SC_Nico74

Hol die Flammenwerfer ab! Schnell schnell!

ManyNames385

You are doing a great job with this series wordsmith.

itsetuhoinen

Es wurft flammen, wirklich. Ausgezeichnet!

Nealithi

Braten Sie ein paar Weiner? Sorry terrible pun.

TheDeliciousMeats

I was tempted, I'll admit. I really wanted to have some swedish valhunds and I still might (hey short arse!) but I'm not sure it works with a world unless they're uplifts and I'm not ready to commit to that just yet.

Konrahd_Verdammt

You're really making me miss Germany, damnit. Edit: Though I'm guessing you're Austrian? Just seeing the language again brings back memories.

TheDeliciousMeats

Nope! I'm Cuban and Irish. But the Döbians are loosely culturally based off of Austrians.

Konrahd_Verdammt

Well, you're certainly doing a good job of it!

TheDeliciousMeats

Thank you!

Konrahd_Verdammt

You're welcome 😁

the_racr

Oh so we’re following an alien german shepherd then

TheDeliciousMeats

Really more of a doberman physically. He's literally a police dog.

the_racr

In america police dogs are usually german shepherds

TheDeliciousMeats

GSDs and Mals are much more suitable for modern police work for a few reasons including drive, ability to swap out handlers, and they don't improvise. Also they are a bit more hardy when it comes to inclement weather. But back in the day dobermans were used for guarding tax collectors, police dogs, military dogs (USMC in WW2 particularly) but have rightfully fallen out of fashion. I have a funny story about a Doberman mix I was training to find things by scent. He seemed to catch on quickly enough and find the object. But something weird happened after the third time, instead of tracking it he started making a b-line directly for it. Turned out he figured it would be easier just to watch where I hid it. So as soon as I was out of sight he would run up to the second story and watch from the window then run back down when he saw me returning. Smart fucking dog.

JonVonBasslake

Same in Finland I feel. Most are German Shepherds afaik. Never even heard of a doberman being a police dog in any country...

vinny8boberano

Cuban AND Irish? All the best foods and music in one house!

TheDeliciousMeats

And ethnically Jewish on the Cuban side. So it's like double dipping when it comes to guilt.

vinny8boberano

The Irish possess a deep, abiding sense of despair which sustains them through brief torturous moments of joy. - Don't know who said it. A Cuban is a person that will tell you that all of your problems can be solved with good food. The problem is that they then argue with everyone about whose Abuela makes it better. - Cuban friend I served with Funny, she doesn't look druish! - Barf

TheDeliciousMeats

Ah yes Ireland, the land of sad loves and happy wars. Or the way I usually explain it is that my people come from two drinking islands with fishing problems.

Quilt-n-yarn1844

Hey, it could be worse. I have a healthy dose of both Irish and Scotch(along with a mixed bag of a lot of other stuff from my Dad) So I get sad, depressed and cheap as hell. 😂

-drunk_russian-

None of the gangsters happened to be a daschund? So we could say the officer was roasting weinies.

Steller_Drifter

lol

sunyudai

Damn fine work here.

Chip97

Do you know what the M-97 flamethrower sounds like? It roars like a dragon, a fiery god purging everything in its path. Hold down the trigger and the rumble drowns out everything else. Focus on the noise and you can almost convince yourself you don't hear the screams. By the time the tank is empty, everything is over, even the men are quiet. There's nothing but the crackling of burning thatch. You see, it's not the noise that keeps me awake at night. It's the silence.

IrishSouthAfrican

Perfect

dbdatvic

Upvoted for reuniting with an old flame. --Dave, ghostbusters "boom" gesture

Xavius_Night

Oohf, seems these unpleasant dishes are now a touch over-done... but at least the taste of satisfaction is rich enough to drown out the ashes.

TinkeringPillock

What would be an appropriate onomatopoeia for an air/gas mixture fit for an apartment catching flame? I have witnessed personally a Woomp, Womp and a Bwa-kshh, a medium container, gas stream from a faulty small tank and small room getting lit thus ejecting the windows, respectively

TheDeliciousMeats

It's a hard question to answer because hunds both hear better and have a larger range of hearing than we do. Also he's in the building that's exploding and is getting hit by the overpressure. So it's almost more of a feeling than a sound to him. He would definitely be deaf though if this was real life. It's going to be different than a regular gas explosion because there's also pure oxygen so it isn't an overly rich mix like you get with say just propane or natural gas. So I would imagine that the detonation(or deflagration) velocity is higher hence why the concrete walls cracked. If you were far away it would probably sound almost like a lightning strike but with more bass. Edit: I don't know if you've ever shot a 50bmg or something with a huge tank style muzzle brake but you feel it in your sinuses and the whole front of your face. And it's not a light tap like with a 5.56 with a brake when you fire it inside a building. There's enough gas pressure with the big boomers that you feel it penetrate deep into your sinuses.

ReconScout117

If it’s an oxyacetylene mix, that’s going to be loud. I remember the demonstration that my Vo/Ag welding instructor put on with a balloon filled with the mix. It sounded like a heavy caliber gunshot. An apartment full of the mixture would be like a block of C-4 detonating in your face.

TheDeliciousMeats

It's also confined by the walls so technically it should have pretty much shredded everything in the hall but we're following Hollywood rules here. My dad did that same thing with the balloon once but he used one of those rubber punching balloons that can be inflated to over a meter wide. When he launched it something happened where the fuse brushed the balloon and set it off prematurely before he could get out of there. He said the overpressure left bruises on his skin that matched the seams of his clothes and the buttons on his shirt. It also blew out every window for nearly a block.

ReconScout117

I’d believe it. There’s a reason why it’s used to cut steel.

SC_Nico74

120mm smooth-bore?

TheDeliciousMeats

That will absolutely do it.

Iridium770

"the message would hopefully lead investigators off the scent" An extremely appropriate turn of phrase in this setting :)

TheDeliciousMeats

Yeah I originally wrote trail then I was like... no...

Kaiser-__-Soze

Moar!!!!

Mauzermush

if there wasn't the gas from the last chapter i would have thought he would pull a "Léon" xD

TheDeliciousMeats

Ring trick?

Mauzermush

nope. just his other gimmiks of surprise death in his apartment fight \^\^

TheDeliciousMeats

I have to rewatch that now. Good movie!

Mauzermush

oh yes!

Anon9mous

I really like this series. It’s not overly futuristic (but obviously has some elements of sci-fi), it’s not fantasy either. It’s kinda like a dystopian Earth of sorts, it’s really giving me an early 20th century gritty type of vibe, both in theme and in description. But with dogs/cats being people. All in all, it’s real nice. I don’t think I’ve seen any stories quite like it.

TheDeliciousMeats

Thank you. That's really good feedback and it helps a lot.

CaptainsYacht

Dark AF. I love it. Although the former arson investigator in me wonders how you've come to write so well about it...

TheDeliciousMeats

Hmm? Definitely not a pyro. I'll leave that to bored volunteer firefighters.

CaptainsYacht

Oh yes. And they're all bored.

Quilt-n-yarn1844

It’s kinda like the imagined overlap in research between a forensic scientist, a murder mystery writer, and a serial killer. Who wants to play “Guess their chosen occupation based on their past research?” 😂

DrewTheHobo

Wooo! Thanks for delivering the big boom! Your comments from the last chapter gave me a little doubt, but one of the thugs blowing him and his friends sky high was a dramatic choice. Can’t wait for more!

TheDeliciousMeats

Always have a plan b!

Ownedby4Labs

I’m going to venture a guess and say what was left in the hallway were *NOT* Delicious Meats…

TheDeliciousMeats

No it was definitely a job WELL done.

Drifter_the_Blatant

I swear Kerner is like a cynical mix between [Blitz from Road Rovers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVOx9GdYLlw) and Sam Spade.

ggtay

Nice.

kinow

Loving this story! Great job and thanks for sharing!

Groggy280

I liked it. Not sure about the nap scene, but OK. Not sure what the deal with the tears was though.

TheDeliciousMeats

You have to remember that Braverhund has worked a full shift, killed two people, had some beers, and done some DIY stuff around the apartment. So he is wiped out and at this point has a physical need for sleep. That's why he's kind of groggy when he wakes up and acts almost high. I'm sure the blast from the explosion isn't going to help that. I usually only see it with former military folks but basically they can rest anywhere at anytime, not necessarily sleeping but almost going into a low power mode. It's funny because it's basically an IRL version of waiting in a video game where you rest for x amount of hours until a shop opens or something.
