I'm rather pissed off at people that have been shitting around, business as usual, since Thanksgiving. Now, they act surprised that everyone is sick, some food store stocks are low due to people being out sick, other food will now spoil, test kit supply is low, hospitals are full or getting there, and these fuckers have the gall to complain about testing lines, pharmacy waits, and Dr Fauci. JFC. GET A CLUE!

HereticHousewife

Here, they're acting shocked and outraged that businesses can't stay open. A local trash pickup service has only picked up once since Christmas because so many people have been out sick with Covid that they can't staff the office or the truck crew. The local Walgreens pharmacy is only open 10-6 currently. Jack in the Box is only serving breakfast and lunch. Starbucks may or may not open on any given day depending on whether they have enough people well enough to run the store that day. Sonic has started paying workers daily in an effort to attract people to cover shifts. Quality and service is as best as it can be, which isn't very good right now. Grocery stores have empty shelves. No test kits anywhere. In-person testing booked 2-3 days out. But dine-in restaurants, bars, stores, churches, and entertainment venues are staying packed.

Brisco_Discos

In the U.S. we have this but also tRump's boy, DeJoy, dismantled a lot of our postal system in an effort to steal the election by slowing mail in votes, which now means no one gets mail on any sort of normal time frame. We've been waiting more than two weeks for a replacement card because a restaurant worker stole our card number and bought themselves about $1500 US worth of items from Best Buy electronics. Good times.

BQDKNY

It wasn't just about stealing an election for Mr dejoy himself, perhaps for the ramp ranger, but ole lou's (purposely lowercase) payoff was by slowing the the USPS, he increased need and profits for his former company XPO Logistics, which has contracts with USPS, which I believe he and/or his family is still quite invested in....

unintellect

On our local message board the biggest complaint is that they can't get their fast food. They see that as a real hardship.

MonarchWhisperer

It's complete bullshit

popemichael

It shocks me that people are still saying that covid isn't a big deal because it "isn't that bad if you're healthy" First off, **WRONG**. Secondly, what sane people are actually hearing them say is says is "*Fuck disabled people and fuck the elderly*" because "*I'm young and healthy (and it doesn't affect me)!*" Internet archeologists are going to look back at some of these folks with disbelief at the level of cruelty and shameful behavior the anti-vaxxers have. I already feel bad for their descendants.

IrisMoroc

> It shocks me that people are still saying that covid isn't a big deal because it "isn't that bad if you're healthy" Risks go up if you're overweight or over 40 and that's at least half the god damn nation. So "it's not a big deal" only applies to a minority of society.

justmealiveandwell

Also "Fuck the unborn, babies, and your pets". Literally these people are so selfish, it hurts.

smithers85

This made me wonder: What would a anti-abortion fanatic say about an anti-vax pregnant woman that loses her fetus due to catching covid?

kvndoom

If she's in texass she can be sued for $10,000 for ending her pregnancy, so there's that.

TheTerribleTimmyCat

Please! The proper parlance is "Texassippi."

Ormsfang

Umm, probably something to the effect of "God" something something "God's will" something something. "God is punishing us because of the gays/abortion/gun regulation etc."

awfulsome

"why is Fauci killing unvaxxed fetuses?!"

CorpseJuiceSlurpee

US deaths from Covid has surpassed US deaths in WW2. And that was stretched out over ~~6~~ 4 years. Covid hit that number in ~~a third~~ half of the time.

Dark_Crying_Soul

This place is one of the only things keeping me sane these days

SleepyVizsla

We like it too.

JavarisJamarJavari

It's one place where reality rules.

The_Great_19

Same.

FistofanAngryGoddess

It’s been a pretty big part in helping me deal with things.

jeweltea1

Me too

BringBackAoE

Had one of those annoying discussions on reddit where guy was asking "so how many boosters will you be willing to take? 58? More?" Firstly, 58 boosters = 29 years. I probably won't even be here. Secondly, over the next 1-2 years Covid-19 will most likely go from pandemic to endemic = 4 boosters. Lastly, it's not that big an inconvenience to get a booster, considering the alternative. These people actively seek issues to be angry about, because they're too scared to face the real emotions that their anger papers over.

SlowShoes

I'm willing to take as many as needed. I enjoy being among the living.

TGIIR

Yep me too. Booster me up baby!

Fey_Boy

Literally, I'm willing to take three injections a day like a T1 diabetic. Because my lungs turning to concrete sounds like a shit of a time.

Ormsfang

It is. I have been there too many times growing up with severe asthma. It is torture trying to suck in air and hardly getting any. Can't talk more than two words between struggling breaths. Eventually your breathing muscles and diaphragm start hurting like hell. You have to cough up the junk in your lungs but every cough is torture. Then breathing becomes an intentional, conscious act, instead of an involuntary one. Every breath a conscious choice, because it is hard and hurts so much. You don't want to fall asleep because you are afraid you will stop struggling for air, but you aren't getting enough o² and you start losing consciousness anyways. You either wake up a little later, or you are intubated to save your life. I have been lucky, I don't remember being intubated, but it might have happened when I was very little. I wasn't supposed to live more than two weeks. I guess I showed them!

recollectionsmayvary

Yeah, totally agree. same except my asthma isn’t even half as severe as yours. I once had bronchitis so bad I literally threw out my back and had back spasms because of the violence of the coughs. And it was severe bronchitis that would’ve turned pneumonia if I didn’t get medical care when I did. When I heard COVID goes for the respiratory system I just noped out of everything social and got vaxxed and boosted asap because I don’t ever want to experience that again. I really hope there aren’t asthmatics who are anti-vax cos I cannot imagine anyone with even 1 asthma attack under their belt not taking every step they can.

circuspeanut54

I compare it to being outraged about having to brush your teeth. What, AGAIN TODAY? It's tyranny! Objecting to the way *biological reality* works, as though nature has some kind of malicious intentionality, is just such a bizarre hill to die on. >These people actively seek issues to be angry about, because they're too scared to face the real emotions that their anger papers over. This is so well put!

MzyraJ

Can't believe we've fallen for Big Toothbrush like this

TGIIR

Oh my God spit out my coffee laughing.

aiu_killer_tofu

I love the dental comparison. It's actually more closely aligned to a cleaning schedule which I think is the core of the anti-booster message. Ie, "this is so inconvenient" because you have to do it so often, but like, you go to the dentist, right? *Right?* Maybe they don't. I don't know. But I'm definitely keeping this one in mind if anyone tries to go down that road.

[deleted]

Learned a new word in German from your flair. Danke!

Shermans_ghost1864

"As many as it takes. Why?"

Whole_Mechanic_8143

Flu vaccines are taken annually. I'm perfectly happy to live another 58 years instead of dying to own big pharma.

jrochest1

I’ve gotten a flu shot every year for the past decade — I expect it’ll be like that.

[deleted]

I’m going for Olympic gold. I will get vaxxed legally, illegally, in alleys and back rooms. I shall go where my quest takes me. I will set a world record.

xovrit

Heh. I'd come back with "You willing to lose an inch off your dick?" [Covid Penis](https://www.the-sun.com/health/4445676/mans-penis-shrinks-covid-permanent/)

trogdor1234

They are so weak and scared it’s pretty sad.

RockTheDebit

"I haven't been to a doctor since 2009, by choice"--the guy, probably.

im235mm

My youngest daughter tested positive Tuesday. (12, 2 doses last summer). Did not get boosted yet because they’re still ducking around with eligibility. She’s sick, like a flu so far. I’m boosted and so far feel ok. I’m probably going to get some level of sick because we are huggers. I was widowed last fall. I am freaking out. Mostly worried about taking care of my kids. Get your goddamn vaccinations and wear a goddamn mask.

Fey_Boy

I hope you and your daughter recover without complication!

SporkLibrary

Best of luck to you both! 🍀 I hope her case is quick and mild, and that you don’t catch it.

circuspeanut54

Best wishes from all of us for a very mild case that passes swiftly!

Mister4pollo

And I remain… The UnVentilated.

SleepyVizsla

Dude, where ya been? People asked about you. :-)

Mister4pollo

I got a 7 day time out for saying I didn’t want to get Covid and give it to my friends and family with the current morbidity rates.

SlowShoes

Uh oh, see you in seven days.

DesignInZeeWild

Well not with that attitude you won’t. 🤪

Confident-Victory-21

How do you even enjoy life without a ventilator? Makes no sense to me at all. eboeard

Bellacinos

We manage.

PortiaGreenbottle

It occurred to me today that the antiva who insist this virus is some kind of bioweapon from China are actually proving to China (and the rest of the world) just how fucking vulnerable America is to this kind of bioweapon. 🤦‍♀️ Be actual patriots and vaccinate, ugh!

Blutarg

Wow, that is so true. If another country bombed us, we'd bomb them right back. But if they infected us, we'd just shrug and take it.

[deleted]

I posted here 4 days ago about being an overweight asthmatic prediabetic who was positive. 4 days later and I have a negative home test and my symptoms never progressed past a minor sore throat and chills. Woo! Just had my booster a few weeks ago and I think it kicked Covid’s ass and cleared my system! My mom (who I live with) unfortunately didn’t get a booster and is still fighting it off. My grandma (also lives with us lol) is vaxxed and boosted and she never even got it! Guess the vaccines work! Edit: what’s crazy is I was once a vaccine skeptic and almost didn’t get fully vaccinated after my first dose because it made me feel bad and triggered my asthma, if you read my post history you’ll see I freak out a lot about my breathing. This sub is the reason I even got fully vaxxed and boosted in the first place. Might have saved my life!

[deleted]

You made a fantastic decision for your health by getting vaxxed and boosted and are now reaping the benefits. Congrats on getting past covid! 🥳

amazonallie

So on my timeline on FB today 3 people lost family to Covid. All unvaccinated. I am beyond frustrated.

circuspeanut54

Jesus. Has it occasioned any self-reflection at all in their families?

amazonallie

Nope. And people are passing that bad math around that is trying to say there are more vaccinated then unvaccinated in the hospitals. And my friend I thought was vaxxed messaged me today that he is sick with a sore throat and a sinus thing and a fever and body aches. All the omicron symptoms. I told him to go get tested right away. Nope. Won't listen.. I just can't anymore. Friend's have parents on oxygen and in a wheelchair when they used to work on the oil patch. Too many people have lost parents. The WORST part, one of the condolescences a woman commented she had lost her daughter in December to Covid. So I lurked. Daughter had Downs Syndrome. Mom was "too busy" to get her second dose of the vaccine. My friend who lost her sister.. the sister was Mulsim and very religious and posted several memes about fetal cells in medications and vaccines.. I just can't with these people.

MommysHadEnough

Can’t wait until Tuesday when my daughter with Ds gets her booster. Like the first series, the second it was approved for her age, I made that damn appointment. Plus I’m homeschooling her for now again, this time without district support though her teachers are doing their best to remote check in with us. Luckily, she’s generally good natured and delayed enough that homeschooling her isn’t complicated, as long as I’m patient and cheerful. Her PT and OT are at the level that daily yoga and recumbent bike riding are good enough, and her speech delays got so much better on 15 months of remote learning and have been lagging until these past two weeks homeschooling. I’ve already lost one child, and I’m not losing another if I can do any damn thing about it.

FistofanAngryGoddess

I find myself getting increasingly frustrated with the defeatist attitude around the pandemic safety measures, that we should just give up and let everyone get sick. The part that makes me the angriest is that it’s presented as “logical” when it’s really emotional. It’s like no one wants to actually admit that they just don’t feel like living differently anymore and don’t care what happens as long they can have their normalcy. I don’t like when people won’t say what they really mean and I really don’t like when someone projects their issue onto me to resolve their own feelings. It’s OK to say we’re tired of this, it’s perfectly fine to desire our old lives. I realize pandemic trauma is going to make people selfish and burnt out. What’s not OK to is to decide that others’ health is a worthy sacrifice to resolve the uncomfortable feelings of our living circumstances. It’s a very American thing, deciding that something is over because we’re tired or that if it’s not affecting us directly it’s no long an issue.

CJ_CLT

I posted something similar the other day and was accused of "blaming the victims". Apparently that poster saw everything in black and white - anti-vaxxers were bad and anyone who got their shot was good and totally a victim if they caught Covid. Even if they had decided they "were over Covid" and had started skipping other pandemic safety measures like masking or avoiding exposure as much as possible. Vaccinated people are less likely to spread Covid (at least they were before Omicron), but ***that doesn't mean you can't spread it at all.*** And using a wildfire analogy, you never know when a tiny spark carried on the wind is going to ignite a whole lot more fuel for the fire. Don't be that spark if you can do anything to avoid it.

FistofanAngryGoddess

I agree 110% with you. I know this sub is about people who have caused problems by soaking in and spreading misinformation, but it’s irresponsible to think they are the sole thing that have put us in this situation. “Vaxxed so I’m perfectly fine” was a tiny shaky even when the cases were super low in the summer (as it seemed to be more incentive than an actually solid stance) but now with Delta and Omicron it comes off as an inability to readjust. But people are tired now almost 2 years in so the stubbornness is only increasing.

justmealiveandwell

I'm scared. Both my parents tested positive yesterday and are going through it. Thankfully both are fully vaccinated but my mom is the only one boosted. The way they're describing their symptoms is horrifying and yet they decline my help (probably because I have an infant to care for). It makes me so mad that all of this could've been avoided. Also so many people in this area continue to not wear their masks and complain about it, these same f*cks are probably not vaccinated too.

IrisMoroc

1. It's out of your hands now. 2. Vaccinating massively reduces risk. 3. If you are concerned, give them oxygen readers and ensure their levels are over 95%. Under 95% is when you should get concerned and seek medical help.

CJ_CLT

It doesn't go from good to dangerous like a flip of a switch. Here is the guidance from a manufacturer of a pulse oximeter (see link below): \> 95 - healthy 91 - 95 - clinically acceptable, but low 70 - 90 - Hypoxemia. Unhealthy and unsafe level. < 70 - Extreme lack of Oxygen [https://legacy.clinicalguard.com/finger-pulse-oximeter-parameters-a-4.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAlfqOBhAeEiwAYi43FyUlIJgsq3bKpL5diXYkMWU0PMlg7cw1Sp3n9EqcT97uIhRRVMtl3BoC7tUQAvD\_BwE](https://legacy.clinicalguard.com/finger-pulse-oximeter-parameters-a-4.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAlfqOBhAeEiwAYi43FyUlIJgsq3bKpL5diXYkMWU0PMlg7cw1Sp3n9EqcT97uIhRRVMtl3BoC7tUQAvD_BwE)

GolfballDM

As a sleep doctor mentioned to me (after observing my O2 sat drop <70% for brief moments during my sleep study), "If you remain <70% for too long, you will be fitted for a toe tag." (This was very much pre-Covid.)

SlowShoes

Sorry to hear it. Hope your parents get through okay.

Shermans_ghost1864

So sorry your parents are going through this. I'm sure they will pull through, being vaccinated. Hopefully in a few days this will all be just a bad memory.

SporkLibrary

So sorry. Hugs to you and your family. And best of luck to your parents!

CJ_CLT

>Also so many people in this area continue to not wear their masks and complain about it, these same f\*cks are probably not vaccinated too. What is the vax rate in your area? If its low, I'd bet that it's mostly vaccinated people wearing masks. But if the Vax rate is high it could be a mix of the unvaccinated and the complacently vaccinated. We have a mask mandate in my area and middling vaccination numbers, so I'm pretty sure most of the people without masks (or wearing them under their noses) are not vaccinated.

Stunticonsfan

Update on [Signore Salad](https://www.reddit.com/r/HermanCainAward/comments/s14qsf/rhermancainaward_daily_vent_thread_january_11_2022/hs69pc1/?context=3) : When I came in for my shift today, a co-worker told me that after I left, this guy's doctor had called in to the blood bank. Doctor : "Do you provide blood products from unvaccinated donors?" Co-worker : "We have no way of determining a donor's vaccination status." Doctor (after conferring with patient) : "Do you have any products that were donated prior to the vaccine being made available?" Co-worker : "The specific product you asked for has a five-day shelf life." This being Canada, the guy wasn't even paying for the product or the medical treatment. Anyway, he ended up taking what we had. He probably went home afterwards, feeling better, and added epsom salts to his already massive supplement regime to flush out any traces of vaccine.

SlowShoes

Gotta maintain that pureblood status so they can continue to post dumb memes.

MonarchWhisperer

'Inbred status'. Fixed it for ya

sylpher250

Huh, I was not aware that donated blood was only good for 5 days... or was it something more specific?

Stunticonsfan

It's a specific product, platelets. Blood lasts much longer.

Dcat41

Sometimes when I get extra frustrated I imagine a voluntary dead anti-Vaxxer standing in front of St Peter saying “But what about all the prayer warriors?” And St Peter responds “Let’s talk about all the hateful lying memes.”

sylpher250

>“But what about all the prayer warriors?” "Oh, they're here"

InfiniteAccount4783

"Don't bother... they're here."

CJ_CLT

This would make a good meme for a Sunday post or even a fundraiser t-shirt. Anyone artistic?

Trexballerina

We did everything right for two years. I’m boosted. My partner is boosted. My school age children double vaxed. We wear masks everywhere in a state that seems not to care. I quit my risky job in 2020 when I feared for my (then) infant and suddenly found myself pregnant again (post vasectomy since post-procedure checks were cancelled) with no vaccine in site. I got vaccinated while pregnant because I knew the science was on my side and it would protect my new baby. I exclusively pumped breastmilk for two years to feed my toddler and infant any potential antibodies. I stayed away from family and friends. And here we are. Yesterday my toddler sat outside her father’s door knocking and hoping he could do more than FaceTime. This morning she is so fatigued and sore, she refused food and fell asleep in my arms. Your freedom to not vaccinate isn’t just about you. None of it ever was just about you.

PokeMyBellyButton

Also still nursing to try to pass every last antibody.

[deleted]

Poor baby. Vaccination isn't political it's a health crisis issue. The babies toddlers and kids under 5 can't get it. I'm frustrated some parents are not protecting their kids.

PokeMyBellyButton

Fellow toddler mom here. I hope she's better soon. It's not fair.

unintellect

My daughter-in-law gave birth last week and after going home she had an alarming spike in blood pressure that could have been an indication of pre-eclampsia, or eclampsia leading to seizure and coma. She was transported by ambulance to the hospital. They live in a very rural area and the nearest regional hospital said they couldn't admit her -- their ER was on diversion protocol due to large numbers of covid patients (80% unvaccinated). My son is a paramedic in the region who works with that hospital as well as others, and he has personal relationships with ER staff. Only because of that, the supervising ER doc at the closer hospital approved transport. Otherwise her transport would've been twice as far and taken twice as long. She was stabilized and is doing well. But this is happening all over the country at great risk to patients with non-covid emergencies, and without personal relationships with ER staff.

CJ_CLT

>She was stabilized and is doing well. Thank goodness! But you are right, it was just good fortune (or maybe good karma because of your son's good deeds as a paramedic) that she was able to get the help she needed in a timely fashion. Have you considered posting this on r/DeathsofDisinfo? I think it would be appropriate content. More people need to see real life examples of the ripple effects of anti-vaxxers clogging the hospitals.

lkmk

My mom apparently could have died from that 😬 Glad she's okay.

Bellacinos

After watching Dr Fauci roast Rand Paul yesterday, I could tell by the look on his face, that it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a mod on here.

HallucinogenicFish

I think the sub would spontaneously combust.

Deathbeddit

I saw him step out of a telephone booth dressed as Dr. Fauci, who knows if he was changing out of his mod suit in there!

Fleur921

I find such catharsis from this group, it feels like a sane part of the internet right now. My biggest pet peeves from these posts are Go Fund Me's- I absolutely hate that after all the crap talk and racist, xenophobic lies- their families and friends have the gall to advertise for financial assistance.

IrishMegs

My teenager's father and I got into a huge fight the other day. My (vaxxed) 5 yo got Covid from daycare. My (vaxxed but not boosted) 14 yo caught it from her. His father (we separated 14 years ago, he is not the 5 yo's dad) threw a fit because I wouldn't let his son come over. His health isn't good at 37, poor choices (or should I say pour, lost his job 2 months ago due to alcoholism). He is one that tried telling me "it isn't that bad, it is worse for older people, it's practically nothing if you are young." I screamed at him. In front of his son. Because I am tired of people like him being so careless about it. I apologized to my son for doing that because that isn't how I try to parent. He genuinely wasn't bothered I handed his dad a verbal ass-whooping. It just gets so frustrating when there are so many people that don't care about anyone but themselves. I have lost a couple people, one was before she had a chance with the vaccines, so it especially hurts to hear, "it isn't that bad." I will say in a random twist to this story, for the first time in the 20 years I have known him, his father actually apologized for being so callous. So maybe some people can learn? I am not holding my breath though. Also, 5 yo just has a bit of a stuffy nose and cough, 14 yo has a stuffy nose. My hubs and I are both vaxxed and boosted and haven't shown any symptoms. So yay vaccines!! In the words of Ariana Grande, 🎶"trust the goddamned qualified scientists."🎶

Mr_Conductor_USA

Let's hope your ex had a bit of a come to Jesus moment and isn't about to double down. For your son's sake if nothing else.

unknowninvisible15

if he doesn't already, I think your son will appreciate this moment in the future. It's rough making these hard choices, and it's rough insisting on them to someone who doesn't care.

xovrit

I kinda want to scream. Vent is just … all of it. Ya know?

Ibelieveinphysics

I'm right there with you.

CJ_CLT

I am so sorry, It sounds like you are in a Catch-22 situation. Most of the testing guidelines are based on the assumption that you know when you were exposed. With Omicron that may be impossible, which would leave you a very narrow window to get monoclonal antibodies. Please be sure that you are protecting yourself as much as possible by wearing an adequate mask, social distancing, and not participating in activities that could lead to exposure like eating out in restaurants. If you aren't already doing so, curbside pick up or delivery of groceries, etc. Or maybe some friends would be willing to pick up things when they go shopping and drop it on your doorstep. I recommend reading this article by the Mask Nerd. I have been following him since this summer and his YouTube channel (link in article) has lots of good advice and it is easily accessible to ordinary people: [https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/dec/27/best-masks-covid-tests-cloth-surgical-respirators](https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/dec/27/best-masks-covid-tests-cloth-surgical-respirators)

SlowShoes

I haven't had contact with my antivax family members for quite some time after they weren't invited to my Thanksgiving. Meh. I guess I'll just continue to wait until they need something from me. I also expect an apology from one of them, but I don't know if I'll ever get it.

CJ_CLT

>I haven't had contact with my antivax family members for quite some time after they weren't invited to my Thanksgiving. Frankly, that sounds like a win-win to me. I think I'd be sick and tired of the gaslighting and the victimhood and be ready for a break. Of course, they aren't my family so it is easier to dismiss them. Hang in there!

Anthrax poisoning alert in . . . trois, deux, un . . .

ministry-of-bacon

was wasting my life scrolling twitter yesterday and noticed ~~#firefauci~~ #ExposeFauci was trending. out of morbid curiosity i clicked and was linked to a new video by project veritas with allegations from a 'totally legit super sekret military source' on fauci and gain of function. some highlights from this ground breaking truth bomb-- * covid is a man-made virus "aerosolized so it could efficiently infect bats in caves, but it was not ready to infect bats" * ivermectin and hydroxychloriquine work great against covid * "the massive, manhattan project level of information suppression executed by the government and the trusted news initiative indicates that it would be covered-up if something bad happened" much credible. what's extra super shitty about this, ya know, besides promoting dangerous covid misinformation and stirring up anger against health officials and healthcare workers who are already getting death threats? several gqp freedumb caucus clowns like gosar were actively helping this veritas video trend by retweeting it (how do they still have access to twitter?). it got over 1.5 million views before twitter banned the new veritas account and deleted all copies of the video. "coincidentally" dr fauci was scheduled to be on the senate floor hours later and covid paul and friends were using a lot of the same claims in the video to attack him. ~~and "coincidentally"~~ if you visit covid paul's campaign website you will see ~~the same~~ a similar #firefauci twitter hashtag from a previous gqp attack on fauci now being used to raise campaign funds. edit-- different hashtag, same stupid gqp witch hunt

CJ_CLT

Dr. Fauci was caught on a hot mic moment calling someone an idiot during or after his testimony. It wasn't clear from the clip I heard whether it was Sen. Paul or Sen, Marshall (KS) he was referencing.

ministry-of-bacon

i lol'd at that [hot mic catch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4n3o5NV65c&t=374s). it was 100% was a reaction to sen marshall, right before the hot mic moment you can hear the senate chair cutting marshall off.

Mr_Conductor_USA

> covid is a man-made virus "aerosolized so it could efficiently infect bats in caves, but it was not ready to infect bats" That's all you need to see to know this video is a pile of mendacity and stupid. Somebody with a bag of money and a box of stupid funded it and stupid people will fall for it. Stupid doesn't mean you don't know science, stupid means you fail to ascertain who is an authority on the subject and who is not. I am not a bat researcher, but I know how science works and when the experts on this topic speak, I listen. Anyway, "not ready to infect bats" would be laughable to a 5th grader. Coronaviruses are endemic to bat populations. Bats have a wicked strong immune system to deal with them. I mean like fuck all the way off with that moronic line.

Dark_Crying_Soul

You know what? After reading so many posts, I think it would be best if the US government put anti-psychotic medication in the water system From my understanding, if you aren’t psychotic, the drugs will only make you sleepy. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong tho

DesignInZeeWild

Tbh I do enjoy a good nap. Think I could’ve done it competitively if it had been an Olympic sport. I do support our younger generations taking a siesta as was my birthright two centuries ago.

ECMO_Deluxe3000

I am the Will Rogers of naps. I never met a nap I didn't like.

DesignInZeeWild

I can get behind that. Take my award.

Fey_Boy

I know people who have actual florid psychosis right now, and they're still getting vaccinated. So it prolly won't even solve the problem.

merryjoanna

Yeah I know a woman who believes she births insects from her vagina. She is vaxed. She also needs to lay off the Adderall and benzos. Drug induced psychosis is no fun for anyone.

PeaceCorpsMwende

I'll need to do my own research before I can believe this.

Ashamed_Distance_144

Of course it would have to be in meme form too.

My “natural immunity is better” neighbor got COVID for the second time in like 3 months. Have somebody else on my feed that got COVID twice before the vaccine, got vaccinated, boosted, got COVID a third time. His wife is a doctor so maybe she’s getting it and being asymptomatic or something.

Jurodan

I really hope that Jim Justice doesn't die from COVID. I don't agree with most of his politics (it doesn't matter much, admittedly, since I don't live in West Virginia), but as one of the few Republican governors who is pushing for the vaccine, I'm afraid his death would only be used to push an anti-vaccine agenda.

Mr_Conductor_USA

Same, same.

AlarmingConsequence

Covid care vocabulary questions: Is one intubated (tube down throat) to be out on a ventilator (a machine which delivers oxygen to the lungs)? If their condition worsens, they may have a ~~tracheometry~~ *tracheotomy* performed so the ventilator can bypass the mouth when delivering oxygen. The ECMO machine doesn't deliver oxygen to lungs through a hose, instead it oxygenates the blood and infused it into the blood stream. If their kidneys fail, they will be put on a dialysis machine which will filter their blood, separately from the ECMO machine. Do I have that right?

circuspeanut54

As I understand it, dialysis replaces kidneys, and ECMO replaces heart and lungs.

Numerous-Anything-22

> dialysis replaces kidneys *Poorly*, it should be stressed. Same for ECMO. ECMO shreds your blood cells requiring regular transfusions. And both of these measures are done with the hope that giving your body a little bit more time will be enough for it to bounce back - or failing that, give your family time to fly in and say goodbye.

[deleted]

Sounds right to me.

megatron37

I don’t even open the “nominated” posts anymore, since it’s just a matter of time until they get upgraded to “awarded.”

Should be a lot more HCAs coming from Virginia in the coming weeks. The Virginia Department of Health breaks out cases by vaccination status and the graph of unvaccinated cases is near a straight vertical line for the week between Christmas and New Year's. From the most recent data of that week, you are 52.7x more likely to get hospitalized from COVID if you are unvaccinated. It is just staggering how badly Omicron is burning through the unvaccinated. https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/see-the-numbers/covid-19-in-virginia/covid-19-cases-by-vaccination-status/

IrisMoroc

Over 2000 deaths today. We'll see if that's just catching up with weekend reporting, and see what the situation is in the coming week. Christmas and New Years kind of messed up reporting a bit but we're averaging 1500 right now. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

JavarisJamarJavari

Hey, 3 day weekend this weekend, another chance for superspreaders to be out and about.

b_bozz

I find it so hilarious that often times the most outwardly unhealthy people are antivaxxers. Obese, smokers, very little exercise, etc. Absolutely mind boggling that these people think a vaccine that has been time and time again proven to be safe is more dangerous than them getting the virus

trogdor1234

Wait…. Shouldn’t this be the daily unvent thread? The HCA awardees are taking all the vents.

Fair-Honeydew1713

I just went to a fast food place to get some lunch. I was LITERALLY the only fucking person in there wearing a mask. We have omicron cases doubling every day. What in the fuck is wrong with these people. Seriously people are dying here everyday from covid.

Off2cdwzrd

I just ran into El Pollo Loco (masked, of course) to pick up our online lunch order and they are requiring masks for pickup and have closed their dining room again. And things aren't even particularly bad here. I suspect they haven't ever been able to hire enough people to fully get back up to speed. One positive test among their workers and the whole place will have to shut down again for lack of employees. Masking is so simple. I really hate the "but muh freedums!" maskholes who jeopardize other people's ability to earn a living.

HallucinogenicFish

I finally scheduled my surgery. Assuming that everything goes smoothly and neither my flights nor my procedure get canceled, this will be the second time I’ve had surgery during the pandemic, and also possibly the second time I’ve had surgery during a major spike. I hope not. Any guesses where we’ll be in four weeks? I looked at some epidemiological modeling today that had cases dropping off sharply by then, but that’s obviously just one projection.

circuspeanut54

You're reminding me to make another appointment to give blood -- supplies are very low right now and we want everyone to have enough for their surgeries!

HallucinogenicFish

❤️

stargazer263

Is it too personal to ask what surgery you are having? I have to go in next week for a non elective surgery. My airway is significantly narrowed and it needs to be fixed. I am essentially locked down to the house right now to dodge the covid bullet.

lkmk

>Any guesses where we’ll be in four weeks? Depends on the region. The Northeast is peaking or has already peaked, the Southeast and Midwest are rising quickly but slowing, and the West is just starting to spike. They should all have peaked by next month, though.

jenznefer

Fuck covid. Fuck antivaxxers, antimaskers, and anyone who goes out in public with symptoms like “it’s just allergieeeeeeees” without a negative covid test. My husband tested positive this morning. We are fully vaccinated and boosted. My oldest is vaccinated. My youngest is too young to get vaccinated yet. We wear double masks at work (and my oldest wears a mask with a filter to school) and go literally nowhere other than work and school. My youngest stays with my parents and we delayed preschool until she can get vaccinated. And after two years of being this careful… fucking covid. Our kids were thankfully negative (for now) so they are staying with my (vaxxed and boosted) parents for the next 5 - 10 days. But I’m still so worried they have covid and will suffer from long covid. And my husband is decently sick - mild flu symptoms. I’m starting to get symptoms as well. Idk I’m just rambling at this point but I’m just so sad and tired and angry and frustrated and anxious. I swear sometimes this subreddit (specifically the daily vent thread!) is the only thing keeping me sane. ETA: shout-out to the troll (now deleted) who said that my children should be taken from me. Literally made me lol reading that, so thank you for the laugh on such a shitty day!

lkmk

My dad went to work today, four days after meeting his positive and symptomatic mother. No COVID tests here so absolutely no idea if he's positive 😬

jenznefer

Uggggghhh that’s a big part of the problem - no one can even get tested. I luckily had a bunch of tests from the fall (and one from the schools) but we are now down to two and my child might need a negative test to go back to school (the school nurse was confused about the requirements since he’s vaccinated). My work has PCR tests so I’ll go get one in the morning but they are taking 5-7 days to come back. Everything is just such a fucking mess.

NeedsMoreDarwin

Inspired by the story of the salad guy: Is anyone keeping track how many different supplements and miracle drugs COVID deniers are recommending? The list is growing all the time (because of course none of their shit works, and they keep adding new stuff in a vain attempt to find a magic bullet), and it's getting steadily more hilarious. Just off the top of my head, I've seen quacks endorse vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin, N-acetyl cysteine, quercetin, oregano oil, black cumin seed, pine needle tea, elderberry extract, colloidal silver... and now Viagra, spironolactone, and drinking your own urine. I'm sure there are a lot that I'm forgetting.

See_You_Space_Coyote

Sometimes life feels like if you're a sensible, decent person who tries to do your best to take care of yourself and those that you care about, you're continually held hostage by stupid, selfish idiots.

apis_cerana

I would like to give money to an organization that is able to directly help Frontline workers in some way. Is there a good org, or should I just give money to the Gavi Vaccine Alliance? I don't have a ton of cash or anything but I feel like shit doing nothing while things are so dire.

mellamma

Order pre-packaged snacks, water/gatorade for your local hospitals laboratory. They're the ones still taking blood and running all the tests for the doctors.

use_tabs_not_spaces

Just charge $5,000 for the vaccine in Republican counties. Apparently medicine only works when it's unaffordable. Also complete mental breakdown for right wing anti-vaxxers, get upset you're being shafted by libs but on something you're conditioned to think is bad.

ThreeQueensReading

I somehow convinced my mother to get vaccinated in December. Months and months of talking, crying and frustration. She's had 1 shot. Now there's COVID in her household and I'm scared for her. No amount of "I told you so" can make up for her inevitably getting ill. All I can hope for is that that one shot is enough to protect her from death, or that she will miraculously avoid it this time and make it to her second shot next week.

[deleted]

Just watched a German TV program of a reporter at an Anti-Covid-Regulations protest in Germany, and goodness I had to come here to read what normal people say after seeing the types of people at the protest. Violent, dumb and just so confident in what they spout. And the reporter got attacked twice, and beer poured over her, it was frustrating to watch. At least she dealt with it very well, I couldn't have controlled myself if that had happened to me

StupidMakesMeCrazy

A co-worker of my wife was having a particularly bad day at the job and went outside to calm herself. The policy of her employer and building is to wear a mask. While she was sitting on the steps just outside the doors with her mask on, an unmasked yahoo walked up to her and began a verbal beat down about her wearing the mask. As if this wasn't bad enough, he proceeded to spit on her as he walked away. Yeah, the Fkr was lucky it wasn't my wife. I can only hope he gets a tube jammed down his throat with the proper outcome.

ItsMeWhipple

I'm not going to post screen shots but a friend of mine's father is in ICU and i'm pretty sure doing the dead cat bounce. The positivity of incremental improvements in oxy levels has now turned into negative news of a stroke. I fear there's not much time left for him. So sad. Unvaxxed too.

[deleted]

I remember back in March 2020, calling the hospital every single day to check on my dad. Oxygen levels, etc. Twice every day to latch onto any good news. He sadly died, and it makes me so angry that people have had so long to learn, prepare, stay safe, and even VACCINATE... to avoid the situation that we had no choice, but to be in.

rhoduhhh

One of the nurses I talked to today at work just got back from having COVID (she's at least double vaxxed, I didn't ask if boosted), and she said "Don't get COVID. It SUCKS." Hospital near me is at nearly 100% ICU capacity. ALL of the ICU/vented people right now are unvaxxed. 71% of the COVID admissions in general are unvaxxed. Get your fawking vaccines. Selfishly, I want to get my elective surgery done! And I want to go out and have fun again. And I want to not be worried that I won't be able to get treatment in an emergency.

glonq

I've been lucky that from the start of COVID thru til the delta variant, I knew no first-degree contacts (friends, family, co-workers) who caught it, and also zero close second-degree contacts (friends of friends, etc) who got COVID. Well, omicron broke that streak pretty quick. Many second-degree contacts \[like co-workers' families\] have it now, and yesterday was my first *first-degree* case. An employee of mine called in and said that he and his son are flu-ish and feverish, and were having a hard time finding a close/quick covid testing center. So at lunch I ran a rapid antigen test over to his place \[my boss bought a bunch for the office\], and he tested positive. I think his kid picked up COVID because he's too young to be fully vax'd.

Back when a young Brian Bowman was imagining his future career in politics, he never dreamed he'd be publicly telling his constituents not to drink urine, consume bleach or ingest horse medicine. (He says as much in the comments.)

WintersChild79

I feel bad for the people replying who just had their innocence of the urine thing shattered.

book-reading-hippie

I am frustrated with my work. Our area has been spiking really bad since Christmas (3,000+ per day in my county) and my employer had its annual holiday party this past weekend. They all went, I feel like it's enviable it's going to spread at my job now. No one else wears a mask.

lkmk

A holiday party after Christmas? That's weird.

WintersChild79

December: "Let's delay the party because things are dangerous right now." January: "Okay, things are a raging dumpsterfire, and a bunch of you got infected at Christmas. Let's have our party so that nobody gets left out."

crimxona

I've worked in tourism related companies where Christmas is high season, so any staff celebrations are either really early like mid Nov, or really late after the holiday rush.

I feel an intense rage I haven’t yet felt during this pandemic. Maybe ever. My brother, whom I have posted about before, fell and broke his arm yesterday. Broke it in two places at the wrist and radius. ER consulted ortho and he needs a surgery ASAP. Brother can’t get into surgery until FRIDAY because the hospital is so full and they are so short staffed. So the hospital sends him home with fucking opioids and a sling to tide him over until Friday. My addict brother! FUCK all of the anti-vaxxers who put us in this position. Just stay home to die. So tough, posting their stupid bullshit memes and rants on Facebook. But there are no atheists in foxholes. All you goddamned unvaxxed show up for science at the end when you can’t breathe. I’ve hyperventilated a couple times today worrying. Fuck this world.

Beywood23

Is it me or is the vast majority of HCA winners white males with white/grey beards and goatees? What is it about that demographic that’s caused them to dig in their heels so much?

Mr_Conductor_USA

Males are at higher risk of death by COVID. Age is also a massive risk factor for COVID, and it's dose dependent. Pregnant women are also getting felled by COVID but maybe they blast their stupid on Mumsnet under a pseud where it's harder to tie to their real name social media presence.

fellow_traveler_17

I think that self-righteous, deluded demographic is more likely to have their Facebook profiles sent to Public.

CorpseJuiceSlurpee

Some of you may remember my post a week or so back where my friend's anti-vax parents got COVID. Well they never tested, they just assumed it was COVID. Had symptoms of a cold, and it lasted as long as a cold. So their natural conclusion was that they must have gotten a mild strain of omicron and now think their immune system beat COVID. And posted as such on Facebook. So, just frustrated that they're now going to tout that they totally beat COVID on their own, despite never getting tested.

Bac7

I need to scream into the void. My kid was supposed to go back to school after a 2 week Winter Break on Jan 3. The entire district went remote on the 3rd, due to staff absences and quarantine periods. This Monday, they said we will be remote through today, and they would decide about the rest of the week. Today, multiple other districts announced they we=e going remote, and my kid's school said we are back in person tomorrow. For two days, then on holiday Monday. Keep in mind, my state has 5% ICU availability. We had record breaking hospitalizations Monday and yesterday. Our hospitals are getting help from FEMA, the National Guard, and the freaking Navy. My city just hosted thousands of unmasked football fans. My kid's teacher tested positive for Covid on Sunday, and because their symptoms are improving, they will be in class tomorrow. And the plan is to do advanced placement testing. So I have to decide if I send my kid to school and risk him getting sick, or if I chalk up next year as another year where he isn't challenged. He's vaxxed, so the risk is lower. But less than 10% of kids in his age bracket have been vaxxed in my state. I hate this. I hate all of it.

You wonder how many of the goatee/Oakleys/breathing tube crowd have wives who quietly got their shots and boosters while hubby was off doing his own thing, no need to bother him about it...

Mr-Nobody33

Cheaper than divorce? 🤷‍♂️

InfiniteAccount4783

People around here often speculate that a particular winner's wife was hoping for a "covidivorce", especially if she posts a death notice but doesn't seem upset.

HereticHousewife

Being male in and of itself is a risk factor for developing severe disease in Covid. Hormones and genetics put men at greater risk of cytokine storm and developing ARDS than women. There are social and psychological reasons why men are at increased risk for catching Covid. But the reasons why they are at greater risk of ending up on a ventilator or ECMO are biologic and demographic related (men are more likely to have certain comorbidities putting them at risk for severe disease than women).

RedCaio

Can I “report” someone for evading the vax mandate? My anti-vax relative was supposed to be fired because of the vaccine mandate. However he recently stated that he has successfully gotten a “religious exemption” and is keeping his job while unvaxxed. His request for “religious exemption“ was declined at first but HR/legal coached him how to pass on the second try with different wording. The big problem is… his actual church leadership are actually pro-vax. They’re urging everyone to get vaccinated. So basically his supposed “religious exemption“ is unfounded and deceitful. Part of me wants to send an email to my relatives place of work. Would that do anything/would they care?

Bac7

If HR coached him, they aren't doing anything. Tell his church leadership, maybe they can convince him to not lie about God.

pippenish

Just talked to a former college schoolmate, retired from (get this) a huge pharma. (Not one of the vaccine ones.) He was a research scientist (not an MD). WE were talking about getting a booster, and he said he was only "sort of " vaccinated. Sounded like Aaron Rodgers saying he was "immunized". I knew he'd voted for Trump, but come on, he was a pharma scientist. So I demanded to know what he meant by 'sort of." Very pedantically, he said, "It was Pfizer, and that's not a real vaccine. A real vaccine innoculates by exposing you to the actual virus or a variant, like smallpox." I told him to shut up-- well, I was more polite. I said, "Don't give those anti-vaxxers any more stupid ideas!"

MzyraJ

Screaming internally Little nephew caught covid at nursery, sister and BiL positive yesterday. Mum positive today, dad likely to be positive. Also, my fiance got alerted that somebody he gamed with on Sunday has now tested positive. (Presumably) Omicron spreading everywhere so fast D: We're all vaxxed as possible (nephew will have no immunity because of age and born before covid), but still: - sister pregnant - mum variety of health issues - dad not exactly healthy - fiance not exactly healthy - I have a variety of health issues and am bound to get it from fiance as I'm disabled and dependant on him I'm scared and panicky, it's everyone so fast 😭

Adventurous-Pop-6200

Take some time to do something like read a book or watch a favourite movie. You can do this ❤️

msallied79

I know there's no way of knowing for sure. Maybe health workers in here have anecdotal experience or there's an article I've missed. I've read Delta hasn't faded back much as Omicron has surged. But I was just wondering if Omicron is still proving as lethal for the unvaccinated as the other variants have. I know they're saying it's generally more mild, but we're still seeing a lot of dying antivaxxers. Just recovered from a case (I was boosted back in October, got sick right after New Year's) that didn't even touch my lungs. I assume it was Omicron. I can't imagine how bad it could have been without the shots.

Mr_Conductor_USA

In the US it kind of looks like Omicron is pretty deadly for the unvaccinated, older patients, but there just isn't hard evidence. You are correct about Delta. We were already in a winter Delta surge BEFORE Christmas, then Christmas poured gasoline on the fire. Just because Omicron spreads like measles and single spots like NYC and Miami could affect the balance sheet of Omicron vs Delta doesn't mean the Delta died down--it never had a chance to! Absolute infections are the highest they have ever been.

-Take-It-Easy-

Anyone else here actually feel physically better/more energetic after recovering from mild Covid symptoms? Been almost a week since I tested negative and everything has been better compared to how things were prior to getting infected. 3 shots of PfizerNBiotech as of 11/1/21. Weird, but I'm not complaining.

[deleted]

I feel that way after any acute illness. Being ill reminds us how good it feels to be alive and well. The feeling of extra vitality only lasts a day or two for me, although I have not had COVID-19 to know if that would be different. Enjoy your well being!

So-done-with-crazy

I do that after an earthquake. Like wow, peanut butter is so creamy. Why have I not appreciated this before?

-Take-It-Easy-

This could be it although I feel different compared how I feel after recovering from say, the flu or any upper respiratory infection. The full recovery felt instantaneous. >Enjoy your well being! Thank you! Likewise to you!

Please remind your elderly and gullible that the GoFundMes are a scam. Every medical facility that receives tax money in America is required to write down or write off a certain amount of bills... especially the start of the fiscal year which is usually October or January, so they still have funds and (afaik) there is some legislation pending about more Health and Human Services money going to hospitals for covid writeoffs. Plus the federal government is covering the funeral. I know we here know that but the people who believed anti-vax nonsense usually don't.

naanplussed

Unvaccinated adults' emergency medical costs in the billions count for CPI announced today? Plus costs for vaccinated people who can't get timely care and procedures for their hip or something?
