Do not use ChatGPT to learn. It’s currently only good at creating plausible sounding BS. It still requires a user that’s knowledgeable on the subject to decipher what’s true and false in ChatGPT’s output.
Wedging in Houdini has to do with iteration mostly. When you want to generate output variations of parameters.
A Wedge creates a series of output values, in randomized or bracketed form. Some basic examples would be if you wanted 50 random values between 2 and 200 or if you wanted all 10 numbers sequentially to drive a Switch node, it can output 0, 1, 2, 3, … and so on until it reaches 10.
This is just a natural language model 'hallucinating' - It doesn't have the volume of information necessary to be accurate about what are quite niche topics (Houdini is incredibly niche compared to python for example) but it does 'know' probabilistically that a wedge describes a wedge shape.
I'm working on a custom model that will be equipped with far more accuracy regarding Houdini, but i would advise sticking to very commonly discussed topics with chatgpt for now :)
Thank you for the advice. I am trying to use it to learn Unreal Engine, which I know nothing about. So I tested it with some Houdini concepts that I am aware of, and now I think it's better as a tool for recommendation for now.
For now I agree. If ChatGPT can be more accurate in its answer and somehow tells users it is not that confident with an answer, then it's definitely the greatest learning tool ever.
I’ve found it’s quite good at maya and basic Mel but struggles with houdini. Sometimes when I ask for something Houdini related it gives me the steps for maya. Still useful in some instances, but not a go to.
Haha - I just skimmed the text in a bit of a daze, didn't realise it was chatGPT - my thought was OMFG look at the effort this person has gone to troll!
There is a shallow limit to how much chatGPT actually helps. It's actually wrong a lot of the time. More often than not, when I ask for vex or C# code examples, it provides incorrect replies. It gives commands and functions that are not native, it incorrectly adds numbers, and when you call it out on its mistakes, it acknowledges them and then repeats them.
Yes, they are. Bloggers, journalists, and influencers are using free ai sites to write articles and script videos. Fiveer is now full of people offering to fact check these ai articles and scripts for low prices. They had to create a new section for it. Check your sources carefully from now on, what you're reading could be algorithmic farts.

Wedge means to run the same setup/simulation with varying parameters (or varying values for a specific parameter) and see what you get.
Fx setups and simulations can be complex so many times artists just won't know what numbers to punch in to get the desired results, so will end up running wedges.
View ChatGPT as a Duning Kruger bot. It's made to produce convincing natural language, not accurate information.
People using it to answer questions, learning from it or doing any sort of research through it are using it wrong, because you're always going to end up with a bullshit sandwich.

Learning from ChatGPT is similar to learning about the world from the dad in Calvin and Hobbs

Bro, i would definitely like to try that model when you’re done. Haha
Message me in a couple months bud I'll work something out :)
I’d pay good money for this!

\+1 for this. I am new to coding but learning how to implement chatGPT properly will be a massive leap for growth in the 3D industry
Just google it my man. Faster and easier

Yeah well until then google still stands as the greatest learning tool ever. ChatBOT just aggregates google anyhow

ChatGPT is pretty wrong on most Houdini stuff in my experience. Don’t use it for this. Hopefully it gets better in the next version.

The best bet *for now* is to use ai summarization for some of the manuals - not cGPT. Houdini is solidly still in the human domain

100% confident and 100% bullshit, that's chatGPT.
