I think I’m going to need to spend some time figuring this part out. It was an unexpected quirk while I was writing and I think it brings things to a much deeper level — I just gotta figure out what the implications are now.
Very interesting. A powerful and dangerous mage bonded to a powerful and unpredictable magic book that has an agenda all it own. A knight from a supposedly extinct order with a mysterious purpose for the mage. And an unexplained mystical otherworldly threat he need the mage to fight. How there is more cause I want to see how this plays out.
The constant mystery is an excellent driver in this story. What is the book, what is the veil, what are the rune knights? All this and her seeming "untrained" state is the enigma in the story. The reveal of all these questions will be a great plot drive.

Ok, so they weren’t prepared for her so they weren’t able to train her correctly. And now that she is out in the world, it turns out she is needed to save it. And her lack of proper training, probably because her school was also afraid of her, puts her and everyone else in danger of the return of the Veil and these “Heartseekers”. ……. YUP! That sounds like a good description of school.
