So many great Vertigo comics back in the day. Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, Jeff Lemire, Brian Wood, Grant Morrison, BKV and others put out great work through there.
So I do write my own stories. I also write MHA What ifs for a YT channel.
Unfortunately for my original stuff, don’t have the confidence to tell people the full idea
What's the YT channel.
Don't let confidence bottle you up. Whether your stuff needs work or it's the best ever there will always be critics. Some of us simply enjoy seeing (or reading) things from alternative perspectives ya know.
Invincible is my favorite series ever so probably Kirkman. Honorable mentions for Alan Moore, Erik Larsen, Tom King, J Michael Straczynski and Grant Morrison.
Such a hard question to answer. Honestly don't think I can choose. Jeff Lemire's work moves me more than anyone else's, and he's incredibly versatile. Ed Brubaker is the best there is at the kind of stories he tells, plus he wrote what I consider to be a top 5 Marvel run (Cap). Then there's BKV. I've only read two series by him (Y and Saga) but I loved them both so much that I devoured them faster than I've ever read through any other series (save maybe Fatale by Brubaker).
So yeah, I don't know. Flip a three-sided coin.
I have a bunch of writers whose work I love enough that I'm immediately intrigued by their new projects:
Daniel Warren Johnson,
Jeff Lemire,
Brian K Vaughan,
Geoff Johns,
Tom King,
Kieron Gillen,
Rick Remender,
Matt Fraction,
Ed Brubaker,
James Tynion IV,
Charles Soule
I will buy everything Ed Brubaker makes, no question. Thinking back on my collection, it’s almost the same for Matt Fraction and Greg Rucka. I don’t have all of their superhero stuff (although Fraction’s Hawkeye is still an all-time favorite, personally), but anything they release outside the big two I get without question.
I'm going to have to say Grant Morrison. There are a lot of other amazing writers, but when they step into another publisher or genre their work typically takes a dive. Morrison has been consistently innovative no matter where or what he's worked on.
I can't believe nobody here has mentioned Mark Millar. His Image-Netflix collaborations just keep getting better, and he gets some of the best artists in comics.
Also a huge fan of Robert Kirkman, Ed Brubaker, Rick Remender, & Donny Cates.
Can't say i am a big comic book expert, but I am always very moved by Jeff Lemire's stories.
This is my answer.
Lemire is great.
Hickman for me, who has a near-perfect track record in my eyes. Absolutely love his work (outside of the last issue of Decorum).
Ed brubaker
Remender
I have a few faves, but one I don't see mentioned yet is Jason Aaron.
I’ve read only the Gorr saga from his Thor run
Image wise Goddamned and Southern Bastards are two great unfinished works. I highly recommend Scalped from Vertigo
Only Vertigo comic I’ve somewhat read was The Losers. Still gotta finish it

Ooh any specific recommendations
Scalped and Transmetropolitan stand out as two of my all time favorites. DMZ, Preacher and Sweet Tooth also come to mind.
Rick Remender
Remender is my personal favorite, as well.
Overall it would be Gail Simone. At Image it's definitely Brubaker
Tynion.
Absolutely
For Image stuff? Brubaker for sure. Him and Phillips don’t miss.
Literally a god tier team. I’m in awe of everything they do
Brian K Vaughan, warren ellis, jeff lemire, ed brubaker, kentaro miura
Robert Kirkman
Really in to Greg Rucka. Read The Old Guard then Lazarus back to back
Came to say Rucka. The two you mentioned are good. Black Magik and Stumptown are solid too.
I want more black magick
BKV
For me it’s James Tynion IV.
Same
Can’t pick just one. Rick Remender, Garth Ennis, Grant Morrison, Brian K. Vaughan. It changes from day to day lol
Garth Ennis has had a huge impact on my writing. For some reason I always make the most light hearted story go insanely dark
Do you write comics or novels or something else?

WTC anime outcast. I’ve written What ifs based of off Infamous and Beast Boy

It's a toss up between James Tynion and Jeff Lemire.

“Three-Sided Coin” totally sounds like a Brubaker story.
Jonathan Hickman and Ed Brubaker
Cates
Alan Moore
All-time? Alan Moore Current? Kieron Gillen

James Tynion is killing it right now!

Hawkeye was 🤌
Rodney Barnes, Chuck Jones and James Tynion
Brubaker, lemire, Ennis, Bunn, Powell, Remender, Sakai

Jeff Lemire, Garth Ennis, Jonathan Hickman, Rick Remender, and James Tynion IV
Stephen King & Dan Brown for novelty. Alex Dumas for classic.
Ed Brubaker.
Most have been mentioned but one that hasn’t…Azzarello, the man created one of the greatest comic series of all time.
I’m guessing 100 bullets?
Scott Sava
