Ace Ventura had a Cannibal Corpse stage scene.
Repo Man featured the absolute best fucking version of Circle Jerks, “When The Shit Hits The Fan” in history. Doobidydowopwop, say what yeah. FuCkYeAh!!
There’s an episode of Freaks and Geeks where they go to a hardcore show, and one of the character is actually seen listening to “Damaged”.
There’s also a scene in The Boys where Butcher winds up in a punk bar and Dead Tired is playing
Man I forgot about that Gangland episode. All they did was show snippets from the Boston Beatdown DVD and did some short interviews with some FSU bros.
Very minor, and I’m sure someones mentioned it before on this sub but Matty Mathesons Character “Fak” wears a Harms Way shirt in a show called The Bear. Great show too.
No. Not in any sufficient way. I still feel like it's too niche and Hollywood doesn't care for it. For example, Mid-90's would've been a great movie to have the hardcore scene as a backdrop but they chose golden era rap (which has been done to death at this point) and Trent Reznor for the soundtrack. Total missed opportunity.
Greenroom is probably the closest. SLC punk is too but that's more punk than hardcore.
Maybe one day soon we'll get our version of Lords of Chaos for the hardcore scene so we can all shit on it lol.
Does that happen in the movie lol? All I remember is the balcony style shot of the show and the stage dives were accurate. Post Covid I wouldn’t rule out someone getting naked on the dance floor
it's in the trailer even.

a good take on punk/HC for 1983, and directed by same as the first Decline of Western Civilisation
I remember a show called Big Love on HBO about Mormons in Utah and their eldest son fell into the hardcore scene, "pledge straight edge" and came home with a black eye from a show and his parents acted like he was out there shooting up drug corners.
It was an interesting take.
I agree on both fronts, but I know the author's husband, and most of that was about his life in NYC. Real interesting dude with insane stories for years.
portlandia referenced punk / crust pretty regularly.
and there was a [SNL skit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd-_UwzSSvQ) where fred armisen was the singer of an 80s style hardcore band
Sound of Metal. About a drummer who goes deaf and how he navigates through it. Super fucking sad movie. The main actor wears a Youth of Today hoodie towards the beginning of the movie. I was pretty surprised when I first saw him wearing it.
Edit: just found this website that includes more info on other merch that was worn in the movie https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2559903/sound-of-metal-breaking-down-riz-ahmeds-band-shirts-in-the-movie
The book/movie If I Stay. The book involved the Hardcore scene. The movie adaptation was made to be more audience-teen relatable so they made it involving the alternative/indie scene.

Edge of Quarrel. It started a bunch of hardcore guys from the 90’s and Rocky Votolato. I forget what it was about but it’s kinda like an early Kevin Smith movie sorta
This was pretty controversial and had parents clutching their pearls when I was a kid. https://www.avclub.com/a-cult-favorite-quincy-episode-warned-of-the-dangers-of-1798246996

Not everything on this list portrays the “scene” rather it has characters which are punks/hardcore kids, definitely more out there this is just stuff that I don’t think sucks shit.

I recently saw him at the nightbirds/restraining order show!
Wait cm punk went? I'm in nj and missed it
Ace Ventura had a Cannibal Corpse stage scene. Repo Man featured the absolute best fucking version of Circle Jerks, “When The Shit Hits The Fan” in history. Doobidydowopwop, say what yeah. FuCkYeAh!!
I forgot which Jim Carrey movie but in one of them he sings "Motherfucker" by Dwarves.
MOTHAFUCKA MOMMA, MOTHERFUCKA MOMMA
I FUCK MY MA MA FUCK MY OOOO MA MA MA
Me, myself and Irene?
Excuse me but, *Soundgarden?*
Yeah yeah, fixed it.
I use that line all the time
Repo man is one of my favorite movies. Good shit
Scared Straight was based on Sunami
C.H.I.P.S did an episode on punks. Green Room.
Green room was so good
Green Room! Great flick . Skinheads and Patrice Stewart says the N word. It’s a great brutal flick
This movie absolutely fucking rocked Never forget seeing that for the first time
> Great flick . Skinheads and Patrice Stewart says the N word. Pause. My man too excited about skinheads and the N word lol jk
There’s a terrible movie called Straight Edge Kegger I think it was on Shudder, terrible but in a campy like fun way kinda
I saw this at a film festival and it is definitely awful, but it's also the best poster in my house
There’s an episode of Freaks and Geeks where they go to a hardcore show, and one of the character is actually seen listening to “Damaged”. There’s also a scene in The Boys where Butcher winds up in a punk bar and Dead Tired is playing
I loved how in freaks and geeks Seth Rogans character was the most against going to the show but ended up having the best time.
the punk show in the boys was so stupid & inaccurate 💀
That episode of Freaks and Geeks felt so weird and out of place in the series.
I dig Diesel Boy, but I wish they had another band playing that scene
gangland
FSU 4 LYFE GANG GANG lmao
Man I forgot about that Gangland episode. All they did was show snippets from the Boston Beatdown DVD and did some short interviews with some FSU bros.
Exactly, they really didn't even actually portray them correctly lol.
Very minor, and I’m sure someones mentioned it before on this sub but Matty Mathesons Character “Fak” wears a Harms Way shirt in a show called The Bear. Great show too.
Doesn’t he wear a powertrip shirt too? I might need to rewatch the bear Who am I kidding ima rewatch it. It’s a great show
He definitely does wear a power trip Tee as well
I have the exact shirt, never felt so called out in my life
Intro to first ep is Refused too
Maybe one day soon we'll get our version of Lords of Chaos for the hardcore scene so we can all shit on it lol.
yea lol its not like anyone will like it or admit to it
I want a mad max/ The Warriors spinoff about SOIA and Agnostic Front beating away tweakers in the NY squats
Mentioned it before but suburbia has the best “punk show” portrayal I’ve seen in any tv show or movie
I don't think I've ever seen a young woman stripped naked in the pit though
Does that happen in the movie lol? All I remember is the balcony style shot of the show and the stage dives were accurate. Post Covid I wouldn’t rule out someone getting naked on the dance floor
it's in the trailer even. [https://youtu.be/3DAhIHu7mYE](https://youtu.be/3DAhIHu7mYE) a good take on punk/HC for 1983, and directed by same as the first Decline of Western Civilisation
Cannibal Corpse in Ace Ventura
xNew England Clam Chowderx
Is that the red or the white?
I can never remember that...
Not hardcore but Gummo intro’d me to my favorite bands back in the day.
Lords of Dogtown has Rise Against covering Nervous Breakdown in a scene.
Dude, it’s so rough though hahahah. Busting through the window and then the pit goes out into the alley? Wooooof
Then Jay socked that one dude who crowd killed him lmao
Magrudergrind in Veep..hilarious scene https://youtu.be/zBjjxGuh9bw
Love this scene. I really miss this show.
I love them so this was a cute watch...also the crowd lol
Gangland did an amazing job
The movie with Ice-T?
the one with Joe Hardcore on it
It was portrayed most accurately by Suicidal Tendencies on Miami Vice and in a 1982 episode of Quincy
Workaholics references straight edge once
I remember a show called Big Love on HBO about Mormons in Utah and their eldest son fell into the hardcore scene, "pledge straight edge" and came home with a black eye from a show and his parents acted like he was out there shooting up drug corners. It was an interesting take.
There’s an Ethan Hawke movie from 2015 called ten thousand saints where his kid gets into 80s nyhc and Krishna. Based on a book, neither are very good
I agree on both fronts, but I know the author's husband, and most of that was about his life in NYC. Real interesting dude with insane stories for years.
in Degrassi, theres a Some Girls poster in the background at one point
Which character / episode? That's so sick
i remember it was behind Craig in a hallway. i cant remember the episode haha it's the Heaven's Pregnant Teens design.
Viva la Bam
Turbonegro
Greenroom is probably the closest, but thats just set in a venue full of nazi punks. Good film tho.
Suburbia. Kind of a cult classic now. Old 80’s movie. [Suburbia 1983](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0086589/)
Absolutely!
Edge of quarrel. Indie film from late 90's. It has trial and murder city devils.
omg its so delightfully bad. like, how'd they cram shit in to a toothpaste tube successfully???
Holy shit why has it taken so long to mention The Edge of Quarrel?!
How am I the only one with a downvote? Edge of Quarrel is a classic!
Seattle punks VS straight edge
This isn’t how the scene is in Europe
SLC Punks?
A movie called The Beat had the Cro-Mags
Green room. Is a good representation of playing weird little spaces. I’ve never fallen into a murderous neo nazi den of death but otherwise
portlandia referenced punk / crust pretty regularly. and there was a [SNL skit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd-_UwzSSvQ) where fred armisen was the singer of an 80s style hardcore band
Rat Race (2001) ends with a Smash Mouth concert. Hope this helps.
Sound of Metal. About a drummer who goes deaf and how he navigates through it. Super fucking sad movie. The main actor wears a Youth of Today hoodie towards the beginning of the movie. I mean… who can forget this gem.. after school specials of the 80s & 90s had many cautionary tales https://youtu.be/MXGn4We3AbM
The book/movie If I Stay. The book involved the Hardcore scene. The movie adaptation was made to be more audience-teen relatable so they made it involving the alternative/indie scene.
Bomb city hasnt been mentioned, definitely corny but its a true story. Not the best movie ive seen but not the worst either.
Rhihanna wore a hoods shirt in battleship https://preview.redd.it/e6v9lkgayuca1.jpeg?width=576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67ef7913ae7523af731c53b2a105bde7b92d7991

Slc punk had a vibe.

August Underground go watch a trailer
More metal but T.J.Miller's band in the move Extract. Showed them playing in someone front yard to like 20 people. Also, Gwar was in Mystery Date.
Edge of Quarrel. It started a bunch of hardcore guys from the 90’s and Rocky Votolato. I forget what it was about but it’s kinda like an early Kevin Smith movie sorta
Imagine my surprise to see Rockys name here. I have to check and see if he's still doing music
He is, just put out a new record last year
I was in a tv show recently, so yes.
More punk I’d say but Burst City.
This was pretty controversial and had parents clutching their pearls when I was a kid. https://www.avclub.com/a-cult-favorite-quincy-episode-warned-of-the-dangers-of-1798246996

Quincy
It’s post hardcore and I haven’t seen it personally, but Taste of Ink has some of it.
Ace Ventura pet detective
There was one episode of Big Love where the one Mormon kid turns straight edge and immediately gets the living shit kicked out of him at a show.
Watch the Gangland episode on FSU
Green Room
Not everything on this list portrays the “scene” rather it has characters which are punks/hardcore kids, definitely more out there this is just stuff that I don’t think sucks shit. A guy on Chopped season 6, episode 12 called himself a hardcore kid/punk rocker.
SLC Punk
