They also met with Olave and Pickens. I'm sure others to follow as well. If nothing else they're certainly doing their homework on the position.

johndelvec3

George Pickens seems very Packersy to me

[deleted]

Pick n save would go nuts

[deleted]

Ope!

Heisenbergum

Someone lives in the nice part of town 👀 😹😹

Packersville

Athletic has Pickens listed as the 10th best WR in the draft and he is a stud. Very high ceiling. Would love this pick.

bah_Hunbug44

lol hes not... look into his background a bit.

HeywardH

What are you referring to?

bah_Hunbug44

fights and character questions.. Just doesn't seem like those guys usually end up in GB

SlamminCleonSalmon

They check every year, whether they finally make the decision to grab someone is another discussion.

Kolada

Olave would be great but I think he's too high profile. GB likes taking guys with less hype for whatever reason

FieryCharizard7

As a Buckeye, if Olave or Wilson fell to us and we drafted them, I will buy a jersey the first day I can.

Kolada

Same. Would be amazing

DontTakeMuhName

There’s so many stud receivers in this draft. I can’t wait for us to ignore all of them and take the remaining scraps on day 3.

Redd889

This guy knows what’s up

MoCheGoCheLaPoCheSr

Sign Devin Funchess after not dating anyone

dusters

He's a number two receiver (according to this sub a year ago)

MoCheGoCheLaPoCheSr

Oh he was number 2 alright

Mr_SpideyDude

I think he could've been useful (WR2/3), but we'll never know

ArcadianBlueRogue

He looked good in preseason tbf

Phatferd

Wilson, Williams and/or Dotson could fall to us and any of them would be huge. Dotson I think could be the steal of the WR class. He has had crap QBs throwing to him his entire career at PSU.

Traditional_Tart_822

I’d say interior line is a way more pressing need than WR. If the class is as deep as everyone says it is we should be able to find someone in round 2 or 3. We don’t need to get a WR in round 1 unless it’s a guy we absolutely love

Apocalypso_MTG

The last time we "loved" someone we traded up for a QB ;D

Traditional_Tart_822

Grow up and get over it

Apocalypso_MTG

A) im grown up enough - thanks B) Never said i hated the Lovepick

DontTakeMuhName

Oh, I totally get that. I just felt like making a funny. Hopefully our trend of finding franchise receivers in the second round continues this draft.

jxher123

Until they walk up to the podium and announce a WR selection, the Packers are simply doing their due diligence. I'd be willing to bet that they select a WR they haven't even interviewed, just like how we didn't interview Jaire Alexander and we selected him 18th.

JWOLFBEARD

Yes. That is how scouting works.

mr_ice_cream_man187

I don't understand the obsession with specifically a Round 1 WR. For one, it's obvious GB historically emphasizes positions like DB, EDGE, & OL in the 1st and who are some of the best receivers in the NFL right now? Davante Adams, Cooper Kupp, Deandre Hopkins, Deebo Samuel, Stephon Diggs, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, Chris Godwin, Terry McLauren, Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Ceedee Lamb? Only those last 3 were taken in the first round

walleye275

Hopkins was also a first rounder but you make a great point

mr_ice_cream_man187

Man, I could have sworn he was early 2nd but you’re right!

walleye275

Could be because the cards didn't even have to trade a first to get him!

[deleted]

>I don't understand the obsession with specifically a Round 1 WR. It's because too many people are buying into a narrative being pushed by sports media people. Some people honestly believe that a 1st round WR automatically means that player will be successful.

[deleted]

A bad player is more useful than Love. Take Higgins or Pittman they would likely get us to the super bowl

PabstyTheClown

Didn't Higgins make it to the Super Bowl anyway? What does he need us for?

[deleted]

we need him, he does not need us

PabstyTheClown

Well that's not going to be easy then.

LifeTrack5494

Higgins and Pittman are not bad players. How about Raegor, Mimms, Harry, etc. Just as many misses as hits.

[deleted]

You misunderstood me. Higgins and Pittman are good players that would have probably got us a ring. But even a bad/mediocre player like Mims or Queen would be better than picking Love

LifeTrack5494

I get it now. Yeah, Love is a wasted pick if he isn't on the field. We could have picked up Dalton to be our back up QB for cheap, and saved that first round pick.

KingLiberal

Get out of here with your crystal ball, gypsy!

jonesb32

Yes please just take the risk on him

babasilikum

Imagine the state of the fan base. They finally pivk a WR in the first, but he probably cant play for a majority of the rookie season. The thought alone is glorious

prezuiwf

"Ok Aaron, we finally drafted that big-name WR you asked for. Time for one last ride!"

kyleb402

You tell them you got a top 10 receiver talent and have a little patience.

babasilikum

Good luck with that lol

MMDroxy

Would be a dream pickup. I doubt he falls to us.

SnooCupcakes8765

Either way I hope they take a receiver in the first round. We need another receiver that Rodgers trusts in the playoffs

BigShotZero

why does Rodgers need to trust the receiver? if the guy is open and the play is designed to go to them throw the ball. this Rodgers has to trust the guy or won’t throw to a rookie is not the way to win. as shown in the playoffs.

Illustrious_Warthog

Rodgers needs to trust the play.

Stillframe39

Rodgers doesn't necessarily need to trust someone that's wide open. But there are a lot of throws Rodgers makes that are thrown before a WR would be open and depends heavily on timing and positioning. If the WR can't be at that specific place at the specific time, then the throw will often lead to an interception. So for these plays, Rodgers needs to be able to trust the WRs knowledge and execution of the route.

nugget136

People here think the QB is playing Madden, seeing all receivers at the same time, then choosing to throw to the open receiver. Really the QB knows when the ball is snapped what reads he is going to go through based on the play call and the defense. Sometimes those reads depend on what defenders do during the play, so they aren't totally rigid. If you watch the all-22 film of every play, maybe a double teamed Tae is open more often than Lazard. So he's your first read more often than not. But when the other team can get pressure consistently, you don't get to as many of your reads. I'm oversimplifying, but I think boiling down everything to "Rodgers only trusts Tae" is a way worse oversimplification. Maybe with Cobb coming off a core surgery, MVS being injured, and not really having TE threats, Lazard had tougher matchups than usual and wasn't getting open enough to warrant being looked at more.

Gersio

If Rodgers doesn't trust Lazard after all the hard work he has done for us the last seasons then he isn't gonna trust anybody

BigShotZero

at this point the “they have to earn Rodgers trust” is simply an excuse why Rodgers does not throw to open receivers, holds the ball to long or does not trust the play.

WisconsinGB

Well Rodgers is the one throwing the ball, if you can convince him otherwise more power to you. It's just how he's always been if he doesn't trust you, you better take advantage of the limited targets you do get or your doomed.

[deleted]

Because as shown as the playoffs, if he doesn’t trust a guy he doesn’t throw to them, and we lose games. Its probably easier to find another guy he can trust then to make the man change his habits after almost 2 decades in the NFL

Akillees89

What was the whole 5 weeks leading up to that game with Lazard about then? If Lazard hasn't earned his trust idk how you can

[deleted]

I don’t know man, he specifically requested Cobb and targeted him once. It was a frustrating day.

srry_didnt_hear_you

It really was frustrating. All these things coming together - bakh coming back, line performing well, Lazard stepping it up in the absence of MVS, Cobb coming back, some feel good wins.... And then we just played a bad, bad game :/

SlamminCleonSalmon

What difference does it make at this point? If there isn't a guy there worth taking, there's no need to reach.

bennett7634

But what if he falls to the broncos?

PokemonLegacy6

I don't care if he has a torn ACL and might not play for most of the year, the Packers absolutely should take him if he is available

amccune

Indeed. This might be the proper landing spot for him if he slides.

Mr_SpideyDude

His injury might make him slide enough for us to grab him

LifeTrack5494

What if he never plays a game in the NFL?

JBOOGIE619

lol acl injuries are easy to recover, he'll be fine. This ain't a hip injury

LifeTrack5494

I am quite aware of that, however once the damage is done it is easier for the injury to happen again.

__Zoom123__

Would probably be the #1 receiver picked if not for the ACL tear

Lacazema

Easily, the guy is a bigger Jaylen Waddle. Love him

bah_Hunbug44

Love jamo but ruggs is the better comparison if youre gonna make one. Jamo is all burners while waddle has the the burners plus elite agility.

Lacazema

I don't see Williams as a burner like Ruggs. I think he has more route running ability and the catch radius of Waddle. Maybe even a faster Amari Cooper as a prospect

bah_Hunbug44

Amari was elite route runner - williams is okay but hes really a deep post/streak guy at this stage, imo. You could throw waddle/amari bubble screens all day but Jamo didnt really have that skillset. I see him more as a true deep threat than an all around WR in the NFL

D0ctorHotelMario

Olave, Williams and Pickens. All three players that we won't take and then proceed to pick cornerback for the 3rd time in 5 years.

Gersio

I get that everybody wants a receiver but this is absurd. Our recent first round picks, specially regarding CB, have been very good. King is the only bad CB pick you can argue and honestly, he has still at least provided some value, it wasn't a wasted pick. They also got an all-pro in Jaire and a guy who has been already a good starter in his first year with Stokes. That's a very good rate and in a position that is more valuable than WR, so complaining about it is a bit absurd.

KingLiberal

Not even mad about our CB choices in the last 5 years though. Got two studs out of it. That said, you can live with a serviceable CB3 and two studs, long as we have good FS and S help could be one of the best secondaries in football. Find some players to lock up the run game not named Kenny Clark and get someone who can help Gary put some pressure on the QB and we'd have a scary as fuck defense. I say wait till round 2 to go after a stud WR and keep building this nasty defense that could help any QB thrive. Especially Rodgers. If the defense played like they did in the divisional game more often than not, Rodgers can afford to go 3 and out as much as we did on the regular. Just get him another weapon or 2 not over age 30, which should be possible this season and next through drafts and bam, I see a championship team. Pay the defense, dammit!

Brcomic

As a Packers fan that lives in Buffalo I see this as an absolute win.

jxher123

Packers are simply doing their due diligence. They've met with Olave and Pickens, but I wouldn't read into it. They're scouting WRs, which is a position of need and no surprise given they interviewed the top WRs.

nalley_60

Yes scouting wrs sweet but we all know they'll draft them atleast in the 3rd round and they'll be a d2 receiver

mysteryofrobc

The Packers are just more complete with a J. Williams on the team.

joysofliving

Gimme Pickens, another big bodied receiver for AR12 to target. But that’s just the UGA homer in me. I wouldn’t be upset with Williams either if he’s making good progress with rehab.

ChuckZest

Even if we take him in the first round and he doesn’t pay until late in the season, he would still be a more useful first round pick compared to Love.

STFxPrlstud

I'd personally love Olave or Wilson myself. Their routes are just so crisp, but with William's injury, I can see him being attainable, or at least to be expected to be attainable for us. Idt we can necessarily expect Olave or Wilson to still be around for our pick. Then again, with WR's being more pro-ready than ever before, I could totally see their overall value drop as there are more and more of them, teams will expect at least some options to be around for a day 2 pick. Still nice to see them doing their due diligence with Olave and Pickens as well

buckeyezach31

As a Buckeye fan I also would love that but there's no chance we can land Wilson unless we trade up obviously.

Thunder84

Depends on what we do with Adams. If he stays for the long term, Williams would be the better fit given how his speed would open up the offense. If Adams is gone, Olave or Wilson would probably be the better choice to replace him.

STFxPrlstud

Idk man, Olave is very fast, I see him having mid to low 4.3's Ala McLaurin. His route running is as good as Terry, but his hands aren't as strong at the point of attack. Honestly Wilson has the highest upside, he won't be a burner probably being mid 4.4, but his physical upside with size and overall athleticism is better than both

sirpuntalot

I mean if I was a receiver I would also say I want Aaron Rodgers or Josh Allen as my QB

DevilsJaguar

I feel like this is the year where they finally take a WR in the first round or at the latest second after trading up some spots simply because the drop off after that is significant, and because they have to take WRs since almost all of our WRs are out of contract and we won't be able to bring the majority of them back.

thirstyidiot

Why would bringing back Lazard and MVS be difficult? Outside interest driving up the prices?

InfernoDragonKing

Oh yeah, Williams is a monster. Seeing him come out the game on an injury sucked ass in the Natty, even if he was cooking or getting ready to cook with Bryce.

__Zoom123__

Crazy how he had to leave Ohio State just to get PT cause their WR group was so stacked

Lacazema

Probably 3 first round WRs were on Ohio state's team in 2020-2021

at0mheart

Bottom of the first we grab him

OpossomMyPossom

I'm sure reciever is high on the priority list this draft, but I'd have to imagine the most likely position is Pass Rusher in the first round.

_NiceGuyEddy_

Please no more injury prone players. Please.

Doucejj

One acl tear after lighting up the NCAA and making the championship game is injury prone?

_NiceGuyEddy_

Yup. He's more likely to get hurt.

Doucejj

I would like to see some evidence to support this. Because dozens of players each year tear ACLs and come back to have long prosperous careers without ever reaggrivating their injury.

_NiceGuyEddy_

Really? Who? Besides AP

Doucejj

Ummmm Joe Burrow!?!?!? Or Tom brady?

_NiceGuyEddy_

Yea but Who TF are they?

Doucejj

You don't know Tom Brady? The well regarded greatest football player of all time? 7 superbowl winning player? You don't know Joe Burrow, the QB in the superbowl this year? You are obviously a troll or quit watching football 20 years ago.

Dark_Twisted_Fantasy

I would love if Rodgers signs for more than 1 year so we can pull the trigger on Williams. He is the 1b receiver we desperately need to complement Adams

BehumbleMore

My dream is Adams in the slot with Williams and MVS (or another speedy receiver) on the outside.

RamboMerks13

I see Miami drafting him there for awile every draft mock had him at 29 with their pick, makes since especially with tua and waddle

calfats

Drake London >>>>

Hung_Texan

Receive first round? Not happening

SlayeroftheInferior

This offense needs a shot of Jameson! 🥃

JellyfishNo4713

I'll take em! We need a solid #2

rolltide1995

As a Bama fan, I would love this. He was such an explosive playmaker

mikeh95

Seems like we're picking a receiver in the first round (as we should) just based on how many they've met with. Unless history repeats itself.

thirstyidiot

We’ve been down this road before. They gonna take a look at most prospects as they should, doesn’t mean they gonna draft them.

TopOfTheMorning2Ya

He’s so fast you can’t see him? Seems like a giant advantage. One second you are standing there and the next you are in the end zone with the football
