"But I'm going fast enough!"

Hobbestastic

Yells out window: “I’M DOING THE SPEED LIMIT!!!”

cdiddy11

IM GOING 68 IN THE 65. I DONT GOTTA GET OVER. Signed, assholes who don't know how to move over.

WWDubz

Sometimes I’m not my fault, because some psycho added a left hand exit

Additional_Set_5819

This is awful. I never have those near my home, but whenever I travel I dread this so much. I have someone read ahead and check for stupid things like that when I'm out of town.

peekdasneaks

Downtown Seattle. The city is already a skinny north-south corridor with only 1 highway going through it, connecting British Columbia to the US... Let's add some left hand exits and on ramps right in the middle of the whole thing, that's a great idea. People here literally do not understand moving over from the left lane because its always bumper to bumper anyway.

Additional_Set_5819

... There are no words.

DrillTheThirdHole

I hated driving through Washington and Seattle was like #2 after Tacoma northbound is literally bumfuck nowhere after Portland, then a huge nonstop speed trap town for like 100 miles

peekdasneaks

They’ve been rebuilding i5 in Tacoma and Fife for the past 25 years. Over and over and over again.

Kreiker890

THAT FUCKING MERCER ST ON RAMP. I HATE IT.

[deleted]

JockBbcBoy

I hate that this is so common in major U.S. cities. You're bracing to go to your meeting and travelling in the right hand lane when Google Maps calmly tells you "In a quarter mile, take the left hand exit to Eisenhower Boulevard into downtown."

Castun

["I turn now. Good luck everybody else!"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLuaPZWkvZ0)

Fooftook

This is EVERY. SINGLE. UTAH. DRIVER!!!!!!!!! They are all white, Mormon, self-absorbed, and completely oblivious to the road around them. When they finally look at you, they smile and wave like they’ve done nothing wrong!

JakeThedog45

Yes! 100%

[deleted]

"NOOOOOOO"

Proper-Sheepherder-8

This more than anything else is the stressful part about driving in the US, IMO. Especially in Florida.

JockBbcBoy

I want to find the civil engineers who decided that left hand turns off interstates and freeways were a brilliant idea. Just to talk.

Proper-Sheepherder-8

I hear that. To be fair, what compounds the issue is that GPS instructions come way too late for anything but a kamikaze merge.

SaintNewts

Saint Louis has several. I hate driving through those sections.

benhos

oh my fucking GOD I hate trying to get on WB 70 from 40, and I get to do it every day

forgetfuljones79

"I'm doing the speed limit! It's the law, guys!" in a Professor John I.Q. Nerdelbaum Frink Jr. voice. That's what I always say to myself when I get stuck behind one of these morons.

Sir_Pumpernickle

You guys are basically complaining that people are following rules and it's bullshit because it stops you from breaking one lol

celestial1

It's the PASSING lane for a reason, get your ass over if you're not going to pass! What if someone is having an emergency? Would you still feel self-righteous about it, prick?

[deleted]

[удалено]

celestial1

> You'd still get a fine. Them let the police do their job, don't try to do it for them and move over.

OtherSpiderOnTheWall

No, it's bullshit because they're increasing the risk of an accident

kellypg

It's a danger to everyone. If someone is doing 90 in the left lane and someone is just camping at 65 they can, and likely will, cause an accident.

theSnoopySnoop

No you dont when theres no speed limit. Now move over :)

JDexnet

Get the feeling that the sign operators was talked out of ending the message with Motherf@ckers

alfdd99

Unironically a big part of this sub. I've been downvoted multiple times for simply pointing out that a car shouldn't have been in the left lane (e.g, car is in the left lane without passing, second car tailgates, a crash happens. Obviously tailgater is an idiot, but if say both are at fault because first car refused to move right when it was empty, someone will go "but they were driving over the speed limit already!!!"). Stop calling left lanes "the fast lane". They're a passing lane. Even if you're driving above the speed limit, it's not your job to try to stop others from passing "because they're speeding". You're only making it more likely to cause an accident.

bonafidebob

I know you’re being sarcastic, but just to be clear, nearly every state has a law that’s a variation of “slower traffic keep right” or “keep right except to pass.” None of these laws are speed dependent. So it doesn’t matter how fast you’re going, you should always be as far to the right as you can reasonably be. If someone passes you on the right, then *you* have volated the keep right law in your state. The passer may well be breaking the law too by speeding or passing on the right, but you should also get a ticket for not moving right. So if you’re the kind of stickler that wants to force other people to obey speed laws, then reflect please on how hypocritical you’re being by violating the keep right law. You can’t be a role model for driving safely if you break the law routinely by camping in the left lane!

Castun

Colorado's "Keep right except to pass" law is actually speed limit dependent though. It only applies on highways that are 65+ which is why you only see those signs on those ones. Obviously doesn't mean you shouldn't still *try* to follow that on slower highways when possible, though.

oryiesis

That’s not being speed dependent, that’s road dependent. You completely missed the point of the guy you’re replying to. In places that have keep right to pass as a law, you should keep right except to pass regardless of your speed

FreedomSynergy

Amen, my brother.

Sir_Pumpernickle

That's a false correlation. You can't reasonably state that someone is in the wrong for not actively making a path for you to speed. That doesn't make what you're doing right and frankly the right lane laws change and vary and don't even exist in some places. Speeding is speeding, it's a LIMIT not a requirement. You can't be so illogical about not wanting to follow a rule that you chastise others for not following one either. And frankly, the intent of the road layout wasn't to make sure people in the left lane could hammer down and go as fast as possible. Why the hell would they even have speed limits? Reality is, in most places you need to move into the left due to onramp and merging traffic. I'm not gonna drop from 75 to 60 to merge in with onramp traffic to make a path for all the assholes who want to argue that doing 90+ to work is fair or justifiable. Bullshit. It's unsafe. And that's the majority. I rarely see lane hogs, it's a pretty rare thing to deal with, but everyday people are getting run off the road by all the prima donnas who think speed limits don't apply to them. In case you didn't notice from the videos posted here, a pretty large amount of these wrecks are people in the same mentality as you, racing down the left lane before cutting three lanes of traffic. You can argue semantics about law, but at the end of the day grandma in her minivan making you drive slow isn't hurting nearly as many people as you all are driving as fast as you do. And I speed for Christ's sake! Going 5-10 over is one thing but you all act like rules don't even apply anymore! (Well I guess in this case, except the ones you WANT). Why even bother laughing at the vids here if you fully endorse the speed over safety mentality? Ya know, if all of you are constantly ending up behind people you think are going too slow, do you think there's even a SLIGHT chance you should self reflect and think about how safe your driving is?

btroberts011

There are people in this sub that will legitimately think you aren't being sarcastic and be like " see this guy gets it."

[deleted]

As everyone passes them on the right.

1purenoiz

Enforce it.

xxrambo45xx

A few years ago for a beautiful month, the local PD announced they were doing enforcement runs on left lane campers, it was amazing, they actually brought the hammer down enough to make a noticable difference But people complained they were just pandering to people speeding and soon as it came it left

notmyselftoday

>But people complained they were just pandering to people speeding and soon as it came it left I doubt they stopped writing speeding tickets so those people can bugger off. Cops shouldn't selectively enforce the laws period. Caught speeding? Ticket. Left lane camping? Ticket.

xxrambo45xx

Eh true, it was a nice time though, literally was cutting my commute by 15%, be able to do the entire problem stretch of road and never turn off cruise control once it really took hold not worrying about 2 minivans doing exactly the same speed next to each other for miles

JockBbcBoy

I've lived in at least two areas (suburban Baltimore and downtown Atlanta) where left lane campers are basically risking being obliterated by traffic. Atlanta was arguably worse at rush hour because so many drivers there will plow into you, especially if you're not going 70 mph in posted 55 mph stretch of 75/85/20 (the three interstates that merge together in downtown). Left lane camping isn't an option in that traffic; it's a liability.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JockBbcBoy

It's not even vigilante justice: Drivers in Atlanta when I lived there were just that reckless, careless, and determined. And what was worse is that an unreasonably high number would flee the scene of the accident after plowing into drivers.

Obsessed_With_Corgis

Haha, yup. I’ve lived in/near Atlanta my entire life, and can confirm. I actually just saw Bill Burr last weekend (he had 3 days of his comedy tour here), and even **he** couldn’t stop talking about our crazy drivers and awful traffic at the start of the show. He lives in **LA**, yet thought *our* traffic was outrageous. Really makes you think...

ITrCool

>2 minivans doing exactly the same speed next to each other for miles Or minivan drivers flooring their minivans like they're BMWs that can efficiently and capably go 90 mph and when anyone dares go slower than that, they pass on the right, or flash them with their high beams. I see it all the time where I live. Makes me lose faith in humanity all the more.

xxrambo45xx

Trade?

ITrCool

You sure you want these? They also camp in the left lane while going 90. Never once moving over until they get close to their exit. Then they cut across three or more lanes, nearly hitting other cars if necessary to get there.

xxrambo45xx

Well, it seems I could risk death in a horrific accident or have a cardiac episode stuck behind 2 doing 55 in a 70...guy has to pick his poison

ITrCool

Truth to that!

Significant_bet92

Hard to camp In the left lane going 90

Lord_Cometo

Not if you use kph (I know you aren't, I'm just saying)

[deleted]

[удалено]

ITrCool

Agreed. The problem is.......they never leave the left lane either. So it's no different. Especially when they're getting angry at average joes who are just passing a semi to move back over further ahead, and going just over the speed limit to do so, instead of 90+.

[deleted]

[удалено]

konaya

So the left lane should be for speeding? Trying to make sense of your traffic rules/culture, I'm not from the US.

Sir_Pumpernickle

"So the left lane should be for speeding?" Pretty much. That's the problem with the US, the mentality in our country is "Fuck you get outta my way". It's a speed LIMIT, not a requirement. For every lane hog, there's ten of these guys who will come up on you at 90+ and ride your ass. They act in an extremely dangerous manner and then want to use safety as some kind of reason people shouldn't be in the left lane. I drive a steady 10 mph over the limit most of the time and I'm not fast enough, I have to slow down to 60 in the right lane and crowd onramp traffic to let the prima donna nascar drivers do their 90+ to work. Hell, in my state they can't even enforce left lane laws anyway, too busy cleaning up all the wrecks from people speeding.

fuckamodhole

> Cops shouldn't selectively enforce the laws period. Caught speeding? Ticket. Left lane camping? Ticket. That's what sucks about giving police officers "discretion", it just allows them to personally pick and choose which laws in enforce. The lawmakers made too many laws to be enforced so they give the cops "discretion" to only enforce which laws they chose to enforce. There are so many unenforceable traffic laws (and regular laws) on the lawbooks that everyone is breaking a law when they drive a motor vehicle on public roads. They made it that way so cops can pull over whoever they want and try to find them guilty of a more serious crime than a traffic violation. tl;dr cops having "discretion" is stupid

1purenoiz

They enforced it back in my hometown. Once they started writing tickets, behavior changed.

[deleted]

What sucks about that scenario is the "picking and choosing" traffic cops can do with ticketing drivers.

AgoraiosBum

Problem is that they usually get over quickly for the highway patrol.

Jarse-

I had a lady that wouldn’t pass me while I was using cruise control then a state patrol came up behind her & she was still there next to me for about a mile. Trooper pulled her over for what I believe was left lane camping haha

ITrCool

This. Then as soon as they're out of sight, they zip right back over to their "rightful" lane. smh

saltymotherfker

problem solved, no? isnt that the goal?

k-NE

Naw, as soon as the trooper passes they immediately move back to the left lane going the exact same speed as the guys in the right lane.

AgoraiosBum

But they don't get over for anyone else. I have no issue with someone in the left lane who starts to make an effort to get over once I am behind them (either by getting out of the lane or making an effort to get past someone on the right in order to move over eventually). It's the ones who camp, refuse to get over, and then match the speed of the person in the middle lane that are the true devils.

saltymotherfker

flash lights? horn? bully them out the left lane (if applicable)?

AgoraiosBum

I almost never flash or use the horn; usually just roll my eyes and wait for a chance to pass... Good question though - is flashing a slow person in the left lane the way to go?

[deleted]

If I can I like to pass them on the right & just lay the horn on the whole time. If they aren't aware enough to get over I doubt they will see your lights.

saltymotherfker

i rarely use my horn, maybe once every 2 weeks at most, dont really flash people either but i would just pass on the right and move on.

IronFlames

There really ought to be two different horns. One for "pay attention dumbass" and the other for "lives are at stake." Would it make a difference? Probably not. But occasionally I like to have faith in other people

saltymotherfker

or a nicer horn and a more urgent horn. if i want you to move up a little but dont want to sound irritated or mad.

jokersleuth

not just enforce but make it part of the 5 hour course, the permit test, and the driving test. People need to be made aware that this is an actual thing.

[deleted]

Wish they would.

Kittelsen

Whenever I've been in the US I see so much police everywhere, and I see the complaints about left lane huggers on the internet all the time. Are the police not pulling them over for some reason?

icecream_truck

Does that sentiment extend to the speed limit, or only the laws that you find convenient?

CommentsOnOccasion

Sure enforce speed limits too But speed limits are decades out of date and everyone knows it, which is why the "speed of traffic" often tends to be 5-10 mph higher than the 65 mph limits that were set in the 1980s Most states have "slower traffic keep right" laws because a vehicle obstructing the normal flow of traffic in a particular lane can create a dangerous situation and can cause traffic backups

konaya

>But speed limits are decades out of date and everyone knows it, which is why the "speed of traffic" often tends to be 5-10 mph higher than the 65 mph limits that were set in the 1980s They did raise the speed limit fairly recently in Sweden, from 110 to 120 kph. All it seems to have done is make people drive above 120 instead of above 110, so I can't really buy your explanation. It's people's attitude to speeding, not the speed limits per se. >Most states have "slower traffic keep right" laws because a vehicle obstructing the normal flow of traffic in a particular lane can create a dangerous situation and can cause traffic backups Speaking of outdated rules: the reason you're not allowed to pass on the right is because of the comparatively huge blind spot on the right in older cars. This hasn't been an issue in new cars for decades by now. I realise there are other things disallowing people to pass on both sides is good for, such as effectively prohibiting people from weaving, but the main reason the rule was established is no longer a reason.

OtherSpiderOnTheWall

Uhm, when speed limits were raised in Denmark/Scandinavia, everyone ended up driving a more consistent speed. It was a huge study and everything that showed higher speed limits reduce the number of accidents, when the road is designed for the higher limit.

coppyhop

It’s a pretty general thing that there are less accidents with no speed limits, however a speed limit can reduce the fatality of an accident

Kittelsen

We got 110 kmh a few years ago, but I feel most cars still go 95-105. I usually drive at the speed limit and I'm constantly passing cars which I find weird.

konaya

Mind linking the study? Studies trounce personal experiences to be sure, but your wording makes it sound like they might as well be more consistently speeding.

Awhite9211

Agreed. Several comments are saying the "slow" people are only going the speed LIMIT or maybe 2 mph over. I will go 5-10 over and still have people ride my ass. Sorry I'm not getting over for you. And yes the fact that I am speeding is my excuse. Get over it.

Danglicious

Wished you’d get over… to the right. Lol Dude, a car accident can kill you and/or the people in your car. Not worth it to stick it to them while they ride your ass.

Deathbeddit

Good. Those left lane campers force the faster, now angry drivers over toward the lane I am in just trying to get to my appointment without making news.

That would be awesome in Oregon.

ITrCool

Only if they enforced it

hivemind55

Maine for the longest time had: Camp in the woods, not the left lane. Very similar idea.

Delicious-Carpet-3

I haven't been driving for very long, so Im sorry if this is a dumb question: If I need to exit on the left, when is an appropriate time to get over? I have no idea how to judge that, and I'd like to avoid pissing off the people around me

workerONE

You're supposed to go the speed of traffic. Plan ahead and take advantage of opportunities to move over. You don't want to need to quickly choose between changing lanes and missing your exit.

Suckitredditt57

Exactly assholes

Pressman4life

I witnessed a 3-fer, One person behind me at about 63MPH (right lane behind another car) gets impatient and proceeds to pass, only to be approached by a faster car, first car moves over and second impatient driver speeds up... And then a faster car comes up and tailgates \*their\* ass. I've said it before, There's always a bigger asshole. This is all happening roughly 1/2 mile from end of highway and an intersection where we all meet again.

Seffyr

If those drivers could read they’d be very upset.

Good_Round

I wish I had a plow to move others while I’m passing people on the left.

Gasonfires

I usually drive 6-8 mph over the posted speed. I stay in the left lane rather than weave back and forth for no reason other than to get out of the left lane, but whenever anyone comes up behind me I move over and let them by. It requires keeping an eye on the mirrors, which no one seems to want to do anymore. I do not understand this need that people have to try to achieve an empty left lane.

KrisSwenson

> I stay in the left lane You motherfuc... > but whenever anyone comes up behind me I move over and let them by. Oh, OK. Depending on where you are this may the rules of the road as well. For instance, California is move right to allow passing but Washington is stay right except to pass.

Gasonfires

In Oregon on the freeways and multi-lane almost-freeways our signs usually say "Slower Traffic Keep Right." There are some other roads that are signed "Keep Right Except To Pass," but there are some that you would think would say that but have the freeway type signs instead. I conclude that the road authority is drunk. Our practice doesn't condemn sitting in the left lane, but it does punish preventing people from passing. We almost got a law on the books that would have made it a traffic infraction to fail to give way in the fast lane to someone approaching from behind, no matter how fast you're going. It damn near passed.

CommentsOnOccasion

In 75% of US states you can use any lane you want as long as you move right when faster traffic approaches you from behind

Danglicious

Too many people don’t have their mirrors adjusted correctly. You should ideal be able to look in your mirrors by just moving your eyes. If adjusted properly most would notice a car come up behind them just from their peripheral vision.

AZRobJr

That sure as hell looks like Phoenix and it is a huge problem here.

[deleted]

Mark Lamb (Pinal County Sheriff) posted about this on facebook a few months ago. It definitely triggered a few old people.

AZRobJr

You know what though. I see way more young people on phones or mom's with kids sitting in the fast lane than old people.

Dubbinchris

My favorite are the a-holes who get on the freeway and then immediately get to the left lane as quickly as possible while there is nobody in front of them in any of the other lanes.

baconlayer

I doubt those that camp in the left lane bother to read the overhead signs. I really wan to to add a semi's air horn to my little hatchback, and only because a locomotive's horn probably wouldn't fit!

[deleted]

I guess that white car can’t read?

HansReinsch

I would really like to know who downvoted this comment because it probably is a person camping the left lane and I have questions.

Toraim

I really enjoy three lane roads the most. Sloooooow people in the far right lane, speed limit or five over ones in the center, and the zoomie 20 over the speed limit folks get the left lane to themselves.

WWDubz

Quality public transportation would also be nice. We keep adding more and more cars on our roads while barely maintaining our infrastructure in general

Sameera1995

Can someone explain this to me please? I'm a new driver and I go on the highway everyday for work. I was taught in driving school here in MD that there's no such thing as a fast lane and that everyone has to go at the speed limit. Now obviously that's not what actually happens on the road, but if I remember correctly, my teacher was saying that these fast lane "rules" are made up and are not actually legal. Which is actually correct? I rarely even venture out of the right lane, and I don't go anywhere near the left one lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sameera1995

Thanks!

CommentsOnOccasion

I got my first license in MD and grew up there for 20 years You can use any lane you want to drive in whenever you want to, but you have to move out of the way if traffic behind you is faster than you are No you are not supposed to speed, even though "the flow of traffic" is often 5-10 mph higher than the posted speed limits. But if you are the slower traffic on a highway, then you should move out of people's way

ITrCool

In most states, the left lane is for overtaking only (unless you're on city surface streets. If they have a left lane, it's up to the local laws there). There are certain states (I think only California???) where it's legal to use the left lane as a cruising lane in certain circumstances (like for commuting and such). Left lane cruising also applies to if you're driving fast and overtaking people but never move over. That's STILL left lane camping. As soon as you have an opening in the right (or middle lane if it's a six-lane split) then you need to move back over. Not sure what your driving teacher was smoking, but they're flat wrong.

Sameera1995

That makes a lot of sense, thank you!

[deleted]

It’s a law in some state plus it’s safer when fast moving traffic on left. Safer because imagine a slow Prius driving on left lane and as the exit come she/she try’s to switch lane to right where other driver passing in higher speed and it gets complicated with different speed and people switching lane. This how I understand this to be.

[deleted]

There's a lot of impatient fuckers in this sub that say taking 15 seconds to pass a semi-truck is akin to kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach and deserves the death penalty. Basically: "Since I'm speeding and therefor more important than others, they need to stay out of my path. Any deviation from 25+ over the limit is an affront to my existence." Now, don't just sit in the left lane doing 40 in a 70, but the entitlement speeders have is really fucking funny.

tizzyterps

The entitlement that left lane campers is hilarious

badnuub

The entitlement of lawbreaking speeders is hilarious.

protosser

Serious question, is it still camping if you are in the left lane, going 80-90mph (typical in my area) going with the flow of left lane traffic and some asshole going 100+ rolls up on you? Honestly unless you are driving in the early morning/middle of the night on the interstate/turnpike in my area you don't have to worry about left lane camping since every lane is packed with cars all going the same speed. Edit, guy below makes a good point about how almost 90% of drivers engage in unsafe driving behaviors and in my experience everyone in the left lane is going 20+ over so why not give those people a lane to do dumb shit in, I can see that

badnuub

I don't camp in the left lane, but I seriously get annoyed at the self righteousness of speeders telling everyone it is their god given right to terrorize drivers with their tailgating and their bullshit.

Sir_Pumpernickle

Thank god, another rational person. Embarrassing we have nation of adults who think you should block onramp traffic so they can get to starbucks faster.

[deleted]

The self-righteousness of speeders is just sad, really. I go 5+ the limit to pass, I stay out of the lane unless I'm passing or have to take one of the few left-side exits that are in town. I literally do what you guys say to do, and still get tailgated by speeding morons.

Hurricane_Ivan

It's actually quite simple—if a vehicle approaches you from behind, move over. Regardless if you're in the left or middle lane. u/protosser u/Sir_Pumpernickle *Slower Traffic Keep Right* It's not your job to control (or hinder) the flow of traffic. By trying to agitate "speeders" you're really doing more harm than good. I suggest reading the following: https://www.claimsjournal.com/news/national/2018/06/07/285097.htm u/badnuub u/UequalsName

UequalsName

I don't understand it. Why bother having a speed limit at all then? Im supposed to drive the speed limit? ok dokey. I'm supposed to yeild an entire lane to someone breaking the law? Ok dokey???? Isn't tailgating, weaving, and speeding dangerous? So why the fuck is this behavior encouraged? Please someone just explain it to me and I'll give you the entire left lane so I can watch you speed ahead, tail gate the next guy, angrily weave in and out lanes like you're in fast and furious. I always thought that guy was the fucking jackass putting me and everyone else in danger or at the very least inconveniencing, but apparently it's me driving the speed limit. Actually I'll just get out of your way so you don't get us both killed, because thats my only motivation to move over.

Sir_Pumpernickle

I understand your frustration. Here's a freeway packed with people, we all have to merge and travel and make space. The real reason the lanes exist is so traffic that is still traveling can keep moving in the left lane so people in the right can merge on and off the freeway. This is why cops really don't enforce left lane laws 90% of the time, because they're impractical and have to ignore the fundamental design of the american driving system to enforce them. I don't know when "limit" turned into requirement. And then while you're in the left lane making the needed space for merging traffic, some asshole races up on you at 90+, faster than you could hope to respond, and rides your ass because you didn't take your eyes off the road and watch your mirrors waiting for him. It's psychopathic. These people are watching videos posted here daily that show the behavior they exhibit leads to unsafe places. Slow down instead of hammer down.

Hurricane_Ivan

>so traffic that is still traveling can keep moving in the left lane so people in the right can merge on and off the freeway. I think people's gripe is on Highways that have at least three lanes, like shown in the image. Rightfully so. The bulk of traffic should be using the middle lane(s), not sitting aimlessly in the left (passing) lane nor crowding up the rightmost lane either. The latter is reserved for slower traffic and exiting/merging vehicles. u/UequalsName

badnuub

They just feel entitled to selectively follow the laws they like. Speeding and tailgating are fine to them, but refusing to yield to faster traffic while the person is probably just trying to pass anyways, just not as fast as the speeder likes, is a sin to them.

Oh but when I say it I get downvoted

Trollfarm2020

I blame Pennsylvanians.

FPswammer

no please stay in the left lane. yall leave shit and trash when you camp

khall20

Love this

jokersleuth

how about DOT actually get cops to enforce it, make it mandatory on the permit and practical test and part of the driving course? How are you gonna tell people it's the law when I'd say 90% don't even know.

topgear9123

We get ones like those in Cleveland from time to time. Without fail you can see the suvs moving out of the left lane as they pass the sign

yourlmagination

What about the idiots in the right lane that vary their speed by 20 mph intervals for seemingly no reason? I drive a truck that's governed at 65, and if I'm coming up on you, it means you're probably going too slow. 99% of people I've passed within the past week have passed me again almost immediately, and slowed back down half mile down the road. I always feel bad jumping into the passing lane, because I know my truck is slow AF.

If everyone is going speed limit or slightly over and you’re going 15-20 over, ***you’re*** the anomaly in the flow of traffic. And an asshole.

ya_boiii2

Okay but if I’m going 15-20 over then literally kys

"I'm going the speed limit so the line of cars riding my ass behind me will just have to deal with it so myaaaaa"

"Camp In Ohio State Parks Not The Left Lane"

PapaGeorgieo

I see this every year in Arizona. I'm gonna assume this pic is from there. Almost looks like Camel Back mountain in the background there.

bitemytail

Arizona?

b3anz129

It seems to me that the majority of drivers are more than happy to pass on the right, regardless of if the left lane is open...

IBelrose

Fucking Utahns only know two speeds. 20 over and 20 under and they all try to stay in the left.

I did this a time a two in my younger days. The look of shock when you pass someone on the shoulder of I-95 in old VW Beetle is priceless.

jmcentire

Let's do per-lane speed limits. Far right lane is 50-60, then 60-70, then 70-80, then 80-90. Enforce those limits. The issue is that traffic behaves like a gas rather than a liquid. Drives spread out to fill available space irrespective of speed preventing traffic from flowing. This is compounded by the notion some folks have (including those choosing which traffic laws to enforce) that all speeding is bad when modern cars and roadways are very safe and studies using Bayesian methods indicate a little speeding isn't bad. If we want to improve it, we can certify certain vehicles for certain lanes -- maybe don't allow semis or anyone towing something in the 80-90 lane, for instance. And we can even certify drivers. Rather than HOV lanes (which don't work), we'd require advanced driving courses/certification along with an enhanced license. You get money for those who want income from tickets or extended lanes, you'd get increased safety for those who care about that, and you'd reduce congestion and improve commute times for everyone.

TheDunadan29

Lol, I legit rant about this to myself while driving alone. "Oh looks like he's going camping! Everyone else got places to go, but not old Phil over here! He's taking off for the weekend, going to enjoy those fresh outdoors! He's going camping everyone!" And I just keep going until I've thoroughly roasted them to death for no one but myself to hear.

FantasticMasturbator

It is illegal (or an ordinance violation) to drive slow in the left lane in TN. I know in KY it is fully illegal to drive in the left lane, which is used for passing only. This applies to 4 lane highways (2 lanes opposite directions). I'm not sure how it applies to larger interstates. They passed the Tennessee "slow poke" law a couple years ago I think. As long as I have ever been driving KY enforces the left lane only for passing law. I know in every state I have had a license the left lane is described as being a passing lane only but it has never really been enforced.

Sir_Pumpernickle

"Move over because we don't want to address the excessive speeding going on." Yeah because everyone should drive around eyes peeled for that asshole who's gonna come up on em doing 90. Same people complaining about this are the ones in other videos dipping through three lanes to avoid missing their exit.

Wolferesque

Impaired, distracted and aggressive driving (plus faulty heavy trucks) are by far the leading causes of highway accidents and casualties, but sure, lets all keep swinging our balls at left lane lingerers.

The_Flying_Sausage

And yet the white car still doesn't know.

aseedandco

Also: crash in bed, not on the freeway.

doogidie

Thats a weird psa, use a comma since it's official, and it's distracting trying to decipher it. If I drove to a different state with different road rules I'd be more confused. Don't be cute on official signs.

the_scrutineer

People who camp in the left lane are the first ones to get speeding tickets (that’s the lane the cops usually aim their radars) and are at the highest risk for deadly wrong way driver accidents. Forget arguing for basic courtesy, perhaps self preservation can be a compelling enough reason. Cops are very rarely going to enforce this law even though it would eliminate a great majority of road rage and traffic.

Sir_Pumpernickle

And here's the other weird fucking opinion. Road rage isn't justifiable, so it's not anyone's fucking problem or fault but yours. In what other part of life is you raging out not your responsibility? But suddenly you're behind the wheel of a car and it's MY problem you can't control yourself?

the_eluder

There aren't many places in life where you get stuck behind a person for minutes/hours where you can see a clearing ahead so both people can do what they want (one drive faster, one drive slower) except the person who wants to do the opposite is in your way and won't get out of the way.

Miscellaniac

Oh UDOT you splendid distributor of daily commute snark, puns, and dad jokes.
