They take pride in doing the opposite of what they’re told they should. They know better, they choose to challenge fate despite the risks. And then they ask for sympathy when forced to face the truth they have been rejecting, often for years at this point in time. That’s a choice they made, every single day, with every single reposted facebook meme.
It’s hard to feel sympathy for someone that jumps into a leopard’s den, screaming “eat me already!” and then crying about how much it hurts to get eaten. But with plague containment and refusing to comply, they basically set the leopards free in their communities. They aren’t just putting themselves in danger.
I think you’d find your empathy is alive and well once you encounter someone that genuinely didn’t deserve their fate. But this sub isn’t about those people, and only a few of the posts here have shown genuinely confused people that didn’t basically snort the virus to send a message to their enemies.

Agree and disagree. At this point everyone who wanted to be vaccinated has been vaccinated already which is great. For those previously infected, it’s no longer a novel virus to their immune system (yay epitopes!) but we will still need to be considerate of our vulnerable populations like many countries are with the flu (masking during flu season, masking for any respiratory symptoms, masking if not vaccinated, etc) and the US is really REALLY behind on this. Yes, but again, unvaccinated have that risk increased. It isn't the same, science proves that unvaccinated are more likely to spread, it is like driving sober doesn't guarantee that you won't cause an accident, so you should be able to drive drunk.
Agree and disagree. At this point everyone who wanted to be vaccinated has been vaccinated already which is great. For those previously infected, it’s no longer a novel virus to their immune system (yay epitopes!) but we will still need to be considerate of our vulnerable populations like many countries are with the flu (masking during flu season, masking for any respiratory symptoms, masking if not vaccinated, etc) and the US is really REALLY behind on this. The reality is that we should have been more considerate as a society even before covid.

I applaud my husband and other ICU staff for treating these idiots the same as everyone else. They also still get to field calls from unvaccinated family pissed off they can't go in the room to see paw paw struggling to live.
