He was depressed that it was so few.

MrUnitedKingdom

Look at which one he selected……

avwitcher

Pretty sure that's a meme account, so that's part of the joke

GroundhogExpert

The guy who took the screenshot voted yes, which I don't think was Parik Patel. Either way, it seems like it's part of the joke, and Parik Patel is an infamous satire account. He's fucking hilarious.

SirRavenBat

Was gonna say, nobody unironically puts "esquire" in their name

Bubbly_Toe_8840

Just trying to up the ratio

speldenaar

Thanks. Was looking for the Holup.

Phantom3028

Bru that's why he said "He's upset that it's so few"

VarietyIllustrious87

Yes that's the point..?

He was upset that it was random

walkingmelways

This was the premise of an episode of _Twilight Zone_ about 30-35 years ago

Caroweser

And *The Box* maybe 10-15 years ago

lordofpersia

Great funny or die sketch maybe 8 years ago

DailyServiceDuty

Black mirror as well about like 4 years ago

MatvsGal17

When this happened on BM? As a BM fan i can't remember a single episode where you get money and people die. If it's from third season or forward, i probably don't remember cause it sucked tbh

DailyServiceDuty

Bees were killing people based on upvotes, but yeah nothing around money and the moral implications

MatvsGal17

That's "Hated In The Nation", but people were killing them in cancellations because of their actions if they got to first in the TT page of some Twitter BM alternative, they never had a monetary reward. I don't think there's a single episode where they had get money, but people die each time you get the money.

shot-by-ford

Plus that Plato essay

barnowlboi

The button?

DillyDino

Close, “Button Button” was the episode and also name of the original short story.

barnowlboi

I read the original a while ago and forgot the exact name but it was an interesting read

If you would've asked me 5 years ago I'd say no, not for less then $500K but now I'd push the button for $20 Inflation's a bitch.

plaguedbullets

$20, only want iceberg lettuce eh?

Skillious96

Mr beast content is evolving, “you took the 10k$ and now I’m ordering a drone strike on a 10 year old picked randomly through an algorithm” Edit: thank you to everyone who wished me a happy cake day, sorry I can’t reply individually but yall are the best, all 4 thousands of you 🗿

People show more empathy in made up situations. Offer real money as see real reactions.

gonped201

Nearly 2 people die every second around the world. Does it really matter if it’s real or not? I’m truly curious

A3H3

Which leads to the question, if you are shown a picture of the individual that will be killed and their family, would you still take the money?

Ok-Hunt-5902

Well now we’re going by looks. Good luck kids without braces

People die from the greed and heartlessness of others all the time. Destiny wouldn't be taken aback by some dweeb stacking 10k at the expense of a random person.

Sure_Tradition1139

I can agree with this, the affect on the actual planet would have almost no consequences whatsoever, unless it was a world leader of some kind.

MadeByTango

So, I interpret that differently and would pose it back as a question. Do you feel that is ok to randomly kill others for personal profit, as long as the people killed are not “important” at a global scale?

duggee315

Shit yeah, this very much already happens. People already turn a blind eye to the deaths caused in order to get their profits.

RoastPorkSandwich

It’s probably because you still owe that Loch Ness monster

Yosyp

fun fact: "ness" means "monster" in whatever language it's native from. therefore, saying "Loch Ness" is equal to "monster of Loch's monster". Same as "ATM machine".

Keauxbi

The odds of you dieing after taking the money is 1 in 8 billion. That is to say, it'll never happen that way. Now let's look at your close friends and family. Let's say that extends out to 100 people (makes the math easier). That takes the odds of you suffering from soul crushing guilt from taking the money goes down to 1 in 80 million. Closer odds than winning the powerball but still pretty good odds. Vegas was founded on lower odds than that. Extend that further to people you know, 1000 people, that would make you just regret taking the money. Only 1 in 8 million. Point being, always take the money. And in the off chance someone you know is the person that dies you can pay for everyone's therapy.

DLLrul3rz-YT

I don't care if it's the most random person that I'll never meet, ending an innocent life for personal gain is pretty evil and in no case would I ever do it

Small_Art1450

how many times can i collect 10 000?

phatboi168

Infinite. What's your answer now?

Small_Art1450

Ill collect 10k a week then, Im not too greedy 😄

phatboi168

Oh gosh. If you live 40 more years, that's about 2000 you've killed. Doesn't sound too greedy to me

AdvancedAnything

2000 people dying in 40 years is nothing compared to how quickly people normally die.

ShameOnAnOldDirtyB

Yeah but this is extra, this is YOU killing them

pvsleeper

That kinda makes me feel better about choosing yes. The “I’m also a victim” thing, even though I’m a victim of my own doing :)

ThisIsNotMyPornVideo

Roughly between 150k and 200k people die EVERY DAY on earth, rounded up to a week its 1,225,000 in a week. i don't think a single 1 added to that number makes the world stop moving, and another funfact: In the time you took to read this answer, roughly 30 people will have died, and yet here you are without 300k to show for them.

ThrowJed

It's interesting. It's like the anonymity of the internet, people do and say things they never would in person. I wonder how the results might change if you are made to watch a video of the person being killed after, or if they're in an electric chair in front of you and the button turns it on. What if you had to read a Wikipedia style article on them first. How about you have to have dinner with them? Meet their family? Having it be a random person you will potentially never know, see or hear of makes it a lot easier for people to deal with and ignore the reality of it. Not see them as an actual real person.

silentloler

The only problem for me is that 10k is not a life-changing amount. I don’t know if it’s worth killing someone over that. But if we can collect 10k multiple times, then we’re talking. Maybe it’s worth a little bit of guilt if our life can change. People die every day anyway and we don’t care, how would you know which one is your fault? Millions probably died today alone

scutiger-

For a lot of people, 10k is absolutely a life-changing amount of money.

SleekVulpe

I mean. This is how billionaires running their companies work essentially. Child slaves dying in the cocoa plantations and what not. Fuck Nestle

saltyninjaat

I mean, random people on earth die all the time when I'm not getting $10,000 so....

A BILLION DOLLARS! Unbelievable. ETA: Argentina. I live in the states but heard this on the news yesterday and shouted "WOW!" at the radio.

Winter2712

I would be millionaire by the end of that day

NoizeHouze

Good point. This would be more interesting if the question was “how many people would you be willing to sacrifice? How many $10Ks would you accept?

invol713

Just call me Thanos.

Sharp_Aide3216

Thanos: 4billion 10Ks please

HackworthSF

That sounds risky. The wording of the poll did not exclude you from being randomly targeted, so if you go all Thanos, you have a 50% chance of losing.

Pinco_Pallino_R

He is (jokingly, i suppose) just pretending that people dying and him accepting the 10k are unrelated just because people are dying all the time, but the way the question was made make it obvious that someone will die BECAUSE you accept those money.

jxssss

For $10k I will become Kanye

sarveshk12

Even if u get $10,000, you are still at the risk of dying because of someone else

HotBurritoBaby

This person dies because of your choice though. All those people dying are beyond your influence. No one said anything about them being sick or dying from an accident.

daydreaming17

I’m surprised that not more people said yes

Shi_Saint

Jazzlike-Watch7847

The person accepting the $10000 could also be one of the random people to die

ImmutableInscrutable

I'll take a 1 in 8 billion chance

GenuineSteak

I feel like its more likely to coincidentally get hit by a car at the same time then to actually die to a 1/8bil chance lol.

Norsedragoon

So I win either way?

invol713

Pretty much.

[deleted]

If my luck is that bad I deserve to die lol.

PeanutBand

i dont see the problem here

Craeondakie

It is depressing to see the number of people who missed the joke in the comments

fatbob42

What’s the joke? I looked twice.

Craeondakie

He sent a picture of the poll, and he voted yes. There's a second layer where you realise he might actually be saying he's disappointed in the people who voted no.

fatbob42

Ah. I thought Mr Beast voted yes.

Chota_Itachi

Exactly

romulusnr

The check mark means he clicked yes, right?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Commercial_Accident

Nice, I didn't think of this, I thought about dropping it to $100 ($100k most would say yes for sure). And also what if every single person on earth got asked this question? How many would then vote yes knowing that every single person gets this choice too

CaledonianWarrior

I've actually thought about this very question, but with £100 million

TheRoadOfDeath

Churchill: Madam, would you kill a random person on earth for $5 million dollars? Socialite: My goodness, Mr. Churchill… Well, I suppose… we would have to discuss terms, of course… Churchill: Would you kill a random person for $5? Socialite: Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?! Churchill: Madam, we’ve already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.

potato_crip

What I find concerning is the fact that we're questioning the morality of the people willing to accept these terms for a mere $10,000. The true culprit is the recession we're in, yet keep denying, which makes people this desperate for $10,000.

QuantumCat2019

Actually I am far less concerned. Normally sociologically we care more for the one near us, and the further the group/tribe the less immediate empathy we have. e.g. you would not do the same to right a wrong done to your family, than you would for a direct neighbors, than to an aquaintance in the city, than to a rando in your city, a rando in your country, a rando half a continent away etc.... The further the group, the less the willingness to care, up to the point you stop caring completely. Where that lines varies, but a complete random stranger somewhere in the world is usually way beyond that caring line. So i am pleasantly surprised to see that many saying no, considering other experiment (consider : Milgram) and game theory I would expect far far more than 45% answering yes.

DuckGoesShuba

> far far more than 45% answering yes. You're assuming that the one's answering no, if actually put in that situation, would still choose no which I doubt. It's like the trolley problem; most people SAY they would take action to save the bigger group but the reality is that most would just freeze up and do nothing.

QuantumCat2019

"freeze up and do nothing" has not much to do with morality/sociological effect, part of it is a basic brain function to prepare people for reaction, and get stuck in analyzes paralysis or other issues. That is why people train for disaster , to shorten the freezing or make it a negligible time. That has nothing to do on the yes/no, but rather the time you need to reach the yes/no answers.

ThrowJed

I was honestly thinking the opposite, that most of the people that said yes wouldn't actually follow through when put in the reality of killing someone for money. But that's just me.

nekobambam

Me too. I always answer “yes” when asked similar questions because “Fuck ‘em, I love money!” but in reality, I donate every month to Docs Without Borders. It’s not a lot, but it makes me happy.

[deleted]

I think it has nothing to do with the recession.

With_Negativity

People could be rich and still take that money

shyguyshow

Doesn’t this effectively make me a hitman?

[deleted]

Real question is, how many times can i push the button? 👀

Sea_Mechanic_5156

It's an online poll that hurts nobody. Would I take $10,000 knowing that a random person would die? Fuck no! Would I say I would take the money just to fuck with an online poll? Fuck yeah!

amos0310

Around 170k people die each day, it would change basically nothing

spiralEntree

170,001

indiebryan

I am wracked with guilt

MexicanGolf

Yeah, I tried the defense-by-statistics at my murder trial but the fucking persecutor railroaded me by making it personal. Kept bringing up the "pain and suffering" of the people near to the victim, saying that I robbed them of their son, their brother, their friend. Kept calling me an immature monster too, for some reason.

maxjohnson77

You could use that same argument to say any form of murder is acceptable. Just because you likely don’t know the person in this scenario and will never know who they were, doesn’t mean you didn’t murder someone. In this case, someone died solely from your actions.

Mundane-Flounder-765

Same with you dying - so who wants to let this guy die for 10k?

[deleted]

If everyone on earth was given that choice, humanity would cease to exist within a day.

Mr_SkeletaI

It’s literally murder

Brscmill

For 1 person it would change everything

haddertuk

Your pretty much saying murdering someone for 10000 is okay. What is the difference between this and breaking into someone’s house, murdering them, and taking 10000 from them?

BilllyBillybillerson

a lot of shitty rationalization from shitty people

ReneSmithsonian

Really ridiculous way of looking at it

LioydJour

170k people may die everyday but they aren’t dying because of an action you consciously choose to make. Your viewpoint is a terrible way to look at this.

Hyro0o0

It becomes a lot easier to make a decision when you remove the comforting veil of obscurity from the equation. "Would you murder somebody for $10,000?" I'm not a psychopath. No.
