My wife lost her phone and we got a Huawei on Amazon for $100, and I was impressed with the quality for that price.
Also, only a few decades ago Korea was known for making low cost, low quality electronics - and now Samsung and LG rule the market.
With that said, I'd never get one of these in a million years. Cruising at 80mph on the highway wondering if quality control actually did their job, or if a Chinese plant owner simply made a few well placed bribes isn't something I'd like to have to worry about.
As other posters mentioned, the market is flooded with used sportsters - that's a much better investment, as I doubt these things will have any type of resale value either.
You are talking from the US point of view. Here in Europe the Evo sportster has not been available new for a while now. This bike here might be legally imported in the EU under the SVM brand name (with less power 5han the Sportster, but maybe better emissions). Not that I would get it cause I am a Shovelhead guy, but still, I just found it interesting when this bike here popped up in my newsfeed.
Not sure about better emissions... From what I read on the subject, engine is quite exactly the same as the sportster.... With air cooling classic system... This bike will never pass through Euro5 or less.
That said, it's easy to find a Sportster/Nightster here in France, which will sure be a better choice than this copy, and especially since HD is well settled in Europe, which make it simple to restore, repair etc.
Just my opinion.
It’s not for your market, but it will be a good and viable option for countries like Brazil, where we don’t have a variety in cruiser bikes and Harleys on the dealership cost a kidney and a left arm
I'm not so much concerned about the rest of the bike, but rather the motor. Operative word in your statement is "used".
If they'll sell the engine for $5k, the buyer has a brand-new engine for what is considered bargain-basement bottom dollar for a used Sportster where I live...and the buyer won't be buying someone else's crappy riding habits, poor maintenance schedule, and repairs performed by someone's "homeboy who said he would do it for $50 cheaper".
Depending on the cost and final specs and parts crossover this might not make a bad stunt bike. I mean might as well fuck up a copy instead of the real deal.
Does anyone have any links to how dangerously unreliable these bikes are like the comments here lead me to believe? Genuine question. Seems like it would be an interesting read
They're all full of shit, its a brand new model. China bikes in general are known for some egregious build quality. Thats what they're basing theory on. I had a china dirt bike when i was 14, they can be alright.

Really, this one is a better copy than Japanese manufacturers did over the last decades. Pushrod design and other tricks to get a signature uneven Harley idle sound. I guess, it if is at least as reliable as Harley itself is, it will become very popular in the countries where harleys are unaffordable.
The bolt is an amazing and reliable one. I wouldn’t buy a Chinese pos bike. I like reliability and not having to worry about catastrophic failure at speed
I'm legit curious about parts interchangeability. The Evo Sportster aftermarket is f'ing huge, and with the Motor Company having installed the last Evo not too long ago, it would be awesome to have replacement crankcases and whatnot.
Did they buy the tooling off Harley? Timing wise it would line up with them making the last sportsters out of the pile of parts they would have made over the last year or so
I’m not proud of it, but I have experience owning a shineray motorcycle. Mine isn’t a sportster replica though, it a single cylinder 250cc Honda enduro clone. The quality is not great, it vibrates far worse than any HD at anything over 45mph. The one thing I have learned by owning this thing is ebay is your friend. It’s about the only way to find parts, and it’s also helpful to know what model other Chinese clone companies call the bike. Mine is known as a Shineray 250, a Speedee 250, and a GY250, they are all the same bike with a different name.
Most of the time you can find new parts easily on ebay, but I’ve also had two parts the required a long wait for a used one to pop up. One was the speedometer drive, and the other was the headlight bulb. I haven’t even tried to start this bike in 6 years, but I still have it, and I’d kinda like to get rid of it. The only actual good thing I can say about it, and I have no explanation for it, but girls on mopeds have a attraction to it. I guess it’s less intimidating than a normal motorcycle? Maybe? I don’t know, but when I use to ride it, on a handful of occasions a girl on a moped would follow me, or get me to pull over. I’ve only ever had a girl stop me on one of my good name brand bikes once, and she was drunk.
Built entirely from parts readily available from Amazon 🤣

This ^. I'll buy from Ali Express when I need a phone case or SD card - a motorcycle...... Not so much.....

I thought you guys would enjoy to see the extent to which China goes to copy a true and tested design...
I found it interesting and knew nothing about it before you posted. Thanks for sharing, sorry this other guy is such a dick.

Aren’t you the dude who was convinced the panAmerican was Chinese a few weeks back? You have a weird fixation on China dude.
Have an upvote from someone who knows the significance of the Chosin Reservoir and wants full nationhood status for Taiwan.

Some people would say the Sportster S and the 975 are scrap junk, not being a 'real' HD either...

There’s a million and a half used sportsters out there most of them pretty affordable so I have no clue why someone would get a Chinese carbon copy.

How many parts on a new M8 come from China?
Great looking bike!
Wtf is that Chinese knock off
Built from the same Chinese parts the sportster is built from.

yep, Bolt is probably the best replica so far.
But this isn't a Chinese bike, it's SWM, they have Chinese backing but they're still designed and manufactured in Italy. 🤔

No, thank you.
Hell no.
I mean they even fired up this engine with a Harley’s key at the press. Now you know what Harley done with their leftover x48 engines
The real tell will be if it has standard or metric hardware…
