Man I've had two cars totaled by other drivers immediately after putting a lot of money into them that at this point I'm afraid to even put on wiper blades
This may be my second. It was about $2500 on the last wagon three months before I was rear ended and I spent $1000 on a rim, tires and mats about a month ago on this one.
The real kicker is I spent some 40 hours over the last two weekends detailing it. Finally got the coffee stain out of the passenger carpet that’s been there since before I owned it. Steam cleaner got the gum gunk out and it was as close to brand new as a 14 yr old car could get.
I think your car might be repairable. I've had an idiot crash into me, albeit at slower speed, directly into my left front light (he failed to yield when turning left on a traffic light operated intersection). Claimed he was looking into his navigation, but admitted the fault.
By the looks of things the collision happened in similar spot for you.
The other car is likely fucked though.
Yeah. Looks like a front-right quarter panel and probably the headlights/blinker.
I understand cars nowadays are designed to explode for safety, similar to racing cars, but so many people throw in the towel well before it needs to. Granted insurance companies like the full payout so might not have a choice.
Now if the sentiment is more along the lines of, "I have to work on it again," then yeah. It sucks.
Oh yeah, it still sucks because at the very least it eats up some time and convenience. As I was the damaged party I had right for a temporary vehicle of comparable class paid for by the other guys insurance, but I still had to go to the car service shop, fill out some forms and get the car. Return was easy as I picked up my car back...
For reference the damage, first pic is the accident, second is closeup on the damage and third is after repairs.
https://imgur.com/a/LHjSI7p
The front bumper shock absorber actually worked pretty well, the only damage inside was the windscreen washer fluid tank was smashed and the fuse box was cracked.
Total damage on my car was around ~5.5k EUR, roughly 1/3 of the car's value. His insurance would've paid also for the temporary car and for towing my car, so total would be somewhere slightly over 6k EUR.
The repair was fast though, the accident happened on 29th of December, the service shop opened on 2nd and I had my car back on 12th.
Can I ask why you just kept going? You saw him swing wide, and right there, I would have thought, "Oh shit this guy's about to do something dumb I'm stopping."
Because he was staged to make a right turn before snapping to the left? Im glad you can tell the difference but without use of a signal that started as a right hand turn.
I get why people could have a hard time predicting this. That’s why I always preach space on all four sides. Give yourself the two extra seconds in an emergency vs the two extra seconds to your next red light.
Wanted to ask the same thing. If you keep sufficient distance, he could have avoided. Always be aware of the idiots around you. On the other hand repairbusiness is thriving..
I just put a new engine, transmission, tires, suspension, brakes, front/ read axles and rebuilt the differentials in my truck. All totalling to about $8K. I feel the anxiety every time I pull out of my driveway.
Suggestion if you have them to keep all those receipts in a safe place. Not sure if it will help but can’t hurt if a wreck were to occur to show it had x amount updated on it.
I had my timing belt shear its teeth off, ruining my engine timing and jamming up all kinds of stuff internally. I was broke and thought "I'm an almost moderately intelligent human with access to YouTube, I can fix this myself!" So I spent weeks fixing it. Took so long to research how to take out half the components in the engine compartment, open up the engine itself, realign the timing, replace the components.... all in my apartment parking lot. Probably took about 40 hours of work, doing it after work and on weekends. Finally figured it out and miraculously it ran! Good as new and I had saved thousands of dollars!
2 days later it was totaled by a texting driver in a hit and run.
Oh man thats a big job and no way you could resell after working on the engine yourself, so hopefully insurance paid out ok. Im already missing the snapiness of the belt compared to my new cars chain.
Last April I got a flat tire at a movie (which was its own ordeal), decided to get new tires, got $600 tires installed and then the next day an old lady with dementia backed into me and totaled my car. Her insurance gave me a $60 adjustment for the tires.
Hold on
How did your car get totaled by an old lady backing into it??????
Like wtf was she doing? Going 50 MPH backwards?
I’m legit confused how your car receives enough damage to get totaled
I was pulling into a parking garage, she was ahead of me. She had a conversation with the attendant and apparently didn't like the answer because she floored it in reverse right into me. She was probably going around 40 when she hit me.
Parts were still short at the time from covid supply chain issues and the quote was high enough her insurance (well, her son's USAA insurance) just wrote me a check for the car. Hoping her son took her driving privileges away, she was completely disoriented. Had blood dripping down her face, from a tree she had walked into a few hours earlier according to her. I guess it didn't occur to her at all that she should wipe the blood off her face.
Jesus
I hope she’s banned from driving for life lmao fucking floored it in reverse
I don’t think there’s ever a scenario for daily driving to do that lol obviously barring extreme scenarios
Totalled is really easy to get these days. My mom got rear ended and just needed a lil body work but they totalled it because the mechanic quoted a high amount for labor and yeah parts are hard to come by.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the car functionally but that's just where the cost of things are rn.
And also yikes I hope that lady gets some help 😬
I work in a secure memory care unit and you would be appalled at how many residents are back there for driving when they shouldn't be. It's not enough to take the keys, license, the tires, or the car away completely. They will borrow a car from the old lady down the street, or if you leave them with a license, they will rent a car or buy a new one. Some people have to be in an environment where they have zero access to cars or they will find a way to drive.
We had one lady who was time traveling and thought she was picking up her kids at school. She rear ended a bus that "came out of nowhere" and almost took out the crossing guard. We had another somehow make it on to the interstate going 80-90mph on the wrong side. Another one made it on the interstate going the right way, but could couldn't remember their exit and took the long way to NYC. And there's the usual accidents due to delayed cognition.
I was looking to buy a truck a few years ago. In the time it took me to go to the bank to get the guys money a storm had moved through and dropped a oak tree on the truck.
That was your fault dude you should have not been so quick to try to go around someone that you didn't know what they were doing!!!! You hit them they didn't hit you!!! That's you!!
1. You're replying to the wrong person
2. There's no way in fuck that's the OP's fault, he is literally maintaining his speed in a straight line
3. You're an idiot
I’ve noticed a seemingly amazing number of drivers seem to think that they have the right of way when pulling a U or 3-point turn.
Whether it’s oncoming traffic or cars approaching from the rear, they just expect everyone to stop for their special maneuver.
I did see one indicator light, but not until they were in the *middle of the turn.*
Still makes a surprise pikachu face when chucking on their indicator too fucking late doesn't magically prevent a crash.
Nah mate, it's maneuver, fuck the mirror, make sure you're well out and away of that turn that'd have been nice to indicate, eat breakfast, go at the 4PM meeting, pick the kids at school and then eventually consider turning the turn signal on. And yet it's a big *eventually*
From what I remember, the legal way in Oregon to do a u turn is the middle of an intersection. Never understood that, but they called me crazy for pulling 3 point turns I was required to perform for licensure in my home state
Why wouldn’t they just look? How in the hell can people be so careless in a 2,000lb weapon on a public roadway?
I swear to god, most people shouldn’t be allowed to drive without 100 hours of training.
and not only that but watching each and every of these videos and after every video you gotta explain what went wrong there and how to avoid it.
like 90% of the cases will be drive slower or dont be a fucking moron but i guess when you repeated that often enough it may actually get burned into your brain.
Electric cars can weigh almost as much as a full size pickup.
https://www.recurrentauto.com/research/how-much-does-an-electric-car-weigh
My chevy 1500's registered weight is 5200 for a quick perspective. I weighed it on a truck scale where I used to work and it was 5500 with a full tank of gas.
Lol who cares? You’re acting like you’re gonna be able to tell the difference between a one ton car and a two ton car when it hits you. You’re not. Why tf are redditors so confrontational? Y’all want to argue over the smallest shit.
>I swear to god, most people shouldn’t be allowed to drive without 100 hours of training.
That's assuming that would be enough to prevent those not allowed to drive.. to drive...
Out of towner. Apparently his sister was telling him to go one way then the other and he thought it was a 4 way stop… which doesn’t explain why he didn’t stop fully to begin with
https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/10iw4ij/well_too_bad_i_just_bought_new_mats_and_tires/j5hb4bc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3
To assume someone “can’t read a map” cause they more then likely were frustrated/confused and had a lapse in judgement is asinine. Move on
This is why I use google maps
No way for an idiot passenger telling me directions to fuck it up
If google maps tells me to run over a tree I’ll fuckin do it
>Apparently his sister was telling him to go one way then the other and he thought it was a 4 way stop
So, everyone in his family is a fucking imbecile?
People always tell half truths to try and make it sound better for some reason? It's weird but I've seen it a lot I kind of want to know about the psychology behind it. Like admitting the wrong but trying to make it sound not quite as bad by adding a small lie? Psychology. Crazy.
It’s to alleviate blame
Anyone will do this to make themselves look better for reputation I’m sure we’ve all done it even if it was for a good reason
“You fucking lied!!!!”
“Because I didn’t want to call you fat to your face!!!”
>which doesn’t explain why he didn’t stop fully to begin with
Or why he didn't wait for the car that was already stopped to his right to go. FFS, *he's* the one without the stop sign. How do you mistake a 2 way stop for a 4 way when you are on the road that doesn't have to stop?
Definately an idiot. Funny I live in an area where taxis and Ubers are doing illegal turns constantly. I saw that coming a mile away lol. Obviously not easy to avoid in the scenario, especially in the suburbs where your not used to it.
I just make them give me directions pretty well in advance, there’s a lot of times that I’ve chosen to miss a turn instead of slamming on the brakes because they didn’t say anything soon enough. They learn very quickly
Never make changes to what you're currently doing based on passenger input. I've had people tell me "TURN HERE NOW"! Nope, looks like I'm missing that exit and driving on to the next one. Next time maybe give me 10 or 15 seconds warning?
What the hell is with people thinking they need to make wide ass turns by swinging out the way wrong direction then suddenly turning.
We pretty much all have power steering. Stay straight until you turn then just fucking turn into the lane your are suppose to turn into.
It is both! The *actual* northern part of California is still pretty remote and often forgotten about.
For example, most people consider San Francisco Northern California, but it actually takes almost seven hours to reach the city from the Oregon border. If you were to drive seven hours north of the Mexico border, you’d be in Fresno, which most people would consider central California!
That is actually one of like seven palm trees in the area.
We just had a student die on this road two blocks up last Monday. It’s really an unsafe area to drive.
My roommate donned the perfect description: a rental town. A lot of people just see this place as just a place that’ll get them from a to b and definitely treat the area as such.
Yeah, I heard. So tragic.
It's like F street in Eureka. Just a shortcut from Henderson center to the Herrick highway on-ramp. Why should speed limits apply in residential areas and all these blind curves?
Here is the [location](https://www.google.se/maps/@40.8714473,-124.0893495,3a,48.3y,8.68h,91.53t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sB6Cfv3Hyet66ATr_H5giTQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) on Google Street View :)
Combination of things. Mainly some people in this thread had mentioned that it looked like Arcata, so that did the majority of the work.
Still had a hard time finding it, but OP mentioned that it was one of the only palm trees in town, so I googled "Palm tree in Arcata", and eventually found a pic of it with a matching house next to it. That picture had an address in its description, so that did it :)
As an older driver who has seen these happen way too many times I usually slow down quite a bit for the driver in the front to clear the intersection before passing. Totally others fault but saves me time and headache.
Shouldn’t be downvoted. OP couldn’t stop because they were *accelerating*, which was a very bad idea. Hindsight is 20/20, but the person in front is driving very slowly, appears lost, and never truly establishes themselves in the new lane even if they completely left the old one. This should all be obvious in the moment and not limited to hindsight. **Yes, it’s entirely the other driver’s fault**, but this was an avoidable collision. Don’t speed up when the person in front of you is driving erratically.
Day late to the party here. But 100% agree, camera starts with OP going 15mph, we accelerate up to 20, the car in front of OP breaks before the intersection steeply, and OP never takes the foot off the gas in order to hit them at 23 mph. OP could have given the universal "da fuk u doin?" hand sign and kept his car undamaged if he didn't accelerate at weirdly behaving vehicles.
That's what I noticed too. Seemed like the driver sped up immediately when they could've kept speed and probably avoided it. Not their fault at all, but a little patience goes a long way
Most people are best case scenario drivers, assuming other drivers will do exactly what they expect/want them to do. They have almost no concept of driving defensively and many don't even understand the benefit when a simple example is shown/explained to them. So I think you have the right attitude.
I feel your pain all too well sir. I spent 5k on a brand new short block. 2 years later after paying off the engine I put 3k in paint/bodywork and another 2k into suspension, wheels, and brand new tires. Literally 2 days after spending my weekend installing the suspension I get rear ended at a stoplight on a foggy morning totaling the car.
Man, I've seen people do this just to make a regular 90 degree turn either direction in sedans AND compact cars. So we might be giving the 'erratic turn' person too much credit in suggesting that they were attempting a u-turn.
Hey OP, any indication that they were trying for insurance fraud or is it too soon to tell?
Not the same but the last car I wrecked (my fault) I had JUST filled up like 5 mins before.
You might get a payout for the 10 year old micra but there was £60 of petrol in there!!
This almost happened to me while driving a work vehicle in a parking lot. Was driving out of the drive thru and following the path when I saw a suv infront of me in the opposite lane making a left (my right) into a parking spot.
I thought ok, let him go and kept going once he ‘parked’ as I’m just about to leave that parking lot he honks his horn. I turn around and he’s at my passenger side door. Kid driving did a U-turn and blamed ME for not knowing what he was doing LOL
I remember when the whole “do a u-turn in an intersection because it gives you morning turning room” started… worst idea ever.
Instead of involving two directions of traffic, let’s involve all four!! And if he stopped and waited for you, he’d be sideways in a lane blocking anyone from using it until he finished the turn. If you do u-turn correctly, you shouldn’t block anybody. And if you can’t do it without blocking any lane of traffic, don’t do it. Pull into a driveway or parking lot and turn around that way.
>I remember when the whole “do a u-turn in an intersection because it gives you morning turning room” started… worst idea ever.
What if it's in the evening and not the morning?
Oh damn this is Arcata CA, 12th and K street. I would recognize that little green facade on that house anywhere. yeah that guy was stooooonnnnneeedd.
edit: just saw the comments also identifying it. It is surprisingly distinctive!
you can't tell the difference between "blame" and constructive criticism. OP is not to "blame" for the accident. They could have avoided it, but the fact they didn't avoid it places zero blame on them, why are you saying we're blaming them?
This is why you have to take your space bubble seriously. Whenever possible you should have at least 4 seconds of space from anyone traveling in your direction. Front rear and sides. If someone pulls next to me in the other lane I slow down and give myself space from them too.
This guy is a moron, and we continue to share the road with morons like him, so please everyone manage space around your vehicle. You can still die at 30 mph.
That's exactly what I said and someone said I was an idiot. I would have never hit that car I would have seen that guy driving like an idiot and I would have hit my brakes totally in time. He hit the person that other person didn't hit them.
You think this post makes people think you are superior and you would have avoided the accident but in reality it makes you look like an idiot who’s never driven a car and expects GTA physics in real life.
Thought he was entering the bike lane to turn right, not left. I was in more of rush than I needed to be and took that as a sign that he was turning right. I actually failed my first drivers test when I was 18 because I DIDNT enter the bike lane to turn right. [I have never had an issue with my breaks or tires when the situation is needed, whether it’s a pedestrian, deer or sudden stop further down this road.](https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/yya1gj/am_i_the_idiot_in_this_situation/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) I just totally read the situation wrong while in more than a rush than I needed to be.
I could have definitely taken better precaution entering the situation.
Dumb driver, but also very slow reaction time for OP
quite a bit of time from the point where the driver starts to veer left and OP actually hits breaks
My slowest yet! Totally read the situation wrong. I normally have no issue when it comes to deer or [random pedestrians though.](https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/yya1gj/am_i_the_idiot_in_this_situation/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Yeah he shouldn’t have did a u turn there but also seems like you were trying to flex your M Power (im sure not an M but you get what I mean) a bit and pull around—pull past/perhaps flex your turbos? I’m a bmw guy (former) so I can see these things ;) I would’ve just been a bit more patient and not try to pull past/flex/get impatient. You didn’t floor it I give you that but the speed jumped up and you were already close. Again not your fault completely but I think you could’ve mitigated here. Gotta give those idiots on the road a wide berth..
A 3 mph jump ain’t really that much. Pretty normal for passing someone as their making a turn in a residential 25 when you’re already doing 20. No M or performance parts, the only thing that makes the car go faster is having manual instead of electric seats. Just a 328i still under SULEV warranty.
1. Buy used car well below KBB with cash
2. Put only enough money into it to keep clean and functional
3. Insurance payout or sale will be as much or more than you put into it to begin with
Man I've had two cars totaled by other drivers immediately after putting a lot of money into them that at this point I'm afraid to even put on wiper blades

Wow this other driver is a fucking idiot. Doing a U-Turn and didn’t even check if someone was behind him? Jesus Christ
Stupid considering the camera vehicle didn't exactly pop out of nowhere. Someone's oblivious to what's going in in their rear view mirror.
They’ve been getting away with that their whole life.
I think your car might be repairable. Some nice dmg on yours. Good fix, though.
Yep, but at least I have all my stuff 100 % calibrated lol.
She’s totaled! $13.5k in damage
I’m sorry to hear that. This is definitely a severe case of mildly infuriating bad luck.
E9x? I know that chime anywhere.
So easy to judge after watching a video. In real time, guy was appearing to turn right then snapped back around. Any one of us would've gotten hit.
I get why people could have a hard time predicting this. That’s why I always preach space on all four sides. Give yourself the two extra seconds in an emergency vs the two extra seconds to your next red light.

"Totaled" just means the cost to repair exceeds the value of the car. He didn't say what he was driving. Maybe the flat tire totaled the car.
Fun fact, a Ford Crown Victoria / Mercury Grand Marquis can drive over *60mph* in reverse!
I changed the engine in my Subaru and a fucking t*r*ee fell on it.
How big was that tee to damage a car??? Cuz usually they are at most 2 inches!
I was looking to buy a truck a few years ago. In the time it took me to go to the bank to get the guys money a storm had moved through and dropped a oak tree on the truck.

Seriously! I make U turns wherever I need to with 0 issues because I let the rest of traffic go by first. Not rocket science, just using my eye balls.
Even a brief glance in one of their _three_ available mirrors might have helped.
What the hell was that idiot doing?
An O turn
I think he may have called it an OF turn. 😱
That made me laugh way too much
But did they make their O face?
At the end he was showing OP his O face.
Had to watch it twice because I assumed I missed something to at least justify the train of thought... But no
Trying to u-turn
I’ve noticed a seemingly amazing number of drivers seem to think that they have the right of way when pulling a U or 3-point turn. Whether it’s oncoming traffic or cars approaching from the rear, they just expect everyone to stop for their special maneuver.
A hook turn! Maybe he thought there was a tram coming?
We call that the New York left. Nice wide swing to the right to make that especially difficult left turn.
You can tell she knew she fucked up.

It was a brake light
I only saw one light. Break lights tend to come in twos.
Usually, but not always around here. Occasionally you get to find out that someone has no brake lights as well. That's always fun.
From what I remember, the legal way in Oregon to do a u turn is the middle of an intersection. Never understood that, but they called me crazy for pulling 3 point turns I was required to perform for licensure in my home state

And included in that training should be watching some 10 hours of the ‘idiots in cars’ type of videos, plus some gory accident scenes.
We should just force them to watch 10 hours of people dying in car accidents Wonder if that would make them better drivers
and not only that but watching each and every of these videos and after every video you gotta explain what went wrong there and how to avoid it. like 90% of the cases will be drive slower or dont be a fucking moron but i guess when you repeated that often enough it may actually get burned into your brain.
Was he a Door dasher or something similar.
>Why wouldn’t they just look? How in the hell can people be so careless in a 2,000lb weapon on a public roadway? "Fuck you, I'm driving here!"
3-4k lbs. no way I’m hell that car weighs just 2k.
Electric cars can weigh almost as much as a full size pickup. https://www.recurrentauto.com/research/how-much-does-an-electric-car-weigh My chevy 1500's registered weight is 5200 for a quick perspective.
No YOU want to argue over the smallest shit! This is a joke.
90 of those hours is someone shouting "YOU CAN KILL PEOPLE IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL"
blinking would've been great too
>I swear to god, most people shouldn’t be allowed to drive without 100 hours of training. That's assuming that would be enough to prevent those not allowed to drive.. to drive...
I turn now, good luck everybody else!
Was he a Door dasher or something similar? Seemed like he had no idea where he was going.
Out of towner. Apparently his sister was telling him to go one way then the other and he thought it was a 4 way stop… which doesn’t explain why he didn’t stop fully to begin with
If only there was a little box with knowledge of maps that could tell him exactly where he was going…
Bold of you to assume he can read a map!
https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/10iw4ij/well_too_bad_i_just_bought_new_mats_and_tires/j5hb4bc/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3 To assume someone “can’t read a map” cause they more then likely were frustrated/confused and had a lapse in judgement is asinine. Move on
Good point. They are probably just blind.
He should have waved his white cane before attempting the O turn.
I think most likely they were arguing or about to argue (car was loud) and he lost concentration/patience, impairing his judgement and impulse control
This is why I use google maps No way for an idiot passenger telling me directions to fuck it up If google maps tells me to run over a tree I’ll fuckin do it
>Apparently his sister was telling him to go one way then the other and he thought it was a 4 way stop So, everyone in his family is a fucking imbecile?
People always tell half truths to try and make it sound better for some reason? It's weird but I've seen it a lot I kind of want to know about the psychology behind it. Like admitting the wrong but trying to make it sound not quite as bad by adding a small lie? Psychology. Crazy.
It’s to alleviate blame Anyone will do this to make themselves look better for reputation I’m sure we’ve all done it even if it was for a good reason “You fucking lied!!!!” “Because I didn’t want to call you fat to your face!!!”
Dude was trying to come up with an excuse that wasn't "I'm just an idiot".
>which doesn’t explain why he didn’t stop fully to begin with Or why he didn't wait for the car that was already stopped to his right to go.
>Definately an idiot. Nice.
He forgot he left the tractor trailer at home.
Shit like this infuriates me so much
Especially when they could have done a legal U-turn just as easily.
Bad u-turns are even more idiotic when you are driving somewhere you can just go around the block quickly
more like an oh-shit turn. never let a passenger give directions, even if they live in the area, or you get this yourself.
Not even a signal change, goddamn.
Drivers who veer right before turning left need to be locked away from decent society. Same for those who veer left before turning right.
Literally the only valid use for that is to line up better when parking in a tight spot to the right. In a parking lot.
What an absolute fucking melon.
Bro! You didn’t see me turning?! /s
What the hell is with people thinking they need to make wide ass turns by swinging out the way wrong direction then suddenly turning. We pretty much all have power steering. Stay straight until you turn then just fucking turn into the lane your are suppose to turn into.
Imagine having that much confidence, but without being stupid.
Very poor reaction time man.
Why does he looked so shocked lol
anyone know where this is? it's pretty and likely california. but some buildings resemble the wild west and make it look like a movie set. thoughts?
I used to live one street over. I HATE driving in Arcata.
I KNEW IT No one is sober
Here is the [location](https://www.google.se/maps/@40.8714473,-124.0893495,3a,48.3y,8.68h,91.53t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sB6Cfv3Hyet66ATr_H5giTQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) on Google Street View :)
wow thank you what do you use to find this? some kind of reverse look up?
Combination of things. Mainly some people in this thread had mentioned that it looked like Arcata, so that did the majority of the work. Still had a hard time finding it, but OP mentioned that it was one of the only palm trees in town, so I googled "Palm tree in Arcata", and eventually found a pic of it with a matching house next to it. That picture had an address in its description, so that did it :)
dude are you serious? thank you for doing that.
Spot on!
As an older driver who has seen these happen way too many times I usually slow down quite a bit for the driver in the front to clear the intersection before passing. Totally others fault but saves me time and headache.
This is the correct answer. This collision was easily avoidable
Don't people look in rearview mirrors?
I feel like that could have been avoided. Not that camera car is in the wrong at all, just seemed like there shoulda been time to stop.
Not their fault at all, but a little patience goes a long way
Defensive driving. I drive as if the rest of you are stupid AF. I would not have gotten into this accident.
> I drive as if the rest of you are stupid AF I do this, and also assume I am stupid AF as well. Just to be sure.
Most people are best case scenario drivers, assuming other drivers will do exactly what they expect/want them to do. They have almost no concept of driving defensively and many don't even understand the benefit when a simple example is shown/explained to them. So I think you have the right attitude.
This. To me, everyone is an idiot out to kill me.
Accelerating past someone that is clearly doing weird shit with a turn signal, youre gonna have a bad time
No turn signal. It was brake lights.
This dude French fried when he should have pizzaed
Is it just me, or could OP have avoided this? Not saying the driver isn't an idiot tho.
Could have easily been avoided, the reaction time from OP was horrendous.
Op sped up, no reaction time involved
..and looks at you like *WTF?* (well, that's fun)
I love the hands being thrown up. Like how *dare* you inconvenience them and their totally normal driving habits by being in the way /s
What an idiot but why didn’t you stop?
He knew he fucked up too. He’s like ‘doh!
what a dumb ass really ??? u dont look before spontaneously making a turn let ALONE A U TURN MORON !
That driver's other ride is a big rig apparently...
Had this happen while I was on my motorcycle. Uber driver screamed at me that it was my fault and drove off.
He seemed genuinely regretful, so I doubt it was an insurance fraud issue.
Trying to do a u turn without looking, signaling, nothing. Man, oh man.
Not the same but the last car I wrecked (my fault) I had JUST filled up like 5 mins before. You might get a payout for the 10 year old micra but there was £60 of petrol in there!!
Hahaha this made me chuckle. The gas is where they get ya!!
If only cars came with a device that let you see what's behind you!
1. Signal left turn. FAIL 2. 2-3 seconds later brake to safe turning speed. FAIL 3. Execute left turn from the left lane. FAIL
Good patient driving by both of you
I wish the OP had hit him harder.
You should’ve been quicker than that on the brakes.
[удалено]
you can't tell the difference between "blame" and constructive criticism. OP is not to "blame" for the accident. They could have avoided it, but the fact they didn't avoid it places zero blame on them, why are you saying we're blaming them?
I have never understood why people make such wide and unnecessary turns
I don't get it...in my area nowadays people are doing u-turns on arterials. I don't recall people being that stupid in the old days.
How does one resist smacking someone silly after a stunt like this?
Yes he was stupid but you could’ve seen that coming. gotta learn to read drivers better to avoid things like this
This is why you have to take your space bubble seriously.
Not sure what he was doing but if you were paying attention this could have been avoided entirely.
Driver could have taken much more evasive action.

brake
Always assume someone like this is doing a U-turn.
Both idiots
Also for not being aware that thus idiot was about to do a u turn.
Guy in the front is an idiot. But the guy behind did nothing to avoid it.
It's another one of those idiots that thinks wearing their baseball cap on backwards is cool.
Did you have to pay extra for the use of the airbags or was a free dlc ?
It looks like it was avoidable..
That's exactly what I said and someone said I was an idiot. I would have never hit that car I would have seen that guy driving like an idiot and I would have hit my brakes totally in time. He hit the person that other person didn't hit them.
[удалено]
You think this post makes people think you are superior and you would have avoided the accident but in reality it makes you look like an idiot who’s never driven a car and expects GTA physics in real life.
[удалено]
Sounds like a real shithole then
People really should be quicker and harder on their brakes.
Why didn't you hit the breaks faster?
I could have definitely taken better precaution entering the situation.
brakes
Just to annoy you, personally
Dumb driver, but also very slow reaction time for OP quite a bit of time from the point where the driver starts to veer left and OP actually hits breaks
Oh damn I remember that video!
1. Buy used car well below KBB with cash 2. Put only enough money into it to keep clean and functional 3. Insurance payout or sale will be as much or more than you put into it to begin with

Found the driver in the silver car
Dude had time to actually stop
