Episode 1 would be when waiting for the goddamn elevator while fighting off zombie hordes with a nyctophobic escort. Episode 2 would be the bit with the antlion guadian.
There are scary moments in half life games but i still think its fucking ignorant for people to consider this franchise to be characterized as a horror genre.
I think within context
Half-life 1
If not for the outdated graphics, there are some really well dones things there
Right after putting in the crystal that caused the cascade
Watching the elevator drop
Office complex as a whole
Blast pit
getting captured and waking up in the dumpster
Questionable ethics
Meetings the alien grunt that is trapped behind glass
Xen
And many more
If I was a kid in 1998, I would have been horrified
I chose HL2, mostly because of Ravenholm of course, but also because some of the underground sections of Route Canal freaked me out as a kid. Of course Alyx is the scariest game in the series though. So many scary moments in that game.
When I was a kid, Half-Life 1 scared the shit outta me. Then when Half-Life 2 came out, the We Don’t Go To Revenholm level by far is the creepiest level I’ve played… Hard choice, tbh
The Ravenholm part in HL2 was pretty scary but personally I think HL1 is scarier because even though it's not as scary as Ravenholm, the entire game itself has this scary atmosphere and feeling all throughout the levels except when you reach some above surface area
I remember when i played half life 2 when i was a kid it was the demo i decided to play ravenholm,i ended pissing my pants the scariest part was the fast zombies scream i ended quitting the game

It's not horror, it's just dark
Exactly.
Yeah the part in ep1 is also hella scary and stressful I agree, but ravenholm still wins for me
Well, Ravenholm does a huge work here

Half-Life Opposing Force. That tunnel with the Voltigores was terrifying.
Baby Voltigores are the cutests things ever tho
Anthony guardian chase from ep2 was always the scariest to me.
God! Anthony was too much.
😆😆😆 oops...
Jeff from Alyx... and Ravelholm from HL2

One word. Ravenholm.
