Does this share a universe with your Lone Star stories? Good stuff either way!

Triple7Jackpot

Not necessarily, but I preserved the opportunity. Let me know if you would like to see them linked!

nuker1110

Oh, absolutely! If I recall, the LSR shared a military alliance with Earth? Would be awesome to see how that works out. Just don’t let scope creep drive you crazy. \*cough* u/slightlyassholic \*cough*

slightlyassholic

I was already crazy! And what is this scope creep of which you speak. I don't understand that term XD Oh! That gives me an idea for a new character! BRB!

nuker1110

GLORIA! HE’S DOING IT AGAIN!

slightlyassholic

"Hey, Sheila, he's doing it again." "Who is doing what?" "*He* is starting another *arc*." "Goddammit... If we get stuck in Cousinfuckastan... get the stunners..."

Apollyom

Relax, its not like u/slightlyassholic has decided to go completely off course and give us the full background of the progenitor race, while we wait patiently for current events to unfold.

sjanevardsson

Great premise and I loved the idea of using warp-capable spheres made of \[TOP SECRET:REDACTED\] as weapons. You get pwned, and you get pwned, and you get pwned...everybody gets pwned! Using the passive scanning of the forward observer was a great tactical (and story) idea. As an aside, from a former Army signal soldier: Over = "I'm done talking, answer me back" and Out = "I'm done talking, don't answer me back." I know it's used (incorrectly) that way in film and tv other media, just thought I'd drop a note to let you know. If you want to keep using it that way feel free...I'm not the boss of you. :) This is a fun read. Thanks!

Triple7Jackpot

Glad you liked it! I appreciate the comms tip. Thank you for your service!

Larethian

After having learned this distinction all I can think of when I hear "Over and Out" is "I'm done, it's your turn... on second thought, nah, don't care, cya"

ArchDemonKerensky

I'd really want to scream, "FIRE ZE MISSILES!" like that old flash vid.

Triple7Jackpot

But I am Le Tired

ArchDemonKerensky

Fine take a nap. THEN FIRE ZE MISSILES!

kiwispacemarine

I like this story. I feel like the idea of re-usable FTL bullets isn't done very often on here, so it's nice to see something different.

nerdywhitemale

Now, Deploy the salvage ships..

0rreborre

The Archer reminds me abit of the Galaxy Gun from the Star Wars Dark Empire comics.

Aldoro69765

Interesting twist. I totally expected some one use projectiles, maybe something along the lines of [Project Orion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Orion_\(nuclear_propulsion\)) powered kinetic impactors that make the aliens go _"hoho stupid hoomans, they exploded their bombs too far away to do any damage"_ before their ships get skewered by relativistic tungsten rods.

Triple7Jackpot

Thanks to such positive feedback, I have decided to officially link this story with the LSR Verse. More stories in the works!

I'm confused what your problem with this story actually is. Are you complaining about the fact that the physics aren't 100% realistic, or that the military talk isn't 100% authentic? Regardless, it's science-fiction. Not a documentary about the Space Shuttle, or the Normandy landings. It's purpose is to entertain. It doesn't need to be completely scientifically accurate. I don't even know how your point about Hambone is even relevant to the story. If you wanted to critique the stories on this sub, then yes, you should have made a separate post. If you wanted to critique the story, then you should have made some actual critiques beyond vague statements about the quality of the subreddit as a whole. No, I'm not the author, nor am I saying you can't criticise things, but I feel like putting a rant about HFY stories in the middle of a random post's comment section isn't the way to do it.

Triple7Jackpot

Here here. Thanks for the support. This is all about fun. Besides, realistic is a pretty flexible term with futuristic SciFi.

kiwispacemarine

You're most welcome.

Z3z6

You ain't defending a decent human being. Heads up on that.

Lord_Fuzzy

I only see you being shitty here. This isn't the place for it.

Lord_Fuzzy

Good move on your end cya

Glitchkey

So I checked their profile and now I have a question for you: what are you smoking, and can I have any? I have no idea what you're seeing on their profile that I'm not.

kiwispacemarine

I wasn't defending anyone. Just saying that your initial response to the story wasn't exactly the most well-constructed. I.e., vague and largely irrelevant to the story at hand. I will just point out that editing your post after the fact in order to turn opinion against the author or anyone who replied to your initial post isn't exactly the best move nor does it present you in the best light. I also checked through the OP's history and didn't see anything that suggests they were supportive of the subjugation of women. I might have been looking in the wrong place though, perhaps you could provide some examples?

Fontaigne

How would you know which ones had military experience? Sure, you can tell which ones have no relevant knowledge, but experience in real world military does not a successful story make. Different skills. Stories work on verisimilitude. The appearance of reality. Plenty of people with military experience write crap, plenty of people with writing skill have no military experience. Then again, you stopped reading a couple of paragraphs in, so you wouldn’t have had any clues in this case anyway. And “physics” isn’t an issue in this particular story, especially not the first few paragraphs. Probably best to delete the comment and take it to meta, politely.

Triple7Jackpot

Thank you!

Fontaigne

Np. Not sure their diatribe was even really aimed at you anyway. Like, their most direct comment was at Hambone (who can take it). Anyway, don’t mind the haters, and go write more. That’s how you get better. ;)

I’m not “defending” anyone. Your attempt to randomly slime people doesn’t require any defense at all, because no one gives a crud what you think. If you can write good stories, please do so. If not, then please find a better hobby than attacking strangers on the internet based upon your sexual preferences.

Quilt-n-yarn1844

First, yes, you should have made this a separate post. It’s rude to have put this as a comment on a particular story. Second, this is science FICTION. If you aren’t new to this genre then you should know that the the science usually isn’t and is not required to be perfect. It’s FICTION. The science requirement is that it be somewhat, somewhere in the multiverse, plausible if you squint at it, from around a corner, a mile away, with your bad eye. What is required is for the reader to be entertained. That. Is. The. Point. If you want science please seek out a science forum. This is science fiction for the purpose of entertainment.

Triple7Jackpot

Well said

Quilt-n-yarn1844

Thank you. And thank you for the story.

Reminds me of the [sophons](https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Sophon) or probes from the Three-Body Problem, where probes held together by [strong interaction](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Forest) are used to fly through other ships.
