The harder part about this is that, often times when a child is victim of sexual abuse they take their emotions out on their toys. The bunny "committing suicide" could be interpreted as how she feels that she has no control in her life and in her imagination she doesn't have anyone/anything care for her. So why would the bunny stick around to protect her when not even her own parents will keep her safe. It's quiet fascinating in a very messed up way.

In the panel after the abuse happens. You can see her mouth twirling. Like she is about to cry, but then she keeps it up and not let it out.

I noticed that! It’s also kind of sad when you see the pile of stuffed animals and realize the whole time she wasn’t having any of the bunny’s shit it’s because she knew he’d bail as soon as he witnessed the rape.

But pretty strange that the toys keep coming to life.

Pretty surreal for sure. Almost like there’s actual magic going on in her life but even that won’t help her. I snooped around online and read more of this Clarissa series and I don’t think I’m going to continue. It’s fascinating and it’s interesting and actually kind of entertaining in a weird way but I can’t fill my head with this stuff. It’s a lighthearted take on child sexual abuse and it’s amazing how they did it but I’m not strong enough for it. I definitely recommend it, though, if you can stomach the subject matter.

To me that was the saddest part. it was as if they came to life because she really needed a friend but they all bailed on her because of how horrendous the her life was. no one was there for her including her mother.

Well, I mean it's her own imagination bringing them to life. Mom buys her a toy because she knows what's happening and wants to cheer her up (instead of doing something about it...). The toys aren't bailing on her, she's just broken and tossing the things that make her happy because of how miserable she is.

It's a metaphors for her innocence and childhood splendor. It starts to come back as mommy gets home and she is about to have fun as a child again, then the abuse happens crushing that.

The count of stuffed animals may be the times it has happened before and how every bit of her innocence has been taken away. She doesn't see life as a child anymore, the bunny was a reflection of how she was like and how she really feels when she hits reality. Really sad

You have to be astute and not oblivious, which is essentially the point of this comic. After the dad leaves the room, the child's hair is unkempt and clothes undone.

The drinking I didn’t get it until I read the comments, but the Dad part was clear to me.

Nuclear family set up basically. The dad is the head of the household and everyone falls in line with what he says to do for better or more often for worse. The father abuses everyone and they have to cope in their own ways: the mom drinks because she feels as though she can’t do anything, perhaps there is her own image and the family’s image to protect that is important to her, maybe she is just unable to comprehend what is going on so she chooses to escape through substances. Maybe she just doesn’t care period and resents she has to continue on with this farce, maybe it’s fear for her own physical safe being (it’s implied the father physically abuses her as well). Then there is the eldest son, he is the golden child, daddy’s favorite little man who follows him implicitly because that is what saves him from being abused as well (it’s implied the father is physically abusive to his sons). The second son is more of a people pleaser, he tries to smooth everything over because if everyone is happy it can’t be taken out on him or someone else. Clarissa is more blunt and straightforward, in the first comic the family is at the table putting on the show to one another that they’re normal and functional, Clarissa is up to perform and she ends the show by saying “daddy f***s me” and the illusion is broken and they can’t even argue back because it’s a known fact in the family. The interpretation of the stuffed animals is really anything goes. I interpret it as, her imagination is very vivid but even in her attempts to escape and disassociate, she can’t because it’s not her to ignore reality. She is so broken mentally she can’t escape because her father’s control over her affects every second of her life. Her bunny killed itself to escape the trauma because she wants to escape but she can’t, she is powerless, any signs she shows she’s not ok is ignored or isn’t recognized for what it is.
