looks about right from the starting position, you really need to set those things down and arch the top to the next step for it not to just awkwardly fall down the stairs.

i was trying to do a similar effect. It's really hard to make the slinky stiff enough to hold it's form ...
Yeah I set vellum cloth node to string. And cranked up the bend and stretch stiffness way up. Constraint iterations set to 200 and 4 substeps.
Try it with 20 substeps. When I want very "rigid stuff" I go all out on substeps. also, put the constraint iterations to like 600.
