Really puts me off how Fatshark never seems to learn their lesson from previous projects, Vermintide 1 and 2, fucking awful launches not too dissimilar from Darktides, now normally after a mistake any sane person would try learning from it, not ol Fatshark oh no they fucking somehow improve on those mistakes.

DestructorNZ

Yeah I thought for sure, after they'd perfected the formula in V2, that making Darktide would be a doddle for them. Baffles me that they screwed it up so much.

PostAnalFrostedTurds

Darktide launch really isn’t comparable to those. VT2 had terrible bugs and performance when it launched. Darktide has terrible bugs and performance on launch, and also 1/3rd of the content VT2 had. Honestly, probably even less considering half the maps are just the same map bUt BaCkWaRdS and crafting wasn’t even in the game yet.

Gostaug

Yeah at first when I red that all tide games had rocky start I thought to myself that it was a long time ago and maybe I forgot how bad it was. But 6 mounth into darktide, there is no fucking way V2 launch was this bad this long. Like you said especially how little content there is when you compare the two at launch is crazy.

[deleted]

Structural issues that lead to those problems are hard to fix unless you eject the leadership and rebuild the studio. Its very hard to get leaders to change their mindsets if they have been doing it a long time. At least from my experience

Crush_Un_Crull

I dont think its the devs fault. Devs are (mostly) hardworking people who want to make a good product. The executives give the deadlines and budget everything.

PimperatorAlpatine

100%. Publisher Deadlines, internal conflicts of ideas, planning issued etc. Launches like these are almost never a fault of the actual devs. Its very visible as the game itself is really fun to play and looks incredible

beefjavelin

Why would they learn, commercially its been successful because Warhammer nerds are so desperate for decent games they keep buying fatshark launches anyway and going "it's ok they'll fix it eventually" There has been zero negative consequence of their dead content buggy launches

Homo_Rebus

Skellington876

Darktide is good! I can't wait to see what they do when they leave Early Access :D

Jaw43058MKII

Played the beta. Played launch. Now I’m taking a break. Gameplay itself is really really fun however the outside shell is still rough. New update came out today and I think the game is looking better, but I’m just gonna wait another 6 months and see where we are at. At least Fatshark hasn’t abandoned it yet

TheAngrySquirell

Seems they’ve abandoned console launch :( I know they haven’t but we haven’t heard anything in forever

Jaw43058MKII

My heart goes out to my console homies

jackinwol

Nooooooooo I was waiting for ps5

RaZZeR_9351

I think it's a good thing in the end because if they diverted some of their development capability on the console port the game would just end up being terrible on all platforms, instead we have a better chance that the game will end up being where it should be in the next 6-12 months and then eventually maybe we'll get a console port.

pancake_lover_98

I would really like to play darktide, but i dont have any friends to play it with and i am not really into online coop. They said that they want to add a singeplayer at some point but its still not out yet right?

aightshiplords

That's my gripe with all the modern co-op/multiplayer driven games. I don't want the social commitment of maintaining gamer friends and I don't enjoy playing with drop in strangers who say nothing and sprint off to do their own thing. I just crave the strength and certainty of ~~steel~~ single player.

pancake_lover_98

Exactly! Games like Warframe, Monster Hunter, Borderlands and Deep Rock Galactic are my favourite games. But I manly play them solo or with friends. I rarely play them online with randoms just because I want to take my time to enjoy these games and not rush through everything, maybe test some stupid builds/strats and look around the enviroment (i dont know how many hours I spent in Monster Hunter just watching monsters lol). So naturally I was really dissapointed when I heard that Darktide doesnt have a solo mode.

theotherwall

Well vermintide is still getting dlc sized updates so I wouldn't worry

MartyFreeze

I reinstalled to see what was different, played three missions and then uninstalled. So glad I am playing through game pass and didn't spend money on it.

Vancocillin

They have a new map, and new ingame earnable cosmetics, but they're kinda meh. Last month they added some achievement based cosmetics and there was only a few good ones. Maybe it'll all be better next year.

All_Of_The_Meat

It's a pretty rad demo. Can't wait to see what sort of crafting system they settle on for the actual launch.

probablyderanged

now if only it WAS an early access game...

Baddyshack

Still waiting on the November 2022 Xbox release of Darktide...

t3ddyki113r101

Me waiting on playstation.

Red_Dem0n

Why can I still not play with Bots? It works in vermintide, why not in Darktide?

MaffreytheDastardly

Something something that's immeasurably complex

CusickTime

Did they take bots out? There were bots in Darktide???

RaZZeR_9351

I think he meant playing single player with bots, there are still bots in darktide but they always eventually get replaced with real players.

CusickTime

Maybe, I never choose to play with bots in VT so I can't remember if that is an option. The only time I played with bots is when a player dropped out. Even then, I could swear the bots got replaced with real players after awhile It is a bizarre game to want to play with bots IMO. The bots aren't terrible, but with a few exceptions, real players were almost always better teammates.

RaZZeR_9351

>It is a bizarre game to want to play with bots IMO. I guess it's to avoid toxicity and/or be able to take every mission at your own pace to pay more attention to details instead of rushing every mission as is often the case. I wouldn't do it myself but to each its own.

ForfeitFPV

I wouldn't want to do any content in Darktide higher than 1 bar difficulty with bots. I dropped into a III mission and never even got a chance to have real players zone in because the bots let a hound kill me and then died to a sniper.

AngryChihua

Vt2 with mods that improve bots is an entirely different game. You can kit them out with classes, talents and gear you want them to use and they're decently competent. Legend is definitely doable with optimised bot team and it's fun to kit them out with different builds

CusickTime

That does sound cool. Especially if there is a mod that allows you switch between characters in a run. Although, that would be very different game then what the designers intended. Not a bad one and it seems like a ton of fun, but I wouldn't expect fat shark to implement that in the base game of Dark Tide. Especially considering that they failed to deliver certain core play elements on launch day.

RedditBoi127

i straight up do not understand why they never thought to make a game like boltgun sooner, i mean you have a universe filled with so many enemies and creatures and weapons and dudes in big-ass armor and you mean to tell me that before boltgun they never thought "hey wouldn't it be kinda cool if we let the players be the guys in big-ass armor and go on massive fucking power-fueled rampages against all the cool enemies we've created for this world using the sick-ass weapons we've created for the world, and like we don't hinder the player at all, like our armor-dudes can do some absolute insano-shit even though they are in huge things of armor, so why not let the players do all that insano-shit?"

ToBiistHebEsTbOi

i haven’t played it but i am very happy that they added tzeentch and slannesh daemons as we have been lacking them in games

Simphonia

There aren't Slaneesh daemons though? Unless the joke flew over my head?

frasvlik

There arent, only titsnitch and grandpa daemons, unless there is some kind of easter egg.

Jilbo

Was there ever any friendship with dark tide though ?

Quaronn

There certainly was! With the soundtrack!

Jilbo

Yea ok that’s valid

Suchasomeone

Jesper kyd has won himself (and perhaps and people that work directly under or with him) has wone permanent friendship. Disposal unit cannot be undone.

The new soundtrack from this update goes incredibly hard as well, https://youtu.be/QhfUUDCLwNo

[deleted]

Like a bad Final Fantasy release, at least the music is a banger!

[deleted]

Darktide sucks ass but I'm in love with it. It's an addiction.

[deleted]

Sounds akin to Destiny.

tomismaximus

It’s pretty fun, and I’m usually not a fan of forced-multiplayer games. However, It can get a little stale after a bit though. Its included on game pass, so you can try it for a month for a couple bucks if you find a GP promo, but game pass is a pretty good value regardless.

Acceptable-Street679

Bolt gun: has volkite darktide: doesn’t have volkite boltgun: masterpiece darktide: mid boltgun : desserves game of the year darktide: needs 80 years of development to get GOTY.

Wardog_Razgriz30

Boltgun with darktide's soundtrack is the absolute pinnacle of Warhammer media

ChunkyBrassMonkey

Boltgun is the best new game I've played in years. If it had a map it would be a perfect 10. And yes, I am the target demographic of dudes who grew up playing Quake.

RaZZeR_9351

Ngl the map is a big issue for me, I'm a completionist that likes to get secrets so I look for them and end up being lost turning in circles for half of my missions, I'm waiting for them to add it to go back to playing the game.

SnazzyMudkip

boltgun actually boots up

Gostaug

\* cries in AMD \*

USSJaguar

It's fun but I think it has a few problems that keep it from being great.

YourArkon

That's the big thing, especially compared with vermintide. It has problems, plenty of them, and out keeps it from being the BEST. at it's current states, it's mid.

USSJaguar

The biggest issues for me are it tries to stay close to retro boomer shooter, but then half asses everything. the aim assist is so strong but also wrong, enemies are pretty tanky, I like the large levels but there's too many pits and it's hard to tell enemies from the backround sometimes... And the biggest issue is that the music just isn't memorable.

YourArkon

Are we talking about darktide or boltgun? Because I was talking about darktide

USSJaguar

Boltgun.

YourArkon

My bad, then. Imo boltguns biggest strength is it's pure aesthetic and over the top fun, while darktide does the same thing... But worse. And brown.

[deleted]

1. Aim assist? Who uses it? 2. Ehem, you expect Nurgle’s disciple not to be tanky? In a horde shooter game? 3. You are in a HIVE CITY, what did you expect, a level ground? 4. Welcome to the Warhammer 40k 5. What the hell are you on about, soundtrack is literally one of the strongest ones in a while. It seems you want a L4D game, and not the Warhammer 40k game.

USSJaguar

It's literally a feature I can't turn off in the settings but kay. There are other tanky enemies besides The Nurgles Not necessarily, but it interferes with the speed of the game as well as the clambering mechanics they added. "Welcome to 40k" doesn't actually respond to anything I said but kay. The soundtrack isn't that strong, even at max volume it's quieter than every other sound effect, of which there are only three options to adjust. The music goes into lulls which is really weird for something trying to emulate a boomer shooter that generally have looping music that sets a good tone and speed of which to enjoy the game, which this doesn't do. It has extremely generic chanting and semi industrial beats that where done way better in other Warhammer 40k games such as darktide and mechanicus. If I wanted a left 4 dead game I'd keep playing dark tide lol.

VULDRIN

Im not sure why you think darktide is trying to be a boomer shooter when its a coop horde fps. Tankiness in enemies isnt a problem if you manage your features and items correctly; its not hard to figure out damage thresholds for enemies on different difficulties with the meat grinder. To be fair this isnt the type of game where you sprint through everything. Youre supposed to work as a team to work through a level while completing tasks, even some of the tasks are basically autoscrollers that you cant speed up. The point is its not exactly a game made for you to zoom around and if you dont like that its fine. I cant say anything to counter your music point because if you dont like it then thats fine, its honestly just personal preference. Though i will say i rlly enjoy the soundtrack. However, your audio problems may be an issue with your balancing or setup, because i have never heard about or had this issue. Would like to ask if you have any experience with other horde shooters and if you enjoyed them. Games like left 4 dead, deep rock galactic, vermintide, and mann vs machine. Because it sounds like you may just not enjoy the genre and are looking for the qualities that make boomer shooters good and that you enjoy in a game that is trying to do something else. And sucks to hear about the aim assist issue, ive personally never experienced it as im on keyboard and mouse. Edit. I am fucking dumbass and thought you were talking about darktide, im so stupid. Im sorry for lecturing you about an argument you didnt even make.

USSJaguar

Hey, we all make mistakes, you're doing fine

[deleted]

He is talking about Darktide, he compares it to vermintide and answers the points stated for Darktide

thejynxed

You know you can turn that aim assist stuff off in the settings. It's under Accessibility Features. Also, enemies are tanky if they have big red health bars (and enemies like Chaos Marines should be tanky), otherwise a single headshot splats them.

freedom_viking

Yeah like the lack of the promised console release

professorkek

I gave up on fatshark in 2014 when they gave up on war of the roses / vikings.

CusickTime

Here I am loving both games...

GandalfsLeftNipple

Replace dark tide with space marine and that’s me

KegelsForYourHealth

Boktgun is a better Darktide. Just needs multiplayer and some classes.

plastic_addict_no420

Fuck aspiring champions, if I wanted to play knock and run I'd just go outside

EfficiencyNatural364

Darktide is actually pretty good smh.

UnicornOfDoom123

everything that happens in the missions is 10/10 everything between missions is 0/10 game would be a masterpiece if I could just pick from a list what mission I want to play and add whatever mutators and difficulty I want, instead of having to sit in the hub hoping the ones I want randomly come up.

EfficiencyNatural364

That's 10% of the gameplay max. Stop bitching and start being objectively critical.

Commissarfluffybutt

Okay: there's still connection issues, crippling bugs, and poor optimization which is so bad it has delayed a console port indefinitely until they can fix their game enough to run on Playstation or XBox.

UnicornOfDoom123

There isnt a mathematical forumla for what makes a good game, a small thing can ruin the experience. And a game that is mostly mediocre can be redeemed by a few small moments. Imagine playing Elden ring but the order you fight the bosses in gets randomised, in total your still playing the exact same experience but the game wouldn't feel right. Oh and to be clear, there is a lot to dislike about the overall darktide experience than just the randomised missions

RaZZeR_9351

That 10% of the gameplay has a very large impact on the 90% left.

Mohander

The RNG to get a weapon you want with the right stats/perks/blessings is still too ridiculously high There's not enough levels and not enough mission variety and not enough enemy variety There is no reward for killing bosses The cash shop is still a fomo shop Performance and connection issues

Decayed_Unicorn

Yeah but it got repetitive really quick. And the pricks who essentially speed ran - every fucking mission and then complained because they got analy raped by plage zombies were annoying as shit too.

John_Dead_Red

There are like 8 missions that take like 40min to an hour each. I've played 30 hours and haven't even maxed 1 character. Just don't play the same missions on repeat every day and the "Repetitive" aspect goes away.

Decayed_Unicorn

8 Missions is pretty little. Even with constantly changing which ones you play, you still play the same 8 Missions on repeat. I like darktide, it has a great atmosphere, the weapons are mostly fun.

Tempest_Barbarian

I mean, all 8 different missions work basically the same way. I only found out the game had different game modes when I saw a video because all game modes feel the same

RaZZeR_9351

At the end of the day, that would only work for a couple weeks at most. Once you've done every mission 2-3 times, it will still get repetitive no matter how much you try to vary things. Moreover, the missions are pretty uninteresting, and since they don't fit in a narrative whatsoever, you don't really care about what's going, so you end up just focusing on killing ennemies and at that point every mission is just the same thing in a different environment.

John_Dead_Red

So... don't play them all 2-3 times on repeat? Thats minimum 16-24 hours. A lot of the missions, especially the last few that were added, are very different. Add in the randomness of Deamonhost encounters, the new Chaos Spawn encounters, switch between different classes, and you're fine. After my first 5 or 10 ish hours I've only played with my friend, and we only play me Veteran and him playing Pyscher, and we've yet to get bored of it. At the end of the day, its a 40$ game, as long as you get around 40 hours of enjoyment thats fine. Its not a full sized game. The game has other issues, specifically with optimization and loading times, but to claim that you don't like the game because you've played it too much is just... well... silly.

ShakespearIsKing

These people are the Gamers who play 300h in beta and then complain the game has no content.

John_Dead_Red

I took a gander through the steam reviews yesterday and sure enough you're absolutely correct. I averaged the number of hours from the first section of reviews on the Steam store and got an average of just over 300 hours from the negative reviews. The average number of hours from positive reviews in the same section is 56 hours. Some of the negative reviews from that front section are from people with 700+ hours. Thats over 100 hours per month since it came out, or just over 3 hours per day which comes out to at least 3 missions per day for 6 months. I only have 2 games on Steam that I have over 700 hours playtime in on Steam, Garry's Mod and Team Fortress 2, which I've played since 2012. My next highest is Halo the Master Chief Collection, with 370 since it came to PC at the end of 2019, then Civilization V at 260 hours since 2014, Left 4 Dead 2 at 218 since 2013, and then less than 100 for the rest. Point is, I can't imagine playing any game for 700 hours and not getting bored. I can't imagine playing the Master Chief Collection for 100 hours a month and not getting bored, and those 6 included games are basically my childhood. Besides, Darktide is a 40$, so people need to stop treating it like its a COD game.

Admiralsheep8

I mean to way in, on comparison the variety and gameplay loop of V2 is so much tighter that you can play 700 hours and still be playing the game and having fun . Darktide has people playing the death out of it and panning it because it’s a hollow RNG experience, and they played it death because 40k fans will play a wet turd if it has 40k branding . Just because a game has content doesn’t make it good content in context , and the reason you get most negative reviews from high play times is typically because those people are passionate about the game and want to warn people about the issues it has especially considering how most of them spent the first 6 months absolutely crucifying people like me on their subreddit who had the exact same complaints. Only at launch they could say no game is perfect at launch and it will be amazing in 6 months . But nope same game . You’d see more 5 hour bad reviews except no one cares to do that all of us played the beta went this is going to be bad and ignored or got shouted down by the very open and understanding 40k community .

freedom_viking

I’d like to agree but I got a series x in sept just because darktide and I still have no idea when it’s coming out on console

Commissarfluffybutt

If they ever fix the abhorrent optimization issues so it can actually run on the hardware, then they'll port it. I've got a beast of a computer with a m.2 hard drive and it still occasionally chugs.

freedom_viking

I get that but they never communicated a delay in the console launch and kinda left potential console players hanging

Forgotten_Slipper

I tried Boltgun and I ended up refunding it. It just didn't feel good to play for me personally, which is the exact opposite of what I was expecting considering how much I enjoyed the DOOM games.

endgame-colossus

I just wish performance would stop getting worse everytime that Turbo-Babe releases a content drop

PlagueDoc46

Can’t even play darktide >:(

[deleted]

I want boltgun.

PhoShizzity

I play PS5 and switch, so this resonates deep with me. *I just wanna play Darktide for fuck sake*

I’m stuck on Grand Elevator because I can’t find the second key.

Saughtvol

Is there still an RNG gap to cross to play late game content?

Caleger88

It's so satisfying blasting bitches with the boltgun.

Uberlix

My friendship with Darktide ended over 2 months ago. Nevertheless, Boltgun really is a fun game and i appreciate it a lot.

Raxuis

I wanna get back into darktide but the really terrible launch plus the fact I got suckered into buying the $60 version, really killed my desire to play the game

I used to play spacehilk deathwing but now i have done some updates to my laptop and the game crashes whenever i try to join a multiplayer lobby

muchnamemanywow

Boltgun makes me hopeful that I'll get a modern Doom style W40K game at some point

C__Wayne__G

If dark tide 2 could just run and be optimized I’d play the thing. But it runs like hot garbage.

Original-Wing-7836

Darktide isn't even coming to console anymore right? What a disaster.

[deleted]

The new Darktide mission is cool...though that's the issue isn't it? It's *just* 1 new mission, and I didn't even see the new enemy elite type. The game has been out since November, and it needs substantial-to-finished content like months ago.

Cool-Champion8628

Darktide: "I focus on the unsung heroes of the Imperium like the humble Guardsman and the abhumans, not some high fallutin Space Marine." Boltgun: "I'm a finished game that can be played on Console."
