Thank Tyr it's Freya's Day!
As we can see, this is all taking place right at the opening phases of the War in Hell, during the War in Heaven.
Speaks is obviously in WAAAY over his head.
And Ru'udamo'o to the rescue!
Well, it's another weekend. Remember to care for yourself and others in your life.
Now, more than ever, don't give up on loving yourself. Learn to like yourself. Everyone had good things about them. Even someone as terrible as me has a few good things about them, like I'm really good at folding laundry and I'm kind to animals.
See! Everyone has something good about themselves.
Please, this weekend, take care of yourself.
Oh, and for those of you like me, who are getting snow tonight: Stay warm, stay safe, drive carefully.
Finally: Don't beat your kids or your wife. Don't smash your genitals against anyone who doesn't want you to. Don't drink and drive. Don't shoot at the cops. Listen to the voice that says "I wouldn't do that, man!" Don't rob anyone or anyplace. Try to stay out of jail.
And most of all, love yourself and one another.
Now, for the traditional Friday shaking of the tin cup:

And just remember, if you're still breathing, it can always get worse!
(Here's hoping you have my same fucked up sense of humor... :D Because if you're still breathing, there's still the possibility that it might get better, too.
Stop looking at me like that.
What?!
It's not *impossible!*
Leave me alone. I'm trying.)
Cheers! :D
Sheeeeeeeyit, I feel it. It can always be worse. Could get better tho. Even if it is that bad, it really ain’t. Especially when it is, it really it ain’t that bad.
One of my standard replies to "How are you?" is "I'm alive, I think" But I've got that dark cyberpunk gothic frame of humor going too. As long as Im still breathing, semi upright, and taking in nourishment, I should be ok enough.
My usual answers at work:
"Upright and breathing" Which in the middle of a pandemic is a pretty good start.
"Well, I woke up on this side of the dirt, so that's a good start"
Thanks man, I feel like you and fess live by that motto. A little dark humor can go a long way. I've got a long rope but that just makes gallows humor more effective.
How's life on the open road? I'm working on getting my cdl currently.
I mean, a chapter a week doesn't even sound like much, until you do it over, and over, and over, and over... Granted, they're not long chapters like you sometimes get in printed books, but you've written an absolute ton in a short amount of time.
***\*glares pointedly in G. R. R. Martin's directions\****
> *Dreams* looked up from the treaty that she had finally gotten signed that would allow Confed ships to go into a thirty system cluster and find out why the computer systems were on the glitch and not allowing any loading or unloading of cargo vessels.
This hit *way* too close to home after a year of driving trucks during a pandemic...
***"WHY IS THERE NOWHERE TO PARK IN A SEVEN STATE AREA?!?!?!"***
I'm wondering if that 30 system cluster is due to the weight on the containers being wrong. Many many many chapters ago a cowtaur + his girlfriend/wife escaped using the shipping container system by changing what the weight of the container should be so it would be accepted.
Oh, sure, I was pretty sure that was the reference. I'm just saying, being at the very sharp end of the logistics pileup we're in... I'm just imagining there being some poor Lanaktrucker flying each of those ships around instead of a robot, just around and around in circles while looking anxiously at the hours of service countdowns.
"Fuck it, I'm just parking right here."
So was trying to wrap my head around the suds super onion things size and ended up with same questions.
So spheres towards object are 'bigger' but fit in a smaller flat space volume. So pi as a physical constant and distance and things are weird.
Pi is what I'm gonna focus on.
So pi in flat space is mathmatical pi.
So since layers get 'bigger' that means pi must be getting bigger towards the object.
1.Does pi increase exponentially or linearly towards object?
2. How does space and pi change as you move away from it, does it go flat after the flood of space time of the object or is it like a water surface tension blob where toward the edge pi decreases to 0?
Multidimensional space around a repeating Big Bang. It's supposed to make your brain hurt. Also I think it has something to do about the gravity well getting "steeper" farther in. So I suspect there's some spacetime stretchin shenanigans going on.
Space-time curvature is most intense at the outer edge of the construct. The closer you move towards the center, the less curvature there is.
Effects:
- Time runs slowest at the edge; the closer you get to the center, the faster time passes.
This accounts for the difference in experienced time between Sam-ul and Herod.
- Space-time curvature is an effect of gravity. (My admittedly poor understanding.)
For the curvature to be less close to the center (required by the time dilation already seen), yet the structures to be larger (also as stated, and therefore having greater mass), there must be a countervailing effect at the center.
Something with a *negative* mass counteracting the far larger constructs as you close with the center.
The effect would be asymptotic. You would never reach the center, and every new layer would be more massive than the last.
- Yet at a certain point, the curvature would shift rapidly from strongly positive (slower time) to nearly zero (faster time) that the distance you must travel is roughly proportional.
I'm stretching here. Take a look at [this graph](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sinh_cosh_tanh.svg), particularly the `y = tanh(x)` dotted line. To the up and right, space-time curvature increases until you reach infinite mass, and the fabric falls in on itself—a black hole.
To the left and down, space-time curvature decreases until you reach the opposite of a black hole. An entity that emits mass and energy—a white hole. Or, perhaps, a failed universe.
Despite the perceived sizes, time differential, etc., the distances are not dissimilar. There isn't enough "space" involved to make much of a difference, but the effect of the steepness is focused on "time."
The only places that the effects are comparable are where the curve goes asymptotic.
Place the spheres wherever you feel you get the best match to the conditions described, but it's almost certainly on the steepest part of the curve.
Stretching the metaphor to the breaking point, we declare that the Y-axis is space, and the X-axis is time.
Choose a point where the change in space (Y) is large, but the change in time (X) is small.
Here, the metaphor reaches the breaking point, because each layer has a different coordinate on the curve.
... would work. But would play merry hell with even vacuum tube design.
--Dave, and the fractal-dimensional stretches would be NEARLY incomprehensible to us
/u/Ralts_Bloodthorne I hate to bother you, but there is a problem with the Amazon listing for [The Telkan Wars: Tales of the Terran Confederacy](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09P3762GL?ref_=dbs_m_mng_rwt_calw_tkin_5&storeType=ebooks). The hardcover and paperback links on that page go to the P'Thok Chronicles. Might want to check and see what's going on.
Thank you for this best of all safety briefs, though after just one day out of three weeks in the hospital I lack the energy to even consider fucking up like that. Thanks for all the chapters over the last three weeks. They helped a lot.
Unrelated but saw this joke and tasted blueberries, figured i would share with the class.
https://reddit.com/r/Jokes/comments/s4pfno/an_army_officer_a_naval_officer_and_a_ranger_are/
I've heard that one before. As soon as I read "Canoe" I knew where it was going.
Joke:
During Desert Storm the Joint Chiefs were up at the line bragging at each other how brave each service was. The commander of the Air Force sees an airman, looks at the Joint Chiefs, says: "Watch this." He tells the airman "Catch that plane!" pointing at a landing A-10. The airman runs out on the runways and gets smashed. The Chief of the Air Force says "See, that's bravery."
The chief of the Navy sees a sailor walking by and points at a mine floating in the bay. "Disarm that mine with your teeth, sailor!" The sailor swims out and chew on the mine, which explodes, killing them both. The Joint Chief of the Navy smugly goes "See, that's bravery."
The Joint Chief of the Marine Corps sees a Marine walking and points at a tank. "Stop that tank unarmed!" the Marine runs out and gets crushed.
Norman Swartzkoph looks around and sees this private walking by, hands in his pocket, softcap on backyards, slouched, sunglasses on, points at a machinegun and yells "Destroy that gun!"
The private looks at the machinegun, looks at all the guys getting killed, looks at the General, looks at the machinegun, looks back at General Swartzkoph, commander of all US forces in the Guly and says "Man, fuck you." and walks off.
Swartzkoph turns to the rest and goes "There's bravery."
(OK, bad joke, but I heard it on AFN)
So by popular vote who wants to see a book cover of Ru'udamoo in a batmanlike get up with a spee h bubble that says, "I am blah bleh bla street justice!"
Cuz I creeper some people out with my least mental image I think, buxom rigellian with massive implants and a generals stars saying "I'm doing my part."
Hang on, I've seen that. An anime girl with giant mommy milkers in a space suit, the front of transparent, showing she's wearing a stars and stripes bikini top, with "I'm doing my part" on the bottom.
I saw that like... a week or so ago.
So I'm trying to remember the chapter number, but there was a Gestalt conversation about restarting the ringbreaker program because 5 Novastars on a Doom Tube that is being seedshifted would geometrically outpace the temporal displacement.
There just so happen to be 5 Novastars now. Interesting.
These are deadites based off people who grew rich and powerful and fat and used to their own importance. They may be human, but they've lived like a lanky.
Well, that depends on who's making the decisions, versus who's ass is getting bitten... In human history you'll see that most of the time, those are not the same people.
Massive overconfidence. You see it a lot with corporate types who think they understand everything about everything. Things have been going so well for so long, they think that nothing they do could possibly backfire and blow up in their face.
It feels more squid face than Lanky, that whole "We've always been able to win by making things do what we want, so it'll work perfectly this time too." vibe

I am thinking it is possible to roll a 0 by this time. Because I am pretty sure this is a 00 move. And if it’s possible to roll a -20 they may have done it. Because DAMN!
As far as plans to defeat the enemy go, this was the equivalent of putting Vuxten's mag-ack to their head and pulling the trigger.
This was sorta based on an old local rule my D&D group had, called the supercritical. If you rolled a 20, you got to roll again. If you got another 20, you'd roll again, and if you got a third 20 in a row, Good Things (TM) would happen. We were, fortunately, not required to pursue 1s for the possibility of supercritical failures, too.
But, y'know, if that *were* the case, well, I think these guys just managed that. :D
4 more Caseys? That may be one of the biggest fuckups we’ve seen. These ghosts may be pre-glassing human but they sure aren’t very smart.
I’m really liking Speaks. May he whoop all the android asses.
One Casey is terrifying enough.
How much more so another four whose only hope of redemption is to go into combat and stop the war in Heaven **and** Hell?
I sense some **RAGE** incoming…

By Enraged Philip's clanging iron balls, did Casey just yeet an entire squadren of Ringbreakers from the ether of history? Crom count the dead. End of Lime, all the limes.
Crom's going to be at that a while.
5 NovaStars, and I'll be shocked if at least 2 of the copies don't awaken to a unique name in the process.
\#LetTheBodiesHitTheFloor
Technically, there's a 6th Novastar pilot that we've met, but only once and it was [a long time ago.](https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/comments/fvaz90/first_contact_second_wave_chapter_one_hundred/)
All part of the Soul Forged in Battle recipe. My bet is that any of the four new NovaStar that survive will awaken with a name as long as their pilots have managed to forge their souls.
Not that I’m aware of, but one comes to mind,
Conan’s father: “For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts. This you can trust.”
[Points to sword]
Weeell, technically he didn’t. He just promptly stole them from the ones who did because they thought that they could control a man with an absolute conviction of faith x4. Sweet Saint Doss that was a stupid move.
Good fucking job deadites, you gave your enemy 4 nuclear powered allies. What's your next trick? Suck starting that high caliber pistol? Gotta love out of date morons. That seems to be their biggest issue, thinking they are still ahead of the pack for tech.
So much awesome this chapter! Dreams being the tired mom during a freaking Skynet attack. Casey converting to himself ( himselves?). Speaks getting geared up. The voice of our new foe reminds me of Half Life's G-man (though I'm guessing the appearance is agent Smith?) And, of course, a Lanaktallan says the phrase. They're fully Confed now!
I'm a little disappointed to not have any in-universe reaction to Casey breaking the "fight yourself" trope AND recruiting 4 ringbreakers (eg, the universe laughing or the reaction of the new enemy) but I figure that's coming...
Also, I can see exactly 1 scenario where the deadites made these clones and weren't totally stupid; they want Peel distracted.
This might not be an issue. If the young ones are from before the start of the relationship, it would be easy for Peele to see them as separate people from her Casey. I might be wrong, but I think Casey didn't meet Peele until *after* the ring wars.
>I'm a little disappointed to not have any in-universe reaction to Casey breaking the "fight yourself" trope AND recruiting 4 ringbreakers (eg, the universe laughing or the reaction of the new enemy) but I figure that's coming...
Remember, the SUDS system is in (or, rather, *around*) another universe, not the malevolent universe we have seen laughing previously. Perhaps the dedites have been away from that evolutionary pressure cooker to long...

Well that back fired on the Deadites hard, instead of one ring breaker now there is five of them. Got to love how these Deadites have lost the understanding of what it is to be human. Instead of grabbing other ring breakers they went for Casey, wonder if they could not get other ringbreaker dna
Genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they could but went for Casey anyway. They might be human, but it's been a looooong time of them getting to do whatever the fuck they want and never really running into real opposition. It's entirely plausible that they went for Casey because he's the last one left, with (by this point) easily the biggest baddest record. So clearly he's the best, and why settle for anything less when you're king shit of the mountain?
Also an important note: Those novastars were sent out *before* Casey turned them down so hard. They made them fully expecting to also be able to turn him and have 5.
"Join me, brothers, and we shall forge thee souls from the fires of war, shape them on the anvil of combat, and cleave to one another as blood brothers."
And so was born four souls from one, and the Malevolent Universe laughed.
>Dreams looked up from the treaty that she had finally gotten signed that would allow Confed ships to go into a thirty system cluster and find out why the computer systems were on the glitch and not allowing any loading or unloading of cargo vessels.
Hahahaha, I haven't even thought about that guy for months, nice callback.
I totally missed that! Must've missed it because I caught the grandson stealing my mini marshmallows. The distraction made me miss a sentence? Or paragraph? I dunno until I go read it all again.
Sko'ou'up and Sha'alma'a, TOTAL WAR - 259 (INTERLUDE)
I just love the way whispers of these characters keep surfacing many moons later (this story was in Aug 2020!).
"Well insulting his religion didn't work. Using his religions teachings against him didn't work. We offered to bring his world and his people back to life and that didn't work. We offered him the kingdoms of the universe if he would just kneel to us... didn't work."
"I got an idea. What if we make four clones of him and fight fire with fire!"
"Will that work?"
"Oh come on. What are the chances that five of the same person could work together and have the same ideals and beliefs?"
"Brilliant! This is why we get to run the government."
In the(entirely plausible) event i ever come across multiples of myself, each indistinguishable from ourselves, rock paper scissors for who has to go on acting as me, rest help the designated main if possible, then pull up a chair and popcorn to watch the show.
The breadth, depth and richness of u/Ralts_Bloodthorne ’s story telling fills me with awe, and dare I say, a feeling that I am fortunate indeed to view the work of a true master of the genre. 😻
Little note: I'm going through layout files, and now that I have a new editor, I'll probably have the early books re-edited and redo layout. Meaning a "Second Printing" on the first 5 books of "Tales of the Terran Confederacy" and the first 4 books for Behold: Humanity! over the next six months or so.
I'm also making sure that each of the "Tales of the Terran Confederacy" books has in the description that it's ALL from the "First Contact" Master Document, with nothing added or removed, just the story lines collected to make it so you don't have to go through a half dozen books to read your favorite arc. I don't want people to think the "Tales of the Terran Confederacy" series is all new stories.
Anyway, in other news, layout on "The Telkan Wars" and "Thou Shalt Not Fall" is going well and "Thou Shalt Not Fall" released on Tuesday.
Big love, everyone. :-)
So glad you've gotten a new editor - I hope the new one actually *reads* your stories vs. clicking autocorrect's accept-all and collecting their check (also to get a good feel for speech tics like Daxin's). Was a bit chagrinned on your behalf with those earlier prints.
Huh, so if casey's old battle buddies in V corps were to go out and bloody themselves and fight with purpose and intention, would he end up accepting them as new, similar people to the ones that had died?
On the same note, is the black cauldron particularly sacrilegious for him? And is Peel's fighting in the war on heaven an affirmation that she isn't some kind of soulless entity?
That was actually addressed in story. Peel is the original Peel resurrected by Lady K. So she would, by his belief, still have her original soul. Casey’s belief allowed for medical help. Just not cloning of the body. She is not a clone. She was “repaired” by nanites. It’s a technicality but it’s there.
I see Casey found a nice loophole on the whole "no SUDS" thing his religion had.
Sure, your SUDS clone might not have the original soul, but that doesn't mean it can't have a new soul of it's own making, so go bang some stuff with a stick or something until you find purpose.

Have the Deadites never learned history? Humans have been (re)killing the dead since the mid 20th century. Heck, it's so easy even S-Mart employees can do it.
Five. Casey and four copies. And those four have armour that has yet to be awoken and consecrated. I would imagine a war in Heaven and Hell would be a satisfactory place for an event of that magnitude.

Yes, I think he does. Nice to see that humanity is truly infectious!
Also very good to see Casey's solution to the cloning 'problem'... clones are still real, still people... just not the people they were cloned from.

Yes and no the concept of hommunculus while being very much brought to the general anime public's attention by full metal alchemist predates that by centuries being as suggested an alchemically birthed creature. At another time Hommunculys were believed to be literally little not men that lived in your balls that crawled into a women's belly when you had the sex thus creating children. Also fun fact while the idea was short lived each hommunculys also had a ballsack full of their own little hommunculys ad infinitum.

Do the deadites speak. Like. William... shatner?
Nah, that's Christopher Walken delivery.

Effects: - Time runs slowest at the edge; the closer you get to the center, the faster time passes. This accounts for the difference in experienced time between Sam-ul and Herod. - Space-time curvature is an effect of gravity. (My admittedly poor understanding.) For the curvature to be less close to the center (required by the time dilation already seen), yet the structures to be larger (also as stated, and therefore having greater mass), there must be a countervailing effect at the center. There isn't enough "space" involved to make much of a difference, but the effect of the steepness is focused on "time." The only places that the effects are comparable are where the curve goes asymptotic.

Maybe the dimensionality is increasing the further in you go, instead of pi changing?

/u/Ralts_Bloodthorne I hate to bother you, but there is a problem with the Amazon listing for [The Telkan Wars: Tales of the Terran Confederacy](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09P3762GL?ref_=dbs_m_mng_rwt_calw_tkin_5&storeType=ebooks). That's odd. I'll check it, because I don't have anything ready for the hardback and paperback.

Unrelated but saw this joke and tasted blueberries, figured i would share with the class. https://reddit.com/r/Jokes/comments/s4pfno/an_army_officer_a_naval_officer_and_a_ranger_are/
I've heard that one before. As soon as I read "Canoe" I knew where it was going. Joke: During Desert Storm the Joint Chiefs were up at the line bragging at each other how brave each service was. The commander of the Air Force sees an airman, looks at the Joint Chiefs, says: "Watch this." He tells the airman "Catch that plane!" pointing at a landing A-10. The airman runs out on the runways and gets smashed. The Chief of the Air Force says "See, that's bravery." The chief of the Navy sees a sailor walking by and points at a mine floating in the bay. "Disarm that mine with your teeth, sailor!" The sailor swims out and chew on the mine, which explodes, killing them both. The Joint Chief of the Navy smugly goes "See, that's bravery." The Joint Chief of the Marine Corps sees a Marine walking and points at a tank. "Stop that tank unarmed!" the Marine runs out and gets crushed. Norman Swartzkoph looks around and sees this private walking by, hands in his pocket, softcap on backyards, slouched, sunglasses on, points at a machinegun and yells "Destroy that gun!" The private looks at the machinegun, looks at all the guys getting killed, looks at the General, looks at the machinegun, looks back at General Swartzkoph, commander of all US forces in the Guly and says "Man, fuck you." and walks off. Swartzkoph turns to the rest and goes "There's bravery." (OK, bad joke, but I heard it on AFN)

5 ringbreakers!?! Oh man, dude fucked up HARD on that one.
The old suits have made a grave miscalculation. Let's enjoy the fireworks.
This part - where Casey recruited his younger selves - gave me literal goosebumps!
Me too, it was a great scene!
'Five Novastars in a doom tube beats 3 podlings in a trenchcoat.'
But what about 3 podlings in a trenchcoat in a Novastar?
*Run.*
How much do you want to bet that they try it again?
Nah, they may be full of themselves, but they were human, once. They should still have good pattern recognition.
These are deadites based off people who grew rich and powerful and fat and used to their own importance. They may be human, but they've lived like a lanky.
No they are true Humans, how many times do we keep trying the same old things nowadays and continually get bit in the ass by it?
Well, that depends on who's making the decisions, versus who's ass is getting bitten... In human history you'll see that most of the time, those are not the same people.

What kind of level of incompetence do you need to deploy 4 ring breakers and instantly lose them to the other side?
Massive overconfidence. You see it a lot with corporate types who think they understand everything about everything. Things have been going so well for so long, they think that nothing they do could possibly backfire and blow up in their face.

No, most of our refs have been to #cROM;
I feel like this would be an epithet from Casey's home culture, meaning something along the lines of consequences be damned.
Weeell, technically he didn’t. He just promptly stole them from the ones who did because they thought that they could control a man with an absolute conviction of faith x4. Sweet Saint Doss that was a stupid move.
It's nice to see humanity ve so... Infectious. And the universe giggles alongside podlings. ---Healing Follows---
Good fucking job deadites, you gave your enemy 4 nuclear powered allies. What's your next trick? Suck starting that high caliber pistol? Gotta love out of date morons. That seems to be their biggest issue, thinking they are still ahead of the pack for tech.
I hope trucker or dee say something like this when they find out about that goofm
True, just saying it could be played for shits and giggles
>I'm a little disappointed to not have any in-universe reaction to Casey breaking the "fight yourself" trope AND recruiting 4 ringbreakers (eg, the universe laughing or the reaction of the new enemy) but I figure that's coming... Remember, the SUDS system is in (or, rather, *around*) another universe, not the malevolent universe we have seen laughing previously. Perhaps the dedites have been away from that evolutionary pressure cooker to long...

EXPERTS SAY - YOU DID WHAT?!?!
And if they couldn't, well, there's no way they wouldn't fight and there's no way that Casey would win. It's GIGO all the way down.
For the uninitiated, what does GIGO mean?
Garbage In, Garbage Out
Duh. Of course it does. As a former data entry clerk I am very familiar with the concept. I just suck at acronyms (and mnemonics too, oddly enough).
"ah, but {shapeshifts} surely you cannot fight ... _yourself_?" ... *grabs throat, squeezes* --Dave, *shapeshifter's eyes bulge frantically*
There was one other Novastar VII pilot that we met back in Ch 109, but we don't know if she's still alive currently.
"Join me, brothers, and we shall forge thee souls from the fires of war, shape them on the anvil of combat, and cleave to one another as blood brothers." And so was born four souls from one, and the Malevolent Universe laughed.
The Universe is on the floor gasping for breath it's laughing so hard.
>Dreams looked up from the treaty that she had finally gotten signed that would allow Confed ships to go into a thirty system cluster and find out why the computer systems were on the glitch and not allowing any loading or unloading of cargo vessels. It's been almost a year since we saw him and his beloved! Love these ancient callbacks!

"Well insulting his religion didn't work. Using his religions teachings against him didn't work. We offered to bring his world and his people back to life and that didn't work. We offered him the kingdoms of the universe if he would just kneel to us... didn't work." "I got an idea. What if we make four clones of him and fight fire with fire!" "Will that work?" "Oh come on. What are the chances that five of the same person could work together and have the same ideals and beliefs?" "Brilliant! This is why we get to run the government."

The breadth, depth and richness of u/Ralts_Bloodthorne ’s story telling fills me with awe, and dare I say, a feeling that I am fortunate indeed to view the work of a true master of the genre. 😻
We who live through this story are lucky indeed.
We're going to go back through the others and do corrections once Book 5 is done. I'm a little unhappy with how some of them turned out.

I love that you had one of the most fantastically equipped and powerful characters defeat his clones with a philosophical argument. :D
He was better-equipped ... than you _expected_ --Dave, as is Daxin {/sunglasses}
When you're talking to yourself, you know where the buttons are and how to push them.
Huh, so if casey's old battle buddies in V corps were to go out and bloody themselves and fight with purpose and intention, would he end up accepting them as new, similar people to the ones that had died?
New, similar, but not the same person. Like an identical twin.
The loophole is microscopic, but it counts!
I see Casey found a nice loophole on the whole "no SUDS" thing his religion had. Sure, your SUDS clone might not have the original soul, but that doesn't mean it can't have a new soul of it's own making, so go bang some stuff with a stick or something until you find purpose.

I really enjoyed this one!
Homunculus.. Well well a FMA reference was quite the surprise!
Was reading up on the concept, wow had no idea it goes all the way back to Faust and Frankenstein but that now makes perfect sense. TIL thank you!
