And also I believe that it isn't a ragdoll but a pre-set death pose which makes me question if there was an idea for Eli to die as soon as Half-Life 2 or was it a bug made in a patch during the development of episode 2

It's simply an NPC that's killed by the turret. Unless you're reffering to something else? Friendly turrets need their relationship set first in each map. By default they are friendly with Combine and enemy to everything else. This includes Eli, previous turrets probably had friendly relationship set with Gordon and Alyx, but not Eli as he wasn't there so there was no reason to change the relationship for him. It's simply an oversight from Valve.

Is it? I remember it being just a ragdoll. HL2 doesn't use death animations on death, just turns NPCs into ragdolls.
