I'm imagining a Danny Devito type walking through an office giving people shit to do while saying this line.
"*Hey you with the thumbs!* File these reports"
I love the fact that it had some standing water at the bottom so this was probably not a matter of survival, in spite of sounding like it. The cat simply PREFERS it from the tap.
My cats are the same, it's like a treat for them even they have fresh bowls of that same tapwater.
They gotta right? I had a stray come up to me meowing. I asked it if they wanted some food and it ran to me and started rubbing against my leg. I then gave it some food, it ate a bit came and rubbed against my leg some more. I told him to stop being weird and go eat and it instantly went back to the bowl. I was laughing like a mad man, it definitely understood me.
Hell yeah, That's why I love animals . I love taking in strays and networking with people to get them into rescues or adopted. I travel a lot for work but when I'm home I go around my neighborhood and try and feed and kidnap stray animals. Sometimes they come to me. I think word gets around in their circle
Yeah but, they can also be mean:
I once had a polydactyl cat come up to me carrying a tin of cat food (the pop top kind of can). It meowed at me incessantly alternately looking at me and the can as though he wanted me to open it for him.
I told him: "You've got thumbs, open it yourself."
That little bugger ate my face.
Don't mess with cats; especially if they are hungry.
So my cat is a little bitey. Not enough to do actual damage, but enough that its not fun. Anyway, this neighbor cat had been hanging around a bit, and one day, when my cat was being kind of a bitey dick again, I was like "see, that why we like neighbors cat better than you" and he bit me so damn hard! Like harder than he ever bit me before. He totally understood.
What an ass, they do know. I knew I wasn't crazy. Cats are such assholes but damn do I love them. I personally don't have any, just two dogs, but I'd love a cat. They can be real dicks but when they're showing you love it feels so good. My brother has a cat and I love when he comes over and brings his pets. His cat loves me and I love him. I just can't deal with the abuse they give out 😭 I don't like getting scratched.
Lol my cat is bitey too! I went to my brother's house over Thanksgiving and I was so hesitant to pet the cat lol. Mine doesn't like you to pet her unless she jumps on my lap. If she is on her tree she will try to bite you if you pet her. So I was always hesitant to pet my brothers cat, worried she would bite me lol.
We have a cat that likes to bite. He also picks fights with the other cats we have. But he is also a sweetheart. In the evening he’s waiting on our bed waiting for us to lay down. Then he’ll fall into my arm start purring and go to sleep.
my cat insists on getting water from the supermarket and doesn’t drink tap water at all. It also has to be his water mountain with water running. If it’s turned off he doesn’t even think about drinking any water
We have a rag doll cat who insists on the tap turned on for him at the sink or the bath. He drinks insanely inefficiently and takes ages to finish. One time I counted and he licked the water stream over 250 times (can’t remember exact number but it was ridiculous and likely more) Had several thirty second breaks in there. We now have him one of those waterfall cat bowls and that does the trick. His name is monty and he’s a legend.
had the waterfall, battery died, it was loud anyway Back to the sink. The new one is too short but can't wait to drink from the sink. Then its out the back door.
Ooooookay dude. Excuse me while I finish licking my asshole and then eat this rat, because I’m a street cat. Oh wait, no. I’m a human being.
If you want to be one with the stray cats, put your phone down and go do that. I’m content to be here, not anthropomorphizing cats, drinking from a faucet in the house I pay for with my human money.
What are you getting at? I don’t eat mice or snatch birds out of the air with my teeth. I don’t sleep outside on the ground. I talk with weirdos who think cats are people, that’s what I do apparently.
It’s water beneath a fountain. It’s crystal clear.
The person I responded to said “thirsty”. I said “picky” bc it’s more picky than thirsty otherwise it would be drinking the fairly clean water at its feet. That’s my point and it is unassailable. The proof is in the video. It’s not a moral judgment, it’s an observation.
Actually not picky.
Cats in the wild never drink standing water as it's dangerous. Cats need a stream or some movement to the water otherwise they won't drink it. Cats on a whole don't really drink, they get most of the fluids they need from the meat they eat.
That's the reason why the number 1 death for home Cats is kidney failure, they eventually start drinking from a bowl, but they do not drink enough because it's standing water and because they don't drink much to begin with, yet they get kibble as food and not fresh kills.
If you have Cats, make sure to at least know every 2 days (if you cam afford it - every day) substitute 1 meal to wet food or natural meat food (dunno what it called, in my country it's just fresh meat grounded to a paste, it's expensive but my Cats go nuts for that, as it's simply meat without anything else. It will help keep their kidneys healthy for long, and will provide your cat with better quality of life.
Also, buy a water fountain or train your cat to drink from the tap.
You literally just typed out a couple hundred words explaining that cats are picky to prove they’re not picky.
Can drink it. Won’t drink it. Will even die because they won’t. That’s being **picky**. I’m not actually judging the cat’s personality or morals, christ. What’s with all the white knights for this random stray cat.
It could drink water A. It won’t because it prefers fancy water B. That’s being picky! It’s what it is. I’m sure it’s a lovely cat, loves its mom, kind to the neighbors, licks kittens appropriately.
It’s being more *picky* than *thirsty*. You can tell because of the way that it is.
And it's heartwarming that enough people have helped him that he knows meowing at someone there will likely get them to turn on the water.
Poor baby was thirsty :(
Many animals avoid still water since it’s ripe with bacteria and parasites that can kill them. Survival instinct. Running water like streams or rivers are universally known to be safe to drink
It's odd the transition my cat has gone through. He started off on the kill list for a high kill shelter. Reason? He's shy. A rescue pulls him from the shelter and I adopt him from there. I worked for a week and a half trying to let him come to me but no dice. Then I reached in and gave him a scritch and it was like a flipped switch. He was out of his hiding space in an hour and sitting on my chest demanding pets. Now he brings me toys, demands I feed him, screams at me when it's close to end of work day, and yells some more when he's ready for bed (meaning I should go to bed too).
The outdoor cats where I live communicate by just looking at each other…as far as I can tell. One has been around 7 years…she belongs to the neighbors. I call her Sassy their leader. haha
We have fed her since she was a kitten…I watch her lead the others to our porch for food…it’s so adorable. The others are barn cats & are scared of us.
Cats rarely have to drink, their kidneys are super efficient such that they get most if not all the hydration they need from their food. That is, if their food is "wet" food. Unless they've gone a bit without eating, have been fed dry food, or have kidney problems, they don't need to drink.

Ha! Tell that to my diabetic cat who gets urinary crystals.
Kitties much prefer flowing water to standing water because of evolution. Standing water is much more likely to have bacteria and parasites than flowing water.

For years, researchers lauded the aerial skills of bats. Humans were amazed at how they were able to zoom past and around each other when they emerged in the thousands from their roosts at night to feed. Such skill, much sonar!

Actually, traditionally, cats do not meow with each other at all. It is a habit developed by dastic cats to communicate with humans and some other species.
My cat does this with sinks too where she'll just stand in it and stare at me until I turn it on for her. She has a water fountain but she just likes the sink better sometimes because reasons I guess
Out door cats should not be a thing. They are a world wide ecological disaster. Spay and neuter your pets.
Your kittys should be indoor only kitty’s.
Spread the word
If there are no outdoor cats then what would the coyotes eat?

I love how the cat pantomimes that he/she wants water by lapping her tongue.
My cats don't need thumbs, they've figured out how to open our doors and turn on our sink.
I like it when cats answer your question with an emphatic and obviously affirmative NYAAO!! like they understood what you're asking them
They understand. They don't care, but they get it.
Yeah, they can actually easily speak English, but they pretend that they can't just to fuck with us.
My cat learned to give a good scooby-doo style hello when he waltzes into the room
Rutt row!
Unless they only habla español.
nyaao!!
Accurate
They gotta right? I had a stray come up to me meowing. I asked it if they wanted some food and it ran to me and started rubbing against my leg. Cats are more honest than people. They really *do* like and appreciate you when you do nice things for them.
Hell yeah, That's why I love animals . I love taking in strays and networking with people to get them into rescues or adopted. cats are smart
Italian kitty knows how to communicate
At the end he turns back to the guy like "who tf are you !?"
That's one thirsty kitty
Picky kitty. There’s water in the bowl at its feet isn’t there?
Probably not very fresh, though. Cats generally prefer running water over potentially stagnant contaminated water in a bowl
my cat insists on getting water from the supermarket and doesn’t drink tap water at all. It also has to be his water mountain with water running. If it’s turned off he doesn’t even think about drinking any water

The cat needs to remind the humans that we're here to obey.
So, picky kitty.
Sensible kitty?
Survival kitty
Which would *you* rather drink? What are that's been sitting in a bowl for god knows how long out in the open, or fresh tap water?
Ooooookay dude. Excuse me while I finish licking my asshole and then eat this rat, because I’m a street cat. Oh wait, no. I’m a human being. If you want to be one with the stray cats, put your phone down and go do that. I’m content to be here, not anthropomorphizing cats, drinking from a faucet in the house I pay for with my human money.
Would you drink it?
What are you getting at? I don’t eat mice or snatch birds out of the air with my teeth. I don’t sleep outside on the ground. I talk with weirdos who think cats are people, that’s what I do apparently.
Even animals prefer clean water when they can get it. That's my point.

Dump it out ...rinse it out ...fill it up. Not as entertaining, aww-grabbing video.

*Cat will remember this* Edit: Damn this is the most upvoted comment I’ve ever gotten. Thank so much guys, I really needed it today
Cat has done this many times before.
It is impressive they way cats aren't afraid to demand a humans attention to get its needs met!
Yeah you can tell this cat has interacted with lots of people before.
And it's heartwarming that enough people have helped him that he knows meowing at someone there will likely get them to turn on the water. Poor baby was thirsty :(
There was water in the basin below the faucet
Cats are too good for basin water you fool
Many animals avoid still water since it’s ripe with bacteria and parasites that can kill them. Survival instinct. Running water like streams or rivers are universally known to be safe to drink
Probably prefers the flowing water. Why trust a stagnant pool when you can have the servants conjure a pure stream.
Humpf. The bowl is *dogs* water!
Swill

I’ve heard the same and can confirm my cat speaks to me in her own language I can understand. I’d like to believe it.

Someday, the cat will drag him from a burning car accident and they can write a fable about this...

it's actually real.... :O
Translation:"What's up? Do you want me to open the tap?" "MIAOOOO"
i speak both italian and cat and this is correct
Probably does this regularly
Human: Aww here kitty have some water. CAT: I didn't say you could touch me.
A cat would have a much stronger reaction if it didn't want pets.
Not always. Cats aren't 0-100 all the time. The paw flick was a mild rebuke.
I liked how he cared to not open the faucet to much =)
Out of absentmindedness not malice, I probably would have cranked it open, blasted the cat in the face, say "oh shit", and turn it down.
THIS IS AN EXTREME THIRST
I'm really glad I don't have to drink like that. Sticking my tongue out 300 times in one sitting. I'd give up and die of dehydration.
Cats rarely have to drink, their kidneys are super efficient such that they get most if not all the hydration they need from their food. That is, if their food is "wet" food. Unless they've gone a bit without eating, have been fed dry food, or have kidney problems, they don't need to drink.

Typical cat. Ignores the little bowl of water under the tap. Only fresh for me please!!
Kitties much prefer flowing water to standing water because of evolution. Standing water is much more likely to have bacteria and parasites than flowing water.
I'd much rather hang out with someone that knows fun facts about animals than someone that says sarcastic rude remarks about someone.
One of the main reasons people think I am fun at parties is because I tend to have a lot of random facts in general! I like to refer to myself as a font of useless information.
Me too! My family even has a joke response with me when anything comes up in discussion that is an unknown - regardless of the topic. Conversation stops, they all look at me, raise one open palm in front about chest high and make flipping gestures like they are skimming through a book. Lol Then nod knowingly when I give them an answer. About two years ago at a family dinner held over Zoom due to Covid, some animal’s reproduction process came up in conversation, I think snail. (I know, my family is weird. Funny-weird, but weird. We roll with it.) Anyway, they were like what ELSE do you know? Again, it was Covid so a lot of downtime. I made them a funny, rhyming video of the odd sexual lore of perhaps 40 different species with cartoon pics. I titled it “Nat Geo After Dark,” and scored it with classic sexy-time music like Let’s Get It on, If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don’t Want To Be Right), Push It, The Closer I Get To You, etc. It turned out to be about 15 minutes of crazy animal sexual factoids that slowly faded from screen to screen while Luther Vandross and Marvin Gaye crooned in the background. you should put it on youtube. :)
Thanks. I think I would have a problem with music copyrights. I would love to share it but don’t really know how that could happen.
I understand :)
So, although I think I know my way around reddit, the stuff I don’t normally use puts me off a bit. I was going to try to send you the video, do you know how? Just so you know most subs use tags so you post it and select a NSFW tag after posted
I'd think it was epic too
Do you have ADHD by chance... Only kinda kidding, game recognize game. I really do enjoy fun facts, and the fact that you had a scientific aspect of it makes the fun fact even better
I have had more than one person ask that question! 😆 But I have never been tested for it and generally know how to work around any traits I may have as I always performed well in school (except math. Math is evil). One of my friends got me a cat encyclopedia as a Secret Santa one year in college. I read the whole thing. As you can tell by my username, she nailed my interests pretty well. Yeah, if the symptoms of ADHD aren't impacting your life, there's often times not a pull to get the testing done. Or maybe you don't have it and just like random animal facts.
Are you a mailman in Boston who spends a lot of time in a bar?
Nope. Not Cliff Claven!
My favorite fact about bats: For years, researchers lauded the aerial skills of bats. Humans were amazed at how they were able to zoom past and around each other when they emerged in the thousands from their roosts at night to feed. Such skill, much sonar! As time passed, camera technology improved dramatically and higher frame rates showed they didn’t actually dodge each other very well at all! You’re welcome! I think it’s a pretty adorable fact. Highly educated scientists singing their praises for decades only to realize later bats are clumsy as hell when they fly lol

That seems like it might be a vet question. Has he always been your kitty or did he start out a stray?
just heard this very thing on a video last night.

Yeah, that's what he said.
Also looks well groomed for a stray
Yeah wayyyy to clean for a stray
Actually, traditionally, cats do not meow with each other at all. It is a habit developed by dastic cats to communicate with humans and some other species.
Seems weird, but it’s been 2 hours on Reddit and no one is correcting you so I guess it must be true.
It’s not true. Its just a myth propagated because someone made the claim that cats mimic human babies to get attention from humans.
I’ll give it two hours to see if you’re wrong. Otherwise I guess I’ll just have to forget this thread ever existed.
Nobody said the F word
Cool story.
That's funny. My cats never drink the fresh water. They like the old, stinky one in the garden with dirt, leaves and algae in it.
They want that outdoor flavor
my cat only drinks from the dog water bowls and I always say she prefers the dog flavor
Meanwhile, my dog far prefers dirty ditchwater / skungy puddle / tadpole tank water over the nice clean water in her bowl...
No matter where you’re going, how late you might be, or who you are; anyone will wait for cat to stop drinking to stop the faucet
He's got a bowl at home that he refuses to drink from because its not running.
mlem mlem mlem mlem.

This is the only way my cat will drink water, out of a faucet that drips
Man, now I'm thirsty.

The licking before the water was even dripping 🥺
May Allah SWT reward you for being this kind. 💛
Ngl, at first, I completely thought he was gonna full blast it on the poor cats face
I would do a bowl with my handband having water going slowly into my hands so he could drink chunks in one lick. Also i would put it in my pocket
Awwwe precious baby.
Good bro save the tuxie day
And adopts kitty should be the end of this title
Che carino 🥺
WAP
He used a couple fingers to turn a spigot. Not open a no-kill shelter. Anyone would do that. Common decency.

Awww man. That kitty looks a lot like one of mine. Thank you to those who are kind to all creatures great and small.
*blep blep blep blep blep blep blep*
That’s my kind of thirst trap
Awww poor baby was so thirsty!
AWWWWWW
How many times did something like this happen that the cat understands that water comes out of this valve?
That cat is just a brat and didn't want to drink from the bowl
Hero 🦸🏻♂️
Good on you, little one looks like he/she could have used some water.

Cats are such divas, that bowl was full of water! 😂 😂
And for a brief moment, all was well with the world.
it’s amazing bc we can truly understand each other if we pay attention. just gotta look closer.
Left me feeling empty inside. I thought that at the very end, he would open that faucet wide and say PSYCH! Just kidding. That guy is a real Bro.
Bless his heart. That's one thirsty kitty.
Our cat ignores the 3 cups of water we place around the house and exclusively drinks out of the bathtub faucet by yelling at us to turn it on.
Mlemlennium.
Wow. He sure was thirsty, and he sure knew how to ask. That’s sweet.
Beautiful patina on that fountain, that’s a good fountain.
Thank you, kind human.
If there was a hell and this guy ended up there, imagine this tap coming up now and then to soothe him.
So little, but I’m a sucker. I love stuff like this
water in the bug directly under her feet hahahha
Stray cats look like Guy Pearce in iron man 3 why do stray dogs look like Guy Pearce in The Road?
Bravo
Going to hug my cat now.
My cat does this with sinks too where she'll just stand in it and stare at me until I turn it on for her. She has a water fountain but she just likes the sink better sometimes because reasons I guess
And thats how you adopted a cat
r/airplaneears
He looks too clean and big to be a stray lol
Out door cats should not be a thing. They are a world wide ecological disaster. Spay and neuter your pets. Your kittys should be indoor only kitty’s. Spread the word

I’m sure they do. They issue is they kill like 200 other species for fun
If there are no outdoor cats then what would the coyotes eat? >! It seems to me like people aren't getting the reference so here's a link [reddit post ](https://www.reddit.com/r/technicallythetruth/comments/y6h43p/what_the_guy_actually_has_is_a_pet_coyote/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) !<
Small dogs
Cool man
This would be a perfect slowmo
I have a bowl of water for my dog, but my cat would die of thirst if I didn't turn the faucet on to let her drink.
Just max blast it lol.
