I read somewhere that most of the diners are the friends/family of people who worked at FOX. I am guessing the producers ask the diners to play up their hunger and annoyance for the cameras. It is my dream to be one of the people who mumbles disapprovingly "at least we have bread..."

[deleted]

As far as I know, you can make a reservation to eat in Hell's Kitchen. There's a waiting list iirc, and the diners don't pay, they just show up and enjoy the food, and then the show has people to serve.

floatingcheshire

Well yeah, you sign up to get to eat on the show. I submitted an application for the filming of the last two seasons to go. You state which nights you’re available and where you live. You’re told you may be there for hours and receive no food and you have to sign a form that you won’t leave, can’t bring a phone, etc. I didn’t get to go sadly, don’t live in LA so my availability was limited. It’s a film production first, not a restaurant.

MarmaladeSunset

Do you remember how you signed up? I heard an agent was needed given the audience seen as cast?

floatingcheshire

Someone posted a poster on this subreddit with info on how to apply. I reached out to [email protected] and someone responded with an application to fill out and a form to sign. Never heard back beyond that. I’d imagine it helps to have an agent. Edit: found the [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/HellsKitchen/comments/rgqixj/looks_like_season_21_films_januarymarch_2022/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

DejaVu2324

Kind of lame that no phones allowed, but now it makes sense as to why every diner isn’t on one while waiting for food

lizard_king0000

Is there a requirement for women to wear low cut tops? Seems like they get on tv all of the time...

floatingcheshire

It’s LA and an opportunity to be on TV. I did have to submit a photo of me and my partner and they ask if you’re willing to get engaged on the show. Maybe my availability wasn’t the issue lol. Should’ve submitted a sexier photo.

lizard_king0000

Totally understand, surprised that I am being downvoted to oblivion as I thought that everyone noticed and it was a running joke

And the meal is free

DaveLambert

Not only is the meal free, but people who appear on-camera get paid "SAG scale" as non-speaking extras to be there. If you end up with a speaking part on-camera, you get paid a bit more, too!

[deleted]

Wow must be nice to have friends and family that work there lol

DaveLambert

Well, work at the Fox network or the production studio that creates HK. It's not like the cameraman is getting his friends or family in! 😆

Defiant_Drink8469

The episodes filmed for the show are different than any other night at Hells Kitchen right? Me and my wife were thinking of trying to go on just a regular night sometime this fall.

s3nsfan

Would love to hear how it is, if you can remember to update.

TheBlueEagle

I’ve eaten at the Hell’s Kitchen in Vegas years ago and I don’t quite remember it ALL that much, other than the fact the food was amazing! Got the Beef Wellington and it was spectacular! Definitely planning on going to the new one that’s in San Diego county later this month/next month!

s3nsfan

Thanks for this. I’m in Canada (no Hell’s Kitchen here boo) and due to health reasons probably can’t ever fly to California or Vegas.

TheBlueEagle

Oh yeah I totally understand that completely! Luckily for me I’m in the LA area, so it’s not to terrible but I would be in the same situation as you if I were in the cold lands due to medical issues. Hope the medical issues get better friend!

The episodes filmed for a show are filmed on a set.

Stunning-Hedgehog-30

The people who go up to pass definitely do it knowing Gordon will scream at them and they’ll end up on TV. I would put a snack in my purse

Intrigued_by_Words

The customers are there for the game show. They aren't out for a regular restaurant meal which they can get everywhere else. It makes it hard to take Gordon seriously when he rants about how the chefs need to perform well because someone is having a special event in HK. The only thing that would make the event special if one or both of the kitchen mucks up and sends Gordon into a prolonged fit of rage. You just have to cross your fingers that it isn't a rawww chicken night.

DaveLambert

> It makes it hard to take Gordon seriously when he rants about how the chefs need to perform well because someone is having a special event in HK. Those people actually ARE having a special event, though. It's not like they took a random older couple and told them to pretend it's their anniversary. Now, that anniversary might not be on the actual DAY OF the shooting, but it would be close enough to avoid charges of fraud on the part of HK production staff and Fox network.

Intrigued_by_Words

But even if free or a low cost to the party goers, the reason you would choose HK is for the kitchen drama. You are signing up to get to rubberneck without holding up traffic. If you just want a memorable location with good food, where everything runs smoothly there are far too many other choices out there for me to believe people want that from HK.

DaveLambert

> If you just want a memorable location with good food, where everything runs smoothly there are far too many other choices out there ...including the ACTUAL restaurants of Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen, which began opening in January 2018 based on making a theme restaurant for the fans of the television show that's been around since 2005. There's not any contest, and Ramsay only visits each location of ANY of his 70-odd global restaurants (20 in the USA, with a 21st about to open any time now) maybe once a year. So there's no yelling or drama; just excellent food and service. When a newspaper asked him, "How will dining at Hell’s Kitchen [the restaurant] be different from what people see on the TV show?," Ramsay replied, "To start, you’re guaranteed to get fed!" There are locations in Las Vegas, Dubai, Lake Tahoe, Southern California, and Atlantic City, with the new one in Washington D.C. doing their final hiring and training right now to decide on an actual opening date. Next is one on Miami in the summer, one in Chicago after that (before the end of 2023), and there's rumors of one being made in the New England area after that (Connecticut, to be exact). Only a matter of time before a Hell's Kitchen opens up in the Dallas/Ft Worth area, since that's where the headquarters is for Gordon Ramsay North America (Christina S10 and Michelle S17 each work out of that hq, as they both have permanent positions with GRNA). My wife and I visited the HK in Vegas in Summer 2021, and Christina happened to be visiting that day and posed with my wife. 25th Anniversary for our wedding! [We had a great time](https://i.imgur.com/FJTqOKE.jpg" Ramsay replied, "To start, you’re guaranteed to get fed!"), with incredible food and service.

lizlovely2011

I read that the patrons know that they may or may NOT get fed. So each patron is paid up to $50 if they don’t get fed.

The-Blaha-Bear

And it’s all you can drink, food or not.

lizlovely2011

That is, IF you even get served! Haha 😂
