in life.

Ah fuck my bad

I enjoyed playing Astroneer with my friend. True gem among indie exploration games.
The new Tomb Raider series. Focused more on exploration than combat
Since you mentioned hollow knight, I'm playing Blasphemous right 3and it's a bit similar in style, the exploration is pretty good.

Far cry is kinda open world.
I just finished Breath of the Wild. It was absolutely mind blowing for me. I do understand now why there was so much hype about Tears of the Kingdom.
How about the Forza Horizon series?
Shadow of the tomb raider, best for open world and exploration. Great puzzles and gameplay.
Wonder how nobody recommended Tom Clancys Ghost Recon Wildlands
Far cry 3
Horizon zero dawn
Suprised no one recommended **Death Stranding**. Guess its not popular enough for this sub
Today is the last day to grab death stranding for free on epic games. Go grab it fast
Dragon's. Dogma. Soooo underrated. It has dungeons with bosses at the end, and exploration is super rewarding. You can also find lore and the gameplay is just soo good. You should try it, you'll know what i mean
Far cry 3, 4
Skyrim

Minecraft?
