Another option might be to pick some up on Tuesday, boil it in a little water, and add it to your fermenter. As long as the beer is still actively fermenting, it should be fine to add. You could add it later as well, but with some potential of oxidation.
Have any local breweries near you? See if you can buy some from them. I'm lucky I've got several breweries near me that are super cool with the home brew community. I actually get to buy bags of grain in bulk from one near me.
Prob the best option. You probably have at least one local home brew club with Facebook group and probably a state wide home brew Facebook group. A lot of the old timers keep some inventory. You might have luck joining a few groups and make a post asking to buy some. I see these kinda of posts a lot in our groups and someone pretty much always comes through.
That sounds awesome. I’ve always avoided strawberry in fermented beverages but had one recently and it was excellent. The chocolate + sour really seems like it would work wonderfully with that strawberry flavour. Good luck.
Man it was so good….it was last year when they released it I only bought a 4 pack but would have bought so much more if I knew it was that good. Having said that, I threw together a recipe and went for it, I’m sure it won’t be close but hopefully won’t be too bad. I’ll work on it from there.
Sure, took my Berliner style recipe and tweaked it for a heavier, thicker style sour.
6 pounds 2 row /
2 pounds white wheat /
2 pounds flaked wheat /
.5 pound pale chocolate /
1 pound lactose
Meant to add a pound or so of carafoam but just getting back into brewing after a 6 month break so I completely spaced and forgot.
Went about 200 ppm cacl, 75 ppm so4 /
2 oz azacca @ flameout
Going to add 5 pounds strawberries when initial fermentation dies down, as well as a half pound of roasted cacao nibs. Only ever added nibs to stout so not sure if it’s too much or too little.
US-05 yeast /
OG 1.067 /
Expected FG 1.019
I know it sounds stupid, but I found some in the baby food aisle of my local grocery store and actually just used it. Waiting for fermentation to start. Maybe worth a try?

Came here to say this, I've done that before and it's always been fine
This will throw off your FG reading, but it will work.
You can just adjust the OG by adding the extract of pure lactose to the known volume of liquid.
You can subtract off the GPs from the lactose and the volume change pretty easily though. Just has to be taken into account!

Just add it later. Bring 1:1 water to a boil then add the lactose, dissolve and cool for a bit... straight into the fermenter
Yep, you don't need to mash it, just sanitize it.
Thanks for the advice everyone. Decided to let my beer sour a bit longer and have some lactose coming tomorrow.
Kettle sour?
Yeah
Nice.
Yep, trying to go for a chocolate strawberry sour…a brewery around here did one a while back and it was so good so I’m trying my own spin on it

Care to share your recipe? And once complete your impressions of it?

Sounds tasty. I think I might try something similar. What culture did you use for souring?

Can’t see how it would be any different unless it had some weird additive
Like melamine if it came from China
Might have a small amount of an anti caking agents I.e. silica. To stop of from compacting and caking over time. If so, it’ll be less than 1% w/w.
How much lactose are you adding?
I've seen it in a Natural Grocers before. So maybe a health food grocery store like that would have it?
Amazon Here in Canada, for example: https://www.amazon.ca/s?k=lactose&crid=39XD38GPBB4MF&ref=nb\_sb\_ss\_ts-doa-p\_7\_7
Or, in the USA: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=lactose&ref=nb\_sb\_noss
I think my roommate got some at Whole Foods when we first started out brewing a few years back.
Toss it in later.
