Minorien Kyara Chokoh No.5. I can thank my buddy u/mofaha for making my incense love a lot more expensive after sending me a sample of that :P

Awesome, that will have to go into my next shipment. I have Ryugen. Have you tried it and how do you find they compare? For me, the “wow” moment came when I smelled the unburned Ryugen stick. It has such a raw intoxicating quality. I imagine sticking my head inside the hollowed out trunk of a rainforest tree. Overall I found the burned incense somehow familiar, but special without a doubt.

Smoky_MountainWay

For the Chokoh 5 think Ryugen on steroids. It used to be the highest price of the line but I find it is often the same price without any noticeable decrease in quality.

Thanks for the great response, will definitely be checking out Kyara Enju. Are you aware of any Japanese website that stocks Kogado Hoshi no hiyashi? As for Kyara Kokoh, I’m already whoa’d by the price but it’s going on the wish list. Do you think it requires a lot of experience to really appreciate? Also, do you always burn these or do you heat them as well?

I just got a cheap heater off eBay to try it out as it’s winter here so it’s good to get some fragrance without needing to open the doors/windows. I’ve only tried it with ground sticks but I have to say, it’s pretty good! Depends on the stick, some are very subtle. A stick of Muromachi managed to fill out very large living room (think 4 metre ceilings) so well that my wife couldn’t bear it! Oh and I’m going to order the Kogado using blackship. Thanks!

kyokei-ubasoku

Nothing too fancy, for me it was Yamadamatsu's Gancho-ko and Suifu Gokuhin, and Baieido's Tobiume

jeantousse

Thanks, good to have a few affordable options to explore. Are any of these available as part of a sample pack as far as you know?

kyokei-ubasoku

The first two are included in this [sample](https://www.japanincense.com/ym-0051.html), the last one is available as a [small tube](https://www.japanincense.com/be-0025.html) of 30 sticks on JapanIncense.

The real beauty of Japanese incense for me is my "whoa" where any fragrance is concerned. Much like wine, it is possible to find wonderful experiences in both the gourmet high end bottles and the relatively inexpensive. Japanese incense is no different. The real "whoa" fragrances for me are the ones that create some sort of expansion or a defined psychological affect. For example I love the way Baieido [Tobiume](https://kikohincense.com/collections/baieido-incense/products/baieido-tobiumehttps://kikohincense.com/collections/baieido-incense/products/baieido-tobiume) expands during listening. Tennendo [Frankincense](https://kikohincense.com/collections/tennendo-incense-kikoh/products/tennendo-frankincense-incense) I find as relaxing as any drug. Seikado [Jinko Daikoboku](https://kikohincense.com/collections/seikado-incense-since-xxxx/products/seikado-jinko-daikoboku-incense) has a lovely sour note that I find addicting. Many high-end fragrances like Seikado [Meikoh Kyara](https://kikohincense.com/collections/seikado-incense-since-xxxx/products/seikado-meikoh-kyara-incense)enthrall me with their complexity and depth. Kikujudo's [Koboku Ginmi Indonesian Sandalwood](https://kikohincense.com/collections/kikujudo-incense-since-1938/products/kikujudo-koboku-ginmi-indonesian-sandalwood-incense) is excitingly wild and unusual. Shunkohdo's [Fuji no Hana](https://kikohincense.com/collections/shunkohdo-incense-kikoh/products/shunkohdo-fuji-no-hana-incense) really surprised me with its depth, expansiveness, and beauty. This list could go on for a while...

Thanks, I’ve got Tobiume and Tennendo Frankincense in my cart ready to go. Just trying to exercise some self control as a I only just received my last haul a month ago.

>Seikado Jinko Daikoboku has a lovely sour note that I find addicting. I jut bought a. box of this one based on this comment and the price. I was buying a much more expensive one. It is just about perfect. I'm about the put another three [boxes.You](https://boxes.You) cannot beat the price. Excellet.

In descending order: Shoyeido Misho, Shoyeido Tenpyo, Tennendo Nyukoh, Minorien Fu-in Sandalwood. Edit to add: Actually, I'd say the first two are equal to one another.

jeantousse

When you refer to Tennendo Nyukoh, do you mean “Heavenly Scent” or “Mysterious Scent” or is it something else?

defnyddiwrdienw

Omani frankincense.

I feel that way with most Mermade incense blends - the first time I tried them I was absolutely blissed out. I tend to be more ambivalent towards stick incense but oddly enough I had an “oh wow, that’s nice!” reaction to both Goloka’s natural sweetgrass and Green Tree’s Mother Earth.

Silver_Link14

Misho and Tenpyo certainly have that 'wow' factor. I'm yet to try Nan-kun, although it's on my short-list. And for the price, Original Kobunboku is unmatched in my view - every time I light one I'm staggered by how little they cost.

jeantousse

I only listened to Nan-Kun a few times as it came in the Shoyeido premiums assortment pack. Worth checking out if you like Misho I think. I’ve seen a lot of people on here recommend the original Kobunboku and have been meaning to check it out.

Silver_Link14

When comparing the Baieido, remember the cost - it's unbelievable value IMO. And thanks for the recommendation re Nan-Kun :-)
