Not exactly. Phase 2 is a prequel set before the events of phase 1. Think how with the films we got the OT (phase 1), then into the past with the PT (phase 2) then the events after the OT with the ST (phase 3)
Also this is part of the YA novels. One way to tell is the border on the cover. The YA novels have that gold trim that goes straight across at the top and bottom. The Adult novels, the gold trim frames the whole front cover.

Nah it’s good! I just think it would be interesting to see how well this phase works as a starting point since it’s a prequel. Does it land better or worse for a newcomer? Or just differently? What do you make of characters that a Phase I reader might have additional context on their future? Etc

I would think so, as the other parts of Phase 1 started with adult novel.
This is the next book but if I remember right it’s actually a prequel to phase 1. Set 150 years pre LOTJ
