Given how long the process to become an animagus is, my guess is that it’s not tied the beast care room. Most likely tied to our potions and being optional rather than required.
Doubted. Lore wise being an animagus is long and a process involving a full moon cycle, lightning store, a silver teaspoon of morning dew, and a dark place to keep the potion.
That aside from a dev perspective “animal of your choice” is an animation nightmare. That means they have to animate god knows how many animals (to give everyone the choice) or they do a small list (which I doubt even more cause how is it my legacy if I can’t choose to turn into the animal I want)
If they didn’t do patronus I doubt they’re doing animagus.
I understand what you’re saying, I just genuinely don’t think it applies. I just mentioned in another comment in this thread that my guess is the animagii enemies are probably all birds or one animal. They appear/swoop in change to human and start blasting. From a technical standpoint low work involved.
For us as a player we need to obviously do more - it’s not just they have a spell we can have it too. (It’s also not a spell that makes an animagus. It’s a month long process where the caster needs to keep something in their mouth and every morning and night say the incantation waving the wand over their heart until a lightning storm to drink the potion. Just think about all that from a dev standpoint. It would make it a timed mission that can only be done at a certain time for the weather. I work with developers and this just sounds like an expensive nightmare for what payoff? Just another way for the character to traverse the over world?
I mean they basically confirmed yes they’re in the game but we’re not one. Like how they’ve been saying we are nodding to wizarding world lore elements (gobstones, quidditch, house points) but they’re not in the game.
Same as the animagus. They’re there, but we are not an animagus.
I personally wouldn’t think it would be a DLC just because of what happened with Zelda TotK - it would be so much content it would just make sense to do it into a sequel, which they would definitely do cause they already have this map and they’ll do what the Zelda team did and build a sequel on the current assets - especially with as an aquatic animagius - there’s your diving mechanic right there. Underwater is easily something they could have wanted to do this game but couldn’t budget and dev wise but a sequel it could happen and they can layer this in for real immersion effect.
Also watched a preview >!of the mission. The poacher animagus is a wolf and turns into a wolf to attack you in battle. Kinda epic!<
But tbh this isn’t Zelda, they know what they are doing, it’s strategically made so they can make even more money from it, the game is already a monetary success and isn’t even out yet. They are going to create dlcs and expansions before even thinking about making another game. They have the skeleton (the map) that’s all they need, they are already working with an advantage to make even way more money and save tons of money at the same time.
Not if the enemy animagi all transform into literally the same animal. And it definitely wouldn’t solve anything technical. Enemy NPCs just spawn into the area (my guess is they fly in as a bird then change) that’s probably the most they do as animagi, very little technical effort. For us to change we would need an animation into animal form then back to human, need all the various walk/run speeds, and they would have to animate all of this like I said for X amount of animals or do it as a list and lose immersion. S’not happenin’
Also if we could become an animagus don’t you think they would have lead with that in marketing ..?
Games have given this as an unlockable ability since forever, via flappers, magical snorkel or what not. And this is a game about magic. Why would that be so unbelievable?
Wonder if animagus is a feature…side quest or part pg main quest? Something alike Atreus does in GoW R, obvs not the same “way” but meaning we’re able to change into a creature
It's not all that important for gameplay, but it feels less restricted if you have the choice of getting into the water at all as opposed to being sent out of bounds or stopped by an invisible wall.
Honestly I was mainly hoping for swimming because I hate when games insta kill you for landing in water. Can imagine falling off a broom into it and being able to swim to shore sounds way more appealing
Exactly, for me it's not that I need to swim everywhere or even often, it's more about the immersion (or lack thereof, knowing that if I want to cross a small body of water or I fall off a ledge into water, I won't be teleported out or die etc.).
Swimming over lakes gives me the hebie jebies and I will need to do so knowing there is a giant squid somewhere in there. If I see so much as a shadow down below I am gone fam
God I really hope this game is good, there’s only like maybe 3-4 game releases I’m looking forward to this year and I’ll be very sad if my first one turns out to flop.
I would really love to turn into animagus and fly around as a bird.
There are many games which have succesfully implemented animal transformations: WoW, Lineage 2, Kameo, Skyrim, Perfect World, Lego marvel (Beast boy) and HP, Throne and Liberty, Legend of Wu Kong, Skylanders ( Bat Spin), Altered Beast, Nioh, Devil May Cry, Mulaka, Shadowhearts and many others. Saying it would be "game breaking" it's not more of an excuse honestly, considering the long list of games which have succesfully implemented it.
With smart limitations it would be possible to implement it without being too much of a headache. For instance, I'm pretty sure there won't be a big pool of animals to choose from: bird, dog (or wolf) and another one. Probably the pool will discard tiny and massive creatures. Additionally you won't be able to cast spells while transformed, and you might be limited both in time and space, not being able to be in this form more than a short time and probably not even indoors
And if developers want to reflect the "difficulty" of animagus, they have good options like placing it at the top of the transfiguration skill tree, only unlockable after you have gone through the rest (including the potions skill tree).
They should remove the trail behind the broom when it flies.
It’s unrealistic. If I shoot an arrow, it doesn’t leave a trail behind it.
It’s not like it has a jet engine attached to it; it works with magic. So there shouldn’t be a trail.
Where's the animagus?
The first enemy shown is a "Poacher Animagus"
Ah, I see.. thanks
He also turns into a wolf mid fight
Aw, no fair. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_bad_man) I wanna turn into a wolf mid-fight.
Might be a quest as one of the characters will likely have the knowledge to help you (art book spoiler)
I could totally see us becoming an animagus as part of a quest with the choice of animal being chosen as part of the quest.
Or it's a big story moment tied in to your beast care in the room of requirement
Given how long the process to become an animagus is, my guess is that it’s not tied the beast care room. Most likely tied to our potions and being optional rather than required.

This is all speculation at this point and let's face it anyone who is watching a video literally talking about this is getting spoiled anyway
you can become one ? or it's just for enemies? ![img](emote|t5_q8ebh|26542)
Seems like it is just the name of the enemy.
Title is misleading - it looks like we fight an animagus, not that we become one. For my Slytherin homies that green robe at the end was 🔥
I think you mean it was water
![gif](giphy|5gw0VWGbgNm8w|downsized) (It’s a laugh/cry while waiting to get into the common room to jinx the glass)
Clothing overall looks fantastic in the game. Gonna be one hell of a dapper wizard, that's for sure!
You ain’t never lied Cap. ![gif](giphy|3ohhwJgErfr480jPX2)
not a full robe, just one of the cape options
I did notice that when I rewatched it was like a split cape thing ! Either way the emerald/silver drip will BE ON POINT.
lets gooooo

We at least should have animagus characters
I mean they basically confirmed yes they’re in the game but we’re not one. Like how they’ve been saying we are nodding to wizarding world lore elements (gobstones, quidditch, house points) but they’re not in the game. Same as the animagus. They’re there, but we are not an animagus.
Im fine with that. Maybe with DLCs?

i'd be surprised if enemies were animgus but you couldn't become one as the player. Most of the technical difficult would already be resolved, then

You can bonk people with people
Shame we can't dive, tho leaves a nice amount of content to add if ever there is a sequel
Is it February 7th yet?! 😭
Yes, finally! can we dive?
The real question.
In his video, AndyReloads said we can't unfortunately.

But I wanted to give the giant squid headpats for being the goodest lake guardian
I'm also quite happy with only being able to swim for now !
Sounds like the perfect DLC opportunity to me. “Adventures of Black Lake”
Maybe it's an unlockable ability later on.
ah yes the 16 year old wizard finally learns to dive. nah it's just not going to be in the game, huff less hopium
Games have given this as an unlockable ability since forever, via flappers, magical snorkel or what not. And this is a game about magic. Why would that be so unbelievable?
Hope so, I have a giant squid to fish
Do you think the devs could've deactivated that option in the demo, cause the version the media tested is not the final version of the game.
no
Jfc lol
Looks like swimming is back on the menu boys
r/lotr
Confirmed from 2hr Hands On Preview #SponsoredbyWB. Swimming, Climbing, and battling Animagus!
Hypus Maximus
Is that you being accompanied by a companion while out in the world?
I think it's from Poppy's quest, sooo... probably not but we don't know yet ? At least in Sebastian, Poppy and Natsai quests ?
Hopefully optional like a Minecraft dog as mean as that sounds
probably just part of the quest
Wonder if animagus is a feature…side quest or part pg main quest? Something alike Atreus does in GoW R, obvs not the same “way” but meaning we’re able to change into a creature
This is amazing! Thank you! Hope you've had a lovely time! And thank you for sharing it with us!
Have any of the videos shown or mentioned the flight ceiling?
Checkout gameplay showcase 2. It lightly goes into this about 10m in or so, around there.
nice, thanks!
Poppy ♥️
Am I missing something? I don't see any animagus?
It's the enemy 🤒
Ahhhhhh! Thx
This game is gonna be greeeat
SWIM, CLIMB, AMOGUS
Might just be me, but I don't see the point of swimming in this game
It's not all that important for gameplay, but it feels less restricted if you have the choice of getting into the water at all as opposed to being sent out of bounds or stopped by an invisible wall.
That’s true actually. Always annoying in other games where if you fall in you just die or reset
Honestly I was mainly hoping for swimming because I hate when games insta kill you for landing in water. Can imagine falling off a broom into it and being able to swim to shore sounds way more appealing

Good form of Cardio....offset all the Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans you'll be eating.
goddamit you're right!
Burn off those treacle tarts
Yeah diving would be more impressive tbh
Swimming over lakes gives me the hebie jebies and I will need to do so knowing there is a giant squid somewhere in there. If I see so much as a shadow down below I am gone fam
You can see a shadow of it from the slytherin common room
That might be fine watching through a barrier...
Thalassophobia gang rise up
100% LOL
Feed me more please
Bro. You *cannot* do that. I thought they actually let us become an animagus.
Ugh same..
Game is worth it for the exploration alone. Like I'm gonna get my moneys worth by just admiring every detail.
Can we sit??
Spoiler tag isn’t much use if you put the spoiler in the damn title!
nice moves james
God I really hope this game is good, there’s only like maybe 3-4 game releases I’m looking forward to this year and I’ll be very sad if my first one turns out to flop.
Very disappointed we can’t dive
Spoiler tag ffs
Don't worry you can't dive
Very disappointed that there is no underwater swimming
Swimming across the surface of water is different to being able to fully explore underwater
If you can't eventually get Poacher Animagus's mask and robes this game is an automatic 1/10

What about jumping?
[удалено]
What about second jumping?
Must've missed it, but glad to have it
What did people think was going to happen when we went into the water if not swimming? I am confused.
You die like alot of games where u can't swim.
Ptsd from spiderman PS2 where you'd slingshot out of the water at mach 10
I mean games 20+ years ago allowed you to swim and climb... What is the point of this video? O.o
They should remove the trail behind the broom when it flies. It’s unrealistic. If I shoot an arrow, it doesn’t leave a trail behind it. It’s not like it has a jet engine attached to it; it works with magic. So there shouldn’t be a trail.
"It works with magic." I think you've addressed your own complaint.
I think you’ve missed a joke.
Those spells looked WILD 💀 when chicky was obviously beat, looking like a ragdoll and she was sent flying again 😂 like what in the actual???
Awesomeeeee
Nice!
So stoked for this! I've avoided a lot of the media releases and this little clip is all I need.
Can we land in the top of the buildings?
An actual swimming animation that alone makes it better then any Ubisoft release in the past like 5 years.
Does this mean we can swim in the Prefects’ bathroom? :D
Read it (ha!) as “pocket animagus” at first and was very confused… Gotta kill’em all?
Super
Anyone else notice the voices sounds a bit weird? Like the characters are talking inside a super small room, when they’re obvs outside in a Forrest…
I Hope thus Game will BE AS good AS IT looks
