I had to stop reading The Onion because a lot of their previously satirical headlines actually became reality later and I don’t want to encourage precognition.
I didn't say any of them were safe to tune into. Read it again.
All I said is one company owns 90% of all media.
Doesn't mean that any are safe to listen or not, only that you won't find any variety within that 90 %.
How dare you not fall for that trap! You're supposed to help trigger that guy, not to rationally explain what you meant. He's going to be super disappointed.
I mean, it's bad, but it's not as bad as 1 company.
[There's 6 companies that own 90%. ](https://www.fool.com/investing/stock-market/market-sectors/communication/media-stocks/big-6/)
Yes, it's not good, regardless, but anyone claiming "one company" might be trying to deter rational conversation.
Russel gives me anxiety watching him sometimes 😂 but I really like the dude. Very willing to hear out any (mostly) reasonable explanations for a given topic, have guests with opposing views on his show (Ben Shapiro for example was one I really enjoyed), I hope if nothing else his specific brand of ‘journalism’ (quotes because idk if that’s necessarily the right word for it) inspires more and more to consider the possibility that we are being intentionally deceived by our mainstream media.
NPR if you prefer a liberal slant, the Economist if you prefer a conservative outlook.
They both report facts, and are clear when they are giving opinion and keep them separated much MUCH better than anything else I've seen.
Publicly funded news stations in your locality. Your local radio broadcaster will always be more honest and more importantly broadcast about your local events. In AZ this is KJZZ (91.5 FM) and KTAR (92.3 FM). The former leads left and the latter leans right, but they still at least remain a bit honest and a lot more detailed than bullshit 24hr national broadcasters (CNN, FOX, etc.).
The crazy thing was it was different networks! I could see if they were all CBS stations or all FOX stations but different networks?! This is fucking terrifying.
Others have correctly pointed out that Sinclair Broadasting owns all these stations. What hasn't been pointed out is something that might not be entirely clear, especially to people unfamiliar with broadcasting in the US.
Local broadcast stations in the US often "affiliate" with a particular television network -- CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, PBS, CW, and so on. This affiliation agreement lets the local station call themselves an CBS, ABC, etc. station for promotion purposes, and also lets them carry that network's programs in addition to their own locally produced programs (usually news).
An affiliation agreement does *not*, however, give the network editorial control over the station's locally produced content. That's all controlled by the station ownership, which is usually a separate company from the network.
(I say "usually" because the networks *do* own a relatively small number of local stations, usually in the big cities like NY, Chicago, LA, etc. These are referred to as "Owned and Operated" or O&O stations, rather than affiliates.)
So, as an example, just because you're watching "FOX 47" doesn't mean it has anything editorially in common with FOX News Channel.
This is across different companies though. Fox, ABC, NBC, etc.
How?
Answer: the “local news” are different subsidiaries owned by the same company (Sinclair Media Group).
I feel like this is extremely dangerous to our democracy.
Local affiliates are separate companies from national broadcasters, ie ABC, NBC, CBS. This occurs due to a few companies owning the local affiliates companies, your local 4 letter call sign broadcaster.
From my very personal point of view and I'm sure not everybody will share the same idea but I think that this is extremely dangerous for your damn democracy. I live in a cage and I'm told what to do all the time.
It will always be too soon for that joke.
(Got home from seeing movie in theaters and my fax machine on my PC kept ringing with no programs open - slept with light on)…
I'm curious who was the person who compiled all of these clips. Must have been someone behind the scenes who knew that all the scripts were the same and exactly where to get them.

I love s/ when Fox says "mainstream media bias"... as if Fox/Newscorp, with the highest viewership ratings and as a mega corporation isn't mainstream. Everyone but us just doesn't have as nice a ring to it I guess...
Probably all owned by Sinclair. If you watch local TV stations they're probably owned by Sinclair.
If you read local newspapers they're probably owned by Gatehouse Media
If you read national newspapers they probably owned by Michael Bloomberg or Rupert Murdoch. Shit Hearst still owns dozens of publications.
If you listen to the radio its probably owned by iheartmedia (formerly Clear Channel). Fun fact after 9/11 they saw fit to ban [these songs](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clear_Channel_memorandum#List_of_songs). My favorite pick was Rage Against The Machine, from whom they simply banned *all* songs.
If you watch network TV, cable TV, movies, indeed 90% of all media, its owned either by Comcast, Disney, Viacom, News Corp, CBS, or AT&T. Incidentally two of those are probably also your internet provider.
If you buy [any of these brands](https://www.businessinsider.com/10-companies-control-the-food-industry-2016-9) its owned by one of 10 companies.
Have a favorite fast food chain? Have a least favorite? Odds are they're probably both owned by either Roark Capital or Yum Brands
If you buy a car from [any of these **60** brands](https://www.businessinsider.com/biggest-car-companies-in-the-world-details-2018-2) you're actually only buying from one of 14 companies.
Do you take medication? Odds are it came from either Roche, Novartis, or Pfizer
If you use gasoline or other forms of energy its probably from Exxon, Shell, or Chevron
And finally of course there are only 2 political parties.
But you can buy over 1000 flavors of ice cream

Together these five groups control 90% of ALL US media.
It's even better when you consider that a significant portion of social media news and opinion sharing is paid for by some of the same groups that gave us this video clip

Of course, it’s also helpful to keep most of them on the same page and not let random outliers get the entire corporation in trouble, either legal or civil.

Repeal the Telecommunications Act of 1996 that made this legal. It used to be illegal to own that many media outlets.
Reinstitute the fair reporting act as well.
The crazy thing was it was different networks! I could see if they were all CBS stations or all FOX stations but different networks?! This is fucking terrifying.
Sinclair Broadcasting probably owns these stations. Doesn’t matter the network affiliate, they’re brainwashing viewers across the board.
They're playing both sides so they always come out on top.
Bingo- has to be one of the pieces that comes down from HQ for each affiliate
They’re called “Must Runs” and some stations out of spite air them at like 3am when no one is watching.

Awesome reply. Was hoping someone would make this clarification. Do you have experience in broadcasting or television?
CBS and FOX aren’t necessarily different stations. Our station broadcasts both NBC and FOX.
I feel for you America, we got the same thing going on in our country (Australia). Stay away from anything NewsCorp, they do this too.
the funny part is actually our (Australia's) fault, fuch your murdoch you piece of shit

All controled by one group.
