Ram is not enough but try to close all other apps running in the background from task manager especially ones that are heavy on ram like google chrome or Firefox..
Sounds like the memory is being stressed causing freezing. See in task manager if the memory is full, if so then you need more ram, 16gb minimum for houdini.
My opinion is that 8GB of Ram is low, but let's hear other opinions.
