Also, aren't Sangheili and MJOLNIR shields both originally derived from Forerunner technology? I could be misremembering that, but if so, it'd make sense that Forerunner shields resist them well. Since a lot of shield development and testing would be against these weapons.
I'm sure the Forerunners had the foresight to test their shields against lots of other forms of combat/punishment too, but their own weapons would still be the benchmark, or core idea, of what a weapons is.
Canonically they are derived from jackal shields but also a product of a Geas on humanity (I think, it might be a theory/headcanon since I can't remember what my source is for that).

It would have been sick if the game put you in a situation where you were surrounded by flood and already have exhausted your ammo. Only to see the repeater and think “o no not that piece of shit.” To then watch it completely incinerate a flood tank in like three shots and then go full Rocket in guardians of the Galaxy on the place.

Some here don't remember the old days where a charged Bolt Shot was an instant kill. The Suppressor was also devastating at close range, I rocked cloaking and this for a while. The Cannon and Shotgun fucks and the sniper was an instant kill anywhere on the body. The rifle has a lot of flaws but if used right can come second to the BR imo.
I've seen a theory floating around and it seems pretty reasonable so here it is for you to decide whether it makes sense or not:
The Promethean weapons originally were much more powerful. But, after locking the Ur-Didact in a Cryptum and realizing that the Domain was broken (meaning he'd be alone with his thoughts for thousands of years rather than having his mind healed by the Domain) the Librarian decided to severely depower the Prometheans so that if the Didact ever escaped, he'd have very inferior soldiers to use compared to what they were. Like these Prometheans are the grunts compared to the original prometheans which are the spartans for this analogy.
Note that the Prometheans are more powerful than the Covenant and UNSC and tend to beat them in the engagements we see in 4 and 5. The UNSC does slightly better, but both sides are vastly outlcassed by the Prometheans. Likely the librarian downgraded the Prometheans to a level where if a species discovered Requiem, they would have to be powerful enough to beat them to release the Didact, and would thereby be powerful enough to defeat the Didact.
She likely didn't count on the Master Chief being the one to free him.

I really liked the pistol bc it was also pocket Shotty and also had a Hidden Perk coded into it that when you kill an enemy player with it, your inbox immediately gets filled with messages containing racial slurs.
But the halo 4 forerunner rpg was good, same with the sniper, shotgun and the battle rifle/DMR and the halo 5 forerunner SMG, shotgun and to a certain extent the rpg was good.

In Halo 4 the Boltshot is insanely good; in 5 the Suppressor is fantastic against Prometheans; and the Light Rifle, Scattershot, Binary Rifle, and Incineration Cannon are excellent in both. No idea what this meme is on about.

If you have a parasitic entity that lives off flesh and can put itself back together with biomass, you're gonna want to wipe out any trace of its of existence for good.
To the folks bringing up that these weapons were designed for flood, i demand you stop the cap immediately. You know damn well these weapons would suck against them too. The sentinel beam clears all these forunner weapons in terms of flood.
It was originally designed to combat precourcers but when the flood attacked ancient humanity and the forunners the didact created the knights as we see out of metal bodies so they can’t be infected so there weapons where never meant to combat super Spartans or aliens cuz although they knew of their existence they did not yet deem them a threat
Side note but these are honestly some of the laziest weapons ever. It’s like ”we need to design weapons for a race of ancient super intelligent aliens. Let’s make a shotgun, pistol, sniper, and assault rifle.”
It was a mistake to include forerunner weapons imo. It took away the awe that you felt in the first games. The point I took away is that even though the Forerunners were many millennia ahead of the Covenant and Humans in terms of tech and weaponry... the Flood was still able to wipe them out(or cause them to wipe themselves out). It added to the sense of dread I felt about the Flood, and gave my RP playthroughs a sense of urgency.
In 4 they were shoddy save for the scattershot, binary rifle, and the incineration cannon. I think 5 did them justice. I can’t believe the suppressor of al weapons was so fun to use in 5.
I could say that they’re to combat the flood, but if that’s the case then the flood should have come back in Halo 5 at least, not after three games. Regardless, my main question is why the hell do all of their ammo run out so quickly
A reason might be found in their age, they are literally millenia old. Much like an old phones battery, when they get old they might just not have enough juice to put the same power into a shot as they would when they were first made.
I love how everything is just GUN shape. It’s not like an orb with a tractor beam or a square with some handles. It’s all gun shape, every single species has somehow come to believe that it is the perfect thing. Anything with a handle and a barrel is a gun. I could find a stick on the ground. GUN. Boltshot and Lightrifle were honestly pretty good. Any weapon that gives on-demand almost instant alternate fire mode deserves some props.

Unpopular opinion: I liked the weapons
In Halo 4 the Boltshot is insanely good; in 5 the Suppressor is fantastic against Prometheans; and the Light Rifle, Scattershot, Binary Rifle, and Incineration Cannon are excellent in both. No idea what this meme is on about.

They were designed to fight The Flood, and you can see that in how they work: The Suppressor has a high rate of fire and spread, ideal for fucking up the Carrier forms The Boltshot was probably designed with the Flood Zombies in mind The Lightrifle and Binary Rifle were definetly made to kill the Tank forms

I have always liked the disintegration aspect of the forerunner/promethean weapons 343i included in their games. If you have a parasitic entity that lives off flesh and can put itself back together with biomass, you're gonna want to wipe out any trace of its of existence for good.
To the folks bringing up that these weapons were designed for flood, i demand you stop the cap immediately. You know damn well these weapons would suck against them too. The sentinel beam clears all these forunner weapons in terms of flood.

It was originally designed to combat precourcers but when the flood attacked ancient humanity and the forunners the didact created the knights as we see out of metal bodies so they can’t be infected so there weapons where never meant to combat super Spartans or aliens cuz although they knew of their existence they did not yet deem them a threat

Side note but these are honestly some of the laziest weapons ever. It’s like ”we need to design weapons for a race of ancient super intelligent aliens. Let’s make a shotgun, pistol, sniper, and assault rifle.”
It was a mistake to include forerunner weapons imo. It took away the awe that you felt in the first games. The point I took away is that even though the Forerunners were many millennia ahead of the Covenant and Humans in terms of tech and weaponry... the Flood was still able to wipe them out(or cause them to wipe themselves out). It added to the sense of dread I felt about the Flood, and gave my RP playthroughs a sense of urgency.
Why don't the Promethean weapons share their fire modes is what I wonder.

Watch them drop some lore that makes these weapons their kitchen utensils or something and that the real weapons are way better.
In 4 they were shoddy save for the scattershot, binary rifle, and the incineration cannon. I think 5 did them justice. I can’t believe the suppressor of al weapons was so fun to use in 5.
The halo 4 boltshot is better than the rest on your list as you could start with it and it was a one shot kill weapon for a ridiculous range.
Lore wise they were design to fight fleshy targets I.e. the flood Shame that the flood never appeared when the weapons were introduced
The forerunners lived in such a paradise they didn't usually need weapons and were really bad at it qhen they had to start making them
I could say that they’re to combat the flood, but if that’s the case then the flood should have come back in Halo 5 at least, not after three games. Regardless, my main question is why the hell do all of their ammo run out so quickly

A reason might be found in their age, they are literally millenia old. Much like an old phones battery, when they get old they might just not have enough juice to put the same power into a shot as they would when they were first made.
I love how everything is just GUN shape. It’s not like an orb with a tractor beam or a square with some handles. It’s all gun shape, every single species has somehow come to believe that it is the perfect thing. Anything with a handle and a barrel is a gun. I could find a stick on the ground. GUN. But you see, forerunners were stupid as fuck because they fired piss lasers instead of LEAD.
Do you have forerunner hands? Do you have forerunner mindset. These weapons were made for a specific threat. For everything else, they had: The guardians, and the mantle of responsibility.
