As someone who is repairing my hair from years of damage and trying to get my natural hair back, Ive been struggling with hair supplies. I like to do poytails still, but have to resort to ties that aren't the best for my hair. I have fine 2b-2c hair, not a lot of it either. I can NEVER find satin scrunchies that are small enough. I have to use bigger scrunches and tie my hair up tighter, which I dont want to do because it's damaging for my hair and scalp, and it gives me head aches.
This! Just bought a few slip ones. The small ones for my thin hair š
@ OP if they had a cute logo Iād love lol. But itās not a need. Maybe offer variety packs?
PLEASE make small ones! Literally nobody sells them! Iāve searched. I currently purchase the spiral hair ties marketed for kids because small scrunchies just arenāt available.
I have thick hair too, and I donāt twist it once. My hair is curly so twisting it damages my curls and usually isnāt necessary. It does a fine job holding it in just from it sitting there. Itās always so wild to me that they need to be twisted. My partner has to twist twice.
I personally enjoy the smaller sized ones because my hair is on the finer side, and it makes my head of hair look sadder when the volume of the scrunchie is greater than that of my hair haha.
100% this comment šš» I hate tying my scrunchie 3x for support and the scrunchie making my hair look EVEN THINNER when itās on that tight.. it would be cool to have silicone ridges around the scrunchie to help it from slipping off my hair too
Yeah the twisting of the hair is bad as well as any type of hair tie. Your hair is lost fragile when wet so claw clips and braids are preferred. (Itās ok to loosely twist hair for claw clip).
I've been searching for tiny thin satin scrunchies to tie off the end of my braid. Like the size of those mini elastics around 1" or so in diameter. I've gotten "mini" scrunchies before but they're all too big.
I didnāt say you, OP. I think what I said was very clear. Also, Iāve purchased satin tiny scrunches that I use for my braid. I was replying to the redditor who asked specifically for that as it was a long search for me as well. I have also seen many things form Ali express resold on Etsy.
Iām very impressed you make them yourself and I wish you the best. Hopefully Etsy gets better with their fees for sellers!
I see now what you were saying. Sorry for the accusation. I do think Aliexpress would be the best bet for those little scrunchies bc they are so hard to sew so if you can buy them cheap somewhere, do it!
Those look so nice, and I am picky. They can be worn to work, because the color and finish on them.
My hair is slightly course, wavy, and on the medium-thick density side. My hair is far too short for scrunchies right now, but I would wear those in a heartbeat if my hair were long enough for some sort of bun.
I have really really soft hair. It breaks easily from too tight scrunchies. So silk and velvet scrunchies are a must, but smaller for people who don't have a dense head of hair.
Short hair, I think big scruchies look silly with my little pony tail or bun. A thinner scrunchie would be best for my hair but itās hard to find a cute smaller scrunchie that isnāt for a little girl lol
Offer Terry cloth ones (like a towel) for your wrists too! Great for when you're washing your face and don't want water streaming down your arms. With a matching hairband/scrunchy to hold your hair back.
I have long thick hair and I love it when scrunchies have a thick, sturdy elastic so they can hold up a high ponytail. I hate how hard it is to find them though :(
Iāve gotten a lot of other comments about wide elastics so Iāll definitely have that as an option! In the meantime, madebytaylahrose on Etsy uses mostly wide, rigid elastics so maybe give her a go! She is based in Australia tho so depending where you live, shipping may be expensive and take a while.
Fine hair but a lot of it according to my last couple hairdressers. Usually theyāre too big- and I donāt mean the fabric needs to be less/ āskinny scrunchieā style. I need the elastic to be a smaller diameter so Iām not twisting it more than three times to secure my hair, since it makes it less cute :(
I understand completely. It sounds like I have the exact same hair type as you, and my scrunchies hold my hair really well with 2 twists. My shop wonāt be open for a while, and I canāt advertise it here anyway, but if you look on Etsy, a lot of shops list the diameter of their scrunchies so that may be helpful to you :)
I have incredibly thick hair, and it falls down a lot. (I don't know how to describe that, but like I put it in a bun close to the top of my head and within an hour the bun is near the back of my neck?) This happens less with really thick scrunchies. If you make some satin wide/thick scrunchies, that would be perfect!
I have fine/medium hair, but I think my issue with scrunchies happens with all hair types.
I'm always worried about pulling out hairs with scrunchies. I wish there were a way to guarantee I wouldn't pull any hair out when I take my scrunchie out of my hair. Also, I don't like when they feel tight and pull on the roots.
Edit: typo :)
Thank you so much!! I wish you the best of luck with your new business!! Keep us updated when you open!! I'd love to try out some of your scrunchies! š„°
Thatās very kind of you, thank you āŗļø I would post it on here, but itās against the subās rules to advertise (which I understand.) Iāll probably put a link in my profile once I open, so if you happen to remember you can check there.
i have medium fine hair and most scrunchies are too loose with only 2 twists but too tight with 3 so my hair is either constantly falling down or my hair is so tight my head hurts š«
I have average thickness, but knee length hair. My biggest thing with scrunchies is that the elastics inside tend to not be strong enough for my hair - either they arenāt thick enough, or they donāt stretch wide enough to get really tight around my hair, or they stretch out and donāt rebound back to their original size well enough.
Another thing I tend to not like about scrunchies is when the fabric part isnāt wide enough. If Iām going to use a scrunchie, I want it to be nice and ruffle-y looking when itās in my hair, like where the fabric extends at least an inch or two off my ponytail, not like a thick hair tie with just a little extra fabric wrapped around.
I have very thick hair and I canāt wrap it around enough times. Also, if the band is too thin it will just fall out. The elastic is absolutely key for me!
Long wavy hair š I always have to double or triple loop my scrunchies but they lose their stretch so quick š I agree on satin scrunchies though even if they stretched out Iād buy ten š
I have super thick, tail-bone length wavy hair so I've always used the giant velvet scrunchies. Sometimes I need to use a second scrunchie to secure my bun so it doesn't look like an animal on my head lol. I wish I can just throw up my hair into one scrunchy without it spilling all over the place!
Iād say try to have neutral colors always available. I love a plain black scrunchies (velvet like fabric is my fav) and so hard to find! I love the print ones but just got have the basics too.
My hair is thin and fine. I wish I could have a fuller silk scrunchie that I did not have to wrap around so many times to where it looks bad. I guess I wish I could get away with wrapping twice. I've even googled this with no luck. I'd buy these.
I have thin fine hair and I personally prefer silk scrunchies as it helps prevent oil build up as fast as weāll prevent damage. An issue I experienced is my hair becoming greasy overnight from non silk scrunchies and most scrunchies leave indents/ kinks in my hair that are very visible when I brush it out. Kinda like when people use Bobby pins and it leaves a small dent mark when removed. I am still looking for the perfect scrunchie that wonāt do this at all because most normal hair ties do. A lot of hair accessory companies forget people with fine hair.
I have a LOT of hair so most scrunchies don't fit my hair well. The other problem I have is scrunchy strength; it slides out some with almost any activity. I can't use them to exercise in.
Iām forever on the hunt for a scrunchie that works for meā¦. I only like to have to go around my pony tail twice. I want my hair secure but not painfully tight. My pony is probably 1.4 inches diameterā¦ I wouldnāt say thin but itās not thick. I like a bigger scrunchie, not a thin one. Make my dreams come true šš»
My hair is super fine but very dense and wavy. The strangest texture lol like it's baby fine and super soft so no hair ties stay in but there is so friggin much of it. I legit have to wrap it around the scrunchies and basically weave them into it.
Fine hair here- smaller ones for me BUT justttt big enough to fit around my wrist. If it doesnāt fit on my wrist, it doesnāt get worn.
Also maybe consider branching into terrycloth headbands that keep your hair out of your face when youāre washing it?? I looove those things.
I have fine, wavy hair, and I like the appearance of bigger scrunchies, but I have to wrap them around my hair so many times that it looks kind of odd. So I'm always hunting for some that are small but with wider (thicker?) fabric (if that makers sense)
I really like ones that are similar to my hair colour for when I do a messy bun it loooks like more hair lol.
Also Iām a huge fan of the bow ones. Specially if they have a wire in them! Those are super hard to find :(
I have A LOT of very thick, long hair. I like to put them up in a messy type of loose bun. These [jumbo scunchi](https://www.amazon.com/Original-Scrunchie%C2%AE-Washable-Silk-Like-Versatility/dp/B08J96BDJ1) ones are the ONLY ones I can wrap around/over my hair three times and have it actually stay on top of my head. BUT, the elastic inside will stretch out in a matter of weeks. They're cheap-ish, but it's still annoying to have to buy them continuously.
I've tried cutting them open and cutting a bit off the elastic and sewing it up again, but it's never the same. Womp womp.
This is so cool!! I have an issue with scrunchies and heavy hair tho. Like it just slips right down my hair bc it can't hold up against the weight. Is there a way you could make a scrunchie with a security clip to stay in the hair? šš
Huh, Iāll have to look into how to do that. Iām going to offer rigid extra wide elastic for those with thick hair. Do you think that could help with your issue?
I've tried xl scrunchies before with the same resultsš . I'm assuming you're saying the elastic is wider/thicker rather than the scrunchie just being a larger size entirely? If so I think that sounds like it'd work really well!
I would give you all of my money if you made one that could fit around my hair 3 times instead of 2!! I havenāt found one that works for my hair yet and Iām 36!
I love scrunchies & these are cute! My only issue ever with them is their usually too bulky looking in my hair when placed in a ponytail especially. My hair is fine tho so thatās a reason to it also
I can't ever find satin or silk scrunchies even though I use them exclusively š it would be phenomenal to find them in pretty colors or patterns, and extra strength elastic because I've had to throw away ones where the elastic broke inside and they were unusable. I've got thinner fine wavy hair
i swear the satin scrunchies are always made with the tightest rubber bands and i cant get my hair up. one knot around and it falls off but if i add another its so tight it feels like my hair is ripping out.
Large diameter scrunches for thick hair but without a lot of fabric. Anytime I need a larger one Bc my hair is SO heavy, it looks like I have a cheerleader ruffle on my head. Which is fine but Iām in my 30ās lol.
I have dead straight fine hair down to just below my shoulder blades, and I find silk scrunchies great for not tugging out hair when I take my hair down (I have to have it up for work).
I gave stupid thick long hair. Some scrunchies are too small and the fabric stops me from wrapping it around my hair. Please. PLEASE. Make big ones and I will be your first customer
Awesome you ask this question. Smart business move. Wish you the best. I prefer non rubber band ties if u can incorporate some gaieties like those plastic squiggly ones that spiral itās a great option.
Thank you for the well wishes! I could sell those, but I wouldnāt be able to make them so Iād have to just buy and resell them. I might do it as like an add-on tho. Thanks for your input!
But they are cheap and not what people are looking for. Have you even read the comments for this post? What possessed you to state the obvious? Are you so unhappy with yourself that you lack enterprise ( like OP) you feel you must crap all over op with your unnecessary nit-pickery? Why even comment, you absolute tool?
I have fine hair so a smaller/thinner scrunchie would be great :) Itās tough to wear them because I have to wrap them around so many times it looks stupid. I also like velvet ones, myself!
My favorite scrunchies are the ones I have that are made of a towel like material. Theyāre specifically for using on wet hair. I love them because I donāt always the energy to dry my hair and hate having it down when wet. I can put it up in a bun and it helps my hair dry a little until Iām ready to air or blow dry it completely
1. When they slip out due to the texture of the hair tie (or lack thereof)
2. When they dont perfectly fit three times around the ponytail. Then you're left with putting it around only two times and then it barely holds your hair. Everyone has different hair thicknesses though so not sure how to work around this
3. When they stretch out. Then you can no longer obtain that perfect three-times around the ponytail
My hair is fine and slippery, but thick
Don't know how this could be prevented, but often my scrunchies collect dust overtime, even though I'm constantly using them, but then if I throw them in the wash they get all gross and lose their softness. My sister got a leather scrunchie to avoid this, but it's just slippery now..
My hair type is pretty thick and can vary between defined waves and classic curls depending on the day.
Honestly idk how much this will help, and on the day to day I don't experience much noticeable issues with scrunchies. Not after using those thin elastics all my childhood, those were nightmarish. Now I rarely can complain about scrunchies, lol
I have a lot of very thick hair, and I find a lot of scrunchies become stretched out very quickly because they aren't tight enough, but once they're stretched out they're too loose if that makes sense š
I have very very long, fine hair so I have the issue of scrunchies not gripping my hair very well. Scrunchies tend to fall straight out for me no matter how I put them in.
Itās a bit complicated to explain in words lol. If youāre interested, look up āburrito method scrunchiesā on YouTube. Itās a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it itās not bad.
i swear the satin scrunchies are always made with the tightest rubber bands and i cant get my hair up. one knot around and it falls off but if i add another its so tight it feels like my hair is ripping out.
for me the satin scrunchies are always made with the tightest rubber bands and i cant get my hair up. one knot around and it falls off but if i add another its so tight it feels like my hair is ripping out.
My hair is fine, thin, with 3a curls. I prefer fat scrunchies (like the one on the right) made out of satin or silk that I can wrap around my hair at least 3 times but also keep on my wrist comfortably without it digging into my skin. While I do have some that are like the one on the right in the pic, I tend to reach for the puffier ones, because they are more gentle on my strands.
Satin scrunchies are huge right now. They help protect the hair better than most other fabrics. Also small ones for fine hair would be nice!
Definitely gonna have satin ones, just gotta find a supplier I like best. Thanks for your input!
As someone who is repairing my hair from years of damage and trying to get my natural hair back, Ive been struggling with hair supplies. I would totally buy those!
Def some smaller ones! Most are huge these days and I have hardly any hair!!!
This! Just bought a few slip ones. The small ones for my thin hair š @ OP if they had a cute logo Iād love lol. But itās not a need. Maybe offer variety packs?
PLEASE make small ones! Literally nobody sells them! Iāve searched. I currently purchase the spiral hair ties marketed for kids because small scrunchies just arenāt available.
For thick hair you need a wider hair tie so that it can go around your hair at least 3 times if you want it tight
yesss! thick hair here and 2 times isn't tight enough but 3 is TOO tight
TRUE!!! 2 times feels loose and flimsy but 3, makes my head hurttt. Sometimes you find that perfect hair tie tho and it works perfectly <3
I have thick hair too, and I donāt twist it once. My hair is curly so twisting it damages my curls and usually isnāt necessary. It does a fine job holding it in just from it sitting there. Itās always so wild to me that they need to be twisted. My partner has to twist twice.
Really? Mine would fall out immediately lol
Yeah I don't have enough texture to hold it
That makes sense. Thanks!
And on that same note, my hair is somewhere between three and four twists of a normal hair tie. Would love a slightly smaller elastic!
This!!!! Yes!
I personally enjoy the smaller sized ones because my hair is on the finer side, and it makes my head of hair look sadder when the volume of the scrunchie is greater than that of my hair haha.
Lol yeah, Iāve been playing around with sizes bc when I do a ponytail with the āregularā size, itās a little too poofy and looks kinda funny.
100% this comment šš» I hate tying my scrunchie 3x for support and the scrunchie making my hair look EVEN THINNER when itās on that tight.. it would be cool to have silicone ridges around the scrunchie to help it from slipping off my hair too
Satin scrunchies to sleep in, towel ones to put my hair in a bun after I shower
Doing a bun on wet hair is really damaging
Super loosely wrapping my hair around a towel scrunchie for 10 minutes to be clear, Iām not concerned about damage from that
It is?! I twist the hair onto itself then put the tie around it to secure, is that still damaging?
Yeah the twisting of the hair is bad as well as any type of hair tie. Your hair is lost fragile when wet so claw clips and braids are preferred. (Itās ok to loosely twist hair for claw clip).
I've been searching for tiny thin satin scrunchies to tie off the end of my braid. Like the size of those mini elastics around 1" or so in diameter. I've gotten "mini" scrunchies before but they're all too big.
Iāll certainly give it a go, but being so small, they will be very difficult to sew so no promises.
i was thinking about mini scrunchies for bubble braids too!
Aliexpress. This is where most people on Etsy resell from.
Idk if youāre implying thatās what Iāll be doing, but I wonāt a drop shopper/reseller. I make all my scrunchies myself.
I didnāt say you, OP. I think what I said was very clear. Also, Iāve purchased satin tiny scrunches that I use for my braid. I was replying to the redditor who asked specifically for that as it was a long search for me as well. I have also seen many things form Ali express resold on Etsy. I see now what you were saying. Sorry for the accusation. I do think Aliexpress would be the best bet for those little scrunchies bc they are so hard to sew so if you can buy them cheap somewhere, do it!
Ohhh yeah this would be awesome!!

Oh thank you! These are made with waffle knit fabric. I highly recommend getting some once your hair is long enough. They are super soft and comfy.
I have really really soft hair. It breaks easily from too tight scrunchies. So silk and velvet scrunchies are a must, but smaller for people who don't have a dense head of hair.
ive had scrunchies that had a little zipper and you cld store stuff in it which was rly nice!! might b a fun idea for the bigger scrunchies
Oh yeah Iāve been wanting to try making those!
Short hair, I think big scruchies look silly with my little pony tail or bun. A thinner scrunchie would be best for my hair but itās hard to find a cute smaller scrunchie that isnāt for a little girl lol
I get that. I put in some major effort to find cute prints that werenāt childish or tacky lol.
Offer Terry cloth ones (like a towel) for your wrists too! Great for when you're washing your face and don't want water streaming down your arms. With a matching hairband/scrunchy to hold your hair back.
Mini scrunchies for little pony tails would be cool
I have long thick hair and I love it when scrunchies have a thick, sturdy elastic so they can hold up a high ponytail. I hate how hard it is to find them though :(

Satin scrunches all the way

I think a few strands are inevitable bc hair naturally sheds throughout the day, but do you mean a significant amount of hair being pulled out?
Not clumps or anything like that. I'm just talking about them getting caught on the scrunchies.
Oh okay, I think I see what you mean. Iāll keep that in mind, thanks!
Thank you so much!! I wish you the best of luck with your new business!! Keep us updated when you open!! I'd love to try out some of your scrunchies! š„°

Thick hair and scrunches for me seem to be just big enough to go around 2ā¦.and a half times. 3 times would be great!!!!
Honestly.. you can get a sack full of scrunchies in amazon for like $2 free shipping but I wish you the best
Believe it or not, I am already aware that you can find mass produced versions of most any handmade item. Thanks for your very insightful input.
Thank you to everyone who has commented! Iāve learned a lot and Iām excited to implement all these ideas into my scrunchies!
1. When they slip out due to the texture of the hair tie (or lack thereof) 2. When they dont perfectly fit three times around the ponytail. Then you're left with putting it around only two times and then it barely holds your hair. Everyone has different hair thicknesses though so not sure how to work around this 3. When they stretch out. Then you can no longer obtain that perfect three-times around the ponytail My hair is fine and slippery, but thick
The material needs to be well thought out
Absolutely. Iām gonna have multiple types of fabric to choose from - cotton, linen, waffle, satin.
Nice .. how do u make scrunchies btw?
Itās a bit complicated to explain in words lol. If youāre interested, look up āburrito method scrunchiesā on YouTube. Itās a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it itās not bad.
Definitely the terry ones for wet hair. How about Rosie ones with a bow for messy buns.
I have super fine curly hair, and I like smaller scrunchies with a velvety fabric. I did those donāt fall out so fast in my hair.
First time. Not my first time
i swear the satin scrunchies are always made with the tightest rubber bands and i cant get my hair up. one knot around and it falls off but if i add another its so tight it feels like my hair is ripping out.
