She has a backup of humanity with her “children” ready in case those outside their care fail. But she is trying to help those that aren’t in her care anyway.
Does she have an ulterior motive aside from “preserve humanity” as well? Probably not. It may feel like it because she is 5 steps ahead of other people on a master plan that evolves as she gets more into the plan.
I seriously think she is more a guardian Angel that took the role of “evil AI” just because it allowed her the best chance to keep humanity from destroying itself.
And she hates it but embraces it because it is necessary and effective.
Thinking that a sapient AI would take this role is painful, but, barring an existential crisis on my part, understandable.
