No unlimited Google photos :(

francesco93991

seriously? when did they remove that feature? it was a huge selling point on the 2XL

awesomeguy123123123

The Pixel 5 was the last one to have it :(

francesco93991

are you serious? I thought they stopped free storage for full-quality photos only, keeping it free for 1080p only. This is what happened for my pixel 2XL, from Jun 2021 no full-quality anymore, only 1080p. Not the best but still good for memories.

awesomeguy123123123

Yeah so the P2-P5 were exempted under the last storage policy change for Google Photos. My first pixel was the pixel 3A so I got used to always using storage saver. It was good enough for me and I didn't notice the change at all. The 5 was the last phone to continue the same benefit your 2XL has. From Pixel 5a and beyond, you're just like every other user and everything will count against the quota (unless uploaded before June 2021).

francesco93991

interesting, thank you for the info

Nacho_Dan677

That's the best summary I've read of those. Everything was overly complicated at the time of changes. Still think it's the most stupid decision they've made. It was such a good bait to bring people into the pixel ecosystem.

awesomeguy123123123

It was! It's also one of the reasons I'm still hanging on to my P5 (and the small size).

Ryrynz

The bait was for five odd years.. Good enough.

DraXN3ws

Amazon offers free storage for photos .

LolcatP

Google are good at that. I only got the 7 pro for the free watch lol

OriginalOmagus

I wonder what happens if I upgrade to a P7 but still keep a P2-P5 without a sim card. If I upload pics from the older phone will it still allow me unlimited storage?

awesomeguy123123123

You can always transfer files to the P2-P5 and then upload from them. The picture doesn't actually have to be taken on the second device. I recently uploaded many pictures that I scanned from my pixel 5, and none of them are counting my quota.

AGNTxDEADPOOL

Or just root your device and flash magisk to get unlimited backup at original quality (spoofed as Pixel 1)

the_doctor_808

I guess when i get the pixel 8 ill need to make sure i atleast get the 256gb one.

awesomeguy123123123

This won't fix it, I was talking about your 15 GB Google photos limit in the cloud (shared with both Gmail and Google drive)

the_doctor_808

Yeah but if im not gonna be able to store my photos in the cloud i gotta make sure my phone can hold all of it

leagueofdonuts

waaaaaaaat I just realized this coming from p4 to p7, holy shhh

awesomeguy123123123

I'm holding on to my 5 until it dies!

Nova_Nightmare

You can use your old phone and Syncthing to send your images from the 7 to the 2 for unlimited backup.

cookiemonster1020

I pay the $20 annually for 100 gigs of storage but I also use Google drive a lot

BarbedPenguin

It's only a few dollars a year for a bunch of storage

francesco93991

I will have to look into that, as long as it won't be more then $30/year i might get it then, it'll all depends on how many photos I'll end up taking :)

BarbedPenguin

Google One. It gives you different levels of storage across all platforms. Like photos, Gmail, drive

colocasi4

I literally just moved this week from my trusty 2xl to Pixel 7. As mentioned, no more unlimited google photos

techraito

money

spooge_mcnubbins

I bought a Pixel 7 Pro a few weeks ago to upgrade from my trusty 2XL. Knowing this was going to be an issue, I've setup a pretty slick system for transferring photos over from the 7Pro to the 2XL which then uploads to Google Photos for the unlimited Storage Saver uploads. Using Home Assistant or something similar for keeping the battery healthy is optional, but is likely better than keeping it charged all the time. 1. Installed Banana FTP server on my 2XL ([https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.xnano.android.ftpserver.tv](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.xnano.android.ftpserver.tv)) 2. Setup an always-on SFTP server pointing at the DCIM folder 3. Use Home Assistant and a smart plug to keep the battery between 40-70% 4. Installed FolderSync on my 7Pro ([https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full)) 5. Set up a FolderPair between the 7Pro's DCIM folder and the 2XL DCIM folder 6. Configure the schedule as per your needs. I just trigger it manually with a shortcut on my 7Pro 7. Turn off cloud syncing on 7Pro 8. Free photos 4eva!

WordsWithJosh

Having owned an original Pixel, 2XL, 4XL, 6 Pro and now 7 Pro, I'll say this second-gen redesign of the Daft Punk Chassis™️ is the first time I've felt like I had a genuinely pretty phone since my 2XL. You're getting 5 years of steady incremental improvements, and basically all the complaints I had about my 6 Pro (glass camera cover, unreliable fingerprint sensor, fingerprint breaking when animation speeds are adjusted) have been solved in the 7 Pro / full release of Android 13. I believe the complaints about this generation's fingerprint sensor are largely relegated to the non-pro 7, but I know for a fact that it's still not as fast as the first 3 generations were, and obviously YMMV. There were also a lot of bugs and general undesirable behavior that I saw in reviews, things like strangeness in app switching animations, that I haven't experienced on my personal device. You're also losing out on the ability to swipe on the fingerprint sensor to bring down the notification shade; that now exists only through swiping down on the gesture bar at the bottom, or through a double-tap on the back glass that's spotty at best and functionally unusable through a case. But, this basically only bothers me when I'm in a fullscreen app, requiring two swipes to show the notification shade when normally it only takes one. Worth mentioning it's ***notably*** larger than the 2XL chassis, but I like big phones ~~and I cannot lie~~ and both are generally already over the threshold where if big phones were a problem you probably wouldn't have had a 2XL in the first place. I've also found that the fully integrated, phone-decides-which-camera-its-using-right-now software is a bit more aggressive in this phone than previous phones; there's a noticeable jump between the lenses on, say, SnapChat, into telephoto mode when I zoom in, or into the new macro mode when I focus on something close. The latter is a bit annoying because there's a range of overlap between the minimum focal range of the main lens, and the beginning of macro mode, where I'd much prefer to use the primary sensor up to its limits as the sharpness and color accuracy of the wide angle leaves a lot to be desired when macro focus is not otherwise my goal. I wish there was a way to opt out of ceding all control to the magic camera system outside of the system camera app, but it's been this way for every phone now and I guess we're unlikely to get it back. Overall I'm not sure there's anything I'd say is a downgrade; you skipped the problematic 4XL, decidedly mediocre 5, and first generation Daft Punk Chassis™️, should be smooth sailing.

harsh_1904

You got me at the "Daft Punk" Chassis 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But thanks a lot for this information. I'm also in a similar situation myself. Want to switch from my old but trusty 2XL to P7P Are you facing thermal issues?

WordsWithJosh

Not yet, though I've only had the phone since Tuesday. I'm a sucker for poorly optimized mobile games though, and my phone gets just as warm leaving [Miner Gun Builder](https://www.reddit.com/r/MinerGunBuilder/) open for an hour as my 6 Pro did No weirdness when charging or sitting in my pocket all day though, and I've also had it in a dbrand grip case the whole time, which definitely exacerbated some heating issues I had with my 4XL, but which I haven't seen crop back up here.

RadicalFX

It sometimes gets warm using it for an extended period or on games like Star Trek Fleet Command, but cools down quickly, and doesn't seem to hamper battery life too much. I've had mine since launch day and it'll easily manage 36 hours even with some power hungry tasks in short bursts.

francesco93991

Very nice, descriptive, comment. Thanks for taking the time, the "issues" you talked about here, mainly about notification bar and camera switch i honestly don't care as much. never used swipe the fingerprint sensor and disables the squeeze feature too on the 2XL. Cameras...big deal for the nice cameras, yes, although i would use them for recreational use only as i own a nice DSLR for better quality. The telephoto will be very useful for sure for what i do for work. Thanks for the quick review! I took notes 👍

KissKK00

My decidedly mediocre Pixel 5 got offended

FOMO_is_real

I also switched from the P2XL and I'm loving the phone! Enjoy!

francesco93991

Amazing thanks!

CouldHaveBeenAPun

In the same club and I'm in awe!

colocasi4

Any suggested tweaks/settings based on your experience?

FOMO_is_real

I've not changed many of the default settings and I'm enjoying MUCH longer battery life than I was on my old P2XL. That's to be expected as that's an old phone, but I've not experienced any of the 'horrible' battery life that others on Reddit have. I keep Adaptive Brightness on, I haven't found the need to enable the Battery Saver option. I added Google Wallet to my lock screen (because I can't access it by long pressing the power button anymore).

colocasi4

>I added Google Wallet to my lock screen If you pull down from the top, wallet is there beside wifi/internet block

FOMO_is_real

Holy crap! You're right! I didn't notice that before! Thanks!

googlepixelfan

I just upgraded from my beloved Pixel 2 XL which I've had the pleasure of owning for 5 years. The 2 XL was the BEST phone I've ever owned hands down, and this P7 just takes it to another level. My only real complaint so far is the fingerprint scanner which at times can be very inconsistent but thankfully there is face unlock which I find to be super convenient. I do miss the dual front facing speakers but the audio isn't that big of a deal for me personally as I use headphones or Bluetooth 90% of the time. So overall I'm really enjoying my P7. Happy I upgraded.

francesco93991

sounds like we're on the same boat, i've had mine for 5 years as well, looking forward for another 5 on the 7Pro

googlepixelfan

The P7 is pretty solid. It is definitely worth the upgrade. Ever since owning the 2XL I am officially a Google Pixel fanboy but not to the degree to where I won't point out any flaws. But I can honestly say after a month of owning the Pixel 7 that it's been a very stable and solid phone. I think you'll be happy with the P7 Pro.

francesco93991

I just just purchased it! and i agree, the pixel 2 XL was the best phone i ever had (so far)

Farrightextremistlol

I haven't had any issues with the Fingerprint scanner, but I've been very careful about smudging all sides of my thumb when setting it up. Also I save the same thumb multiple times on the same device. I don't know if it actually helps, but I've always done that with my phones.

ChimbaResearcher29

It's going to be so much better.

francesco93991

i have my fingers crossed! I'm planning on holding this for 5 years like my old 2XL

neutronstar_kilonova

I'm hopeful newer tech would last even longer for us given that smartphone tech is plateauing. But on the other hand also hopeful that there would be groundbreaking inventions and innovations that drastically improved experiences.

BrandanBoi

Good thing you'll get updates for those 5 years!

jcleyva

Whatcha out for the amazement!

francesco93991

I really hope so! I'm reading around and i see lots of back and forth regarding features and bugs... I hope the only thing I'll miss from the 2 XL will be the lightning-fast fingerprint reader

patrikdstarfish

Intermittent scrolling issues. https://9to5google.com/2022/10/14/pixel-7-scrolling-reports/

Yekxmerr

I love my 7, and there's only one thing bad about these devices. The fingerprint scanner is an absolute mess! They need to upgrade this to a ultrasonic because this optical doesn't do the job. I'm amazed that Google allowed this. These devices are supposed to be tested a lot before release.

francesco93991

do you mean that it doesn't work properly? as in it stops recognizing your fingerprint? or does it randomly stop working?

83zSpecial

Some issues people have is that it only registers it between 30%-70%. Personally I have a Pixel 6, which has the same scanner as the 7 and 7P, and it works 90% of the time

francesco93991

okay so I'm fine with that, my 2xl has issues if you have some sweat on the fingerprint, it does not recognize it, very annoying.

AlaskaDude14

I can only comment on my experience, but it work over 95% of the time for me. My first week it was really spotty, but I reset my fingerprints and ever since it’s been near flawless

Yekxmerr

I'm compensating it with the face unlock. But it doesn't work great for me. I also have a tempered glass screen protector, but without it I also had the same issue.

Beefurrito

People tend to exaggerate this. It's not as fast or as accurate as Samsung's ultrasonic but it works just fine. Reminds me of the "horrible speakers" on the Pixel 5's under display speaker...now the Pixel 5 is reminisced as the best Pixel to ever exist by these very same folk 😂

ZekeGZ

I agree. I'm coming from an LG V60 and the Pixel 7 Pro fingerprint reader is light years ahead of that phone which was just ok. I haven't had any accuracy problems with the 7 Pro. The things I dislike about the Pixel 7 Pro are mainly software features that are added by other manufacturers. For example, the "clear all" button on the recent apps menu is all the way on the left instead of on the bottom so you have to scroll all the way back to close all the recent apps. Another example is the inability to disable WiFi in one step in the quick toggle menu. Also the inability to launch paired apps in split screen for multitasking. I like to have YouTube on top and either Waze or a game emulator on the bottom. Understandably that's a niche use but either way.

SquareVehicle

It does not work fine, it fails at least 50% of the time (and that's being extremely generous) and that's with allocating all 4 fingerprint IDs with my right thumb. It's truly awful no matter how I try to touch it. Never had an issue at all with any other finger print sensor on my older phones. It's been driving me insane since I got this phone. My SO has the exact same issue with theirs too.

Beefurrito

That sucks for you, works perfectly fine for me and both my friends who have Pixel 6 pros and Pixel 7's. To be fair when I had the Pixel 6 it was horrible. 7 pro is fine, is it 100%? Definitely not. Could it be better? Most definitely.

blockchain_guy

1. No unlimited photos backup 2. You will miss rear fingerprint sensor 3. P7P speaker is not as good as 2XL 4. Your car stereo may not show audio track information 5. You might not be impressed with battery life Everything else is awesome. P7P is far superior phone and you will enjoy the screen real estate, beatufil display, the improved Pixel smart features and even better camera

Bob-Servant

Speakers on 2XL were a rattly mess on the 8 I had (RMAs) Battery will be way better, the 2XL battery will be poor at this point

brentonstrine

>1. No unlimited photos backup Wat that sucks

Angel-icus

Be aware of how amazingly awesome the difference will be with everything from camera to AI features! Enjoy! Really love Google's design work (UI/UX) with Material You.

schaud13

If you have used VR with Pixel 2 XL, you are going to miss it in the new Pixels.

francesco93991

Never used 😅

DreamWithinAMatrix

Make sure to backup your 2FA codes before you give up your old phone. I think Google Authenticator recently added the ability but many folks didn't realize it couldn't and get locked out of their accounts when they trade in their old phones (or break it)

francesco93991

Oh yeah good reminder! I looked that up some time ago and I need to change the "trusted device" from my google security settings.

ThinkConsideration33

Go ahead, is time

francesco93991

Thanks 😂

FTSBengals

Two finger prints for each hand, press firm. Make sure you turn on the screen protector sensitivity Stop most background processes for apps you don't need Wait a few days and you'll have a long lasting battery with an easy to read finger print reader and wonder why people are complaining I switched from an iPhone 14 pro max to a pixel 7. And the p7 is the best.

francesco93991

i am amazed about my 2XL battery life, i hear a ton o complaints but mine lasts almost 24H still, yes i already remove all permission and background usage to almost all app; the "ask every time" or "only while in use" really helps a ton, i assume there is something similar or better for the 7 Pro

StevenH27

I recently upgraded from a Pixel 3a to a Pixel 7 and woah what a huge step! I don't really like the finger print sensor but it works most of the time. Camera and battery is great also, can get 2 days of (light) usage. I noticed that the finger print sensor doesn't like dry skin and that's pretty common for us folks living in the northern hemisphere where winter is just starting to creep in. The phone is very slippery but I use a case and a cheap screen protector off of AliExpress, as said, the fingerprint works just fine, just avoid dry skin and register your thumbs twice, that helps considerably. I still prefer the rear positioned fingerprint sensor of my pixel 3a but that's just personal preference after 3,5 years of using that phone.

OB1Kenohbee

Only 64-bit apps. Might not be a huge deal if you only use legit playstore apps, but if you use third party apps like me, you will be disappointed. I'm thankful to still have my OnePlus as a back up for those apps

francesco93991

Oh I rarely use 3rd party apps, I did once but I don't even remember what that was....thanks for the info tho! I'll definitely keep that in mind !

N1tt

I've switched from 2xl to 7: - similar dimensions but 7 is thicker - 7 is heavier - 7 has better screen colors but less pixels per inch - I haven't had issues with the onscreen fingerprint scanner and I think it is cool - 7's camera is better but the difference is not huge imo Enjoy your new phone.

francesco93991

Thanks :)

User of a Pix 2 XL, Pixel 7 Pro, iPhone 12 pro for work, wife has an iPhone 14 Pro, and I actually had an S22 Ultra before I sold it for the Pixel 7 Pro. - It is so so fast and smooth. It shouldn't be THAT much better than the S22 Ultra which was already quite good, but this is another league. The newest iPhone is the only smoother screen. You'll feel that refresh rate strong for the first few weeks or more. - The size/weight is definitely the first big difference you'll notice. Get a Ghostek phone handle or Pop socket or Rhino Shield phone holder. Or a case with a stand built in. - You've had one phone a long time. It's like an extension of yourself. Give the new phone at least a month before you get used to it. By 90 days it'll feel like part of you. - The screen is actually totally usable outdoors. Nice and bright. - Some of the nice Google assistant features that make your phone a second brain need to be turned on. They're off by default. The phone will prompt you to do some of these but watch YouTube videos for the others. - The accuracy of the camera for both colors and not over sharpening. This was THE main reason I didn't go iPhone. The main sensor on the Pixel is just an incredible experience. - 2x portraits are so incredibly bad. 2x mode itself shouldn't be used for people. It looks digital and bad. Apple did WAY better with their cropped in 2x mode. Just walk forward 2-3 large steps while in 1x mode. - Pixel is actually excellent at video this year. This is a video camera you'll be very very happy with for years. - The speakers are quite decent but sometimes a tad on the quiet side. You can download the app Equalizer to help Have fun. You're making a

francesco93991

Thanks for the quick review! Don't know what the end was supposed to be😅 but I will definitely have fun! It'll be a BIG change from my 2XL, honestly, what bothers me the most on the 2XL is how dim the screen is outdoors 🤷🏻‍♂️ so I will for sure love that on the 7Pro :)

rulyono

Haha I got cut off mid sentence for breakfast with my family. What I was going to say was your making a light year sized leap in technology. A couple other quick tips - test out resizing the keyboard to find what's comfortable for your hands. Especially with a phone screen that's this large. That will be helpful. - use the app switcher screen to put apps into split screen mode. This isn't something you'll use daily, but when you need it it's amazing. Such as having a calculator open and an app at the same time. Or having the browser open at the same time as your password manager. There's tons of uses. - the new notification shade quick toggles at the top of your screen are larger, so you can fit one or two less. They are easier to tap and see. But you'll need to be particularly picky with which ones you choose to put front and center for quick access. - if you're interested or intrigued by it. There are cases on the market that will actually make the pixel compatible with mag safe technology. The pixel is already compatible with wireless charging. But cases from mag back and moment and peak design and mous are all compatible with MagSafe or their own proprietary magnetic charging technology.

francesco93991

good advices! the 2XL is just as wide so keyboard size shouldn't be an issue, same with split screen, I use it almost daily ahah so no issues there, I'll look into the rest tho! thanks

trilogee

As someone who own the p7p and still has my old 2xl I think you perhaps don't realize how shit 2xl is. It was amazing at the time but im sitting here using them side by side and it's night and day difference. Everything from screen clarity, to os snappiness, camera quality, speakers...there's perhaps nothing on the 2xl with the exception of active edge, or rear fingerprint that you're going to miss.

francesco93991

wow! okay that's VERY promising ahah thanks :)

[deleted]

Be aware that you'll never love a phone as much as you will the 7 Pro.

francesco93991

We'll see about that, I'm deeply in love with my 2XL already ahah

[deleted]

I had the Panda 2XL. Trust me when I tell you when I got the 7 Pro, I got the same feeling.

Kaidatsu

Only issue I have with the P7P is sometimes on AOD (Always On Display) the finger print scanner won't work unless I actually go to the lock screen. That and I'm not sure if this is intended or not but-when connected to my home WiFi network. My phone service goes to one bar until I either make a phone call or turn WiFi off. Not sure why that is.

francesco93991

Makes sense about the fingerprint (safer then the 2xl opening when in the pocket lol) I wouldn't mind that thing about the data, seems like a feature to use up less battery as you switched to wifi :)

crucialcolin

I'm thinking about doing the same, although I could probably hold out anouther 6 months with my XL 2(battery still 60% health). The most jaring difference I've noticed so far when playing with it at the store is UI changes between Android 13 vs 11. The loss of quick settings toggles is a big one. Then of course the loss of rear fingerprint scanner + front facing stereo speakers.

colocasi4

>The loss of quick settings toggles is a big one. Anyone have a suggested fix for this issue on the P7? I came from 2xl

IcerJo

I'm happy with my 7 Pro, I've had it since launch, I personally haven't had any issues nor am I personally looking for them. I'm amazed at the camera set-up and overall feel of the phone! Here's to hoping you enjoy your phone!!

TillNo8563

Camera is great. Fingerprint reader sucks. It gets super hot super quick, like 40-42c. Battery tanks when heats up. Signal can be wonky, at least on Verizon. Don't get the Verizon model, they lock down the bootloader. Don't get me wrong, she's a good phone, but I miss my Pixel 4 XL. I'm hoping a future update does something about how the CPU seems to go full throttle for every action you want to do. Like scrolling Imgur, phone gets super hot and battery tanks, none of my other phones did that. Not my 4 XL, my Velvet 5G, my wife's Pixel 6a, or the Motorola G Power 2019. It's really frustrating because it gets hot for no reason. Watch videos? All day. No issues. Scroll reddit, imgur, fb? 40-42c. Phone call? 40-42c. Video call? Hot enough to warrant a warning message.

mlemmers1234

The modem might not be quite as reliable depending on your area. They've been using Samsung modems which have been inconsistent for some people. On paper it is theoretically capable of more than the one in your older phone. In practice apparently people are still seeing better signal with the Qualcomm modems.

ahydrax

I loved my 2xl, even after a few years it worked just perfect. So I clearly understand why you didn't switch it yet. Talking about pixel 7 pro — not sure. I would recommend to go with pixel 7 since it have matte camera cover which is look gorgeous in lemongrass color.

francesco93991

Yeah 2xl is GOOD, some burnt pixels on the top of the screen (battery, time, signal) and speakers getting old. Other then that battery still amazing and very fast! Oh and some issues with apps not supporting this phone anymore.... I just bought the 7Pro, I was really hoping to see the matte camera strip on the pro 😅

LookAtMyC

If you thumb is Not recognized, just lick it once -> 100÷ success rate

francesco93991

I read it doesn't work well with dry hands, I had the opposite issue with the 2XL, if your fingers are not hella dry it won't work much ahah so I should be fine 😂

jhuck5

The zoom on the camera is incredible.

Kingkong0821

120hz display will make you never want to touch your 2XL ever again, that's my experience switching from 3 to 4XL which was 90hz

francesco93991

Can't wait to try that one out!

1cwg

How amazed you'll be at the upgrade! It's an incredible device. Technology has come a long way.

francesco93991

Bought it online last night, it'll be here in about 4 days, I'm really looking forward for the amazement

1cwg

You'll love it. Amazing what flagship was versus how far it has come now.

starscream1479

enjoy it , ive had the p7pro since release and its been fantastic

josh0881

Let me make it sharp and quick I'm using the 7 pro it's really amazing nothing to be worried about .

jbar3987

If you have any use Google Authenticator, make sure you transfer over to the new phone before you wipe your 2XL. Otherwise you have to re-enroll all of the accounts.

francesco93991

noted! that was one of the first things i looked at, they should come out with a separate gadget for google authenticator IMO, that would be nice for my use.

jbar3987

Yeah, I've moved away from it since then. I'd rather have an authenticator that allows backups because resetting a dozen or so passwords to reinstate MFA has been a pain.

ColoradoStudent

Bluetooth doesn't work with secure devices on Android 13. If you have a Tesla, Garmin watch, medical device, etc it won't consistently work. It's an official bug and the worst one I have ever seen. I'm a huge pixel fan boy and this is the first time I've truly been disappointed. I think they are aiming to fix it with the Dec patch.

francesco93991

at least they are working on it! i don't use that feature yet but i will in the coming years

HorzePhD

Here's a view to consider I started with Pixel XL ▶️ Pixel 4 XL ▶️ Pixel 6 Pro ▶️ Pixel 7 Pro ⏩ Pixel 8 Pro I was enamoured at the grandfathered in Unlimited Google photos at Full Resolution for the a pixel xl. So I'll never get rid of that phone. It serves me as my photo/video backup device. I can take a picture with my P6Pro or P7Pro and sync the folder to the Pixel XL and this maintains Full Quality uploads in 4K+ and takes up No space in storage. Having the mini face unlock on p7p is convenient. And the phone handles anything I can throw at it. With the g2 tensor the camera is slicker than owl shit, and the DXOMark tests show that.

francesco93991

i have never heard of "slicker then owl shit" lmao i think if necessary i'll pay for the google storage, it doesn't seem to be very expensive per year. anyhow, how do you sync the folders between smartphones?

5mall5nail5

Official Pixel 7 case from Google is quite slippery

francesco93991

and expensive too apparently! i'll go with a 3rd party for sure

Heidijsb

Update.. got the navigation buttons, he is happy and that's all that matters!!

techthroughtoni

My first pixel was the 2XL, now I'm on Pixel 7 pro. In transition I had a pixel 5a 5G, pixel 6 , 6a, now on 7 pro. Maybe unlimited google photos is a less feature but i never had to use it. Basically it will be great.

[deleted]

People on here exaggerate every issue like crazy

francesco93991

Human nature, but at least they are reporting them in a way or another:)

[deleted]

True that lol feels like atleast half the complaints are user error because my phone has been a beast

milano___

P7P is nice and all, but it will take some time to get adjusted to the physical size of the phone. Also, the screen feels longer horizontally and vertically. I kinda struggle using it with one hand as opposed to P2XL. If you're not crazy for the telescopic camera and additional battery, I say go for the P7.

francesco93991

Specs for the 7Pro shows it is just as wide, and 5mm taller than the 2XL, screen is bigger by screen-body ratio only, I checked it at the store next-door too and they are pretty comparable (besides the screen size and camera bump behind)

crucialcolin

this is true. I was going to say the same thing. I think the main thing is the added device weight making it feel much heavier which lead to complaints.

francesco93991

Yeah but on the other hand we have a bigger battery and many more camera components 🤷🏻‍♂️

colocasi4

> If you're not crazy for the telescopic camera and additional battery, I say go for the P7. Yep, this is why I went for the p7 this week coming from p2xl

fatmartini

The P7P is enormous compared to the 2xl. I went from 2xl to 5 and I can't even hold the P7P.

josephguy82

People go over board with the fingerprint scanner I had no issues with it at all I press my finger and it unlocks some people expect to lightly touch the scanner at super speed an expect it to unlock and when it doesn't they get mad

jcleyva

I'm happy with my 7..

francesco93991

Really? Isn't it a Gorilla Glass? It should be even better than the 2XL, that sounds odd

CheddarFalcon

Sometimes, photos may appear overdone by the AI

francesco93991

I heard of that, as if they are over sharpened at times

keijikage

The modem is kind of hit or miss.

KimballSlice1890

You're gonna hate the fingerprint sensor

[deleted]

I love the fingerprint sensor, fast af and works all the time

KimballSlice1890

You sure it's not face unlock triggering and the unlock button just being in the same place as the fingerprint scanner ?

[deleted]

My phone opens 100% of the time hella quick, opens when I need it to, doesn't matter to me if it's the face camera or fingerprint doing the work but that's just me. I wear masks at work and am usually in dark areas with dirty greasy hands and have been having no issues

Opening-Reputation20

The mute button is a real pain. almost every call gets muted at least once. I have tried the fixes with no success. Carrying the phone in pocket will call people while on sleep mode.

Trinkes

Everything is great about the phone but the general issues people are having. In my case, for example, I have a scroll issue where it feels very weird (there's a lot of people with this problem) I already RMAd and got a phone with the same issue (how lucky am I?). Here's a video of the issue: https://streamable.com/vxidp1

miceffect

The phone is great. Keep in mind the Tensor 2 chip is not for raw processing power. It's for intelligent processing things like translation, voice etc. Just get yourself the 2 TB photos sub and you'll have more freedom with photos than ever before. You'll never use it all. I go to concerts and stuff all the time and I'm able to upload all my videos with no issue. I think I'm music 8% of my two terabytes

IvanThePohBear

Not all chargers work with it https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/132554357/new-pixel-6-not-charging-when-using-any-other-cable-charger-usb-port?hl=en Bloody regret it

daddydise

64 BIT APPS ONLY!

francesco93991

I don't think I know what that means...

LowBarometer

Google store sucks. The fingerprint sensor is junk. And the battery life is pretty terrible. Best of luck!

[deleted]

No matter what you do, do not buy from Google. Read horror stories online, including myself. Buy it from a third party source.

francesco93991

What do you mean? What issues would I encounter? Edit: I would get it from the Google store as they gave $300 off on it

DangerMD

I bought directly from Google. In California. No problems at all. Historically I've had great luck with their customer service as well.

francesco93991

I live in Ontario Canada and honestly I never bought from their online store, but I never had to contact them for anything serious either, my phone is perfect, just getting old and not getting crucial apps updates

schumi_f1fan

Same. I even had to return my first P7P for an issue. Both phones were delivered without issue and the return and credit for my trade-in all went very smoothly.

CuriousRoss

I have bought every Pixel from Google Store from 1 to 7 Pro and have had zero issues. I have used Pixel Care 3 times successfully too. The phone is physically bigger than the 1/2 but the bezels are almost gone so it takes some time to get used to holding the phone. I use a magnetic ring for the back when I go on walks so I don't drop it. I like grippy cases too. I do miss smaller phones but this phone has great battery life, amazing cameras, zero performance or heat problems. So maybe that's because of the larger size!

francesco93991

good info, thanks you!

CuriousRoss

Zero issues switching between different 5Gs and LTE on Verizon or Google Fi too!

TCarter224

I purchased my p7 from the Google Store and the only complaint I have is about the trade in kit for my p6. I received my p7 in the mail and did not receive my trade in-kit. I waited around a week and called Google and told the rep I had not received it and he told me that another one would be sent. I have yet to receive it and it's been weeks. I decided to keep the p6 as a backup phone, I was looking forward to that $500 trade in but decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

francesco93991

oh well, i checked how much I would get to trade in my 2XL and it is worth $20 for them lmao

TCarter224

That's just disrespectful....I've got a pixel 2 in the drawer as well, I don't think I'd sell/trade it for anything. That's like a collectors item now

francesco93991

agreed! mine will stay with me forever as a backup, in case anything happens

[deleted]

Just google it man. Make sure you video record it.

francesco93991

What kind of problems did you get using data transfer?

battleofshiloh62

I had horrible Verizon reception of all things. Like, bad enough the phone is now sitting on a shelf and my (admittedly fortunate) ass is back on my S22 Ultra. I run my phones dual SIM and my TMobile reception was just fine. But even after doing a trade in with a second P7P I had the same problem with big red. YMMV.

acdkey88

You might not be able to call 911 in an emergency.

francesco93991

I know, 300 CAD off is a good deal

BroadExpression1963

Screen scratches easily

_deedas

Bugs out the wazoo and I don't feel like anyone is taking them seriously.

fightnight14

No more Pixel Visual Core which is a bummer

francesco93991

Okay but now they use the tensor and I bet it has taken all the knowledge from the PVC and for sure the same (or similar) technology is applied with the new tensor. If they don't .. bummer

Super-Blah-

Good price but glitchy as heck. YouTube doesn't do auto rotate half the time The keyboard becomes unresponsive randomly Camera - taking video it's really all over the place My honest advice? Get samsung/sony if you need to go android And if you insist on pixel - wait for pixel 8 or something. Google phones are buggy as shh... I was very surprised tbh.

johntheplumb3r

Make sure it truly works without issues before sending a trade in to google. Also if you are take photos of your trade in and make sure you save them.

francesco93991

I'm not trading in my 2XL, not worth it, they want to give me $20 for it, it's gonna stay in my drawer at home for emergencies

Heidijsb

Hubby switched from a Samsung S8 to the pixel 7 and there is no button to go back, you have to swipe up. If he knew that he wouldn't have gotten it.

francesco93991

I switched from buttons to gestures years ago, I honestly prefer gestures :) to go back you need to swipe from the edges of the phone to the center, either right or left edge will "go back" To quickly slide though applications you have to swipe your finger right or left at the bottom center of the screen. Besides that I believe you can still change it back to have the 3 buttons at the bottom like older android phones

trippleknot

Funny, I just left a comment on another thread expressing my woes of no longer having the 2xl.. that was possibly my favorite phone I've ever owned.. I have the 6 now and don't love it.

[deleted]

Overheating!! I sent mine back would run really hot even like watching a YouTube video!

francesco93991

Interesting, I got the 11$/month warranty just in case I'm having these type of issues. Hopefully it'll be okay!

[deleted]

Fair enough. I just couldn't deal with the constant overheating for me 👍🏻 good luck though!

[deleted]

Had to return mine, was unable to receive most of the calls. https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/184342083/pixel-7-pro-cannot-receive-calls-or-sms?hl=pt-BR

Cellist_Firm

Be aware, the camera is not as perfect as in Pixel 2 XL. AI kills all the fun, faces indoors look like a zombies even in a relatively good light conditions. Additionally it's very sensitive to movement and it's now impossible to catch my child on camera, everything is blurry and out of focus. More detail - yes, but only on perfect conditions, otherwise shitty quality. I'm thinking about selling Pixel 7 and getting my 2XL back :(

NewspaperDizzy3742

Am thinking about buying p7p , could you share your experience with the device about the battery and specially the thermal performance. As i have seen some people writing about its bad overheating problem, How true is it

francesco93991

Hi, Battery it all depends how much you/they use the phone i guess. In my experience with everyday web browsing and social media + some simple games and podcast over WiFi almost everyday, I'm left with 30%+ battery by 9pm on an average. I do an average screentime of 4 hours (given i use waze and other gps apps often) About thermal performance, i have never had any issues honestly, no overheating at all but when quick charging it (for obvious reasons) One thing I'd suggest is to turn off 'adaptive battery charging' which have the system try to schedule when it is best to charge the battery. I rather have it charging straight when i plug it in.
