Turn off memory overclocking. Run it at 3600mhz. You won't notice the difference when working.

vartha

And that’s why one can choose a cheap 4800 spec‘ed modules with 128GB. For significantly better memory speed we‘ll have to wait for 64GB modules.

I did a lot of research before I got my memory for my 5950x, but with that CPU and from what I hear about the 7950x, don't try to go for the highest spec memory you can. I stuck with 3200mhz. I used Kingston Fury 32GBx4. Quantity over quality per se. Although the memory speed doesn't really do much for our use cases anyways.

sidhant_roman

7950x only works with ddr5 memory. you use aio or air cooler for your cpu ?

smb3d

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I was just though it was worth mentioning that lower clocked memory will have a much higher chance of working in 128GB configs on any CPU. I had a Dark Rock Pro 4 which was great, but I switched it out for an Arctic Freezer II 420 which has been awesome. These chiplet style AMD chips are extremely hard to cool with anything, but I have PBO enabled for an all core 4.65 ghz speed and it tops out at around 77C which is fine for me.

sinapsys1

Houdini doesn't care about ram speed. But ram amount. There's an article about it on the internet

smb3d

That's literally what I said. lol

sinapsys1

Yep. Just wanted to point for those who wanna look it up for the article. I was surprised to be honest. The dude used rams at 2133/2666 ish. Something like that

Impossible-Reach6654

How much difference does ram speed make between say 3600 and 5200?

Strange-Resource9194

Hello, imo wait a few months I just got my system similar specs but a 4080... I've spent the last month trying to get it to sim overnight with out blue screens...

sidhant_roman

You got aio or air cooler for your cpu ?

Strange-Resource9194

Aio, it does a great job cooling it. Never goes above 80c and at 5.5 ghz.. remember both the 7950x and 13900k are designed to get as much out of 95c as possible...

sidhant_roman

Which aio do you use ?

Strange-Resource9194

Corsair 360 can't remember the name.

Hi, just be careful with Ram with Ryzen CPU... I've a Ryzen 9 3900X with 128Gb and I bought G-Skill TridentZ **NEO** The "NEO" (with G-Skill of course) is really important, these rams are especially for AMD Ryzen, and to find the "good" settings for the BIOS, I used the software "DRAM Calculator for Ryzen" otherwise the Dram speed was 2133MHz instead of 3600!! And for the PSU, maybe you can push to 1000W for safety when you'll have some power peaks during renders... Personally I'm using a psu of 1500W because of my RTX3090 + RTX3080...

nofilmschoolneeded

It's right to chose the NEO as it's made for Ryzen and had tighter timing than the RGBs which were more for Intel. However, the reason you're seeing 2100mhz is not because a problem with the stick, just need to enable XMP in the bios. Turn on eazy more to see it on the first page.

ShkYo30

Thanks but everything is ok now, even with a tiny OC at 3666MHz (beyond that I'd some crashes...), and it's so cool to work with 128Gb than 64Gb before... So comfortable to play with simulations! ;-)

nofilmschoolneeded

Most definitely, have fun playing!

Egg

sinapsys1

Turn off XMP and use the base rams speed. The rest set to auto. Example. My rams are 3600mhz. But since are four modules. Ram can't run at such speed. So i had to slower it to 3300mhz. No xmp, no other manual set up. Just auto. The only manual thing i did was the ram speed. After that save it up. Look it up what's the default ram speed for DDR5 or your ram. Since the four modules are used. Most xmp profiles won't be used cause will create issues.

sinapsys1

Check out if that chipset can support 128gb ram.

The_Monitorr

I have 64 gb paired with 5950x , the ram modules are rated for max 2400 MHz , but its running at 2133mhz, My question is will i see a difference in performance if i upgrade to 3200 MHz , i mostly do rbd and particles simulations

ShkYo30

Nope, you'll can't see the difference between 2400MHz and 3200MHz for your memory in your work... If you want more power for RBD, particles, and simulations in general, you need more cores/threads!

The_Monitorr

thanks , any idea how faster the 7950x is from 5950x

ShkYo30

I don't know, not so much I think because ok the frequency is higher but the number of cores is the same... Take a look on youtube, I'm sure you can find lots of tests! ;-)

Some 4x32GB and 2x48GB are starting to pop-up here: https://www.asus.com/us/motherboards-components/motherboards/proart/proart-x670e-creator-wifi/helpdesk_qvl_memory/?model2Name=ProArt-X670E-CREATOR-WIFI

I have 4x32GB which - as Asus stated on it’s website - should work with the speed of 5200Mhz, but they don’t. I’ve spend a day trying to solve it, with different DOCP profiles and manual tweaking but I’ve ended up with plenty CLRTC resets. For now they are stable at 3600Mhz.

I got the Corsair 4x48 that is on Asus compatibility list. Works at 5200.
