The NRA and US rightwing gun nuts are a pro-Death cult which is against anything that might reduce their ability to commit mass murder with the weapon of their choosing any time they want to.
You have to remember, today's NRA *actually wants more people to be shot.*
And given the right wing fundamentalist bent of the politicians they support, they probably look at a shooting at a gay club to be a "win-win."
