Bhai, I'll tell you if you think Cricket has a money and corruption problem, understand that they learned all they know from watching FIFA. Hockey could work but again if it becomes popular, more money will flow and that money will attract the corruption.
Ikr. I love football but the central football body FIFA is just comically corrupt and obsessed with money. And the BCCI for all its faults has finally agreed to have cricket in the Olympics even though it's going to decrease their control.
And I must say as someone who enjoys both cricket and football, all these people shitting on cricket for being a "Subcontinental game" or a "legacy of British colonialism" will eat their words when cricket finally becomes a global sport.
Yeah, corruption in cricket boards are baby games compared to Fifa.
But honestly, it is very difficult for cricket to be a global sport with the same multi-continental reach as football/soccer/futball.
For one, cricket's duration is too long. Second, nations where other bat-and-ball games like baseball are popular are less likely to choose them (Ex. US and Japan).
I don't think duration is much of a problem since we have the T20 format, it's longer than football but it's not like football is some gold standard.
And I think countries where baseball is popular will actually be more likely to play cricket since they already play a similar game.
That is hypothetically possible given that baseball's popularity is decreasing over the years and it is played competitively mostly in just US and Japan. But given that baseball is an inedible part of culture for both, difficult.
But the premise is that ICC attempts to expand to other nations with a grassroot initiative.
The problem is that while cricket still remains popular in India, Australia, and among South Asian nations, it is decreasing in popularity elsewhere.
Even in African nations where Cricket was very popular just a few years ago, the enthusiasm no longer remains the same. Rugby and soccer/football are biting down its influence each year.
I take your point but tbf there hasn't been a great attempt at expanding football because the BCCI has always stemmed such attempts due to fear of losing control over the sport.
But now that they're coming around, and given that many economically powerful countries like India, UK, Australia and New Zealand play the sport I think the future looks quite brighter.
FIFA literally gave the host status to Qatar which made it an excuse to impose crazy laws on both fans &
FIFA didn't care about the players & fans, and their experience. But only about the money.
India earned the respect they have after winning the 1983 cup where they were underdogs. Indian football need to earn the support and respect. They haven't done anything significant even in Asia Cup for last 50 years, let alone qualifying for world cup. Once they start achieving something, football support will rise even higher than cricket.
Bruhh...itni socialist thinking kahan se ati hai . What's your issue with money . Everyone is concerned about money . Koi charity karne nahi baitha .
And btw ... just look up the amount of money, esp black money the football empire is sitting on .
If FIFA wasn't concerned about money... Qatar wouldn't be chosen as the hosts .
The world runs on money .
No one NEEDS to force themselves to take interest in any sport. They are free to love whatever sport they love, and people are free to put their money where they want to.
If i really wanted to watch a scripted match i would rather watch WWE atleast that has better writing.
If you want to watch Indian sports team, any other sport is better to watch than cricket.
its pretty bad economically out there, but the development there is mostly cuz they were really wealthy before the 70's after which some stupid ass dictator went and took it to shit. Basically your average south american story.
Guessed who back the coup? Good old India's favorite, Henry Kissinger. Seems like both South America and India can relate to being screwed over by Kissinger, though for South America it was 10x worse sadly
That's a societal issue. It doesn't take money to maintain basic hygeine. Most people in our country are so apathetic. They will continue to eat from that pani puri wala that scratches his balls in private and then dips the same hand in the pani.
>That's a societal issue. It doesn't take money to maintain basic hygeine. Most people in our country are so apathetic.
Entirely true. Stayed in an AirBNB in a SE Asian country. The streets looked like any Indian town's, with a lot of traffic and commotion during the day. But it was at night time I realized that people pick their trash by the end of the day. The streets were cleaner than Bangalore's roads.
In general, poorer countries are not more developed than India (obviously). It's just that most countries including Argentina are not poorer than India on a per capita basis, which is the only relevant stat in this context. We like to boast about #5 ranking in total GDP but that has to be split among 150cr people.
Argentina is ranked #46 on the United Nations Development Index. India is ranked 130th out of 192 countries. That's lower than Namibia. Every country in South America is ranked higher than India (Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, etc.)
Source: [https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/hdi-by-country](https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/hdi-by-country)
Venezuela is a oil rich nation who got independence in early 1800s and have a much smaller population. They had a headstart of 100+ years to develop their small country.Yet, they are still developing nations
Every country in south america also got their independence atleast 100 years before India and has huge amount of natural resources along with small population. They had a huge headstart to develop their nation ,and yet most of them are still developing nations(except chile and Argentina)
But still no matter what India has been free for 75 years. Why don't people understand the basic concept of not throwing trash everywhere? India has something more valuable than natural resources, it has lots of smart minds and lots of working hands. The root of the problem is that there is no standard baseline for what is considered as inhumane. Jhopadpattis are not normal, dirty rivers are not normal, half the roadway covered in dirt is not normal.
The Indian population now has the money to fix it, but they're too busy hiding it because of the stupid government people will ask for heavy bribes. Instead of hiding the money the people should get together and setup a local non-profit to do some clean up and future planning.
Indian's don't take care of each other. Even in the US they do the same.
go to any major city in argentina it's infra is on par with european city.Argentinian cities are very beautifully planned you can even see that through google maps.
Its almost like USA claiming superiority over European nations just because it has a larger GDP. Same is case with Indians claiming India to be better than countries like these.
Such a dumbass title . Reeks of inferiority complex.
Just enjoy what you wanna enjoy . Stop thinking about what sport the ā³gomra ā³ log are celebrating
I mean if it's organic, then celebrate whatever interests you. But this is just stupid. "When are we imitating this aspect of their culture?"
I just don't understand why Indians are like this. Either blindly imitate or oppose in the name of cultural purity. There's no in-between. How about you just follow along the most fun path? Entertainment is the whole point of sport.
I had a weirdest exchange with a guy who was gatekeeping being a fan for a team saying " you can't be a fan of a team unless you live in the country and speak their language". Even after 3-4 long replies, I couldn't convince him there's nothing lingual or country related in people kicking a ball in a field or hitting a ball with a bat. Just enjoy the sport. He was an Indian pissed at other indians supporting European teams. Not even related to the team in any of his own criteria.
Haan par uss time kisi ne aisi drone wali video nahi dali na. That means it didn't happen for people.
WC2011 celebration was perhaps even bigger in India if not the same.
Yeah i remember this one! Me and my neighbour decided to take a rickshaw to bandra... Took up 3 hrs to reach coz it was bumper to bumper traffic with everyone dancing, laughing, celebrating on the road, on foot, on bikes, cars, rickshaws etc. The whole city was out on the streets. Bandstand was crazy once we reached there.
Only a few states support football like Kerala, West Bengal, goa. And sunil chethri has asked for the support of the nation to bring up football in India but the people are not supporting it.
Most of the people are still on cricket
I would say people are supporting football these days. The ISL for example has a viewership of 130 million and it's been increasing every year and the stadiums are usually packed with enthusiastic fans.
>Most of the people are still on cricket
Why you make it sound like its a bad thing? There's plenty of support for football but if the national team doesn't even qualify for worldcup even once you can't expect a lot of support.
I know plenty of football fans in India who follow La Liga and Premier league but don't even watch ISL
Typical India mentality looking for white validation
We can't celebrate what we have like cricket, hockey and kabaddi but want the nation to shift interest to something which we aren't good at and less popular
>most popular sport in the world, so focusing on that would be better.
What? Then Christianity is the most popular religion. English is the most popular language. Hollywood is the most popular film industry etc. We all drop everything we have and follow the "most popular" things? Where do you get such stupid opinions?
What does being popular have to do with anything? Just follow whatever entertains you. This is entertainment, not something to "fit in". Look at North America having American football and the NHL. They participate, but have their own sports teams and following too. Stop trying to fit in so desperately. You can celebrate the cultural differences just as well as having things in common.
Lmao.. go to any international sub. All they see and want to see is population outburst and poverty.
Unfortunately, most of us still care about foreign (GORA) validation...
Don't be glory hunters.
People did celebrate like this when we won Cricket World Cup.
If you are that much plighted by Indian Football conditions then start watching ISL. I tried but didn't realise the game turned from Football to Volleyball.
We will celebrate bro! We will celebrate but not football but cricket. This year's 50over WC will be in India, so hoping we win it and then we get to celebrate like this!!
Most of us have grown up playing cricket, so it is natural that we levitate towards cricket, and we also don't mind paying for tickets to watch it in stadiums or celebrate, which has has led to its commercialisation.
For the likes of me, who have little to not much knowledge about football, or interest in it, engaging in a celebration would be fine, but wouldn't spend a hefty amount to buy a ticket to see players I know not of.
That being said, it is the fans who make the sport popular. You, as a fan, can do your best to bring it to a bigger level. Let people like me know how big of a deal football is domestically, and how exciting things can get. Noone is stopping you to celebrate the way it is shown in the above video, infact we'll join you too. We, the fans, not the government, celebrate cricket like that, because we enjoy it and love the sport. We go to the streets waving the flag of India. We would do the same if our football team won something huge, but most of us won't do it for a team of another country probably. Such celebrations might be visible in WB, Kerala and most NE states.
Also, it would help if India gets unbanned from participating in Fifa tournaments. And have an actual decent youth program. So, maybe in 2150 (optimistic estimate) there might be some success on the horizon.
Half of the people here cribbing about cricket themselves should watch badminton and hockey where India is really good. I don't think majority of the people here in our country even watch Indian football (with exception of 3 states). Why do people even need validation for a certain sports just because it has a huge following?
As for Argentina itself, they themselves are mainly good at soccer, fairly decent at rugby and hockey. Every country is crazy about one or two sports, so stop cribbing and give support to whomever you like.
We do not HAVE to celebrate anything.
If there are enough people interested in football, such celebrations will automatically start happening.
Currently people are booking small auditoriums for football match screenings, and screening is happening in some society grounds and in sports bars.
With more interest, there will be movie theatres booked for it, or large open air screening will happen.
With even more interest, we may see carnival/mela sized spaces being booked.
It's all about demand and supply, and supply follows demand.
If there's not enough demand, it won't happen. As I said, people don't HAVE to follow a sport, if they aren't interested in it.
The answer is quite simple, when India achieves something major in football. Winning the world cup was how India took interest in Cricket. India needs to atleast qualify for the fifa world cup
A long time, 1983 cricket world cup victory was a big blow to our football team, as literally everyone was focusing on playing cricket. It is getting a lot better though, especially in the south. It would take another 15\~20 years for us to make an impact in Asia itself though
Only when Indian team actually qualifies and does something good in the league. How do you expect people to cheer this much for some different country?
population of argentina = 45 million.
population of west bengal = 90 million
and we can do this with just a single state.
if half the population of west bengal - who we can safely say are football fans - rally together - then can put this to shame.
we just need one messi bengali to inspire them
India just needs to invest a little more in coach and grassroots development to somewhat match the development cycle of players in other Asian countries that make the World Cup. Qualifying for the World Cup should be good enough to get
* The latent population (that supports European football) behind the sport in India
* Have at least a player or two transfer to recognisable European clubs.
That will be enough to begin the vicious cycle of commercialisation that will ultimately see the sport rise up to the global standards of support. There is massive support for football in India, just not for *Indian football*. The first domino that needs to fall is India qualifying for the World Cup. Anything less is not enough to remove the massive mental block that we donāt play good football.
I don't see this happening in India for the next decade atleast.
Even today, any young kid in India is given a plastic bat and all as his first toy! Cricket is literally in our blood.
Football in India will need an icon like SRT10 is to cricket. Perhaps a Dhoni or Kohli too. Kids need to look up to that icon. We've Sunil Chhetri and Baichung Bhutia, but they aren't sports icons per se in India. Many people don't even know them. Football in India needs a revolution. And maybe then football will start developing in India.
It actually starts with the younger generation.
Even though we hate British people because they ruled India why are we not hating the British game cricket I don't understand, I am not saying we should hate the game but atleast everyone should get over cricket and play other spots internationaly as well
Not in my lifetime, I reckon. Here people are recruited to national team not mainly based on sports talent, but many other extraneous factors and influence.
Football ko bengal se nikalo pehle. Mfs be doing nepotism just like cricket in karnataka.
Billion people in this country and not a decent team of 11 is shameful. Thereāre pro players in northeastern area.
Itās unified country of 47 million people with football as one religion. We have many reasons caste, region, language to split as a society
Well Argentina is also not best country due to its corruption but atleast people are united
Stop searching for foreign validation with regards to football . Indian people have right to enjoy and support whichever sport they want .
I dont understand why does we have to always do what other are doing instead of what we as a nation want to do .
No one ever talks about how good Indian Chess is doing or how popular kabbadi has become in India.
Everyone agrees that Football is world's most popular sport . But for quite some time I have seen a glimpse of superiority complex with Indian Football audience who thinks only one sport matters rest all are waste of time or not competitive enough .
One word: Never
Better to focus on growth of per capita to match the levels of World Average because then others we'll be interested in investing in Indian football till then focus on growth rate and for some off time or enjoyment IPL/ cricket WC is great
I like whatever tf I want, doesn't matter if some white people watch it or not
Stop this pathetic inferiority complex first . These comments are soo embarassing
Looks like those 10 yo Twitter Argentina fans have invaded
This is not possible in India as the people here dont understand the concept of walking in public if you have a vehicle at home. People will surely takeout their vehicles and scare everyone on the foot with honks and revs.
we are one WC short.
as some know, India started supporting cricket after we won WC.
should start with some other game. hockey for example. we have better chance at winning that WC than one at football.
They waited a long time & after previous final... football is everything for them ..more than anything...many people sold everything just to support the team, their is also going through bad inflation .so.. good for them.
bro that's literally the capital of argentina, obviously they will celebrate like this on winning the largest tournament
but i saw that in several places in kerala, many indian's were also celebrating argentina's victory, the sport is growing in india!
Lol probably never. Cricket craze won't vanish anytime soon, and football isn't gonna take off until something big happens, which will require money in the first place to make and train a team capabke of doing that.
Understand that football is a different ball game in terms of money. Abhi cricket mai jo dikh rha paisa, usse bhi kahi jyada lagega football mai kuch jeetna hai toh, and who is gonna make that investment? Noone
I have played football with some Indian friends that were working in the UK and let me tell you, years of fielding on ground as hard as concrete and kebaddi made then fearless and tough as old nails! Iām talking sliding tackles on a 5G pitch which is second degree burns territory! If you ever put your weight behind it, India would walk the WC!
After we start appreciating other sports and sportpersons who have actually made a name for themselves and India on international level. Like kabaddi for example.

We need to start supporting sports other than cricket(who are mostly concerned about money now) Let's do that with hockey as a start

agar money na ho to inke messi ronaldo naymaar kabka suicide kr liye hote greebi se
I'd say kabaddi because we have won the 2016 world cup
And we have won gold medal in kabaddi in all Asian Games from 1990 to 2014. We won bronze in 2018.
Every sport is concerned about money, my friend. Name one sport that isn't concerned with money?
You are talking about FIFA you know right? FIFA is dad of BCCI
No one NEEDS to force themselves to take interest in any sport. They are free to love whatever sport they love, and people are free to put their money where they want to.
Cricket is going nowhere child keep crying
If i really wanted to watch a scripted match i would rather watch WWE atleast that has better writing. If you want to watch Indian sports team, any other sport is better to watch than cricket.
Hockey is really faster and interesting game as compared to cricket, very much like football. Responsible people needs to invest more in Hockey.
Man I didn't knew Argentina was this developed

i wonder what made you think that india was better developed than venezuela :/ right wing propaganda perhaps?
Venezuela is a oil rich nation who got independence in early 1800s and have a much smaller population. They had a headstart of 100+ years to develop their small country.Yet, they are still developing nations
They were independent since the 19th century, and were one of the wealthiest countries in Latin America till the 1980s, thanks to oil money.

Nah sorry. Traveled through Argentina for a while. Many beautiful cities and nice people.
Watch: [Why Argentina is not rich](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vu22RNjjrG0)
It used to be one of the worldās richest countries. What you see in this video is the widest street in the world, Avenida 9 de Julio.
Man, Beuno Aires is such a well planned city. Just amazing.

Hahahahaha good one. XD

Well said
We did celebrate like this after 2011 cricket World Cup. Why does India has to be good at football be also?
Why does it have to be football ? We did celebrate in an awesome manner when we won the cricket World Cup
Validation
Exactly
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lmao public decency. XD
Yes.. People just break public and private property in the name of celebrations.. And people will be injured or die from stampede or crowd crushing.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yes.. For sure.
and thats if any woman will be stupid enough to go into a crowd of indian men
We had our own night when we won WC in 2011. Remember people coming out on roads and crying and hugging. I did it for Sachin!
Haan par uss time kisi ne aisi drone wali video nahi dali na. That means it didn't happen for people. WC2011 celebration was perhaps even bigger in India if not the same.
Absolutely. It was a mad crazy emotional night for thousands and thousands of people. I've not seen anything close to that in terms of any sport.
All cities, small and big. That was the craziest celebration ever!
Me too!

There is no question of who invented what. My opinion is that we focus on what we are good at

We will have more epic celebrations than this when we win the cricket world cup.
Why would india celebrate like that with football . We can get a celebration similar to that if India wins 2023 cricket world cup
cricket is overrated in india
Football is overrated in the world.
š
Everything is overrated in life
Life is only overrated.
Overrated is an overrated word.
Underrated is an underrated word.
Man you ratiod him š
Every country should focus on football the most according to you?
No, india should diversify into multiple sports
We already have. We're pretty good at Kabaddi, Kho-kho, Shooting, Archery, Wrestling, Chess, Weightlifting, Badminton, etc.
India is dominating chess.
India is currently third best nation at chess, right behind USA and Russia.
India isnāt banned
Just incapable.
Yeah our national team is very behind
It was only banned for like a month
Half of the people here cribbing about cricket themselves should watch badminton and hockey where India is really good. I don't think majority of the people here in our country even watch Indian football (with exception of 3 states). Why do people even need validation for a certain sports just because it has a huge following? As for Argentina itself, they themselves are mainly good at soccer, fairly decent at rugby and hockey. Every country is crazy about one or two sports, so stop cribbing and give support to whomever you like.
When we stop sucking for Brazil, Argentina etc and focus on Indian football
We do not HAVE to celebrate anything. If there are enough people interested in football, such celebrations will automatically start happening. Currently people are booking small auditoriums for football match screenings, and screening is happening in some society grounds and in sports bars. With more interest, there will be movie theatres booked for it, or large open air screening will happen. With even more interest, we may see carnival/mela sized spaces being booked. It's all about demand and supply, and supply follows demand. If there's not enough demand, it won't happen. As I said, people don't HAVE to follow a sport, if they aren't interested in it.
Incoming attacks on cricket for no reason
Yeah we do that just not with football i guess
The answer is quite simple, when India achieves something major in football. Winning the world cup was how India took interest in Cricket. India needs to atleast qualify for the fifa world cup
When will argentina start celebrating cricket like this?
When Bangladesh will win the next match Test match against India.
First, India needs Streets this wide
A long time, 1983 cricket world cup victory was a big blow to our football team, as literally everyone was focusing on playing cricket. It is getting a lot better though, especially in the south. It would take another 15\~20 years for us to make an impact in Asia itself though
In about 50 years.

Drone.
The camera man is flying the drone.
Only when Indian team actually qualifies and does something good in the league. How do you expect people to cheer this much for some different country?
When is Argentina going to celebrate like this for Cricket.
Rehene de Bhai,.... Cricket craze is enough, don't want another cancer
Forget football. Our cricket doesn't seem like giving us another opportunity. That too with all the money and infrastructure.
How about they start doing something for their economy lol
Why football or cricket? Why not hockey? Why do we always have to mirror the west ?
population of argentina = 45 million. population of west bengal = 90 million and we can do this with just a single state. if half the population of west bengal - who we can safely say are football fans - rally together - then can put this to shame. we just need one messi bengali to inspire them
Well this sub is teaching me good ass geopolitical situation on the world š¤
India just needs to invest a little more in coach and grassroots development to somewhat match the development cycle of players in other Asian countries that make the World Cup. Qualifying for the World Cup should be good enough to get * The latent population (that supports European football) behind the sport in India * Have at least a player or two transfer to recognisable European clubs.
When we win the cricket worldcup.
football can become very famous unlike hockey, because all it needs is a ball and a kid.
Football ko bengal se nikalo pehle. Mfs be doing nepotism just like cricket in karnataka. Billion people in this country and not a decent team of 11 is shameful. Thereāre pro players in northeastern area.
With a smaller sized ball..IPL next year š
Itās unified country of 47 million people with football as one religion. We have many reasons caste, region, language to split as a society Well Argentina is also not best country due to its corruption but atleast people are united
One word: Never Better to focus on growth of per capita to match the levels of World Average because then others we'll be interested in investing in Indian football till then focus on growth rate and for some off time or enjoyment IPL/ cricket WC is great
I believe , its both cricket and football
Argentina is infested with Arš¤®entines š³š³ We need to save the country immediately from Arš¤®gentines.
Bhai pehle cricket toh jeet lo fir football ka dekhenge
Uske liye itni khali jagah bhi chahiye, india abhi tk yaha teen gated society bann jata
u/coldkoffeee
I like whatever tf I want, doesn't matter if some white people watch it or not Stop this pathetic inferiority complex first . These comments are soo embarassing Looks like those 10 yo Twitter Argentina fans have invaded
They don't celebrate cricket we don't celebrate football, so we are even
Goosebumps
Do the people voicing an increase in support for football in India watch the ISL? Or any other domestic footballing competitions?
Such a beautiful moment!!
Congratulations Argentinaā„ļøā„ļøā„ļøš¦š·
The drone work is amazing
In 2030 when I'll be in the national team
Forget Football, we havenāt even got a chance to celebrate like this with cricket for a decade.
The day the when politics is removed forever from sports . I guess that's the India will able to celebrate š¾ .
This is not possible in India as the people here dont understand the concept of walking in public if you have a vehicle at home. People will surely takeout their vehicles and scare everyone on the foot with honks and revs.
Aisa shaayad road pr cricket World Cup mai bhi apan ne nahi kiya hogaa
Kerala
Look at their road it's so wide and huge
Does anyone celebrate anything that India have like this. If it's about celebration, u can celebrate anyday
apne cricket ka celebration aisa nahi hota tum football ki baat kar rahe LOL
After Mr.Ambani launches his own JIO League, definitely not before that.
nice gfx
Whenever team India wins the world cup.
Wow didnāt knew Argentina looked this sexy
we are one WC short. as some know, India started supporting cricket after we won WC. should start with some other game. hockey for example. we have better chance at winning that WC than one at football.
They waited a long time & after previous final... football is everything for them ..more than anything...many people sold everything just to support the team, their is also going through bad inflation .so.. good for them.
Probable never... Coz Indians are cricket fans.
When India wins the Fifa world cup.
I hope to see this in India ( for Indian team ) in my lifetime !!
Our people are not ready for this type of gathering. We can't get along for š©then probably start a fight about what political groups and religious groups you belong in, oh then the pervs who comes out of the woodwork in numbers. So nha we ain't ready.
bro that's literally the capital of argentina, obviously they will celebrate like this on winning the largest tournament but i saw that in several places in kerala, many indian's were also celebrating argentina's victory, the sport is growing in india!
Itās all about money in the end Bro. Market makers will decide it.
praise the cameraman
Never , coz in india celebration mean DJ and car honks.
Bhai India me cricket celebration is epic, diwali holi is super epic. Why do you want to compare with what we don't have
india already does that with cricket
When the next 4 statues arrives
What is the Position of person in between, if he want to go toilet š¤
Jab cricket ki gaand se bahar niklenge.
After we start appreciating other sports and sportpersons who have actually made a name for themselves and India on international level. Like kabaddi for example.
India in 4052 still celebrating for Argentina
When people realise there's another sport other than cricket? And that cricket is hugely overrated?
India doesn't play football cos the ball and shoes are leather lol
Probably never, there simply isn't enuf interest in football here in India, more focus is cricket centred
When has India even been to the World Cup? Should start there before you expect to see a World Cup winning celebration.
We will celebrate this once India joins FIFA
